David Atkins Shared Journeys
11 April - 28 April 2015 You are invited to the Private View on Saturday 11 April at 12 Noon David Atkins will be in attendance
Shared Journeys Discovered and mentored by renowned art critic Brian Sewell the tradition of landscape painting has always been at the heart of David’s drawing and paintings. David works directly from the environment, often revisiting places many times and in ever changing weather and seasons. Prior to any exhibition by a landscape painter the normal discussions of places to paint are paramount but, on this occasion David asked the public to decide where he paints. Titled Shared Journeys the exhibition is an idea that derives from David’s chance encounters with the public during his painting sessions. He says:“I am often engaged in conversation with passers-by who stop to see what I am painting whilst I am out working in situ. More often than not they will suggest a landscape that I should visit, a place or a view, somewhere that they have discovered and think might inspire me.” Such a fleeting suggestion holds for him the potential to uncover something exciting and inspirational. Kenneth Clarke stated, “With the exception of love, there is nothing else by which people of all kinds are more united than by their pleasure in a good view.” Atkins is aware that some sights can move you deeply and that you find something indefinable, something that makes you feel totally alive. David Atkins attended some of Britain’s finest art schools including St. Martins School of Art and Winchester School of Art. David’s work is now highly collectable and regularly commands 4 to 5 figure sums, with age on his side and the strength of his work prices will no doubt continue to rise.
