insider’s
T
a mer ica’s beach
Throughout this handy pocket guide you’ll find exciting activities, and some that are just relaxing, plus our picks for things to do that you might not have heard about. Stroll and play along 23 miles of the “World’s Most Famous Beach” where you can choose to drive on hard packed sand in designated areas or opt for vehicle free zones. And you don’t have to leave your best friend back home because there are designated areas where pets are welcome to splash in the Ocean (see page 27). When you are done with the beach, step off the beaten path to enjoy our many rivers and lakes. Looking for something a little more sedate? Lie back and take a leisurely boat ride where your guide will tell you all about the birds, plants and wildlife that make up the eco system. Our calendar is brimming with lots to do and our colorful, detailed maps will make it easy for you to locate all the attractions, shopping and dining choices. Look for the NEW symbol for insider’s tips on the latest additions.

getting the most out of your vacation
T
There are lots of things to do along our coast. Park the car and watch surfers hang ten in what’s considered to be among the top places in the world for the sport. Pack a picnic lunch and watch and listen as the waves crash against the surf. Frolic in the water, do a little surf fishing or build a sandcastle. After the sun and soothing rhythm of the surf have done their job, do you get an inner urge for some excitement, something new to do? Fish inshore or offshore, from a dock, in the surf or navigate the best fishing spots by boat. Golf on a variety of courses that represent all sorts of challenges. Rent a canoe, a kayak or learn to paddleboard. Get warm and fuzzy with nature at one of the many parks dotted throughout the area. Bring your binoculars and discover over 400 species of birds or watch as dolphins play in the surf. Here’s a ‘not to be missed’ NEW experience: Take a selfie with #88! Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Winning Chevy, which is part of the Daytona International Speedway Track Tour. It’s traditional to have

the winning car of the Daytona 500 reside at the track following a win at the annual Great American Race. Look for #88 at the end of the tour. Catch a film at Cinematique on Beach St. in Downtown Daytona Beach. Enjoy the fun at Daytona Lagoon year round with their dry activities, and check out their brand NEW one and two seater Go-Karts. Visit Marineland Dolphin Adventure to meet their newest playful dolphin addition, little Coquina, a NEW female dolphin born in May, 2014, and named in an online contest by their fans! And with NEW habitats, animals and a “Behind the Seas” tour, there’s so much to learn. Be sure to mention to businesses and friends that you saw some fun ideas in the SEE Daytona Beach Insider’s Guide. Contact us on our website www.SEE-DaytonaBeach.com or on Facebook and let us know if you have new ideas for us, after all there is so very much to see and do in the area!

Dogs on the Beach A day at the beach is a perfect way to spend quality time with your pet!
Both “Lighthouse Point Park” in Ponce Inlet and “Smyrna Dunes Park” in New Smyrna Beach are ‘pet-friendly.’ Be sure to bring doggie bags and water. While some parks provide bags to pick up after your pet, others do not. Be a good pet owner and don’t leave a mess for others. Know that most beaches require your pet to be on a leash at all times and make sure the section of beach you visit is designated, ‘pet-friendly.’ Failure to do so could result in stiff fines.
Editor’s Note: Smyrna Dunes Park & Lighthouse Point Park have a $5 per vehicle entry fee and are open sunrise to sunset.

DINING a world of dining choices
E
Everything tastes better when you are on vacation and the selection of dining happenings in the Daytona Beach Area will leave you satisfied and full of great memories. From the humble snack to more exotic dining, there’s something here to satisfy every craving. Our favorite starters are clams, oysters and jumbo shrimp fresh from Florida waters. Sample succulent alligator bites, delicious fried pickles or mouthwatering calamari, accompanied by a tangy lime sauce. Devour freshly caught grouper or a sumptuous filet mignon, cooked to your specifications. Add a cold beer or a glass of chilled white wine to celebrate being here! Don’t miss RiverGrille on the Tomoka’s expanded multi-level deck featuring NEW huts that extend 20’ high over the Tomoka River. Impressive! Also, a covered outdoor bar and NEW drink
