A delightful venue for any civil wedding ceremony and reception, the main court room is a light, airy, beamed hall named Tapestries and can host up to 100 guests. The Grand Marquee is another option. Enclosed in Christopher Wren's Walled Garden, it caters for up 500 guests. No other venue in Warwickshire has a permanent marquee for weddings and events and Wroxall Abbey's Grand Marquee represents a truly exclusive private location for the whole day. A WEDDING GOWN FIT FOR A QUEEN It was Queen Victoria who first made popular the white wedding dress in 1840, when she married Prince Albert. However, no matter what your status in life.... the 21st Century Bride is able to take choose from a vast range of shades, textures and materials to create that WOW factor that will impress and amaze her Bridegroom, as well as all their family and friends. All wedding gowns are beautiful, but choosing the right one can accentuate your best assets and hide any areas you're more conscious of, no matter what your shape or size. The five most popular styles of wedding gowns include: A-Line/Princess: Named after the shape the dress visually creates, this style is classic and simple. Fitted around the bodice and flowing out to the ground, the A-line dress looks stunning whether it's worn short and chic above the knee or as a more glamous full length version that flows into a large train. The classic design of the A-Line dress lends itself to all types of materials and can be made with everything from free-flowing silks to heavier fabrics such as satin. By utilizing vertical panels that run from the neckline to the hem, the Princess cut version of the A-line dress is more dramatic and emphasizes this style’s clean lines. What Shapes would be Enhanced by the A-Line/Princess: A good general option for almost any bride, the full skirt of the A-line can hide a rounder lower body or create the illusion of curves on a narrow frame. However, if you wish your dress to make you look slimmer, the Princess style is a great option; with its elongated lines creating a 'slimming effect', as the eye naturally focuses on the length of the dress.

Empire: The Empire dress is unique with its raised waistline sitting just below the bust, from which the material of the dress flows down. Empire dresses look equally good with either longer bell-shaped sleeves through to the sleeveless version. Likewise, this style of dress is suitable for a number of different skirt lengths that can flow freely or contour to your body. Traditionally made from lighter fabrics, the Empire dress takes on a romantic feel. What Shapes would be Enhanced by the Empire Dress: An empire dress works well on most body types but is specifically flattering for a bride looking to enhance her bust. On the other hand, brides with large busts also like empire dresses because the traditional square can better cover larger breasts. This dress is also ideal for pear-shaped figures, as it is forgiving of the legs and hips. Because of the room in the stomach area, this is also an ideal dress for pregnant brides. Column/Sheath: As the name suggests, the Column dress has a narrow shape that flows straight down from the top to the bottom. Also referred to as a Sheath, this style of dress tends to hug the body and show any and all of your curves. A Column dress can be made as a simple slip dress in a delicate fabric to a more contoured dress made of heavier fabrics such as damask. What Shapes would be Enhanced by the Column/Sheath Dress: Although a timeless style, the Column dress is typically not as forgiving as other styles and is best suited for thinner brides. Petite brides can tend to look taller and longer in a Column dress, but there's not much room for hiding problem areas. Also beware that some Column dresses are very tight and may restrict movement on the dance floor!


Ball Gown: With its' fitted bodice and full skirt, that can be either one piece or separate, this is the style of dress seen in fairy tales weddings. Perfect for big, traditional weddings, this style of dress is suited to a kaleidoscope of fabrics; with a delicate satin to chiffon used on top, along with layers of taffeta or tulle on the bottom to create a floating effect. Why not compliment your Ball Gown wedding dress with long gloves and a dramatic train for an even greater WOW factor. What Shapes would be Enhanced by the Ball Gown: While many brides will look beautiful in a ball gown, the cut is ideal for slender or pear-shaped figures as the full skirt helps to accentuate the waist and hide the lower body. Additionally, this style helps create the hourglass look because it emphasizes the waistline. If you're shorter, beware that a skirt of this size can overpower a small frame. Mermaid: This style of wedding dress is a very sexy look that highlights a woman’s curves. Its silhouette contours to the body from the chest to the knee, and then flares out to the hem. Totally adaptable, this dress style comes in various versions from strapless, to halter, or trumpet flare and even flamenco. What Shapes would be Enhanced by the Mermaid dress: Flattering on slender, short and tall figures, the Mermaid is best worn by brides who are confident and comfortable in their skin, due to its body-hugging cut. FINDING YOUR PERFECT SIZE: Having found a dress you love, it's now important to ensure you get one that fits you perfectly and with every dress manufacturer having their own sizing chart, that can prove to be a bit tricky. The first step to finding your perfect fit is to be properly meas-

