TRAVELIN G AT HOME

S E P T EMB ER 20 20

Solitude, oil on canvas, 30 x 30 in.

Z.Z.’s Wei’s “Traveling at Home” is a response to our current collective need to shelter-in-place and the ways we are all connected despite our isolation. This body of work continues Wei’s quintessential style and mood, depicting landscapes that hold solitude, sentiment and silence. Now within the context of the global pandemic, new light is shed on what has always existed in Wei's paintings and elements of the universal human condition have added emphasis. Timea Tihanyi / Counter-Par t

This body of work was created while Tihanyi sheltered in place during the current world-wide epidemic. By acknowledging the way technology mediates and transforms many aspects of our lives, Tihanyi’s sculptural objects tend look inward, questioning and reassessing her own place within structures of tradition, permanence, and resilience. Tihanyi’s grandmother made her living by embroidery in early 20th-century Hungary. Textile patterns collected in the region form the basis of Tihanyi’s recent explorations of texture in ceramics.
