Established in 1993 and set in stunning parkland with mature woodland is Mid Yorkshire Golf Club. Hosting a championship standard 18 hole, 6,300 yard course this golf club is hosting a number of Open competitions this year including the annual Stonacre Pro AM. Originally designed by Steve Marnoch, this course was the first privately owned golf course to be constructed in Yorkshire since World War II and has developed leaps and bounds since then. As well as the golf course there is also a 23 bay floodlit driving range that can either be a warm up before a round for a more experienced player or practice for the more novice individual. The well stocked, newly refurbished pro-shop has the option to have custom fitting using Flightscope technology. Along with this it also stocks a comprehensive range of golf clothing, equipment and accessories in a variety of top name brands such as Callaway, Taylormade and Adidas. If the ladies want the same attention to detail as the male golfers require then Mid Yorkshire Golf are on hand to help with this too by having a dedicated ladies shop alongside the pro-shop, making sure that the female fanatics get exactly the same attention and quality. Once you’ve been kitted out with all the latest equipment you can go either straight for the course or you could take advantage of Mid Yorkshire Golf Club’s very own golf school, Stonacre Golf Academy. This academy offers both on and off course coaching and caters lessons around the individual’s ability. If the individual is a junior then this isn’t a problem either with junior lessons having the option of being in a group or one on one. Again this isn’t just for men and the younger golfing generations, ladies coffee mornings are available, allowing aspiring women golfers to come along, have a coffee and a natter as well as some golfing tips and technique pointers. Stonacre Golf Academy pride themselves on offering a first class service and helping you develop to the standard that you require, whether a beginner or an ambitious player they will help you reach your goals. Described by Yorkshire Golfer Magazine as ‘possibly the most accessible golf club in the country’ it is no wonder than Mid Yorkshire Golf as been nominated for the Golfers’ Choice Award 2013. The award measures the quality of customer service, facilities and value for money provided by clubs by asking players to rate them. This leaves nothing to the imagination where customer service is concerned, with a big emphasis on the welcoming of new members this golf club has really is the hidden gem of Yorkshire.

pursue a in golf; with many leading golf clubs around the world extremely thankful he made that decision! One of many landmarks in his life arrived in 1897, when he became a Founder Member of the Royal & Ancient Rules of Golf Committee, which now administers the Rules of Golf worldwide. Clyne Golf Club had this to say about its connection with Harry and the course he designed… ‘ Designed by Harry Colt in the 1920’s, the course offers a fine test of golf for all levels of handicap and we are justifiably proud of our connection to a man whose design and influence can also be seen at Muirfield, Sunningdale, Royal Lytham & St. Annes, Real Golf Pedrena (Seve’s course), and many other courses around the world.’ ‘Our fabulous club and course, which is in the very best of health, has a long and rich history, from our first professional Percy Alliss, among the finest players of his generation, through to his son Peter who listed us in his top 200 clubs, right up to our current Lady Champion, Louise Fleet who is Chairman of the Golf Union of Wales’. Clyne Golf Club’s outstanding moorland course is enhanced by the facilities on offer to members and visitors alike. A new spike friendly Coffee Lounge has views of the course, and seating is provided both inside and on the veranda for warmer days! The Clubhouse has large panoramic windows upstairs, and from the bar / restaurant spectators can watch the players on the 9th and 18th greens as well as the 10th tee area. There are ladies, gents and junior changing areas, and an indoor golf practice area. At the rear of the Clubhouse is a snooker room resplendent with a full size snooker table, its own bar area and Sky TV – which is available in both bars; with the juniors also having their own lounge and pool table. As Head PGA Professional at Clyne Golf Club Jonathan Clewett offers coaching right through from beginners to more elite players; using the most up-to-date computer analysis software for both coaching and club fitting. Jonathan also runs the Club’s Pro Shop, where visitors and members alike can buy a wide range of golf equipment, accessories and clothing from top names such as Titleist, Scotty Cameron, Cobra and Wilson, to name but a few. Receiving this accolade serves as a distinguishing factor that ranks Clyne Golf Club amongst the best in its field, as well as acting as a seal of approval to prospective members and visitors. ommenting on receiving this accolade, John Hollis, the Club’s General Manager, went on to say: e are naturally honoured to have won this award especially when you consider the prestigious course associated the Harry Colt Society. n addition to being General Manger at Clyne I have also been a member for over 40 years so I feel I can say with some authority that Clyne offers its members and visitors excellent value for money. A course that is challenging for both beginners and experienced golfers alike set in excellent surroundings on the Gower Peninsular which was the first area in the UK to be designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. n the spring of 2013 we hope to open our 6 bedroom 4* Dormy House alongside the clubhouse and would be delighted to welcome fellow Harry Colt Society members and those outside the society to what we feel will be an excellent addition to our facilities.