ured with a vinyl measuring tape (cloth tapes can stretch) by a tailor at your bridal store. Once your measurements have been taken, check them against the wedding dress manufacturer's sizing chart to choose the dress that matches your largest measurements - usually if your dress shop is ordering for you, they'll take care of this step. Don’t be alarmed if your wedding dress size is different than your everyday non-wedding clothes. It is quite common for dress sizes to be at least one or two sizes larger than the size you're used to wearing. If you are planning to lose weight before the wedding, be very realistic about the size you expect to be on your wedding day. You can always make a dress a little smaller.... but it's near impossible to make a wedding dress larger. Almost every woman will need a little alteration when it comes to her wedding dress; with the entire sizing and fitting process generally taking up to four to six weeks - or even longer if your gown needs to be custom ordered. So allow plenty of this for this. Also, remember to wear the same lingerie and shoes that you'll be wearing on your wedding day, so that your tailor can get accurate measurements. Your Wedding Day should be one of the happiest days of your life, giving you wonderful memories to treasure for years to come. Choosing the right wedding gown should definitely be high on your list of priorities, as you will want to look and feel your very best on this Special Day. So choose a dress that fits properly, flatters your figure and makes you feel like the beautiful bride you are! Whilst at the same time ensuring you choose a gown you will feel comfortable wearing throughout the whole day and evening too!

Hen night ideas Hen nights - we love them here at your wedding planner. But when you're landed - sorry gifted - the role of chief bridesmaid, dreaming up the best hen night ideas can be a daunting task. We used to make do with a good night out on the town in fancy dress, L plates and with a bag full of willy straws (personally, we love those nights). But today's brides-to-be are increasingly on the look out for some more unusual hen night ideas. So we've done a bit of research and chosen what we believe to be the best hen night ideas out there. There's poles, make up, scones and jam and a lot of vodka shots in the mix. Intrigued...? Read on for some more original hen night ideas...

1. A right knees up Is your bride-to-be a fan of all things British? Would she rather spend an evening snuggled up by a warm fire sipping tea than out on the town glugging back tequila? Well then, chief bridesmaid, we have the perfect hen night idea for you - afternoon tea. Now we don't just mean a cuppa and a digestive biscuit in your tiny kitchen. We mean the full works at one of the many hotels that offer afternoon tea. The Ritz in London is the classic afternoon tea venue (you have to book that one in advance) but lots of hotels now have a cutesy afternoon tea on offer. Cakes, scones, crumpets and a good cup of tea in a luxury setting? Sounds perfect to us.

2. A day at the races Are you and your group of lovely ladies betting fans? Then put on your best frock, a nice pair of (comfy!) heels and, if you're going glam, a fancy hat and head to the races! Perhaps it's not the best idea if your bride-to-be is a the seriously competitive type, but a day at the races with a nice glass of fizz can make the perfect hen party - and if you're lucky you can win some extra dosh. Channel your inner Eliza Doolittle for some serious championing of your horse.


3. Head to a festival A lot of cider, a lot more mud and a good dose of music - it can only be...a festival! If your bride-to-be is a little bit trendy and not too precious about getting covered in mud, a festival can be a brilliant hen night - or weekend, should we say. Glastonbury, Latitude, V Festival or one of the smaller (and maybe tamer!) festivals are excellent hen night ideas for the fun, laid back bride-to-be. It's also an excellent bonding session for all of the hens. If you can't bond over tiny tents, pouring rain and over-flowing toilets, what can you bond over?

