The Youth Counselling Project

Thank you, thank you on behalf of all the youngsters who benefitted from some very welcome Christmas presents from local and corporate organisations. The Youth Counselling Project is so grateful!

In no particular order, the Seaford-based organisation received £4,000 from The Albert Hunt Trust and a Henry Smith award of £2,000 plus the Seahaven branch of The Royal Society of St George has pledged resource boxes to suit the different age-related needs of pupils attending the town’s four primary schools and Seaford Head School.

Grants awarded to TYCP from national charitable bodies pay a good proportion of our annual costs to help up to 85 children this year with mental health problems.

The Albert Hunt Trust aims to promote and enhance the physical and mental welfare of individuals or groups of individuals through grant making and the Henry Smith Charity aims to use its resources to help people and communities at a time of need and to bring about positive change.

At the time of of writing TYCP would also like to acknowledge the promises of help from singers and musicians who were organising or taking part in concerts in the run up to Christmas. For example, we were delighted that a concert at St Andrew’s Church, Bishopstone, with music from celebrated opera singer Dame Felicity Lott, violinist Maeve Jenkinson, pictured, and pianist Martin Neill had a retiring collection for TYCP. Also, Jane Reeves of Archway Choir did the same after the choir’s concert at St Leonards Church, and she also made room for us to rattle buckets when the choir sang at Trafalgar Square, London.

With the big increase in children needing therapy from specially trained counsellors since the outbreak of COVID, it is generosity like this that makes it possible to improve the lives of these youngsters, most of whom receive 10 individual therapy sessions at a cost of around £500 per student block. If you would like to help TYCP continue this work Wutan please visit www.tycp.org.uk where you will find Kung Fu & Tai Chi various ways to contribute. Photo: Maeve Jenkinson by Sarah Ketelaars.
