The Art Barn Renaissance

Rejuvenating Your Hometown Creative Heart

Six decades ago, a Sedona Renaissance began.

There’s no better word for it. The Arts Center’s founders and visionary civic leaders set out to develop a mighty creative community, endless arts education opportunities, and diverse cultural events and experiences. They wanted to redefine our red rock town. And they did. As we begin our 60th Anniversary year, our artists, partners, staff, and board members have a 21st century Renaissance in mind—home grown and wildly creative. Over the past several years, we’ve been adding new programs, fostering arts outreach projects, building a national reputation, and inviting more people into the fold. We’ve shaken off the dust, rejuvenated our historic Art Barn, improved the Fine Art Gallery, and enhanced our Uptown campus grounds. With every exhibition, festival, workshop, and new annual member, Sedona Arts Center increases its capacity to do more. With each idea and partnership, our nonprofit organization works to boost the creative life of our town. We take great pride in advancing the legacy of high desert artists, performers, poets, and dreamers. Take a look at what we have coming up as 2018 approaches. Find a place and get creative with your hometown creative heart—and help us foster a new kind of Sedona Renaissance!

professional development

Our Business of Art series helps artists to bridge the gap between private work in the

world of their chosen practice and the public world of galleries, exhibitions and sales. Each of the programs aims to facilitate that crucial transition with experts in various aspects of the process. Start with an intensive 3-hour immersion with Visiting Artist Jeanne Bessette and follow up with skilled local experts in various areas of expertise. Most of the upcoming Business of the Arts sessions are free for Sedona Arts Center members, or $10 per session for non-members. Contact our office in the historic Art Barn to sign up and reserve your place: 928-282-3809.

The Value and Economic Value of Art Andrea Christelle, Monday, October 23, 6 to 7 pm

We can assign an economic value to just about anything, including art. These critique sessions provide a chance to see your own work from a new vantage point. Input and creative feedback is provided from a variety of professional artists in different mediums—in a friendly group setting at the Arts Center. Bring up to three samples of your work and gain new understanding and perspective on it.

Jeanne Bessette

Jeanne believes that there is an artist in everyone and imagination is the key, that people love to share their stories, and paintings are a way to do that without words. Although many techniques will be demonstrated, Jeanne relies heavily on the emotional impact of her work and shows artists how to tap into their own unique message. Her intuitive approach to painting and her ability to see the strengths artists bring to their own artmaking helps workshop participants strengthen their own personal voice.
