The actor feels it’s the best that there is…Do you think so too? Vote NOW! Arbaaz Khan, whose father Salim Khan had penned the script of Sholay, says it is the best film of Indian cinema. Directed by Ramesh Sippy, the action adventure drama, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Amjad Khan and Sanjeev Kumar, had released on August 15, 1975. Arbaaz congratulated the entire team for making such a wonderful film which people are still talking about after 40 years. ”Sholay is a yaadgar (memorable) film… It is a landmark film. It is the best film ever made by us… Best film of India in terms of shooting, script and performance. It will always be the best film of Indian cinema,” he said. Arbaaz first saw Sholay when he was eight years old. ”We had come from boarding school and my father had taken us to watch the film…I was eight years old. It was a great experience watching in Minerva because of the four-track sound. I enjoyed myself watching it,” he said. ”Sholay is one such film where the cast and crew benefited and it took them to another level. That is a great film,” he said.
Sholay is the best film ever made! “Arbaaz Khan” Sept 2015 Global Movie : 8
Arbaaz was talking at the trailer launch of Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. Also present at the event were comedian-turned-actor Kapil Sharma, actors Varun Sharma, Elli Avram, Manjari Fadnis, Sai Lokur, Simran Mundi along with director duo Abbas-Mustan and producers Ratan Jain and Ganesh Jain. Kapil Sharma feels Sholay is a milestone. ”It is this film that gave a reason for people to enter film industry. Such films should be released again and again so that the younger generation can see how rich is our Indian cinema,” Kapil said. “We talk about Hollywood, but when we go abroad we come to know that Bollywood is also that much popular. It is a proud thing and this is because of an epic film like Sholay,” he said.
The actress has recently finished shooting for her first Bengali film Nirbaak and wants to make a comeback in films as she feels its a great time to be part of Indian cinema. She is making her small screen debut as a judge on Comedy Superstar… Sushmita Sen, who is returning to TV as a judge for Comedy Superstar (she was last seen on Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena in 2008) has plans to make a comeback to Bollywood, too. She recently finished shooting for a Bengali film Nirbaak, which she says was a “wonderful way of breaking the inertia”. Here, the actress talks about films and her eventual return to the big screen. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who was once considered your rival, is making a comeback to movies… Why just Aishwarya? Even Kajol is coming back with a fabulous film. Earlier, Sridevi did an amazing job. Even Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla have returned to films. It is embarrassing to say it’s a comeback though because it’s an art they have polished; acting is something that one never forgets, just like driving and swimming. They had other priorities in their lives, which they concentrated on. Now that they are done with that, they have returned to their craft to enjoy themselves.
I want to initiate my acting before getting into production! “Sushmita Sen “
Any plans to return to films? I recently did my first Bengali film Nirbaak and it was a fun way to break the inertia and go back to doing something I used to do. It made me understand how much I missed it. It’s the best time for heroines as women-centric films are being made. Absolutely. It’s still a man’s world, though, as distribution rights are still done in a certain way in India. But yes, scripts with women in mind are being written. It’s a good thing that girls like Vidya Balan and Kangana Ranaut are making women-centric films come alive. It’s a great time to be a part of cinema. More power to women. Even biopics are in vogue. A few years ago, you’d
launched Rani Laxmibai, which you later stalled. Planning to revisit it now? I know biopics are doing well, but I wanted to make Rani Laxmibai at a particular budget, which for a women-centric film was difficult to fund then. However, I lived with the character for two-and-a-half years; it has taken up a lot of time and patience. I don’t think the time is right now. However, it won’t go to waste. I’ve bought the rights from Jayashree Mishra and will make it sometime later. Right now, I want to initiate my acting before getting into production. Among the newbies, who do you find promising? Alia Bhatt blew my mind with Highway. That girl hasn’t ceased to amaze me. She is incredible. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 9
Rajinikanth’s Kabali first look to be out on September 17?
The film is expected to go on floors next month
After romancing Bollywood beauties like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha, superstar Rajinikanth is all set to star along with Radhika Apte in his upcoming Pa Ranjith directorial titled Kabali. While the actor is said to be playing an ageing gangster in the film, the inside goss from the recently completed Kabali photo shoot is that Rajini will be sporting a salt and pepper look along with grey beard in the film. A little birdie also tells us that Kabali first look will be out this Ganesh Chaturthi on September 17. Also, the film is expected to go on floors on the same day at Malaysia. Interestingly, Vijay-Sridevi starrer Puli is also slated to release on September 17. It looks like both Rajini and Vijay want to cash in on the festive mood of Ganesh Chaturthi. While a lot of fan made images of Rajini’s look in Kabali is doing rounds on internet, it seems like we have to wait for September 17 for the official first look to be released. Deepika Padukone prefers being a secretary than a producer! Deepika Padukone on why she won’t turn producer any time soon… Being a producer is the obvious next step for an actor. While for male actors, it is just a formula to make their projects commercially viable; for female actors it is a necessity. In most Bollywood films, leading ladies have little to do. Few studios want to produce films with the leading lady as a protagonist. So if an actress wants to play ‘hero’, chances are, she will have to make the film herself. Like Anushka Sharma did with NH10. Priyanka Chopra, too, also announced her banner. Not Deepika Padukone. Not foolish For some actresses, turning producer is the only way to stay in the business. The acting offers stop coming, so in a bid to stay in the limelight, they turn to production and start announcing projects featuring them. Most of these films never release. Then there is a Deepika Padukone, who is at the top of her game today being wooed by every actor and filmmaker. She’d be foolish to get into the hassle of producing films. And she is not foolish. The actress is not planning to shift her focus from acting, anytime soon. Although she admits, “I’d love to do production work, but not be a producer. I mean if I have a team that will do it for me, then fine because I don’t think I have the bandwidth or capacity to take on the role of a producer.” Me know no math A producer’s job is complex. It includes everything from reading scripts to hiring screenwriters to managing budgets, crunching numbers and even scouting for talent. But it has its perks. Deepikacan actually make films happen that might otherwise never get made, simply by adding her name to it. She smiles, “I just want to put it out there and let people know that I have absolutely no sense of math or money. So if someone has a great script and they need to add my name to sort of greenlight a project, I am happy to do that. But I have no business sense basically.” Need a secretary? She further adds, “I am someone who loves being systematic and organised. So if anyone from the industry is looking for a line producer, I’d be happy to do that. Also, I like to put things in place and in order. I keep telling Dinu (Dinesh Vijan) that. I am like ‘You need a secretary/assistant, please tell me. So taking printouts, filing, arranging .. I love doing all of that, I love it.” Sept 2015 Global Movie : 12
Kareena Kapoor Beauty Facts For the “No Make-Up” Look
The monsoon is the perfect time to experiment with makeup. Ditch the heavy eye shadows and the bright lip colours and opt for the rain-kissed look instead Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor recently confession that she looks her best sans make-up. Turns out the famous vegetarian might have more than her peaches-and-cream complexion and stress-free life working in her favour. Here are three tips and tricks for those looking to recreate that fresh-faced look: For the face: Foundation and concealer are crucial when opting for the “no make-up” look. Wash your face with a cleanser and pat dry. Smooth a little concealer under the eyes and over blemishes. Most women make the mistake of opting for foundation several shades lighter than their natural skin tone, given our obsession with fair skin. The trick, according to make-up experts, is to actually get one shade darker than your skin tone. Apply a few dabs of foundation on the forehead, cheeks and the chin. Gently spread the
foundation, using fingertips and pat with a sponge for a smooth finish. For the eyes: Ditch the black eyeliner, instead make mascara your friend. Make sure you invest in one that’s waterproof to ensure you don’t have those ugly streaks weeping down the side of your face when it rains. For the lips: Lighter skins can opt for nude lipstick shades with pink tints in them. Lip shades with red tints or browns are better suited to darker skins. Start by lining the lips with a nude liner and then fill in with colour. Add a dash of clear gloss over lips for a radiant look. Final touch: Lightly dust on some illuminator over cheekbones using a blush brush, and voila, you’re good to go!