SOCIETY GOLF IN WARWICKSHIRE If you are organising a day out for your Golf Society LEAMINGTON AND COUNTY GOLF CLUB ticks all the right boxes....offering a challenging 18-hole course providing a test for golfers of all abilities, together with superb facilities, set in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside. Where else could you enjoy such a diverse course - made up of two loops of nine holes that start and finish tree-lined and hilly. This diverse course certainly is a testament to the skill and ingenuity of Hawtree & Son, the company that re-designed the original course created in 1908 when the Club was first established. Ideally located just off the M40 motorway in the heart of Warwickshire, visitors to the Club will find lots of interesting places on its doorstep, including historic Warwick with it's legendary Castle and the birthplace of the Bard - Stratford-upon-Avon. In a recent interview the Club's Secretary/Manager David Beck had this to say: "We welcome, individual, group and society visitors and can package single round or full day events." "Our restaurant, bar and catering facilities will help make your visit truly memorable. Run by Tracey Partridge and her team, our beautiful Club Lounge boasts magnificent views over the golf course, particularly from the Restaurant patio area, which is perfect on summer evenings to watch the sun set over the course while relaxing after a long game. Our restaurant is managed by Head Chef Andrew Ford, who trained at a French Michelin-starred restaurant and has worked at some of London’s finest hotels. He and his friendly and expert team welcome members and visitors alike and can also arrange bespoke menus for you if you have a special occasion and would like more than the standard club lounge meals." As you would expect from such a quality- conscious golf club, the new professionals Chris Thornton (PGA Head Professional) & Paul Aitkens (PGA Professional) started a complete overhaul of the retail facility and indoor teaching academy. The shop is part of one of the largest independent buying groups in the Midlands area enabling all those

who visit the club to purchase a wide range of all the latest products at highly competitive prices. Having being highly praised by visitors as ‘the best in the county’ it comes as no surprise that the club is rightly proud of its indoor academy which is one of only a few within Warwickshire. A full refurbishment of this has been completed and is known as the ‘Inclusive Golf Academy’. The academy offers all aspects of golf coaching from starter groups through to elite golfers. The facility includes the latest ball flight monitoring system which consistently measures ball characteristics with the tightest tolerances in the industry. For further information please feel free to contact Chris and Paul on 01926 425 961 (option 3) or www.inclusivegolfacademy. co.uk The Club’s commitment to encourage junior and beginner golf was highlighted when last year Leamington and County Golf Club was selected by a judging panel from the England Golf Partnership as one of three finalists from 600 nominated clubs for Golf Mark Club of the year 2012. After due process, the Judges singled out the Club to receive the Runners-Up Award 2012. We all wish the Club good luck in the 2013 Awards! The Club’s continual commitment to extend the range of services it provides members and visitors alike is evident in that Leamington and County Golf Club now offers playing members and playing visitors personal insurance, providing worldwide cover, personal liability and personal accident cover, completely free of charge.

FULFORD GOLF CLUB

Where Visitors Receive a True Yorkshire Welcome! Just one mile from historic York lies the magnificent FULFORD GOLF CLUB, a Club steeped in history itself. After getting the thumbs up by no less than James Braid, the current layout was designed by Major Charles Mackenzie, brother and business partner of Dr Alistair McKenzie designer of the championship Augusta course. Since its inception in 1906 the Club has played host to many important amateur and professional tournaments including 23 consecutive European Tour Events such as the Benson & Hedges, Sun Alliance, and the Murphy’s Cup, as well as hosting the first British Ladies Open Championship in 1973; with Major champions such as Ballesteros, Faldo, Lyle, Norman, Trevino and Woosnam having achieved success at Fulford. Built predominantly on sandy heathland, Fulford features superb turf and provides a true test of championship golf. Undoubtedly, Fulford’s quality greens were vital in enabling Ian Woosnam to blitz around the course in just 62 strokes in 1985; still the ‘all-comers’ record. But it is surely the image of a flaxen-haired Bernard Langer clambering 20 feet up the magnificent ash tree by the 17th green to play his third shot from the branches that sticks in the memory, an event that was televised around the world. Fulford is proud to be hosting the European Ladies Amateur Team Championships in July this year, for further details please visit the club web site. Fulford welcomes visitors and Society Group, all of whom are not only able to enjoy a testing and challenging game on a championship course, but also able to take advantage of the excellent facilities available at the Club including its

