Keynote Speaker: Judge Dwayne Christopher Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The Honorable Brother Dwayne Christopher was born and raised in Tacoma and is the proud son of retired Tacoma School District educators. His father, Brother Cordell Christopher, is the first initiate of the Iota Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Brother Dwayne Christopher was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha on April 1, 2006. Judge Christopher received his B.A. degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and his Juris Doctorate from Seattle University School of, formerly known as University of Puget Sound Law School. Judge Christopher started his legal career as a Judicial Assistant in Pierce County Superior Court for the now retired Judge Brian Tollefson. Following his employment with Superior Court, Brother Christopher worked as a civil defense attorney in Seattle for GEICO insurance company and the law firm of Cole, Lether, Wathen, Leid and Hall. In 2011, Judge Christopher opened his own law practice in Tacoma representing plaintiffs in personal injury and employment discrimination cases. He also served as a Pro Tem Judge in Pierce County District Court. On November 6, 2018, the Hon. Brother Dwayne Christopher made history by being elected the first African American Judge for Tacoma Municipal Court. Judge Christopher served as a Trustee and Chair of the Diversity committee for the Tacoma Pierce County Bar Association (TPCBA) and was a previous Board member for the Loren Miller Bar Association. He is a recipient of the Live United award from United Way, Award of Excellence from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Men of Excellence Award from the Caballeros Club, and the Service to Diversity Award from TPCBA. Brother Christopher is currently the Board President for Palmer Scholars and serves as a mentor to students throughout Pierce County.
