Christ ie Palmer

cpalmerart.com

An organic integration of landscape and abstraction, Christie Palmer’s acrylic paintings originate from a reverence of the beauty in nature. Enriched with enigmatic shapes, a synthesis of drama and serenity, and an intuitively adept use of color, her work reflects the “resonance between the mind and the natural world.” Palmer’s atypical method of employing acrylic on paper originated through independent advanced study in water media at the University of New Hampshire. Graduating artists were mandated to reject the “mundane” and to express what is “distinctly original.” Patiently layering a multitude of watercolor-like acrylic washes coupled with infinite blending provides a richness of color and glow in her works. Each painting is reflective of a genuinely personal and inspirational journey in its actual creation. Maintaining her studio in West Sedona since 2011, Palmer’s paintings have been awarded in juried shows in Chicago, Southern California, and Sedona, including multiple “Best of Show” awards. In private collections in the U.S. and abroad, her work is recognized by its clean lines, flawless technique and a unique peacefulness.

Studio Arts

Jan Sitt s Texture Color Feeling Jan Sitts created this richly colored painting with a variety of fibers, pastes and papers which is common to much of her work. This textural process is created intuitively exploring themes that relate to nature and earth. Painting the “raw”canvas with multi-layers of paint and patterns. She often embeds iridescent foil leaf and powdered paints. The layers of acrylics and other materials used are archival, giving an “organic” depth and luminosity so desired… The only limitations are the boundaries of your imagination.

Every painting, even the humble still life, has a story in it. It’s told by what subject we choose to paint, how we present that subject, and how we paint it. Finding what interests us in a subject and how we connect to it drives that story, and directs how the painting is made. You will walk the line between technique & intuition, using the still life as a way to explore paint and why we make art.

Mary Lois Brown

“Paint ing feeds my soul ” Mary Lois Brown grew up drawing and painting horses and remembers creating her own compositions using the left over paint from paint by number kits. She enjoyed the creative process so much that she took as many art related classes as she could while in school. When she moved to the Southwest a new world of light and color opened up for her as she lived and worked at the Grand Canyon for two decades and it slowly became a favorite subject matter for her work. As a mule guide she shared the canyon with many others from river to rim. Workshops at the Scottsdale Art Institute and at the Sedona Art Center with Scott Jennings, Kevin Macpherson and many other well-known instructors have led to sales, awards and representation in galleries. She is now living the artist’s dream thankful that she can paint right out her back door from her Sedona studio. Mary Lois Brown is shown adding finishing touches to her painting for the January 2019 VegFest poster.