Sidharth Malhotra interview: ‘I am really happy to be part of Bollywood’ Bollywood star Sidharth Malhotra Former model Sidharth Malhotra first came to fame as a protégé of Karan Johar, making his debut in the high school romance Student of the Year. He was awarded the Filmfare Best Male Debut for his portrayal and his obvious good looks had him typecast from the off. But Malhotra defied his detractors and went on to reveal his comic timing in Hasee Toh Phasee and was lauded for his dramatic performance in Ek Villain. Four films old and he now takes on an intense action role in the official Bollywood remake of the 2011 Tom Hardy film Warrior alongside Akshay Kumar. In interview Malhotra explains why working with Akshay Kumar has been one of the best experiences of his career and he considers his life as an actor in the Indian film industry so far. Brothers is an official remake of Warrior. Why do you think this movie works in a Bollywood setting? “Well it has so much for a Bollywood audience. It is a great emotional story of how this family breaks apart and what impact and repercussions that has on the children. And when they grow up how they resolve it. The two brothers are extremely traumatised due to the path that they had and they take up a profession as Mixed Martial Arts Fighters and it’s about how they eventually resolve that. It has the Hindi film emotion in it, but the packaging is very Western, so it works for both audiences.” Did you watch the original film and how did you go about ensuring the portrayal of your character was not influSept 2015 Global Movie :14
enced by the original film? “Well I have definitely seen the original before the film happened and before it came to me. Once I heard the script my character was totally different from Tom Hardy’s character. My character is the only one that’s not similar to the original, so there was no point referring to the original. I just went by my director Karan Malhotra’s convictions who was very clear, very sorted and very convinced about whatever scenes were there, so there was no doubt about his portrayal.” Sidharth Malhotra stars with Akshay Kumar in Brothers You star with Akshay Kumar as his brother. Can you describe the relationship you both developed during the shoot? “I think working with Akshay sir was one of my most memorable experiences that I’ve had so far. He’s obviously very disciplined and very good at action as we’ve all seen. But I think what I’ve learned off camera and from the space that he’s in, is that even being such a superstar you can make a conscious decision to be in a good mood, a happy mood, to have fun on set. That’s why he does a lot of pranks, activities and sports. So everything I learn about him off camera will help take me a long way. But I have also learnt to be conscious about time management and got tips about food habits. We’re both Punjabis and we like our food. And exercise tips of course. So we really did bond over the film and even beyond this movie. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Akshay Kumar.” What is Monty Fernandez like? “As opposed to the original character, he is on his own path, but he cant get out of it. In my mind he might be a big beefy boy, but he is emotional and still looking for attention. He feels he was abandoned by his father because he went to jail and his brother didn’t really look after him. So he was this lost child and extremely happy when his father came back from serving his sentence but realised his father is still not giving him that love, and that drives him to join this martial arts group. He just wants to make his place in society and how he resolves his angst with his brother.” The film features lots of fight sequences. What went into training in Mixed Martial Arts for the role? “When I signed this film I realised I had to be convincing in the ring. There’s a skill that is required. And I decided to Sept 2015 Global Movie : 15
Was it a deliberate attempt to shed your earlier model image in order to be taken seriously as an actor? “Yes. I think so that at the back of my mind that there was this kind of response and you can’t close yourself to this kind of feedback as long as its constructive. So I think I’ve tried to show many kinds of shades of what I am in terms of the films that I’ve chosen, in terms of scripts that I’ve chosen. So for example, Ek Villain I wouldn’t have been the most obvious choice for it, but I was really wishing for it because I felt I needed it and that was my one good chance to break that mould and that image. In the future I would like to be able to adapt to both types of genres, be it a romantic comedy or a hard dramatic film. And that’s what you want, where an actor is not typecast in one genre and then there are more films available to me.” Who were your role models in film? “I used to be a big fan of Mr Amitabh Bachchan. I’ve seen a lot of Shah rukh khan films and I got to work with him as an assistant director. Especially since I wasn’t from the industry I used to see all the popular films. Even Akshay sir’s Main Khiladi Tu Anari or the Khiladi series or Hera Pheri and today I’m working with him. I’ve had so gain some weight to look more empowering and convincing many fan boy moments and today I just feel really happy in the role. I took about four months off after Ek Villain and to be in this position to be part of this industry and to now all I did was train, eat and sleep. Priyanka Chopra is shooting for her international show Quantico, in America right now and she can’t wait for all her fans to see her new avatar as the FBI trainee Alex Parrish At the recent Television Critics Association (TCA) panel discussion, Priyanka Chopra charmed her way into the hearts of western media. Priyanka shared her experience as a debutante at the the TCA tour. Read on for excerpts… What was the wackiest question you were asked at TCA? One of the magazines asked me about my secret talents. I think my answer kinda shocked them… Did you know that I can put my leg completely behind my head! Hahaha! Were you asked any stereotypical questions? One of the questions that came up frequently was why I’d want to pursue this project in the U.S.A. as a newcomer when I have a successful career back home. Did you find the western media to be any different from the Indian media? I didn’t see any big differences. I think for me mainly it was in the context of the questions that I was being asked, given that this is pretty much my TV debut here. If given an opportunity to play a special role in an already popular ABC show, which one would you like to feature in? Scandal and Modern Family!
Priyanka Chopra: I feel like a newcomer all over again!
Your show’s posters are plastered all over America! How does that feel? It’s great to see that Quantico is getting such amazing support from ABC. Since this is my maiden TV show here, I feel like a newcomer all over again. It reminded me of the days when I first started working in Hindi
cinema. You also shot some action scenes. Is the experience different from the way action sequences are shot in India? Yes and no. In some ways it was different, like doing stunts on actual streets in NYC, running across rooftops and the like, and in others it was similar to what I have done in films like Don and Mary Kom.
You were quoted saying that you want to manage Bollywood and international television at the same time. Are you open to doing Hollywood films as well? I would like to pursue every opportunity that comes my way. If it’s an interesting, challenging project, I would be open to it. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 17
During the making of Brothers, I went into a shell because there was no time for socializing or even interacting with the family! “Sidharth Malhotra Sept 2015 Global Movie : 18
Sidharth is all set to dazzle us with his role of a street fighter in his upcoming film Brothers. He talks about his equation with Akshay Kumar on set, his relationship with his real brother and more… Sidharth Malhotra is not just another pretty boy. The actor, who shared the spotlight with Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in his debut film, has proved he’s more than man candy. He’s made it and it’s not by luck or by chance. His choice of films are interesting, and studied. He’s confident enough to be part of a female-centric film like Hasee Toh Phasee and share space with a co-actor — Riteish Deshmukh in Ek Villain. He may not have done as many films as Alia and Varun, but his journey is different. He chooses to be different and that’s his USP. He may have drawn flak for signing up a two-hero film with an established actor like Akshay Kumar, but the decision has paid off. The buzz around the film that releases this week, is phenomenal. Here he talks about Brothers and more. Read on… One a scale of one to 10, how exhausting was shooting for Brothers? Twelve! There was much stress… The stress to match up with Akshay Sir, his action persona, and doing marital arts — which is his home ground — with him. He knows kicking and punching since years and I have no such background. The stress of looking convincing, the stress of looking like a person who has a certain presence of a guy who can physically hurt him. In that sense, both Karan (Malhotra, director) and I were aware of that. So they made me gain 10 kilos and made Akshay lose 10 kilos. And from there on, I felt happy that the physical transformation would make the character believable. I took four months off and did nothing, but just trained for this film. That must’ve meant losing out on a lot of work… Yes, but I think that’s paying off now. There’s no way an actor can keep gaining weight for a film, and doing other things at the same time. I used to train five-six hours a day with international trainers, then with my gym trainer, then for the recovery ice bath… So those four months were a great transformation phase where I ate, lived and breathed my character. Just like these fighters do and that’s what makes it a little convincing. He (Akshay) already having a background made it easier for him. For me, starting from scratch was difficult, but I think people will see the end product. There was no insecurity when you did nothing for those
four months and other actors were signing films, doing shows, shooting for endorsements, etc? That, of course, but I didn’t feel it at that time. When I told Reshma (Shetty, his manager), about taking a break to train she said, ‘Oh, when do you want to start and finish?’ I said this will go on till four months. Her reaction was, “What!” I said “It’s a big film, what’s the point of giving it a half-hearted attempt because of our schedule. I said I have got a great opportunity and I will be stupid to miss it.” Now, maybe, in retrospect people say, ‘You missed out on other activities because you didn’t do anything.’ I didn’t do ads, I didn’t do any events, very few, because the look was also such I was not fitting into any clothes, I was getting bigger and broader everyday. And I am already big. Now I think, it all pays off this Friday. So then it’s quality over quantity, I am happy. During the shoot of the film, Akshay stopped going out completely because it was so physically exhausting. Did that happen with you as well? Oh yes. There were certain days where I was required to shoot slightly longer than him also. Akshay sir was there from seven to two and lunch time because he didn’t want to take any break, so we used to shoot nonstop. I used to take a lunch break and then we used to shoot till six. I had Sept 2015 Global Movie : 19
a longer shift. Obviously he has earned that space. There was a difference between our time on the set, which is fair enough. So, during the making of Brothers, I went into more of a shell because there was no time for socialising or even interacting with the family. There were days when I would come home and pass out even without eating. My cook was worried for me. He used to say, “khana nahi kha rahe aur so jaate hain.” I would just drink a shake and just crash. That phase for the latter half of last year was a space where I totally went into a shell. I anyway don’t get out much, and people were like, ‘Where the f**k is he? Don’t really know kya kar raha hai.’ When they would see me somewhere they would say ‘aare tum ne daddi kab ugali’. I met Salman (Khan) and Hrithik (Roshan) at Arpita’s wedding and it took a while for them to recognise me. I was wearing a suit, I looked even older with the beard wearing one big achkan. Hrithik looked at me and said ”shit what happened to you?” That reaction excited me, so yes that phase of going into a shell I feel was required. It pays off when you live in that zone for 24 hours. Method acting is big in Hollywood… Yes, they take their one film and do that and the impact is seen. See luck is different but if you put in hard work, it always gets you good returns. See with Akshay sir also in his career, he has done so much and it has given him back. I believe in the same, and it is paying off so far. I think that should be a trend for at least younger actors. Financially, if we are strong why we can’t do one film in a year? And give the role everything that it demands. What sort of relationship do you share with your older brother? He is six years older than me and we have obviously grown up in the same house, in the same room so we had lot of fights. And it’s tougher to beat somebody up when you are ten and he is 16. He was stronger, so the easiest thing I could do, was scratch him. That’s the quickest Sept 2015 Global Movie : 20
because I couldn’t hurt him so I used to scratch him hard during fights. And he used to have marks and my mom thought his girlfriend. (Grins) So, we have had a regular upbringing. I think in the late teens brothers don’t want to see each other, So I was in my own zone, I was 13 and he was 19. When I was 16, he was 22, and he was like I don’t want to hang out with you. I think we are more connected now. I think siblings bond more when they are men, rather than as boys. Today, also I feel much more settled and older. I am thirty today and he is thirty six and he has a family. He has a child. So, now we bond in a different way we have an emotional bond much more than we did before. What were most of the fights with your brother over? When I was young, random things.. about wearing his T shirt, tearing his T shirt, not leaving the room when he wants to talk on the phone to his girl friend, and me trying to get the phone from him to talk to my girlfriend, then waking up in the night where one wanted to study and the other wanted to sleep. I was very bad in studies and he would complain to mom. So, we have done the most weirdest and bizarre things you know when you live with somebody. I was so pissed off with him once he had beaten me up when we were fighting and obviously there was little blood all over my face. I went to the loo to wash my face and I was so pissed. The first thing I saw was his tooth brush and I picked up the tooth brush, put it inside the commode and put it back in its place. That’s so cruel! (Laughs) I told him after a week. Put yourself in my place, you are so angry, you are the weaker one and your sibling is six years older so then what do you do? You can’t physically hurt him… So the only thing I was doing for my satisfaction was being a sadist.