4. Pamper party We think it's very important to pamper ourselves every now and then. But sadly the opportunity just doesn't come up often enough. That's why it's a good idea to use a hen night as the perfect excuse for a day long pampering session. Book everyone into a spa, and spend the day having massages, facials, swimming in the pool and sitting in the jacuzzi, perfect!

5. Get crafty Craft is big at the moment, so it's no surprise that it's taking over the hen night world. There are all sorts of crafty classes you can arrange for your friend's hen night. You can make jewellery, fascinators for the wedding and even garters (steady now). It's a great way to bond with the other hens, and at the end of it you have something to remember you special day by, perfect!


6. Bake and make If you don't think craft is quite up your bride-to-be's street, but you know she loves donning an apron and cooking up a feast in the kitchen, a baking class might be a better option. There are so many to choose from, but we're particularly big fans of cup cake making classes (yes we know they're going out of fashion, but they're so yummy and so pretty), bread making classes and sushi making classes. The best thing about the cooking class is that you can all sit down at the end of your day and scoff the labours of your hard work with a glass of Prosecco in hand. Plus, you come away with a little bit of cooking know how.

7. Get boozy Ok, so your bride-to-be likes the idea of making something, but she can't be bothered to get crafty and she hates cooking (fussy much?) The solution - cocktail making classes! Whether you're a Mojito mama or a Long Island lady, you can learn how to make your favourite cocktail to perfection. Or you might even come up with your own concoction. The best thing about cocktail making classes is that you normally get to have a few little tasters as you go. Or is the best thing actually the dashing cocktail waiters? Hmm, we can't decide... Of course if making cocktails sounds a bit too much like hard work, you could always opt for wine tasting, which is one of our personal favourites.

8. Make up masterclass Hang on a second, a hen party that is fun and also practical? We're sold on make up master classes as hen night idea. Because as well as having a giggle with the girls, you can learn about what type of make up suits you and how to apply it - tips that will be handy on the wedding day, and for the rest of your life! Eventspiration do some great classes (and they're not too pricey either!) but a quick search is bound to find you some great classes in the area.


9. Dirty dancing We love a good dance here at your wedding planner, and we're really excited to hear that dance classes are becoming a very popular hen night idea. You can either opt for the sexy and the seductive - pole dancing, burlesque dancing (well, she's going to be a married woman soon, she might as well have some fun!). Or, you could choose something a little more....cheesy. Yes, we're talking about Glee dance classes. They're seriously fun, if you can handle the cringe, and perfect if your bride-to-be is a musical maniac.

10. Get musical Speaking of loving musicals, another great hen night idea is a trip to a musical of your bride-to-be's choice. We don't like to stereotype, of course, but a trip to see Legally Blonde can be a brilliant hen night out. But there are always tonnes of musicals going on - Lion King, Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia, Rock of Ages, we love them all. If your bride-to-be isn't a cheese chaser, she might prefer a different kind of musical hen night - a group trip to a recording studio. Yep, a lot of hen parties are doing it. Who cares if you're no Adele, it's the taking part that counts!

No doubt about it: Music can make or break a wedding celebration. It's the heart and soul of a reception and can send your guests home with happy feet -or pained grimaces! The fact that you want to hire a talented band or fleet-fingered DJ is a given. Finding one is a matter of polling friends, surfing online, shopping around with fine-tuned ears, and making a move quickly -- top talent can get booked up to a year in advance. What type of entertainment suits your personal taste, budget, space allowances, guest demographics, and killer dance moves best? Keep an open mind, and consider these issues to start your search.

