New Series Examines How Pop Music Evolves SDPB Radio: Sundays, beginning Sept. 9, 9pm (8 MT)

Song Travels with Michael Feinstein, a new 13-week series, examines how popular standards and show tunes have evolved through the years. Feinstein, creator of the Great American Songbook and five-time Grammy nominee, hosts the series that reflects American popular song and reimagines it for a new century. Each week a new guest joins Feinstein for intimate explorations of the journeys of songs and the artists who perform them. The line-

up spans the musical spectrum, from Liza Minnelli and Bette Midler, to violinist Joshua Bell and Pink Martini pianist Thomas Lauderdale, and U.K. current pop sensation Rumer. Each guest shares their passion for the songs through solo Michael Feinstein performances and duets with Feinstein. September 2012 19

Funders

Program Funders recognize the importance of lifelong learning by providing support for SDPB programs in South Dakota. Program funders give $5,000 or more in support of SDPB programs. Thank you.

Deadwood History Backs SD Appraisal Event Deadwood History, comprising Adams Museum & House, Days of ’76 Museum and the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center, is one of the sponsors who helped make the firstever Antiques Roadshow appraisal event in South Dakota possible. Thousands braved the 100+ heat to bring their treasures to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City in July to take part in Antiques Roadshow. The PBS television program, one of the most popular on television nationwide, will feature Rapid City and the area in three programs in 2013. Deadwood History supported SDPB’s participation in a reception event on July 13 and the appraisal event on July 14. Thank you. All four entities covered by Deadwood History are in the historic Northern Hills

Noel Barrett, right, a toys appraiser often seen on Antiques Roadshow, greets South Dakota fans at a reception before the appraisal event in Rapid City.

The Friends of SDPB has received a memorial gift honoring Bob Heintzman of Aberdeen. It was presented by Agnes and Marvin Thum of Scotland. Thank you.