In Brothers, you and Akshay stop talking to each other. Off-screen how are you likely to react to an issue with your brother? I used to shut down. Actually, I think most men do that. We tend to keep things in our hearts about what upset us because I think genetically or whatever it is, we are just programmed that way. It’s very similar to this film also. Two men don’t really talk about their issue till the very end, till the climax you see ke problem kya hai. You realise what is hurting them and why is he so angry and why is the other one so pissed off with him. So I think the same way, but learning is growing up, as is communicating. Initially I would really keep it inside. I would be giving subtle hints and insults and fight and snap but now I think we both are grown up and he is on the same page. Who is more mature of the two? Actually it’s a big toss up because even though he is married, we have done enough stupidity and now we are pretty cool. Now he parties with me and we hang out. But I think he is more mature. Your dad’s reaction when you said you wanted to be an actor? My father reacted in the sense that ‘are you sure about it?’ He was a bit confused. I told him when I was 19 or 20. He was not really aware of it. Then he had no idea, kaise karenge, kya hoga. He couldn’t get the connection between me saying I wanted to be an actor and it actually happening. I was modelling by then. But modelling doesn’t mean any surety. So I think he didn’t believe me. It was disbelief ke bakwaas kar raha hai, bol raha hai bachaa, he is a child, let him be happy and there was no such conviction or believing the fact that I would make it. From there I think he has come a long way to be really proud now. He is retired now and become old, he was posing in front of a Brothers poster in a mall and he sent me a picture. I am flying him down on the 12th and he will see the film with me. I have not seen the film yet. I feel responsible that roles have reversed between me and my dad, so I don’t look back at the time when my dad didn’t believe it. I am enjoying the time when my dad is really happy and proud.
that easy.’ He has seen much more of my filmy side. How was it shooting the Mary song with Kareena Kapoor Kareena and I sadly have only one song and in that song also, all I had to do is not look into her. It was the toughest thing for me because Karan Malhotra said that I had to be in character —brooding, aggressive fighter and someone who doesn’t really pay attention to a girl. So then I was questioning, ‘why was I in this place, it’s like “main kyon aaya hai idhar.’ In fact, I wanted to look at her. So there were many retakes when she was right there doing her charming dancing seductive moves and that time the most natural thing was look at the girl but I was told not to look at her. Looking the other way was the toughest thing I had to do. We have taken many retakes because I kept looking at her. So I had to go through against my natural instinct and ignore Kareena Kapoor’s sexy avatar. She has done a fab job. She loves what she does, it shows she eats and breathes this and she is just so happy on set. I think her team, her way of working, her whole vibe is amazing. I think somebody should make a film on her off camera.
Did your brother know about your aspirations? Ya of course he was aware. He used to look at me and comb my hair in the mirror ke ‘Kya hero ban raha hai.” I never used to study so he used to keep teasing. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar: Sidharth Malhotra is my li’l Brother, on and off screen.
Sept 2015 Global Movie : 22
It’s D-Day for Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra’s action drama movie Brothers. Khiladi Kumar has already screened the film for his family and he expects audiences to appreciate the hard work that has gone into making this film… Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna missed a big Bollywood wedding last year. I remember asking Twinkle the next morning why they weren’t there. She said that Akshay had come home from the shooting of Brothers and was so exhausted that he simply crashed. The man, always raring to go, had no energy to don a suit and face people of his fraternity. That is the kind of training that Khiladi Kumar did for Brothers. The film releases today and he was at the castand-crew screening with his wife and son Aarav. Here he talks about the journey of the film, how it changed him and why he will continue to push the envelope and himself every day of his life… You’ve done action films before. But Brothers has been the most physically exhausting one of all. Why is that? Not just full of energy, it has the longest climax I’ve ever had to shoot for in my life. Brothers has definitely been the toughest, most technical, fighting action film of my career. This wasn’t about me turning up on a daily basis and giving my best. My best wasn’t good enough. Until I learnt how to perform skills like a proper MMA fighter, we didn’t go home, we didn’t pack up, there was no tomorrow until today was perfected. The entire stunt team made sure of that, there were no room for flaws, they got the best out of us, and my director got the best out of them… You were always fit. But you got even fitter for Brothers.
What was your physical training like? For a year, my life was pretty much train-and-pain! If I wasn’t in pain, I hadn’t tried hard enough. So, back to the gym I went till the pain came. Don’t feel sorry for me, though. Loved every minute of it, even the worst days. I’d still rather be in the gym dedicating myself to this, than to be training everyday dedicating my body to only looking good in a mirror. This way, I got to do what I love and it produced results that shocked me our amazing American stunt team, who were all pretty much half my age (smiles) Moral of this story: Hard work really does get appreciated. By the right people anyway. You have continued with your fitness regime to this day, much after the film is over. Why? I cope with it because I love it. Now, I do Capoeira ginga for warm-up, thanks to Tenzin who is the phenomenal Chinese fighter in the film, who is my second opponent in the main arena. Grappling floor techniques to keep my body strong and agile, thanks to Eric, who was my professional MMA fight trainer for the film. Muay Thai Boxing thanks to the Hammer who kicks me so hard and fast in my last fight, that when I came out the ring alive I just wanted relive my past and kick like I did at 21. All this and then I do my functional training, that gives me the strength and grounding to perform all this whenever it is asked of me. I’m ready for a round in the ring right now if you want. (laughs) No thanks! Brothers has a younger hero too: Sidharth Malhotra. How was it sharing screen space with him? Sept 2015 Global Movie : 23
It was like fighting a mirror image of myself, though Sid had to grow twice his size for the film, I got the lucky card and had to shrink and tone. Sid had to multiply his muscles, gain fighting knowledge and attempt his first real action film with me. He had a tough task ahead of him last year, but how much this boy has tried, how much he trained and given his physical best to this film! We are both so grateful for each other’s efforts, because if it wasn’t for what we put in, we wouldn’t be sitting here so proud of what you’re all going to get out of us when you see it. The film’s highlight is expected to be the crucial MMA fight in the climax. After a long time, two major heroes will be seen exchanging punches on screen, barechested. Are you ready for comparisons? Hah!… People have compared me my whole life, as bare-chested as we both are, dying to give a performance of a lifetime. I genuinely don’t care who looks better, or who moves better, I don’t even care if I win or lose in front of everyone. All I care about is that people appreciate how hard we tried, how much we’ve given to offer something so new to this industry, and how well we’ve done to survive such a deadly climax almost completely unharmed. I’m proud of us. Sid’s my li’l Brother, on and off screen, no comparison or scrutiny is ever going to change that. The year gone by has been a defining one for you, in terms of your career choices mainly. What’s the kind of change you have seen in yourself? Well I’m definitely fitter and faster, so again, when you feel your best, your able to give your best, and that only proves one thing, people will then see you at your best. It’s been a great year, professionally and personally. As happy as I am, I’m still not going to sit here content with life, the minute one takes a day for granted, a whole year’s hard work can disappear in a flash, and one has to start all over again. I’m on a roll, but I need to keep rolling, so it’s head down, eyes down and let the good times roll… This has also been your first film with Dharma Productions. How would you evaluate the working experience vis-àvis your other producers? Dharma is a dream company to work with, from their professionalism, to their work ethics, time management and budgeting. There is a reason they are one of the best in the entire industry. Karan Johar is a great producer, we felt his presence and love for our film without getting in the way of it’s creation. He made sure it got created right and then Sept 2015 Global Movie : 24
stepped back and let the big boys roll and there’s some seriously BIG BOYZ in this film (laughs). This is one of the very few two-hero films we’ve seen in recent times. Why do you feel today’s generation of actors is shying away from doing two-hero projects? Same reason it’s always been. Men like to feel they made it on their own! It’s in our DNA, Men think one brain is better than two. Why have two heroes when you can have one hero who does it all… To be honest I find that a shame, I always have, some of my favourite films of all time have been the ones I shared screen space with. That’s why I admire Sid for stepping up and doing Brothers. The trade believes that Brothers might just end up being your career-best grosser at the box-office. What are your expectations from it? There are enough expectations going around as it is, I really don’t need to add to it. We all sat down last night after seeing the movie together for the first time, and we all agreed at the end of the day, no matter what the outcome, we know we’ve made a wonderful film, and after you’ve been in the industry for as long as I have, numbers are just untouched figures. They come and go like the wind, but respect and pride lasts a life time, if you are lucky enough to receive that, then what more as film makers can we ask for. I’ve already made the closest people in my life more proud than I could ever have imagined. My Friday happened last night when my wife and son watched the film. Let me put it this way, I’m more than the man of the house today (grins) I’m my family’s own treasured hero, and that is what means the absolute world to me…

Jacqueline Fernandez celebrates her birthday today. We recently met the glamorous actress for a candid chat where she spoke about playing a mother on screen for the first time, her love for Salman Khan and how she deals with box office failure… Were you apprehensive about playing a mother on screen at such a young age ? No, actually not. It’s really funny because before they started casting , everyone knew Karan (Johar) was making Brothers, so we all were excited about the film, but no one knew about who would play the role of the mother, Akshay’s wife. You don’t even think you will be offered that role, but then I got a call from Karan one day and he told me, “Listen I want to meet you and talk to you about Brothers.” I said ok and I thought he might be asking me for an Item number. But, when I met him, he said “No, it’s actually the role of Akshay’s wife, you will be the mother of the child.”
