The Youth Counselling Project

The Youth Counselling Project is in urgent need of a bid writer to help the charity raise funds to pay for more than 60 school students a year to receive much-needed therapy delivered by appropriately trained counsellors. We have ample proof of how well supported by the town The Youth Counselling Project is, with £7,000 being raised locally last year; but this sum is only a fraction of the whole amount needed in order to offer ten sessions of therapy to each child, some of whom are as young as eight years old. The disturbing fact is that according to the Director of Public Health for East Sussex, 11% of boys and 8% of girls aged five to 16 have a clinically significant mental health problem. It is for this reason that The Youth Counselling Project was set up to provide school-based counselling by specialist counsellors trained to work with young people and their particular needs. When The Youth Counselling Project began it was as a pilot project based at Seaford Head School, but three years down the line the town’s primary schools are also involved, with therapists supporting several young pupils. If you think you fit the bid-writing bill, or know someone with the necessary skills, please get in touch via www.tycp.org.uk. Bingo Night One of The Youth Counselling Project’s most helpful organisations is Martello Rotary which will be running a Bingo Night for us at Cradle Hill School on Friday 24th April. Seaford Head, Cradle Hill and Chyngton primary schools are also raising money for the project this year, along with the Mayor, Cllr Nazish Adil, through her charity fund, Seaford Community Cinema and the Coop. Every little counts and if you are able to hold a fundraiser, however big or small, it would be so appreciated. Again, go to www.tycop.org.uk for more info. Seaf ord Museum & Heritag e Soci ety
March sees the museum moving to our summer opening hours –which means you will be able to visit the museum on Wednesday afternoons, from 2pm – 4pm as well as weekends 11am – 4pm. We are hoping the weather will become more summery too!
Our Golden Anniversary lecture season got off to an amazing start with Kevin Gordon’s Favourite Views of Seaford generating a full house – unfortunately we even had to turn people away!
For Museum members only we will be holding our AGM on 13th March at 7pm in the Little Theatre.
Would you be interested in joining us? We are holding a special meeting at the Museum on Saturday 28th March, 10am - 12 noon, to provide information for anyone who would like to join our band of willing volunteers who act as stewards when we are open or who help with some of the many other jobs we have. Come along and meet us!

On Monday 6th April and Friday 17th April, we are thrilled to welcome Seaford-based SCIP (Seaford Contemporary Illustrators and Printmakers), who will be running ‘See The Past, Design The Future’ workshops for 4 – 16 year olds. This collaboration will launch the museum’s card competition, and four winners will have their greeting cards printed for sale as well as some other treats. Booking for these workshops is essential and should be made through the SCIP website at www.wearescip.co.uk, where you can find all the information about this exciting event.
‘The Martello is an iconic part of Seaford, and we are so excited to be bringing visitors into the space to view it in a new and fresh way…’ says Alice Carter, SCIP Cofounder. Then, over the Easter weekend, 10th-13th April, we are holding our popular Easter Egg hunt. Friday 17th April also sees our talks going to summer hours, 7.30pm, and a talk on The Red Baron’s First Englishman by Jill Bush should prove very entertaining.
