ACTIVITIES

getting the most out of your vacation

There are so many ways to have fun in Daytona Beach. For some, it’s the 27 miles of the best surfing on the Eastern Seaboard and for others it’s a full menu of family attractions, sports and historic landmarks. Visit the Museum of Arts & Sciences and enjoy their temporary exhibits featured throughout the campus. For a truly unique experience, stop by for a laser light state-of-the-art show featuring their Planetarium’s SkyLase Projector. For more captivating history, visit the 17th century Dunlawton Sugar Mill and the ballpark where Jackie Robinson played in the first integrated Major League spring training game in 1946. Daytona International Speedway offers daily track tours year-round. Learn about the history of auto racing, visit

Gatorade Victory Lane and get an up close look at the 2016 DAYTONA 500 champion car of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin. Want to see more? The All Access Tour takes you inside the motorsports stadium – the result of the $400 million redevelopment project. Not far inland you can skim over water in an awesome airboat, dive into a sparkling clear spring or dip your paddle in a river winding through a quiet preserve. Before you leave, try to fit in simple pleasures, visit our many state parks, or rent a scooter and drive on the beach. Beyond the beach are the lush fairways of our worldclass golf courses, one reason the area is rated one of the top golfing destinations in the world.

A Bottlenose Dolphin breathes through a hole on the top of its head. This hole is called a blowhole. It acts as a nose; however studies have proven that they can’t actually smell anything. The top of their head is the part of their body that reaches the surface first. This is helpful to the dolphin as it allows him to breathe a plentiful breath of air before descending. Even at amazing depths of over 1,200 feet, they control their blowhole and maintain it in a closed position. This is to protect them from breathing water into their lungs. This is a lot like snorkeling as water is forced out of the snorkel before it is inhaled during the next breath of air.

DINING

a world of dining choices

It’s a well-accepted fact that eating out can be the best part of your vacation. Our area’s eateries not only present relaxing venues appealing to anyone escaping the ordinary, they serve original local fare with pride. An everyday getaway is at RiverGrille on the Tomoka. Their menu, with a touch of Cajun spice, and their cozy and rustic dining room and deck is an enjoyable experience. Also, Three Toed Pete’s Watering they are introducing their Hole, a late night solution for fun. At the Inlet Harbor Restaurant & Marina in Ponce Inlet, enjoy their fabulous seafood with an unforgettable waterfront on their view. There is always something fresh and

menu, plus daily live music to dance your time away. Florida’s slow cooked barbecue brings out the ever popular Southern down-home taste buds and can be sampled at several area restaurants. One place is Hog Heaven. Try their Baby Back Basket, slow smoked ½ rack Baby Back Ribs with french fries, coleslaw and garlic bread. In the Daytona Beach area, you can start your day with breakfast while watching the sunrise at an oceanfront restaurant. End the day viewing a spectacular sunset while dining on the river. Tell your waitress you saw their ad in SEE Daytona Beach, Insider’s Guide and leave a nice tip! You are guaranteed not to go home hungry. Food! Glorious food!
