Could You be a School Governor?
Could you be a sch ool governor?
Local schools in Seaford and nearby towns are actively in need of new school governors. You don’t need a background in education, and there are no qualifications beyond having access to email and being interested – in people, in schools, in the community, in making a small contribution to society. You might also have relevant experience – perhaps in business, finance or health – but full training is provided. The best type of governor has a little time to offer and a lot of questions to ask!

Seaf ord Stam p & Post Card Club
Tony’s display, ‘1840 and All That!’, was very widereaching and started with letters from the 1840s relating to the introduction of the corn laws and some items from the pre-stamp period. The display contained a lot of original documents, engravings and other material such as an early Valentines card from 1852 and Christmas card from 1872, both of which were particularly fine, with movable parts and beautiful artwork. Of particular note were the colourful Victorian hand-drawn envelopes and skillfully engraved writing paper. There was also a good sprinkling of Victorian and later stamps interspersed throughout the display. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evening and thank you again Tony for you presentation. At our next meeting on 12th February, Rosemary and Laurie Holland presented their remarkably fine collection of Seaford postcards. On 11th March we have our AGM and postcard and stamp competitions, and Maurice Shorten will give a display on ‘Victor Hugo etc’ at our 8th April meeting. If any of these evenings interests you, you’re welcome to come along.
The club holds its meetings every second Wednesday in the month at the Constitutional Club in Crouch Lane. The meeting starts at 7pm and ends at around 9.15pm. Details can be obtained from the club secretary David Manthorpe 01323 492433, email: david.manthorpe10@gmail.com.
