PAUL WRIGHT A Brush With Life

A Brush With Life - Foreword Influenced by Freud, Auerbach and De Kooning, Paul Wright’s paintings are unmistakable. Using a rich palette and creating a wonderful texture his bold brush strokes exude confidence in his technical ability. Previously nominated for the BP Portrait Award, Paul studied at Loughborough and Falmouth Schools of Art before embarking on a 15 year career as a painter. Paul’s works are now exhibited internationally and have found their way into many corporate and private art collections. Paul frequently works on a large and potentially imposing scale, but his paintings remain approachable through his fluency of brush mark and his palette. The spaces the subjects inhabit are often indeterminate, providing an atmosphere that allows for an ambiguity of their psychological state: whilst his subjects retain their integrity, a sense of intimacy is evoked. Darryl McCarthy, renowned art journalist, critic and collector says of Paul: “Paul Wright has emerged as an accomplished and immensely talented artist; a defiant standard-bearer for the qualities of technique, craftsmanship, colour and texture in painting. Although he is clearly influenced by the best traditions of fine art, his approach is individual, contemporary and powerful.”