Jacqueline Fernandez: My initial reaction to playing a mother in Brothers was NO! Sept 2015 Global Movie : 26
I was shocked and I didn’t believe that I was offered this role in Brothers. My initial reaction to it was a no. But, then after discussing it with them and reflecting on it, I really thought that I needed to start changing some things around me and stop playing safe all the time. I was actually hiding behind this from a long time. I always played this glamorous girl, a character that is safe and one that I can handle it, but this was a role where I wasn’t sure if I would be able to handle it. It’s the role of a mother to a daughter who is really sick and they(the parents) cannot afford her treatment. She as a mother is afraid of losing her daughter and at the same time she is scared of losing her husband because he has gone back into fighting, in order to pay the medical bills. So it is quite a dilemma for the character and I was really impressed by the role. We actresses generally do glamorous roles and we get asked all the time don’t you feel bad that you are not getting some serious roles and I say “Yeah, we do feel bad, we are waiting for such roles and people are ac-
tually just stereotyping us.” But, when we finally get the opportunity to do something like that, we reject it. So this time I decided to do this one. I had a fantastic time and it was really different from what I have done till now. It is also empowering when you are a part of such cinema. How did the box office failure of Roy affect you ? Any actor feels bad if his/her film doesn’t do well. No one rejoices when a film doesn’t do well, but actually there is nothing you can do about it at that time. I never get nervous before release because I know that I have done what I could have done and now the fate of the film won’t make a difference to my performance, I can just hope for the best. The film doing well is just the icing on the cake, what is more important is that you have been part of a project, a work of art. Whether it is appreciated or not is not in your hands, it’s like a piece of art, some people will like it and some people won’t like it. That’s how I see it. I don’t get sad or nervous. In fact I really like watching the film and learn from it. I can judge myself what worked, what didn’t and that way you grow. How has the success of Kick with Salman Khan helped you in your career ? After Kick, I have shot four movies in a year and this year I am shooting three movies, so seven films back to back after Kick. I am even shocked about what just happened. This is the busiest I have ever been. I owe a lot to Salman Khan and I owe a lot to Sajid Nadiadwala. For them it was just about casting someone, but I don’t even know if they have realised how this has changed my life. The main challenge actually came after Kick. When you are in a Salman Khan movie you are pretty safe, you are guaranteed success. The hard part was after Kick as I really had to stand up and prove that even if there’s no Salman, I could do the right movies and I could still perform well. Then only will good offers come your way. Now it becomes quite challenging as it is the test of what I can do.

Jackie Shroff on fatherhood, his two screen sons and their offscreen personas Jackie Shroff doesn’t believe in holding back or being diplomatic. Be it his love for his on-screen sons Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra in Brothers, or his equation with Anil Kapoor or not meddling in son Tiger’s career, the actor was at his candid best when he spoke to us…
Tiger Shroff should follow Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, says daddy Jackie Shroff
Who’s a better screen son: Akshay or Sid? You can’t differentiate between sons. One can never compare one’s kids. I have two kids — Tiger and Krishna — how can I say who’s better? Dono ke bina kaam nahi hota hai, boss. Who’s stronger between your on-screen sons? I would want nobody to win or lose. It’s not about youth. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 28
According to me, I am the strongest. Purana ghee is better. It’s not about age, it’s about what you are consuming. Aaj kal ka hawa, paani, khaana…sab ka game bajela hai. Back then, people used to have ghee, now they say don’t have it! Between Akshay and Sid if you were to take on some-
one, who would that be? None of them. They are bloody tough. Sid has youth, Akki’s strength is regimental. Hum log soda bottle guys, these guys make physical contact.
Among your on-screen children, who is naughtier? Akshay, without a doubt. I was in the middle of an emotional scene, hugging them and fully into it, but when I turned away, all my shirt buttons were unbuttoned. That’s
Akki… You have known him for many years… He used to work for this photographer Jayesh Seth. He had once brought my photos. He remembers this. We have worked in Aan and some other films, but we didn’t have that great an equation, but then he got married to my best friend’s daughter (Dimple’s daughter Twinkle). And gradually, we also did Bhagam Bhag and another film together. In London, while shooting for Bhagam Bhag, I realised he’s very mischievous. When I would sit and some girls would come and talk to me, he would come and slyly touch my feet and run way. He would do that to make sure people knew I was senior and they are the younger ones. (Laughs) You guys obviously had a great time. We did. Akshay’s tiffin would be healthy stuff, Sid has his six-pack meals and I would go with my dhokla, patra and some shrikhand. I was the one who would destroy their diets. Not that it made a difference, they looked good. On the sets there was a lot of bonding among the Punjabis — Akshay, Sidharth and director Karan Malhotra, did you feel left out? No, how can I? They were always looking for my shrikhand. It was always a warm welcome. They would always say ‘give us dhokla, fafda’. Gujarati father and Punjabi sons are a great combination. Anil recently played a dad in Dil Dhadakne Do. Who do you think is a better dad: Anil or you? I am a better dad — personally, in reality and otherwise. His wife has said so. There was a time when my kids were young, I used to come down from Delhi to meet Tiger (Shroff). I remember once I was shooting with Anil in Chennai, I would come back to meet Tiger, he wouldn’t. His wife would tell him, ‘Why can’t you be like Jackie?’ So, tell me who is better? I didn’t say it I am just saying what his wife said. Tiger has been seen with Disha Patani, are they dating? I hope so. Nobody tells me who they are dating. I don’t talk to them about my girls. Do you advise Tiger on the kind of films he should do? No. I can’t give myself advice. You have worked with SRK and AK… Both have come from outside the industry and made it big. Both of them used to be quiet, but have great business sense. They have started from the bottom rung and reached the pinnacle. Shah Rukh talks well, Akshay is little easy on talk. They are both superb. These are guys my son Tiger should follow. He should make his career and life like them.

Since the news of Pakistani fundamentalist Hafiz Muhammad Saeed demanding a ban on the upcoming Kabir Khan film Phantom in Pakistan got out, the makers and cast of the film decided to interact with the media about the ban… Kabir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala hosted a press conference earlier today as they decided to address the issue of JuD’s chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, seeking a ban on their film Phantom in Pakistan. The film deals with fictionalised and real life events from the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that Hafiz Saeed was believed to be the mastermind of. When asked about his initial reaction to the ban at the press discussion, director Kabir Khan said, “We should actually avoid this topic, but the media was very interested to talk about it and so we are here.”
