Support our Seaford Charities

Sunday 5th September

Martello Rotary, Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford Lions, Seaford Rotary, Seaford Bonfire Society and the National Coastwatch Institution, are cooperating to plan and run Support our Seaford Charities a fun-filled fundraising event on the Martello Fields on Sunday 5th September. These five local service organisations have realised that most, if not all, of our Seaford charities and ‘not for profit organisations’ experienced difficulties in fund-raising for most of last year and into this year. This was because of the pandemic and its restrictions, charity shops closed, and fundraising volunteers required to socially distance or quarantine. This has resulted in our Seaford charity sector having less money than it needs and on-going challenges in raising money. The five service organisations have come together to support the ‘Mayor’s Charity Initiative’. Councillor Rodney Reed invited charities and ‘not for profit organisations’ based in Seaford or delivering their services and support in Seaford to join in this support project and nearly 40 of them have accepted. This Mayor’s support includes profile raising for them using his Mayor’s Facebook and the video interviews now being posted to Facebook and support for the groups in their fundraising. Our Mayor recognised it was not possible to choose just one or two charities for support during his first or in this his second year in office, because so many worthy local causes urgently need funds.

Support our Seaford Charities on Sunday 5th September is to help these groups raise the funds they need. It builds on the success of Seaford Rotary’s recent Over the Rainbow sponsored walk and uses the same approach – whatever the charities and the other participating ‘not for profit’ groups raise on the day they keep. The organisers want this to be a fun-filled day so there will be a large central arena with music and dance performances by local choirs, singing groups and young people throughout the afternoon. This will include contributions from the Seaford Silver Band and Sunshine Strummers. There will also be sports demonstrations including women’s football, rugby minis, the ‘toddle bubble mini marathon’ with other sports to be announced later. There will be a lot of charity stalls with activities for the whole family, as well as face painting and a family picnic area. Martello Rotary’s Tavern in the Tent will be on site along with local businesses providing a range of food on their stalls during the day. The full programme for the event will be published near to its date. The stalls and the refreshment areas will open at 10am. From 12 noon to 4pm music and dance performances on the main stage will alternate with sports demonstrations in front of that sound stage in the central arena. Music will continue into the evening beside the Tavern in the Tent’.