Clubhouse, where you can relax after your game and enjoy great hospitality. The Club’s General Manager, Gary Pearce explained in a recent interview: “Many visiting groups build a package to include food, with rates available for the day and round. No matter what size your group is, your party can be sure of a great day out. A wide choice of menu, excellent facilities and 18 holes of golf on our championship course ensures everyone has a memorable day. Our clubhouse and pro shop staff are on hand to assist you in the organisation of the day.”

Covering 165 acres of varied terrain, the course also offers a dedicated practice area situated next to the 16th fairway. With the Peover Eye River at its' heart, this challenging parkland course is considered one of the country's sternest tests for any golfer, as Secretary of the Club Ben Pearson outlined in a recent interview: "The tees and the greens have been positioned to maximise the benefits of the natural contours of the land. There is an excellent mix of holes varying in design and character with many doglegs and water hazards including the Peover Eye River which three of the fairways cross, including the first, so there's no relaxing from the offset." EDZELL GOLF CLUB hroughout the year, the Directors at the Golf Yearbook Online select Golf Clubs that have best demonstrated a proven ability to go that extra mile in not only meeting but exceeding the needs of their members and visitors alike. Therefore, in line with this philosophy, it gives us pleasure to announce EDZELL GOLF CLUB has been selected to receive the James Braid Course of the Year Award 2013, a totally independent Award Programme that is recognised both in this country and abroad.

Acknowledged as one of Scotland’s true hidden gems, Edzell Golf Course nestles in the delightful village of Edzell, midway between Dundee and Aberdeen, at the gateway to the Angus Glens, reaching into the foothills of the Grampian Mountains. Athough originally heath land in nature, a major tree-planting programme started in the 1960s has brought a ‘parkland air’ to the picturesque and peaceful setting.

The Award Scheme was created in order to recognise those businesses and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to their particular field. The Golf Yearbook Online is always keen to bring attention to those who are providing a product or service that stands out from the crowd and deserves to be appreciated not only by its’ readers, but also by a wider audience.

In 2001 the original course was complemented by the 9-hole West Water Course designed by Graeme Webster, as the Club’s PGA Professional Alastair Webster outlined in a recent interview:

With its tranquil setting in the foothills of the Grampians, providing fine views at every corner of the course, award-winning Edzell Golf Club offers an unforgettable experience, as players are given the chance to play on not one but two well-maintained courses.

“Players will soon realise why this course was so named, with both the 7th and 8th holes bordering the West Water. Whilst the course’s par-32 layout is predominantly flat parkland, players can enjoy beautiful scenic views from all of its tree-lined fairways.”

SECURES THE PRESTIGIOUS JAMES BRAID COURSE OF THE YEAR AWARD 2013

T

Designed by top golfer and architect Bob Simpson, Edzell’s 18-hole par 71 course was originally laid out in 1895 and amended some thirty-nine years later in line with recommendations from the legendary James Braid.