Saif Ali Khan on the Phantom ban: It is funny and pathetic that a terrorist like Hafiz Muhammad Saeed can file a petition in court! Sept 2015 Global Movie : 30
Kabir went on to say that he was surprised when he heard about Saeed wanting a ban, “I am surprised and amused that a wanted terrorist has gone and filed a petition. He is the one who is spreading hate agenda and he is opposing the film, without even knowing what the film is fully about.” Saif on the other hand said that he was anticipating this ban. He said, “I thought from first that the film would be banned. I am not surprised because I had thought that they would have just assumed things without seeing the film fully.” The film’s leading man went on to explain a little about Phantom and said, “All the people involved in the making are Indian Muslims, so it is a patriotic film. The film has a real case (26/11), it is half fiction and half
on the real incidents. Nobody is against Pakistan or their religion, but this is a different subject and Kabir has treated it in a nice way. I feel that the people should see the film before passing a judgement.” Kabir also said that the possible ban on Phantom in Pakistan wouldn’t really affect the film but he had different concerns. He said, “The ban doesn’t affect the film as such, however the freedom to express and show your film is lost when you ban a film. Some elements in both the countries hold us back and prevent people to have a warm, friendly relationships.” Saif felt that people tend to over-react about films without knowing the content in its entirety. He said, ”People want a semi-educational films with some geopolitical facts. Even if you try to portray Pakistan in the real light, they will ban it. The people would want to see it, I have family members there, others from the industry have family members there too and they didn’t feel anything wrong with Phantom. I feel it’s really funny and pathetic that a terrorist like Hafiz Saeed can file a petition in court and he is roaming freely in the country. I guess that’s an ideal country!(jokes)” Kabir Khan added to Saif’s comments saying that he doesn’t want politicians from both countries to get involved in this matter as he wants people to people contact. When asked about what course of action he would take if the ban is imposed Kabir replied, “No idea about course of action because we haven’t got any letter. The proceedings are going on in the Pakistani courts and we are not involved in that. If we get a letter to reply, then we will see the content and then reply.”

Katrina Kaif doesn’t like the flip-side of being a super star and that is speculations about her personal life. But the actress won’t take matter that offend her to court… Katrina Kaif is a superstar when it comes to films but she has always been fiercely guarded about her personal life. Her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor is every tabloid and publications’ favourite topic. As both RK and Kat are not too public about their relationship, media tends to make quite a few speculations about them. In a recent interview, when asked why she has never taken any legal action against rumours that defame her Katrina said, “Main 10, 11, 12 matlab… I would have to go to the court for the rest of my life and be stuck there. You can’t do that… This is nothing. I have no desire also to go to court if you ask me. There has been times in life when I wanted to take people to court for articles and let me tell your own lawyers would advise you not to. You’ll waste months and months of your time. And rather than doing that just be responsible about your writing. Ask somebody no! Aajkal har kisi ke paas PR ya manager hai na uske, ask them! Sept 2015 Global Movie : 32
Here’s why Katrina Kaif won’t sue publications that malign her!
People don’t ask yaar they just want to write. See honestly it doesn’t matter. Am I upset about it? No. And if I was you know that I would tell you, I would say fifteen things about it… but this is what you call irrelevant, this is genuinely irrelevant. Sometimes people write things which are hurtful or harmful and that’s when I say something. There has been very rarely, but there has been in my case these one or two journalists who I thought were just downright wrong. There is no excuse for that kind of behaviour. You cannot talk about me like that and I will not talk to you. You’ve chosen to take a stand because you feel so passionately about it now this will be my stand but that has rarely happened. I have realised that I am very forgiving as a person. Like if you come and stab me in the back with a knife and you are still holding the knife but you come around and in front of my face and say “sorry yaar I didn’t mean it” I’ll be like it’s okay don’t worry. It’s a Cancerian trait. But you have to say sorry right you can’t stab and go away. Stab, take some time, wash your hands come back and say “sorry ya”, I’ll be fine.”
Katrina Kaif: Tomorrow, if Salman Khan and I announce a film, I am being presumptuous enough to say that there will again be interests in it! Katrina rarely talks about her relationship with ex-lover Salman Khan to the media but she decided to open up a little about not just that but also her equation with Deepika and Ranbir… Katrina Kaif’s Phantom releases this week and the actress is on a promotional spree. This is her first release of 2015 and she is paired with Saif Ali Khan for the first time. Her next film is with beau Ranbir Kapoor. Here, the actress talks about successsful pairs on screen, ex-boyfriend Salman Khan, and why she hopes Deepika’s film does great business in the box-office (Hint: Ranbir is the leading man of the film). Being voyeuristic “In Ek Tha Tiger, there was so much hype and hullabaloo about my equation with Salman. I think we are a little voyeuristic, by nature. We imagine something and we think, ‘Oh, Salman and Katrina were ex-friends and ex-lovers. Now they are working together in Ek Tha Tiger.’ We do talk like that. Tomorrow, if Salman and I announce a film, I am being presumptuous enough to say that there will again be… (pauses) interests in it. For YJHD, the same happened with Ranbir and Deepika and there was huge hype and interests, again.” Like me, like my movie Kat feels it’s not just the chemistry between the lead stars that can drive a film to success. “That’s not the basis of which films actually run. People come in, they want to see a nice film. Salim (Khan) uncle once told me, “If the film is appreciated and people have liked the film, it means everyone’s performances in the film was appreciated.” It cannot be that you liked a film of mine and I was terrible,” she points out. Flops are painful! Having spoken her heart out on Ranbir-Deepika’s chemistry, she wishes the Tamasha team success. “Do I hope Tamasha will be a good film? I hope and pray that it is a great film. Because Ranbir deserves everything that he wants and he desires. As an actor, it might be painful when your films don’t work. But I am sure he’ll be amazing in Tamasha like he always is.” Sept 2015 Global Movie : 33
The All is Well actor is back after Happy New Year to entertain us with All is Well. In an interview he opens up about his upcoming film, his equation with his colleagues, his relationship with his father and more…
Abhishek Bachchan on not doing the AIB roast: I get roasted every Friday on the basis of my film’s release, why do I need somebody else to do it for me? Sept 2015 Global Movie : 34
Abhishek Bachchan looks like a neta (a spiffy one at that). He walks in wearing a white kurta pyjamas, khadi coat and reading quotes. Pleasantries exchanged, the first thing he tells me, “Make the questions interesting!” As I hand him my phone to record our chat, he asks mischievously, “Oh good! Can I keep it?” That’s AB for you. Always making situation light by cracking jokes. Here, he talks about his next release All Is Well, Aishwarya’s next release and of his on-screen (Rishi Kapoor) and off-screen Pa (Amitabh Bachchan). Read on…
Let’s talk about All Is Well.
All Is Well is the story between a father (Rishi Kapoor) and son (me) who don’t get along. My character fights with his father because he has certain aspirations for his son, who wants to do what he wants to and leaves home to try and make it on his own. In the film, I haven’t spoken to my father in 10 years, but circumstances are such I have to come back. He discovers his mother has Alzheimer’s and now the father and son have to try and get along when actually they don’t, because they have to pay off this loan and look after his mother. What’s nice is that the film is dealing with issues which are actually very important, the message is something which I believe in and the USP of the film is, Umesh’s style of narrative. If you see his last film, he says something very important but he dresses it in a garb of humour and I think that’s such a wonderful way to make a point. Please continue…
It doesn’t feel preachy at all, but is entertaining and exciting to listen to. This is dealing with family dynamics. When I heard the film for the first time, I almost questioned myself — Am I a good son? I think I am. I do whatever I can for my family. But then the question was — can I be a better child? In real life, has it ever happened that your father hasn’t approved of something that you did?
Nothing major. Petty discrepancies are always going to be there and that’s healthy for a relationship. My father has always encouraged my sister and me and everybody else in the family to discuss, air their views and opinions and make our own independent opinions. Both our parents brought me up to say that you must think for yourself, have your own opinion and always have the gumption to stand up for your own opinion. My father never interfered in my career choices in life. He’s always told me that it’s your life and career, you have to do what you want and you have to learn on your own. Tell me about the time you told him you wanted to be an actor.
I always wanted to be an actor but the first time I officially told him was on the April 17 or 18 of April, 1994. It’s a big moment and that’s why I still remember it. I told my mom first. She gave me the strength to tell my dad. He was very happy. I was immensely nervous. When you are young, there is fear of approval and rejection, but he was very happy Sept 2015 Global Movie : 35
and supportive. In fact, both my parents have always been very supportive and never dictated what Shweta and I should do. They have always told us, do what your heart tells you. And if your heart isn’t in your job, there’s no point doing it. They never said go out and be an actor or take over the family business. My parents never put those pressures on my sister or me. They never told us that they wanted us to become a doctor, lawyer etc. If I had to answer that, I would say, if anything dad is happy that I am an actor. Any dos and don’ts given by your dad when you entered the film industry?
No. Dad always had the faith in me that I would do the right thing because that’s how we were brought up. Mom brought us up with the emphasis on being a correct and good human being. So I think my parents had that faith in me that I would do the right thing. Their parenting value was to give us the independence to make our own decisions and to know what is right and what is wrong. They are always there to guide us.
In the film, whom are you close to?
In All Is Well, I am closer to my mother (Supriya Pathak). And in real life?
It is not easy to describe. She is Maa… You know what I am saying. I am very different where relationships with my parents are concerned. My dad is more of a friend than a father, and my bond with my mother is that which a mother and son share. AIW is about a dysfunctional family whereas yours is one the most, stable and loving families.
