St Peter’s Church Messy part tw o

A Messy Church is to be held later this month with the theme of telling the Easter story. It will be on Saturday 29th March, from 2pm-5pm at St Peter’s Church in Belgrave Road, Seaford.

It follows the great success of a previous Messy Church held there just before Christmas. This time it is to encourage children to connect with the real meaning of Easter.

Children get the chance to enjoy themselves (under gentle supervision) and of course making a mess while helping to tell the story by creating a special garden which will include three crosses on a slight hill, representing the Crucifixion of course, and also the tomb of Jesus.

This will be at the Parish Rooms next to the church while parents and minders can sit back and watch. Then they will take their creation into the church itself and place it in front of the altar. A short service particularly tailored for the youngsters will be held for them and the accompanying adults.

Then it’s back to the Parish Rooms for something to eat, plus tea, coffee and squash.

The idea is to make this family fun for all. It’s all free and everyone is welcome, whether churchgoers or not, for adults as well as children, although it’s the children who will be having the most fun.

It could well be an Easter they will remember for quite a while.

It’s Lent, and to mark the season St Peter’s Church is holding four Lent lunches on the Fridays during March.

They begin with an observance of the Stations of the Cross at 12 noon, followed by the lunch, soup and a roll, at about 12.30pm.

Starting on Friday 6th March, they are free, with donations to the Homelink charity. They are open to everyone. You are invited to come along and join with others for reflection, and a chat over lunch.

St Peter’s is at Belgrave Road, Seaford, and these Lent lunches will be on 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th March. Alight here

The first lecture of the new season of East Blatchington Lectures will be on Tuesday 3rd March, and it will be given by the Rector of St Peter’s, who is also Chaplain to the Mayor of Seaford.

Intriguingly, the Rev Arwen Folkes will be talking about part of her life in Cornwall before she moved here a year ago, a time when she was living in a lighthouse. She is calling her talk Let There Be Light!

The lecture will be at St Peter’s Church, Belgrave Road, Seaford. It is open to all and tickets are £7, which includes tea and the cakes for which St Peter’s is justly famed. Tickets are available from Newberry Tully estate agents at 53 Church Street, Seaford.

The following month promises the return of one of the most popular speakers, the art historian Kay Blackburn, whose talks invariably sell-out, so you should get tickets early. This time, on Tuesday 7th April, she deals with perhaps the most famous artist of all, Leonardo da Vinci.