The Club prides itself in the warm welcome offered

to visitors and Golf Societies, all of whom are not only able to experience the best in golf, but also social facilities. Little wonder then so many visitors and Societies come back year after year! Key to securing this award was the commitment on the part of the Club continually to develop and improve the golf facilities it provides. The Club’s Secretary Andrew Turnbull added: “One of life’s certainties is that things will change! This is also true for our golf courses and facilities at Edzell Golf Club. Over the years, alterations and upgrades to the course and facilities at Edzell have been occurring almost on an annual basis, with new greens, tees and bunkers, practice facilities and a 9 hole golf course being added.” “In the autumn of 2011, the committee sought the services of a highly regarded golf course architect Martin Ebert of MacKenzie & Ebert, with a view to developing a course improvement plan, to ensure that future improvements would be based on a professional assessment. During the summer of 2012, the 18 hole course was surveyed and a comprehensive report, including proposals to improve the course, were submitted to the Club. The architect was also asked to advise on improving the driving range and his proposals for this are included in the report, which has subsequently been approved by the members.” As a consequence, a programme has been developed to implement the changes; with a budget drawn up

on the basis of a 3 to 4 year implementation period: Andrew added: “There are no financial borrowing requirements or exceptional member’s subscription increases necessary to implement the proposals.” In presenting this award, the Judges were also impressed with the Club’s dedication to maintain the high quality of its fairways, no matter what the weather. In line with this philosophy, the Club’s experienced Greenkeeper Graham Mackie has still managed to make improvements, despite experiencing the worst winter for decades: “We have taken the opportunity during the long winter to undertake some key maintenance tasks in order to keep the greens in excellent condition. As the weather has now started behaving, we have been able to get going with top dressing, green treatments, rubber crumbing, fairway and rough scarifying to name but a few”. Graham’s efforts have not gone unnoticed with comments on the Club’s Blog including the following: “Hello Graham, This past summer will long be remembered for rain, rain and more rain. You coped with this admirably – a credit to you and the team.” Lindsay Clark December 2012 “Hi Graham, Your staff and yourself are to be congratulated on the way the course is being maintained, especially in the extreme circumstances.” Phil

Soak up the warmth as friendly faces from all walks of life gather in anticipation of an interesting round, or relax afterwards to discuss the latest golfing dramas from around the course: “Full bar and catering facilities are available including a wide range of meals, including breakfasts, lunches, high teas, carveries and dinners. Our dedicated catering staff will be happy to meet the catering needs for visiting

Societies and other Groups of visitors.” With its friendly and genuinely welcoming atmosphere, the Clubhouse also provides the ideal venue for private celebrations and corporate hospitality: “We can accommodate special functions, celebrations and a wide range of family or business events and will be pleased to discuss your specific requirements. Our helpful staff will be on hand throughout your event to ensure it is a resounding success that is remembered for all the right reasons.” Run by PGA Pro Alastair Webster, the Club’s Pro Shop offers an array of superb golf equipment, accessories and clothing, all from leading manufacturers at reasonable prices: “Clubs, trolleys and buggies are available for hire and we also offer an excellent club repair service, Alastair added. If you want to take home a memento of your day, you can choose from a wide selection of logo goods, ranging from club sweaters to brass ball markers. Alastair has the necessary expertise to provide professional tuition on a one-2-one or group basis. Sessions are focussed, friendly, affordable and specifically matched to your personal requirements. As one of just six approved Callaway Custom Fitting Centres in Scotland, Edzell offer an excellent range of Callaway and Odyssey equipment tailored to your individual needs, as well as boasting the largest range of ladies golf clothing in the area. When you consider the quality of the two courses, together with the exceptional facilities, it comes as no surprise to learn Edzell regularly receives testimonials from visitors such as the following: “Edzell is easily one of the finest inland courses certainly in the East of Scotland. Not only is the course exceptional but the clubhouse facilities also get our vote as some of the best you will find. The food and waitress service is on a par with any fine-dining experience - so make sure you include a meal in your schedule.” - David Whyte. Receiving the James Braid Course of the Year Award 2013 is a milestone for the EDZELL GOLF CLUB and forms the final piece of the jigsaw that confirms the Club’s success, as well as acting as a seal of approval to prospective members and visitors. Commenting on receiving this accolade Ron Caithness, the Club Captain, said: “We’re delighted at the recognition this award provides. It reinforces the Club’s status as a destination of choice for casual visitors and society golfers alike. The investments we’ve continued to make in the overall facilities and the course in particular are fully justified if it leads to an excellent overall experience that both members and visitors believe gives real value for money.” EDZELL GOLF CLUB High Street, Edzell, Angus, Scotland DD9 7TF Tel: 01356 647283 Fax: 01356 648094 Email: secretary@edzellgolfclub.com Website: www.edzellgolfclub.com