Can I be cocky? I’d like to believe that I am a good actor (laughs)! I’m kidding. You can’t bring your personal life and baggage onto a film set. Rather, you shouldn’t. Also part of the quest is to do things that you might not have done or had experienced before. Like Nandu in Happy New Year, or Bol Bachchan and Yuva. I like to do work which might not have any semblance to my personal life. Tell us about your off screen relationship with Rishi Kapoor.
It’s the complete opposite of what we share in the film. That’s what makes it so much fun. Dad and Chintu uncle have worked together in films and so he’s like family. There’s always a discussion about a scene and every actor has his own approach to it. There’s always a give and take between co-stars and that’s Chintu uncle’s biggest ability — of being a co-star. He doesn’t play the role of ‘I am the senior’ on the sets. Chintu uncle allows you the freedom to behave as an equal with him and that’s wonderful. It’s very normal on sets to give suggestions Sept 2015 Global Movie : 36
and he’s very open to them as well. That’s very refreshing because regardless of what your personal relationship, he’s still Mr Rishi Kapoor, a living legend and then to go on set and discover that he treats his scenes as just another hungry actor is amazing! So you are good friends?
My personal relationship with him is one of great camaraderie. It’s wonderful — at times even when we were not shooting he would call me over for dinner and I would go. He keeps sending me dirty jokes, so it’s great fun! He came for my first kabaddi match this year. Chintu uncle was very keen to come as he said he had last played kabaddi in the song Pakdo-Pakdo from Naseeb. I asked him if he was serious and he said yes. I said it would be an honour if he was there. He came and had a whale of a time. Chintu uncle is a source of huge entertainment in my life as he’s very funny. It’s so refreshing to be so honest also and have conviction in your views. And Ranbir?
Ranbir is younger to me and more like a baby brother. We play football together and we meet every week. The cool part is that my equation with Ranbir is pretty much the same as it is with Chintu uncle. I always treat them equally — it’s never like ‘Oh, that’s Ranbir’s dad’. Chintu uncle too treats me like one of his friends. That’s fantastic! So when the shoot ended, it must have been an emotional parting for you both?
No! Earlier, the last day of shoot would have been a highly emotional parting as we knew we wouldn’t bump into each other again. But in today’s day and age, the next day you are busy promoting the film, so actually you are spending more time with the person. Until the film is not released, that moment doesn’t happen anymore. Recently Akshay Kumar said that he censors his wife Twinkle on her column. Do you do the same for your sister Shweta?
No. I do get to read it before it’s published, on a Saturday, though as I do know the author, you see (smiles). Whatever subject my sister has, like once she wrote on how emojis are taking over everybody’s life, so I respond to her in the subject of the column. When she wrote Emojinal, my response to the email was about 20 emojis! I think she’s very talented. Her English is so good as she’s also an English Literature student. Your father wasn’t invited by Deepika Padukone for the Piku party. Did that upset you?
I have nothing to say on that. I am too busy doing my own work to bother about other people’s work. Would you be awkward if you bumped into her at a party?
If I bump into her at an event, I would like to believe that I am a well-mannered and well-brought up person and I won’t snub her or behave coldly. What has that got to with anything? Sept 2015 Global Movie : 37
Earlier you had a very intense image but now you are doing more and more comedy films like Hera Pheri 3 and House Full 3. Have you discovered a latent comic talent in you?
I think I just went through a phase where I went through a lot of serious work. I would like to believe that I have done some comedy throughout my career, some of them unintentionally (grins), but they turned out to be comic (roars with laughter)! I did Dostana, which was a romcom and after that I didn’t do anything in the comic zone. I came up with a spate of pretty intense films like Game, Dum Maro Dum, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, so when Bol Bachchan happened it was something completely different from what I had done before. I enjoy comedy and I want to do more of it. Maybe it’s just a state of mind, I don’t know… It’s very difficult to understand or explain at times, but I think actors choose films based on what frame of mind they are in. Now I am going through this happy, fun and frolic phase right now. After I complete these films I would have my fill of that and be done with comedy maybe. I will introspect and maybe do something which is a bit more intense and edgy. I am gearing towards that. Ever thought of doing an intense love story?
Yes, I would love to do one! Doing an absolutely intense, tragic love story would be great fun. I do believe in eternal love, but who says just because your life ends, love has to end, too…? (smiles) Are you acting in any AB Corp production after Paa?
No. Right now I am not producing anything that we are working on. I haven’t found a script that I would like to do. All the projects in the company right now is under the scripting stage, so I don’t think we will be producing something for some time. Have you ever thought of directing a film?
No. I don’t know anything about direction. It’s a different craft altogether and something you will have to educate yourself in, before doing that. Maybe the performance part, I will get but the technical aspect of direction, I don’t know. Maybe down the line, there will be a day when I will say, hey I want to make a film, but then I must learn the art of direction. Do you write?
I write down concepts but I have never written down entire stories. I am not a writer, but I do have ideas. Yes I do write them down somewhere — in a notebook for jotting Sept 2015 Global Movie : 38
down my thoughts, I just make notes. Every actor does that, make notes of the films or ideas they want to act in. It’s all part of the creation process. Maybe I should now get down to putting those ideas and do something. Before Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor were asked to come on the AIB Roast, you had been approached and turned it down.
Yes. The AIB guys had approached me first. But I get roasted every Friday on the basis of my film’s release. Why do I need somebody else to do it for me? I think everybody has an opinion, it’s a democratic nation, and everybody has the right to express it. If you want to be a subject to that, power to you man, well done. If you don’t, then I think you should respect that. I work and live in a profession in which I am up for public speculation every second of the day, so I get my fair share of reality check. You bonded with Shahid Kapoor last week on the sets of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
I am very fond of Shahid. I met him last week on the sets of Jhalak Dikhhla for the first time after he got married. He was very sweet and had invited Aishwarya and me to his reception, but I was in Australia, so when I met him, I congratulated him. I wish him and his bride (Mira Rajput) all the best. God bless them. You always have a warm relationship with fellow actors. No sense of competition and insecurity?
I have never felt insecure about anything. I understand why people would behave like that; I personally find it a bit shallow, but it’s not my place to comment on it. I am not like that. I enjoy bonding with other actors. This is my family, right? How terribly time-consuming would it be, if I had to continuously think who I want to talk to and who I don’t. Surely, it’s more beneficial to go out there, spread love and those energies in your work. Also, most of my colleagues today are people I have grown up with, so our relationships never depended on whether we were actors or not. Our relationships were forged much before, so it never comes in the way.
might expect Salman to do more films like BB than a Dabangg. But the actor claims that although BB has changed his outlook towards life, his ‘choices will never change’. Prod him a little and he clarifies, “I have been there for 27 years and I’ve done almost 50-60 films. Every six-seven years, I have done something like this. So Bajrangi Bhaijaan isn’t new to me. Suddenly, people are like, ‘Oh, Salman did something different’. But they forget that I did a Tere Naam, a Kyon Ki much before. I did a film called Baghban, at the time I was doing some hardcore action films. But that actor was likeable and should be loved. You should play such characters. I have always made those shifts and will continue doing the same.”
Salman khan says-Bajrangi Bhaijaan has changed my outlook towards life not my choice of films. The actor explains why he’d never stop doing action entertainers like Kickand Dabangg Bajrangi Bhaijaan crossed the `300 crore mark and has been touted as Salman Khan’s best performance till date. And the film has had an everlasting impact on the actor. Admits Salman Khan, “This film has changed my outlook towards life. The way I used to see or lead my life before the film is way different from how I perceive it now. I guess I have become a lot calmer with this film.” Making those shifts Also with the huge commercial and critical success of BB, one
Variations, please! He adds that he would definitely want to take up these characters but also do something like a Dabangg and a Sultan. “There needs to be variation. Because if I don’t do that, people will again say that Salman is doing the same. I did five action films and they said that. I did a Bajrangi and they stopped. If I do five back-to-back films in the same space as Bajrangi, audiences will again say the same thing,” he continues. “The bigger the hits, the faster you get bored of watching the same type of films. I thought Hum Saath-Saath Hain was a much better film than Hum Aapke Hai.. Koun?, but the latter already ran for over four years and then when you watched Hum Saath Saath Hain, you felt, ‘Arre yeh toh dekhi picture hai’,” he explained. ‘Don’t be scared’ Says director Kabir Khan, “For the longest time, people thought that Salman could only do aDabangg or a Bodyguard. I don’t mean to say they are mindless, but as an actor, Salman has much more potential than just doing action entertainers. Bajrangi has proved that.” And now, Kabir feels the actor will be inundated with such roles. “Previously, Salman was known only for a certain kind of films. Filmmakers were scared of offering him anything beyond an action entertainer. Now that Bajrangi Bhaijaan has been loved so much, I believe directors will find it more easy and comfortable to approach Salman with an author-backed role in content-driven cinema,” says Kabir. ‘I prefer acting with established actors because they are just more popular’Jacqueline Farnandez. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 40
The Kick-actress suggests that established actors give the movie a wider out reach…
Jacqueline Fernandez has been on a roll, signing various films ever since Kick released. Though her last film Roy tanked at the box office, many praised this Sri Lankan beauty for her performance. Before the release of her next film, Brothers, she talks to BollywoodLife about her family, her link-ups and her experience with co-stars Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and John Abraham.
