SEA CREST SCHOOL Outdoors Leave it better than we found it
Inspiration is the precursor to innovation At Sea Crest, we seek inspiration to leverage the best ideas to give our children an education that prepares them to be global citizens of a rapidly changing world. We love learning, exploring and expanding our children’s horizons. We teach our students empathy, compassion and how to make ethical choices. We inspire them to innovate. Sea Crest School and its leadership enjoy a wellearned reputation for decisive and effective action. Our families take to heart the motto inscribed in our school’s entryway, I leave it better than I found it. Every generation of parents leaves an extraordinary gift to the students of the future. With our Outdoors, we can realize this dream for our children and make our campus whole and complete; the jewel of the Coast. At Sea Crest, we execute on our convictions.
Mindfulness
We respond to the needs of our students Since its founding in 1996, the families of Sea Crest have responded to the needs of our students by purchasing a four-acre property, erecting a main classroom building, adding a sports and performance facility, constructing an Innovation Lab and building a second floor, all with an eye toward flexibility and adaptability. Classrooms and furniture are upgraded and reconfigured as needed, responding to new information about learning styles and effective teaching approaches and sensitively maximizing each student’s potential.

Our outdoors will nurture our children The final element in the school’s master site plan is the outdoor space that frames and unifies our campus to provide all our students the irreplaceable benefits of daily time outdoors. Not content with good, Sea Crest educators and parents want a great enhancement to the abundant opportunities to enjoy the out-of-doors available on the Coast— an Outdoors that extends Sea Crest’s unique teaching style beyond the classroom, while still letting kids be kids. The Outdoors will nurture children’s social, physical and intellectual growth by providing a space designed for imagination, exploration, adventure and wonder.
Observing the natural world
Our outdoors will unify our campus After conferring widely with faculty, parents, students, independent school colleagues and experts, we considered incorporating more than 80 specific requests for elements as whimsical as a roller coaster and as emblematic as a book-lined tree house. Together with landscape architect Tom Conroy of Half Moon Bay’s Kikuchi + Kankel, we have reimagined our Outdoors to serve the needs of all our students. Our new Outdoors will unify the physical elements of our school into a beautiful, organic, whole campus, where the lessons of environmental stewardship can be taught through play, observation, and practice.

Our outdoors incorporates the lessons of nature The multi-purpose function and flexible design of the Outdoors will provide five main areas to take advantage of the outdoors to enhance education. The field is the enhancement to the school’s physical education and athletics program. A state of the art playing field for rigorous practice, a perimeter path for running or walking and a brand new play structure. The play equipment will be engineered to enhance mental creativity, physical development, strength and confidence. The Field extends to a new hill, where students can climb and play. The outdoor amphitheater and creative play area will enable faculty to take their lessons outdoors. These tranquil spaces are great for drama, classes, and an inspiration for creative endeavors. The updated playstructure will provide new and exciting opportunities for movement, collaboration and imaginative play. This space will allow students to stay active, explore new perspectives, build coordination and develop physical strength.

The mindfulness garden area is a place for reflection; where eureka moments happen. This nature area is designed to teach cutting-edge gardening techniques, efficient planting and growing. The Outdoors incorporates the lessons of nature in a bucolic atmosphere.