KILMACOLM GOLF CLUB 'Described as a miniature Gleneagles'

If you are organising a day out for your Golf Society.........KILMACOLM GOLF CLUB ticks all the right boxes for a challenging game of golf and a splendid day out that your members will remember for all the right reasons! Since its inception in 1891 the Kilmacolm course has seen very few changes - the notable one taking place in 1924 when James Braid, the most famous professional of the day, was consulted and under his guidance several new bunkers and mounds were created. The result is the superb moorland course you see today, situated on a plateau some 400 feet above sea level, that lies on either side of the Houston Road. Described as a 'miniature Gleneagles', the course architects have made full use of the natural hills and hollows to create one of the most attractive of inland courses, as the Club's Secretary Victor Weldin explained in a recent interview: "One of the great attractions of the course is the fact that very few holes run in a similar direction. Whilst not overly long by modern standards, 5961 yards (SSS 69) off gents medal tees, and 5445 yards (SSS 72) off the ladies tees, accuracy is required to score well. "

The Club has built-up a reputation for the warm welcome it extends to visitors, who are able to take advantage of not only the Club's magnificent course, but also its superb facilities: "Kilmacolm boasts a friendly Clubhouse where visitors and members alike can partake of delicious snacks and meals, as well as a full range practice facility so you can perfect your swing and short game before tackling 18 holes. Having recently been voted one of the top 100 courses in Scotland, it comes as no surprise to learn that on the occasion of the Club's Centenary Bernard Gallacher, who succeeded Tony Jacklin as Captain of the European Ryder cup team, played an exhibition match, and afterwards wrote "It was a joy to play over your inland moorland course with all its heather, whins, bracken and fine backgrounds of fir trees." Belle Robertson, the renowned Scottish lady golfer lists Kilmacolm as one of her ten favourite Scottish Golf courses. THE VALE OF LEVEN GOLF CLUB Extends a Warm Welcome to Visitors & Societies

Founded in 1907, the VALE OF LEVEN GOLF CLUB has grown and gathered momentum over the years. Today both members and visitors are able to test their golfing skills on the Club's 18-hole course; with its' undulating fairways and fast greens providing a challenge for golfers of all abilities, as the Club's Secretary Richard Barclay outlined in a recent interview: " Often described as a 'hidden gem', the Course consists of an interesting mix of park and heath land, which overlooks the southern tip of Loch Lomond. The view from the 17th (The Ben) with its variety of woodland, moor, pasture, loch, glen and everlasting hills, can truly be described as breathtaking. From the highest point of the course the view extends as far as Dumbarton Rock and the Clyde estuary. Many changes have taken place over the years with several new greens, tees, bunkers, watering system etc all being completed. The improvement to the course is on-going. And it is with great pride we can look at our club and thank the committee, the Green Keeping Staff, the House Staff and members." The Vale of Leven Golf Club's Clubhouse is further evidence of its' continual commitment to improve the facilities it offers. Having started life as an old railway carriage that was transported from the local station by horse and cart, the Clubhouse today has been transformed, thanks to the support of many of its members, who volunteered their help to provide players with a warm, friendly environment in which they can relax and socialise with fellow players. "The club has recently undergone another major renovation, in way of our new extension to the Clubhouse building. The new build now hosts our Gents, Ladies, Veterans and Junior Locker rooms augmented by the refurbishing of our old locker rooms. This has given the club the ability to provide a locker to every member joining the Golf Club. The development has also freed up a section of the building which has now been converted into a Junior clubhouse area complete with pool table and TV." Visitors and Societies are made really welcome at the Vale of Leven Golf Club: "We extend a warm welcome to visitors, including visiting Societies, all of whom can enjoy a challenging game on our well maintained course, set against a panoramic background of Ben Lomond and Loch Lomond." After your game why not relax in the Club's friendly Clubhouse where you can savour freshly cooked meals. The Clubhouse is also available to hire for private functions and corporate hospitality for which individually tailored catering packages can be arranged. WELWYN GARDEN CITY GOLF CLUB Welcomes Societies & New Members

If your Golf Society is planning its next golf day, Welwyn Garden City Golf Club ticks all the right boxes, offering not only a well-maintained course that is suitable for players of all levels, but also the latest in modern facilities to meet the needs of its 21st Century visitors. The Club has grown and gathered momentum since its inception in the early 1920’s, when golfers would play armed with a few irons, a niblick and a scythe - an instrument used to clear the grass from around the ball to enable it to be seen. Players were also only allowed a maximum of 12 golf balls per player; with the game being deemed to have been finished when all 12 had been lost.