Vibe The type of music you choose can set the tone of your wedding and solidify a theme. And remember, it's the thing people most often remember. Think about what musical genre best reflects your personalities and inspires the ambience you want to create: Groovy funk or subdued string quartet? Swanky swing or kickoff-your-shoes-and-sweat zydeco? The way the music

is delivered -- by live band or DJ -- also affects the ambience. The type of music you choose may dictate the choice too -- big band sounds are generally best live, for example.

Variety Are you a little bit country, while he's a little bit rock and roll? Regardless of whether you choose a band or DJ, be sure they play slow and fast songs, and old and new tunes to encourage different sets of guests to hit the dance floor.

Budget In the price war, DJs generally cost less, and prices vary depending on equipment requests and whether it's a weekday or a weekend. A 12-piece band, for example, will generally be more expensive than a DJ, since there are more people to pay. (There are always exceptions; celebrity DJs can be just as expensive as live bands.) Band prices vary by the number of musicians, the amount of time you want them to play for, day of the week, and what time of year it is.

Space Don't get your heart set on an 8-piece salsa band before you check whether the reception site has any restrictions on the number of musicians and pieces of equipment you may bring in, and whether there are any electrical power supply or noise limitations. For example, a registered landmark reception site may not allow you to use large speakers. Ask these questions before you start scouting bands.


Band? or...

You Must Remember This...

There's nothing like a live wedding band to get a crowd stoked and create a sense of sophistication. Music groups can synergize with the tone of your wedding and almost any niche theme, offering everything from accordion to klezmer ditties. A good bandleader will play the master of ceremonies at your reception if you want him to interact with folks on the dance floor, pay attention to the "feel" of the room, and select music accordingly. Pros: Live music is, well, live. You and your guests will experience the pleasure of a performance. Anything can happen to raise the excitement level, from an infectious horn-section interlude to a moving solo. Cons: Bands can be more expensive than DJs. Also, no matter how great the band, they can't have the repertoire of a standard DJ, who can keep a huge variety of music on hand.

Ideally, you will want to see a DJ or band in action before you commit so that you can gauge firsthand the way they dress, deadpan, and work the crowd. (Ask to see a taped public performance or attend a dress rehearsal, but you should never crash another couple's reception.) If that's not a possibility, ask for a playlist, and look for songs you know and love. If a band gives you a CD, cassette, or video, be sure that the musicians you hear or see are the same musicians who will play at your reception. Also, ask for referrals from the last few weddings the band or DJ played. Consider your first-dance song a test. If the band doesn't know it and is unwilling to learn it, or the DJ doesn't own it and is unwilling to get it, move on.

...DJ? Don't fear the DJ: The days of disco fever and flashing lights are gone. Today's disc jockeys are artists in their own right, offering balanced and eclectic mixes of musical styles for all ages. Plus, the songs played will sound exactly as you remember them, encouraging sing-alongs and improvisation. And, depending on the amount of equipment a DJ brings, she'll take up less dance floor real estate and can be relocated with relative ease. Pros: If there are a dozen songs you're dying to hear at your wedding, it likely won't be a problem for your DJ to find each track Also, DJs are generally less expensive than bands. A DJ with a charismatic stage presence and excellent emcee skills can really set the mood and keep the party going. Cons: On the opposite end of the spectrum, a DJ with a less-than stellar personality can be a partykiller. Also, improvisation is tough if, say, your dad is dragging behind tempo on the father-daughter dance or your nieces and nephews decide to crash the chicken dance.

Before You Sign Know that all professionals should be open to your likes and dislikes. Give them your personal request list, songs they must, and, perhaps more importantly, a do-not-play list. The perfect wedding planner is worth their weight in gold. They will have knowledge of the local area, be able to speak the local language and be able to source the best extras for you. 2) Beware of those hidden extras Chose a company that has clear wedding package inclusions. Know exactly what you are getting for your money, and read through any contract carefully. It’s important to know what you are getting, but its also important to know what other things you may want and to get quotes for them too

3) Look for free wedding packages With a wedding abroad, it’s more than likely the case that the majority of your friends and family will be flying out with you, you may also want to stay in the same hotel. Some hotels will offer free wedding packages which include the basics. Generally there has to be a certain number of people travelling with you, or you have to book a certain room type.

