Issue #33 OCT-DEC, 2017
Welcome to our 33rd Edition as we continue on the Way to Japan. During our Christmas season we must remember to not forget the Peace and Joy that comes with the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ who is revered by Christians as the Messiah, the Son of God. 2017 was a successful year with many of our members qualifying and taking part in Tournaments outside of Trinidad and Tobago such as Curacao, Suriname, Venezuela. Unfortunately during the year we lost two family members in the persons of Marc Chin and Dever. May their souls rest in peace. May you all have a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2018. I also take this opportunity to let members know that the IKD World will be held in Barbados 2018. So start training.

TKA Nationals was also held in October 2017. Nine clubs participated. Well coordinated by husband and wife team of Alana and David Ramsundar, this TTKU sanctioned tournament was one of the largest TKA national tournaments ever organized. The form of judging was also changed as the new WKF tournament rules were applied and judges wore the grey pants and white shirts with tie used by WKF judges. One saw competitors from TTKU member dojos such as TAK, K-SKIFF and SKIFF and non-members such as Torokan.

Lighter side of KARATE EDITOR’S NOTE
• You accept change from the cashier using a perfect knife hand with the thumb carefully tucked in.
In the last three editions we focused on high performance training, tournaments, completion and the serious side of Karate. But Karatekas do have fun and enjoy themselves so we decided to portray the lighter side of Karate in this edition. It is not only about serious training. We do have fun and a good laugh. So enjoy our comedy edition.
• When you’re outside doing landscaping/gardening you “practice” with all the neat weapons. • You look for a place to live based on the amount of practice space it provides. • “GAK! NO! The left side of the bathrobe goes on top....” • You use various strikes to turn lights off and on. • You open and close doors with spinning kicks.
Karate Jokes
You Might Be A Martial Artist If.....
• You try to backfist the correct floor button on the inside of the elevator, based on your memory of the button’s location, before you get in far enough to see it.
• You trip, go into a roll and come up in a fighting stance. In church.
• You notice you never stand with your arms crossed or your hands in your pockets.
• You answer your boss “Kiai”.
• You find yourself practicing stances while standing in lines.
• You put your hands together in a martial arts bow position (one hand open the other closed) after • You bow going into and out of the bathroom. grace at the dinner table. • You are introduced to someone and you bow to greet them • You tie your bathrobe belt in a square knot. Then check to make sure the ends are exactly even.