Thankfully today members and visitors alike can take advantage of the Club’s challenging 18-hole course; with its 19th hole to be found in its Clubhouse, as David Spring - the Club’s General Manager, outlined in a recent interview: “Thanks to a continual commitment to maintain the course to extremely high standards and improve its features, Welwyn Garden City Golf Club has been able to achieve an enviable reputation for consistently providing members and guests with a course to rival any in the area, whilst offering excellent dining and drinking facilities within a warm, friendly environment.” Set in undulating parkland, the course may at first sight seem a relatively easy test of golf, but with narrow fairways and small greens there are many scorecards that tell a different story. The course is a par 70 for men and, at 5,527 yards, par 72 for ladies, providing a fair and enjoyable test for any level of golfer; with our superb drainage making it a truly year-round course, providing a good venue for winter visitors and societies. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to learn that many societies, including some from as far away as the South Coast and Scotland, return year after year to enjoy the course and hospitality. Welwyn Garden City is particularly proud of the improvements made to the facilities, which, since the original clubhouse opened its doors in 1928, have undergone many refurbishments and changes including recent refurbishments to the locker rooms, pro shop and bar areas. David added: “On a warm summer day, there can be few things better than sitting on our newly refurbished patio overlooking the course, with a cool drink in your hand. It provides a wonderful panorama of the course, and a place to watch people playing the 17th and 18th”

The refurbishment to the pro shop facility includes the introduction of a swing studio, providing an area where the Club Professional, Stuart Mason, can teach during dark evenings and wet weather. This is a facility not many clubs in the area are lucky enough to have and provides County Coach Stuart with the perfect place to teach and fit clubs. Stuart also puts together packages for societies ranging from prizes to scoring services and lessons.

The fact that Welwyn Garden City Golf Club is ‘home’ to prestigious players such as Sir Nick Faldo and Walker Cup player Tom Lewis, who won the 2011 Portugal Masters in only his third professional tournament, serves as a seal of approval to prospective members and visiting Societies. The last word goes to David: “We are happy to host a variety of days ranging from small societies to large corporate or charity days and are in the vicinity of three reasonably priced hotels and a vast number of local bed and breakfast establishments.” “You can play 18, 27 or 36 holes and our packages can be adapted to meet the smallest or largest of needs. We employ friendly staff to ensure your day runs as smoothly as possible and have excellent catering and bar facilities.” “Availability permitting, you can book any weekday, so don’t miss the opportunity to book your society on one of the best kept courses in Hertfordshire, as our 2013 Society package is booking up fast.”

As host to the Deer Park Masters, one of the most prestigious events on the Scottish PGA Tartan Tour calendar, and as a former qualifying venue for the Open Championship, Deer Park Golf Club has justly earned the reputation as one of the premier inland golf courses in West Lothian. Nevertheless, the course is just as exposed to weather as any club, and not immune to the challenges facing the industry. The fight against the elements culminated in a root and branch look at the types of rain conditions and the drainage to cope with it. John Muir, the Chairman of the Muir Group, as owners and operators of Deer Park, took a proactive construction approach to the modern rain downpours and categorised vis :Rain showers - can the course cope?- Yes Rain downpours - can the course cope?- Yes Severe biblical rain – days on end – can the course cope? - No

What followed was a hole by hole analysis of the ability of the golf course to cope with Noah’s Ark conditions. This led, in turn, to a comprehensive plan to remove the water from greens, pitching areas fairways and bunkers. The first phase of the project was to lay down main drains wherever required throughout the 18 holes. After these were installed, the pitching areas and fairways had connecting drains installed to remove the surface water underfoot. Finally, the entire course – greens, fairways and roughs were spiked and heavily sanded. John Muir noted, “All of the above required timing to get the job done and achieve a lasting solution without reducing the course to a mud bath. Yes, we lost members; yes, we had complaints; yes, we

spent far more than we intended to. We even compensated the faithful members by giving them cash back on the subscriptions to spend in the club on food and drink.” So, what’s happened? Firstly, the golf course is healing; secondly, the members are appreciative; thirdly, new membership has moved from a trickle to a flood. Inside the Club, lounges have been upgraded, locker rooms improved and heating, lighting and air handling all given energy reduction investment.