You have done films like Kick and Housefull 2. After that you took up such a role in a film like Brothers. Tell us, what are the aspects you consider before signing a film?
Co-stars are an important factor. I prefer acting with established actors because they are just more popular. You want your movie to have a wider reach and you want your movie to make money, so it’s really important to choose your co-star well. But, more than a co-star, for me it’s the director who matters. Then I look at the producers, the script, the character and so on. It’s mainly in that order, but if any one of them is off track then you have to consider a lot of other things.
Did you ever think you would be a Bollywood actress and how proud are your parents of your achievement?
They are really proud. See, we were this simple Sri Lankan family in Bahrain. The population over there was only 6 lakhs, which is even less than the population of Mumbai. So to even think about being an actress, in my scenario, was just crazy. People thought I had got mad when I confessed that I wanted to act. I couldn’t go back to Sri Lanka because there is no film industry as such there, Bahrain didn’t even have a theatre industry. Plus, I didn’t have any contacts in Hollywood nor did I have a Visa, so it seemed that I wouldn’t be able to achieve my dream. But when you want to do something, you always find a way and so I did. I never thought I would work in Bollywood, I always saw myself going to the west. However, I am here today and the coolest thing is that I am doing a great job here and that has opened up many doors for me to work outside of India as well. My dream is getting realised.
How did your mother react seeing you play a mother on the big screen? Oh she cried! I told her to watch this song called Sapna Jahan and when she saw it she messaged me back Sept 2015 Global Movie : 41
saying “Oh my god! I have cried so much. It’s so sweet and you are playing a mom, oh my goodness.” She has a tendency to cry when I am crying on-screen. I don’t know how she will react when she watches the film. She watched Bangistan now in Bahrain, luckily they didn’t ban it there (laughs) and she will watch Brothers this week. The film is about two brothers, so amongst the two brothers in the film, Akshay and Sidharth, who do you think is the hottest? It is difficult to choose one amongst them. I have always found Akshay Kumar extremely good looking, there is something about him. Sidharth is extremely beautiful too, he is really good looking. I don’t know actually, It was a difficult shoot for me (laughs). Amongst them who troubled you the most? Akshay has been a real influence on Sidharth. Sid jumps up when Akshay says “let’s do this.” Yesterday only I saw them at their comic best. When I was giving an interview, they were busy unbuttoning the shirt of the camera man and making him naked. Sid was then joining me in and then going out, so a few more days of promotions and we will have a mini Akshay in Sid. They have a very good bonding.
Amongst all your films till now, which is the performance that you didn’t like?
I guess my first film, Aladin. I was new and I didn’t know anything, not even proper Hindi. So, for me, that may be the most embarrassing performance of mine till date. Sujoy (Ghosh) used to call and ask me sometimes if I learnt to act after the film and I used to say, “Yes, I have learned to act now.” I didn’t know anything back then, but I learnt a lot. Being a leading actress you are linked with quite a few people. From the IIFA fling with Arjun Kapoor to Sujoy Ghosh and Sajid Khan, you have been linked with a lot of people. Tell us how do you deal with these things and how much does it bother you? It actually doesn’t bother me because if you guys are seeing each other, then it will come out. Everything comes out in the end. If you guys are not seeing each other and there are rumours, then that’s okay too because if it isn’t true then eventually people will get to know about it. I realised that with rumours and gossip, you just have to be patient because the truth always comes out. I believe that if you’ve done it, then be upfront about it and take it head on. If you haven’t done it and if you are being accused of Sept 2015 Global Movie : 42
it, then you have nothing to worry about as the truth will come out soon. You just have to be patient.
You came back after shooting for Dishoom a few days back. Tell us about the schedule and your experience with John Abraham and Varun Dhawan.
It was the most fun and craziest schedule I have ever been on. We were shooting a lot of action sequences and it was a great experience. We were shooting in a place that was so isolated that all we had was a hotel and all we had in the hotel was a gym. So, all the time we used to work out or go shoot. So mostly we used to hangout in the gym and discuss about workouts and protein shakes. It was really fun. John was always full of stories and humour, he also kept giving us tips on fitness and eating habits. But, be careful around Varun and keep your phones safe. He takes peoples phone and hijacks them. He posted some random crap from my phone and I really couldn’t believe he did that. He posted pictures of himself on my Instagram page as if I am in love with him (laughs), but I guess he is in love with himself. But, it’s really cool to work with him. We are very similar to one another, in terms of humour and I would also drag him for shopping with me. Varun also would do some shopping. We both would entertain one another and it was cool to have that kind of energy on that set.
I mean if I have a team that
will do it for me, then fine because I don’t think I have the bandwidth or capacity to take on the role of a producer.” Me know no math A producer’s job is complex. I love doing all of that, I love it.”

I don’t have faith in Pakistan, generally! Saif Ali Khan Saif Ali Khan’s upcoming film Phantom has faced a ban in Pakistan. But this isn’t the first time for the actor. Previously, too, his Agent Vinod was caught in a similar situation and was banned there eventually. But what surprises Saif is that the country has accepted a petition filed by Hafeez Saeed, a terrorist with a $50 million bounty on his head. That’s what Saif told us after Saeed filed a petition seeking a ban on the film in Pakistan. Now, Saif opens up about the ban, how it might affect the film and explains how much is at stake for him as an actor. Over to Saif. You had said you had faith in the Pakistan Censor Board. Does the Phantom ban surprise you? I don’t have faith in Pakistan, generally. Neither do I understand what their thought processes are. I have no problems with Pakistan and I won’t make a film that’s against the country. But now they have banned the film. We have always Sept 2015 Global Movie : 44
shared a very complicated relationship. If you tell uncomfortable truths, films gets banned. We keep banning each other’s films. Do you think it will affect the film in any way? Well, I mean, we might have made a little bit more money. I remember Race made some money,so there is a market there. The irony is that everybody is going to watch it anyway on pirated DVDs. But it has happened with many of your other films… If you try making a film which portrays a certain element of truth, something that makes Pakistan a little bit uncomfortable, they will ban it. They did that with many of my films, so I have faced it already. But that doesn’t necessarily dictate what kind of movies we should make. If that did, we would end up making only films like Race. Pakistan bans a film because of a petition filed by a terrorist. Doesn’t that sound weird? They are not admitting that he is a terrorist. He is not admitting he is a terrorist. So, I mean, I actually believe in an individual’s rights, but if a country is backing them up, then it’s great. I am told he is responsible for 26/11. What the proof is, I don’t know for sure. I don’t think any of us know for sure. I am told by everybody that the US has put a 50 million-dollar bounty on his head and he’s a wanted terrorist. The latest terrorist caught in India said that Hafeez Saeed sent him. I believe he is India’s enemy number one. I believe he says and does dreadful things in India. As far as I’m concerned, the villain of the film is the guy who organised the 26/11 attacks. That guy’s name can be whatever you want. It can be Mr X. To me it’s not about defaming the real Hafeez Saeed. It’s just saying that somebody masterminded this and in our film, like the book, the character is called Haris Saeed. I feel he’s entitled to his opinions even though he is our enemy. Do you think extremist opinions exist among Indians too, especially when they talk about Muslims and Pakistan? I am sure, there must be areas. I think the world has sections of people who are extremists. There must be people who say Pakistan is the villain or someone who says some other religion is bad. But I think the majority of the population is peace-loving, be it in India or Pakistan. The enormous success of Bajrangi Bhaijaan shows that most people would like a Utopian situation. The film has been delayed a bit. Do you think such delays generate negative publicity, which ends up affecting boxoffice collections, like it did in the case of Bombay Velvet? That could happen, but I don’t think that has happened with Phantom. I think the release date is perfect. We have the Rakhi weekend. And it’s releasing after Bajrangi Bhaijaan. All these are positives for the film. Generally, a delay is definitely not a good idea. (Image Courtesy: Copyright 2014 Nigel Horsley) Sept 2015 Global Movie : 45

Lose the baby fat like Alia Bhatt Though she took Bollywood by storm with her first film, Student of the Year, getting that first break was not as easy as it looked for Alia Bhatt. Even after clearing the audition for the role, she was told point blank by Karan Johar that the only way he would even consider her for the role would be if she lost the weight. This feedback from one of the most sought after directors in the Indian film industry was a bit of a shock for her. But instead of being the damsel in distress, she decided to suck it up, shed her transient self and reveal her true identity. Within a span of three months she went from being a chubby teenager to a worthy leading lady of Dharma Productions. However, her journey of weight loss was not a walk in the park (pun intended); it included a lot of sweat and tears and maybe even blood. Even after getting her desired body shape, she keeps a strict watch on her diet and exercise routine. Here’s a look at what she does to maintain her curves:
Workout Regime
The good news for all those who want to follow Alia Bhatt’s workout routine is that she’s not a gym freak. She alternates between gym days and offbeat fitness activities to break the monotony. But when she does hit the gym her workout is Sept 2015 Global Movie : 48
quite intensive. This is what it looks like: • • • •
She starts off with running on the treadmill as a warm up This is followed by 3 sets of 15-20 reps of dumbbell raises, push-ups, lateral pull down, bicep curls, crunches, lunges, squats, back extensions and triceps push down She also does cardio with weight training to tone her muscles. She ends by cooling down with another run on the tread mill.