4) Which destination? There are many things to consider when

picking the destination you want to marry in. Is there a country that means a lot to you? Did you get engaged while on holiday and now you want to go back there? Weddings abroad don’t have to be about wedding ceremonies on the beach. In Cyprus, you can marry legally in church, or what about on an animal sanctuary in Kenya, or even a hotel made completely of ice in Lapland?

Book Early Your hair should not be a last-minute consideration. Remember that your hairstyle can make or break a look. You’ll want to really explore the different styles that you can achieve, according to your overall concept, your dress, the height of your shoes etc; everything needs to be taken into account. Therefore book your appointment early, try out several options and practise two or three times before the big day. You’ll also want to discuss with your stylist your colour, the length of your hair and the condition of your hair. Ask them to develop a programme for you which will mean that your hair is at the ideal length and in the peak of its condition for your ‘do’s requirements. Work the Room Be sure to inquire if your florist has done weddings at your ceremony and/or reception sites before. If so, he or she may have pictures of arrangements done at your site and will be knowledgeable about what sizes, shapes, and colors work in the space. If not, he or she should be willing to scope out the space and familiarize him or herself with any limitations. At the very least, bring along some sort of photo (a press kit or pamphlet) in case she or he has never worked a wedding there before, so that you're starting with an idea of the space. Professional Fireworks used in displays consist of a mixture of Shells, Roman Candles, Mines, Fountains/Gerbs, Set Pieces and Multi-shot Cakes.

Shells: These are the most spectacular of fireworks comprising a lifting charge (to propel the shell into the air) and a bursting charge to eject stars or subassemblies in the air after a predetermined delay. Shells are fired from mortar tubes with a lifting charge of gunpowder that explodes in the tube to launch the shell, this also lights the shell’s in-flight fuse. The shell’s fuse burns while the shell rises to its correct altitude, and then ignites the internal bursting charge so it explodes. A shell consists of a paper casing, shepherical or cylindrical, filled with stars and gunpowder. Stars come in all shapes and sizes, but are something like sparkler compound formed into a ball the size of a pea. The stars are poured into the shell casing and then surrounded by black powder. When the fuse burns into the shell, it ignites the bursting charge, causing the shell to explode. The explosion ignites the outside of the stars, which begin to burn with bright showers of sparks. Since the explosion throws the stars in all directions, you get the huge sphere of sparkling light that is so familiar at larger fireworks displays. Shells may contain a variety of different coloured stars, while some shells contain explosives designed to crackle or whistle, or contain Flash powder which produces a loud report. Mines: These are, in effect, shells which burst at ground level. They eject a flurry of breathtaking coloured stars and/ or noise effects up to 80 ft. Fountain mines are proceeded by a short 10/15 second spray and usually finish with a loud gasp from the crowd. Roman Candles: These long fireworks consist of a tube which fires a succession of coloured stars and/or noise effects 30/150 ft into the air. A battery or barrage, consists of several candles bunched and fused together for rapid firing, whilst a bouquet is candles fused together on a fan-like wooden frame. Fountains/Gerbs: A ground firework which produces a spray of sparks which can reach over 20 ft. Some fountains are conic in shape producing an increased volume of sparks and noise over it’s burning time. Cakes: Clusters of small or large Roman Candles fused together to send a continuous stream of stars and/or noise effects 40- 120 ft into the air. Finale Cakes can contain up to 300 units and/or a mixture of Mines, which can fire in Fans or in waves of sequenced effects.


Set Pieces: There are many types of set pieces, while considered a more traditional and even old fashioned piece for a display, they are starting to make a return in some events. They can consist of static or rotating fireworks all fused together, which are attached to timber posts several feet off the ground. These stunning lattice and mosaic pieces are designed to produce beautiful effects and captivate the audience’s attention for up to 1 minute.
