are both print and electronic. White Media can afford to run them for free and give the appearance of community service. But let’s take a look at the Ad Council itself. It was established as a nonprofit in1942; changed its name during World War II and raised monies for the War effort. It reverted to the name Ad Council as a nonprofit after the War, and today receives more than 1.8 billion dollars from Media among its 385 donors. The White Press writes off its dona tions to the Ad Council, which, in the past and perhaps still does today, provide print ads to small community newspapers which historically ran them for free when they had no paid ads to run.

With 1.8 billion dollars in Media contribu tions, the Ad Council could have provided dollars by itself for a paid media campaign for the local and community newspapers like the Black Press. Let us not forget the multi-billion dollar advertising agencies who also contribute to the Ad Council with write offs while too often controlling the trickle down dollars reaching smaller media like the Black Press.

Lately COVID-19 has been in the news as a virus that can cause you to lose your sense of smell. Science has found that the virus indirect ly decreases action of your olfac tory receptors, which detect the molecules associated with odors.

Learning more about PAD is important for detecting problems and getting early treatment so you can avoid devastating complications such as amputation or even death. Learn more about PAD, including symp toms, risk factors, and treatment, from the experts at the American Heart Association:

The average adult can detect about 10,000 to 30,000 distinct odors. Your nasal membrane is lined with cellu lar receptors that match the shape of different scent molecules. These mol ecules bind to cell walls at the top of the nose, where they trigger the release of neurochemicals. These, in turn will generate nerve signals that stimulate the part of your brain that identify different scents.

Did you know if you plug up your nose, food wouldn’t taste the same because you can’t smell it? Almost 16 million Americans suffer from a severe-to-total loss of their sense of smell. By age 65 about half of us will have a reduced sense of smell.

There are many kinds of vegetarianism, but many folks are reducing the amount of meat in their diets, or cutting it out altogether. And these choices are being made by kids, too.

Let’s start with the sandwich, the mainstay of many lunch bags and boxes. Instead of traditional ham and turkey, explore the ever-grow ing number of vegan and vegetarian cold cut options out there.

“States vary in their relative allocations to higher education,” states the report. “Public institutions in some states remain primarily pub licly funded, but a growing propor tion have become primarily reliant on student tuition and fee revenue over the last two decades.”

If we want to end the student debt trap, now is the time for citizens to challenge states to use their tax revenue to do more for their own constituents.

So with the new school year, the question becomes: How can we pack lunches that are nourishing, proteinfilled, meat-free and kid-friendly? Luckily, there are lots of choices.

Lightlife makes sliced “turkey,” and also plant-based ham and bologna, so you can recreate some of the classic combos. Unreal Deli makes faux “corn’d beef.”

Let’s hear it for eggs, an amazing source of non-meat protein. Egg salad, hard boiled eggs, deviled eggs, frittatas. Plus there are a bunch of highly packable, egg-based meals and snacks on the market, such as Nellie’s Sous Vide Egg Bites and Organic Farms’ Egg Bites with Cheddar and Chives.

Predictably, long-time education and civil rights advocates spoke to the need for additional reforms, while others wondered about can cellation’s impact on an already troubled economy. Families strug gling with the rising cost of living and deepening student debt – have only a few months to make house hold budget adjustments before loan payments resume in January.

On August 30, following President Biden’s announcement, the Department of Education took action against another defunct for-prof it: Westwood College. This trade school lured unsuspecting students into costly debt from January 1, 2002 through November 17, 2015

It seems like a perfect time for the Department of Education to clean house of all the bad higher education actors -- especially costly forprofit institutions that promise a lot but deliver little, and accredi tors that fail to do their jobs.

Other sandwich and wrap ideas:

And remember good old pasta salads, too. Whole grain or plant-based pasta adds extra nutrition and fiber.

Now, 79,000 Westwood borrowers will benefit from $1.5 billion in debt cancellation, thanks to the Department.

You can pack a hearty soup into a thermos (there are SO many cute containers these days designed to keep foods hot or cold). Soups made with a vegetarian protein, like beans, are terrific.

Speaking of avocado, this fruit (we all remember it is a fruit, right?) can become lunch in many guises. Or, put a whole avocado into the lunch box and let your kid peel and smash it onto a piece of whole grain toast, topping it with anything from salsa to crumbled queso.

Think about lentil soups, white bean soups, black bean soups. Make a batch of vegetarian chili over the weekend, or red or black beans and rice. You can pack that up and, if you’re feeling energetic, pack little containers of sour cream, shredded cheese or avocado to top the chili just before eating.

President Joe Biden’s recent student debt cancellation announcement elicited a diverse range of reactions–some congratulatory, others critical, and still others that seem unsure what to make of the unprecedented multi-billion-dollar effort.

Armed with the knowledge that Dukakis opposed the death penalty, Shaw asked Dukakis if he would support an irrevocable death penalty for a man who hypothetically raped and murdered Dukakis’s wife.

The African American Registry noted that most remember Shaw’s question to Democratic U.S. presidential candidate Michael Dukakis at his second Presidential debate with George H. W. Bush during the 1988 election, which Shaw moderated.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, he attended the University of Illinois at Chicago from 1963 to 1968. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, including stints in Hawaii and at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, NC, where in 1962, he was a “Message Center” specialist as a Corporal, E-4.

conversing with Shaw about why he was the only anchor covering the 1981 assassi nation attempt on Ronald Regan to not report that James Brady was dead, Shaw said that he didn’t go on air with the information because he didn’t have confirmation with ‘anyone in the room,’” CNN analyst Jack Cafferty said during a Jan. 4, 2006, spot on the network’s “The Situation Room.”

“Dukakis responded that he would not; some critics felt he framed his response too legal istically and logically and did not address it sufficiently personally. Other critics thought the question inflammatory and unwarranted at a presidential debate,” researchers at the registry reported.

“CNN’s beloved anchor and colleague, Bernard Shaw, passed away yesterday at 82. Bernie was a CNN original and was our Washington Anchor when we launched on Jun. 1, 1980,” Chris Licht, CNN Chairman and CEO said in a statement Thursday.

As CNN’s first chief anchor when the net work launched in 1980, Shaw immediately showed why he was the man for the job.

Shaw, 82, died a day earlier, the statement said.
