The Garden Show
at Firle Place 16th - 18th October, 10am - 5pm daily Firle, Nr Lewes, BN8 6LP.
We are sure you are as keen to get out and about as we are. The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted all our lives and cast a blight on those otherwise hardy perennials, The Garden Shows at Firle, Stansted and Loseley. However, the country is opening up again and we are pleased to announce the shows are good to go ahead and ready to blossom again. We have already had two very successful shows this year at both Loseley Park and Stansted Park. The showground layouts were altered so that physical distancing could be maintained, and other safety regulations were implemented so you may be confident that everyone’s wellbeing and good health comes first. Although there will be necessary change the essence remains the same: ‘to support the smaller business and have a good day out in beautiful locations’. Now is the chance to be social and gather together again, albeit at a safe scial distance. The Garden Show at Firle Place is now in its 13th year, proving that it’s the perfect time and place to plot and plan for the garden year, and be inspired to enhance the home and your lifestyle with specialist growers guiding one to the right plant for the garden and the right place in the garden for that plant. Although there will be fewer plants, it’s the perfect time for autumn planting with trees, shrubs, bulbs, winter flowering and indoor plants too! Plenty of garden-related goods, artisan designs, homeware products, garden furniture, sundries, fashion accessories and the most delicious harvest festival of country foods… So why not do a bit of early Christmas shopping? The show specifically encourages the smaller businesses, and the majority of stands are from the local area. New for 2020 the Studio Shops in the beautiful Old Georgian Riding School, showcasing and demonstrating unique artisan and design work, and Weald Craft Tent will be full with a variety of craft wares.

Apart from the extensive selection of retail companies at the Show there are many other attractions. Expert advice daily from The Gardening Doctors, Val and Steve Bradley. The show welcomes back, on the Sunday, Ben Cross from Crosslands Nursery, who will be extolling the British Cut Flower Industry … ‘British Flowers Rock!’ Ben has grown a bumper crop of flowers, but was worried that they would go to waste, so instead he teamed up with a supermarket to send his blooms to frontline NHS workers with their food orders. Visitors have the opportunity to wander up to beautiful St Peter’s Church and into Firle Place Herb Garden and around to the Park. There are plenty of activities on site to keep all the family occupied, including The Giant Tombola, a chance to win amazing prizes donated by The Garden Show exhibitors in aid of Hands of Hope, the show’s chosen charity (www.hohcharity.co.uk). There will be all the fun of the fair, keeping younger visitors busy and happy whilst anyone from 5 years to any age can try their hand at archery! There will be ongoing Artisan workshops and demonstrations, and The Jazz Trio will be wandering the gardens delighting all with their evocative music whilst Huxley Birds of Prey thrill the crowds as they soar to the skies. The children’s entertainment on the Saturday and Sunday will bring smiles as they learn to juggle with the jester and join in on a fantastical Halloween Treasure Hunt for younger visitors along with fab Punch and Judy shows! All this and much more. A great day out for the whole family. Life is good in your garden!