a swimming pool, steam and sauna facilities, multi gym and a spa. The finished effect has produced a root and branch game changing U-turn on the Club with bookings for weddings, golf, functions and new members all pouring into the venue in unprecedented numbers. John Muir also noted, “Nothing in a recession is easy - and against the elements even worse. But this has been a victory in commitment and confidence in the staff and the membership. 2013 promises to be the big turning point for golf and business at Deer Park.”

Unlike any other Golf Club, Deer Park has 16 lanes of 10-pin bowling,

owhere does the allure of history meet modern comfort more ele gantly than at Breadsall Priory, a Marriott Hotel and Country Club. Located in 300 acres of parkland in the heart of Derbyshire the club offers 36 holes - contrasting and challenging for players of all abilities. The courses stand in more than 300 acres of glorious Derbyshire parkland, just a stones throw away from Derby city center and within each reach of the M1 motorway. They offer exciting golf on 2 different styled courses with the added benefits of exceptional Marriott service. With breathtaking views, demanding holes and open, undulating fairways and small, well protected greens, the golf course stands among some of the best in the Derbyshire and the east midlands. It features two high-quality golf courses, The Priory and The Moorland, each with

its own challenges. Both courses are Par 70 and measure just over 6,000 yards. The Moorland Course The Moorland Course is considered some of the best golf in the region. Designed by Donald Steel, the Moorland Course opened in 1991, and features excellent views over the Derbyshire countryside. It offers a challenging layout of 6,028 yards and par 70, combining a fearsome rough with subtly contoured greens for a fair test of golf. The Priory Course Although the Priory Course at 6,120 yards is similar in length to the Moorland Course, it offers a much more challenging layout. The Priory Course at Breadsall Priory winds through steeply undulating parkland around the hotel and requires a high degree of accuracy through the treelined fairways. The very small greens add to the challenge of this course. The hotel also boasts an exceptional range

of hotel facilities, including 112 bedrooms, indoor heated swimming pool, gym and tennis courts as well as 2 restaurants and bars, conference facilities and a health & beauty salon for those wishing to pamper as well as play golf. Marriott has a long history of providing not only excellent facilities and great courses but superb hosting and great food. So if you are looking for a venue for a round of golf or a society event Breadsall Priory a Marriott Hotel and Country is the place for you

The Importance of Quality Golf Trophies Trophies, awards and medals are presented in nearly every modern day sport making them a commonplace but sought after item. Receiving a trophy or award represents success, as well as being a memento of private accomplishment. In some sports, but especially golf, the individual does not have to actually have won the competition overall but may have achieved something significant whilst competing, for example, a hole in one.

Golf trophies started with the ‘Champion’s Belt’ in the 1860s that was presented to the British Open winner until that was replaced in 1870 with the ‘Claret Jug’ that is still presented today. The current Masters prize is the ‘Green Jacket’ that is one of the most sought after sporting prizes, not far behind the Tour de France ‘Yellow Jersey’. These are just three examples of golfing prizes but they can come in all shapes, sizes and materials ranging from wood to crystal and gold with most of them being engraved.

Golf trophies have many different and bespoke designs; it is rare to see similar ones. They are designed to give a strong visual impact as well as to add a suitably prestigious note to the occasion. Anything that is a symbol of victory usually makes an impact on those not receiving the award, motivating them towards wanting to win it themselves as well as provoking a note of recognition and appreciation towards the victorious individual. There are many different awards across the wide range of sports played in today’s society but golf trophies are probably some of the most prestigious. The illusive hole in one is

almost always rewarded with a trophy and has become a highly coveted award to receive. Golf trophies add to the gratification of a sport that is seldom conquered and never truly mastered. Warwickshire-based, EFX Corporate Awards & Trophies provide a range of excellent trophies and awards, as well as a personalised engraving service. The company’s reputation for professionalism, quick turnaround times and high quality products was recognised in 2011 when EFX were awarded the Best Rural Family Business Award.