The only healthy way to drop excess weight is to combine a nutritious diet with a lot of exercise. This is why Alia Bhatt wasn’t just given various fitness activities by her trainer; she was also put on a low-carb, high-protein diet with a lot of fibre. Some key aspects of this diet are: • High-fibre foods provide a welcome change from the bland and boring boiled food she otherwise has to eat. • Thus, it allows her a healthy snacking option that keeps her going. She mixes it up with fruits, salads, yoghurt, oats, etc. • To maintain her svelte figure, she has had to give up all her favourite food; but not forever. She has a cheat dayreserved for herself when she can have some of her favourite treats like noodles and fried aloo (potato) without any guilt.
Versatility is the key Alia Bhatt’s fitness secret is quite simple: keep it fun and keep it versatile. She includes a lot of different fitness activities in her routine, apart from all the heavy duty gymming: • Like every other top industry actress she swears by yoga and starts of her day with a few cycles of Surya Na maskar, followed by stretching yoga postures. • For two days a week she also practices Ashtanga yoga, a unique regime that contrib utes to her strength building. • She also includes beach running, kickboxing, weights, functional and circuit training, swim ming and altitude training in her weekly work outs. • This Bollywood starlet, true to her genes, also loves dancing. For her, it’s an enjoyable and healthy way to stay fit. She is quite a versatile dancer, trained in both ballet and Kathak.

12 Ways to
Look Naturally Beautiful Tip 1 : Natural Skin Cleanser Pulverize a fresh tomato and mix it with two tablespoons of milk. Apply the mixture on the face and leave it on for about ten minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water. Besides being nature’s own exfoliating agent, this blend is also a deep skin cleanser which helps remove oiliness and brings a fresh and vibrant glow on your face. Tip : Juicy Treatment Pineapple juice, apple juice and lemon juice are all great remedies when applied to the skin for preventing wrinkles. Make a mixture of a tablespoon each of the freshly extracted juice of all three; apply on the face and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. The mild bleaching and astringent properties in these juices will keep your face glowing. Tip 3 Egg on the face : If you have oily skin, apply the white of one egg on the face. If you have dry skin take only the egg yolk, whip it up and apply. Keep the mixture on the face for around 15 minutes and then rinse. Both egg white and yolk narrow the pores of the skin thus preventing wrinkling. And if wrinkles are already there, they shrink and minimise them. Tip 4 The pink glow Here’s a secret not many ‘beauty experts’ will tell you. Put a high stool at the edge of your bed (it should be higher than the bed) and place your legs on top of the stool so that they are elevated from the body. Hold this position for some minutes, as long as your body can hold it. This helps drain fluids and rush the blood to the upper half of the body giving your neck and face an instant pink glow to last the evening. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 50
Tip 5 Beauty fruits This is a very popular treatment at most leading spas. Mash a tablespoon of fresh papaya and add to it the pulp of a tablespoon of green grapes. Squeeze a lemon and mix to make a smooth paste. Apply on the face and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. This has a tightening effect when it dries out and can be easily washed off. Rinse thoroughly
for a radiant look. Tip 6 Creamy complexion If you need an instant flush on your face, and you do not want to rush to a beauty parlour. Take some fresh cream (malai) and massage your face with an upward circular movement. Besides softening the skin it will make it moist and banish dryness. A massage stimulates facial blood circulation as well as removes dead cells, giving it a creamy complexion
ditioner and once you have rinsed and shampooed you will notice the big difference. Your hair will not just look shiny and silken but will bristle with life and complement the glow on your skin. Tip 9 Banishing blackheads Blackheads can be the bane of any skin and they are best eliminated. The most natural way to banish blackheads is to make a paste of one tablespoon of curd and one teaspoon of crushed black pepper. Apply the paste and leave it on for 15 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly for removal of blackheads. Tip 10 Perky eyes Eyes are as much a part of beauty as the face and hair. Soothe tired eyes by gently applying cucumber slices on closed eyelids. Keep the cucumber in the freezer for an hour then cut two thick slices and put them one on each eyelid for about half an hour. This will make your eyes perk up instantly. Tip 11 Exercise, exercise, exercise! Nothing in the world can give you a better skin than regular workouts. The medical reason for this is simple. When you do aerobics, you work up a sweat which helps clear up pores and clean the skin of blackheads and acne. Exercising also improves the blood circulation and provides cells with nutrients so vital for that healthy flush.
Repeat six times on each side alternately. Tip 7 Eat right No amount of natural beauty aids will help if you don’t follow a healthy diet plan. Medical research has proved that there are certain foods that can impact the colour of your skin. A healthy diet rich in whole foods, fruits and vegetables will provide the skin with most of the antioxidants, vitamins, essential fatty acids and minerals it needs to be radiant. Tip 8 Hair conditioner For silken hair, rub in a paste of banana, cucumber, tomato and curd an hour before bath. This is a natural con-
Tip 12 Sleep tight There is a direct connection between sound sleep and a glowing skin. A restful sleep of seven to eight hours is important as it greatly relaxes face muscles. Moreover, skin cells tend to regenerate twice as fast when you are sleeping. For best results, it is imperative to have a regular sleep cycle.

Set a Bedtime
Go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even on weekends, holidays and days off. You set an alarm to get up every morning, but punctuality for going to bed is just as important. While you don’t have to set a nightly alarm, pick an hour for shutting down every night and stick to it—on weekends too. Your body needs routine.
Take a Bath
Taking a hot bath before bed can help induce sleep. This is because your body temperature has a strong influence on how fast you fall asleep. A night’s sleep is normally proceeded by a slight drop in body temperature and scientists have established that this drop in temperature tells your body to go to sleep. Exaggerate that effect with a toasty bath or shower then lie down and let your body heat get low.
Black Out
Even the smallest amount of light can disturb slumber. That means TVs, computers, and even hallway lights should be switched to the off position until you’ve landed safely on the other side of morning. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 55
Eat Better & Balance What you eat can greatly affect how you sleep, even during the early half of the day. Eat breakfast first thing in the morning to sleep better at night. After eating well throughout the day, avoid eating spicy or junk foods at night, and instead choose something that will help you drift off. Heavy eating or drinking before bed increases your chances of indigestion or frequent trips to the bathroom. A light dinner about two hours before bedtime can help you sleep more soundly.
Take a Deep Breath Many outside factors can contribute to overall sleep problems, including stress, certain
illnesses, or short-term post-traumatic stress. Have there been any recent events or changes that have been troubling or otherwise preoccupying you? This issue may be following you subconsciously and interfering with your sleep.
Sleeping Position What position do you sleep in? A new study found that sleeping positions affect personality and sleep as wel, by determining how we feel when we wake up. You may not realize it over the course of the night, but your sleeping position could not be great for your body—or the quality of shuteye you get. Find out which sleeping style is best for you, and make a conscious effort to fix it when you go to bed, and you’ll wake up feeling more refreshed in the morning. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 56
No Smoking, Drinking and Caffeine A night of debauchery every now and then is fine but don’t make a habit of a glass of wine and a smoke before bed. Alcohol and nicotine are stimulants that can not only keep you wide-eyed, but also interrupt a peaceful night’s sleep. It’s fine that you can’t get through the day without your morning latte, but make it a rule that no caffeine touches your lips after sundown.
Get Comfortable
Drugs
Create a room that’s ideal for sleeping. Often, this means cool, dark and quiet. Consider using room-darkening shades, earplugs, a fan or other devices to create an environment that suits your needs. Mattress and pillow can contribute to better sleep, too. Since the features of good bedding are subjective, choose what feels most comfortable to you. If you share your bed, make sure there’s enough room for two.
Perfect Amount of Sleep
Many of us try to sleep as little as possible—or feel like we have should. Not everyone needs the same exact amount of sleep, but with a little trial and error, you should find your sweet spot pretty easily. Count back 7.5 hours from when you need to wake up, and make sure you get to bed at that time—then adjust accordingly. The quality of your sleep directly affects the quality of your waking life, including your mental sharpness, productivity, emotional balance, creativity, physical vitality, and even your weight.
Morning Exercises
The best time to prepare for a good night’s sleep is the first thing in the morning. Exercising in the morning can help deepen your sleep and make sure you fall asleep quicker, according to a study by the National Sleep Foundation. If you aren’t much of an exerciser, there’s no better time than now to upgrade your health and fitness routine than now. A day of physical exertion (such as taking a run or a swim) or better yet, regular exercise, can make for deeper and more restful sleep. Don’t exercise right before bed to help you get to sleep; while it tires out your muscles, it also boosts your heart rate and makes you even wider awake. Give your body time to cool down, and for you to re-hydrate so consider about 2 hours before bedtime as a cutoff for exercise. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 57

12 Celebrity Couples Who Can’t Ever Get Divorced or We Will Lose All Faith in Love With celebrity divorce falling somewhere on the likelihood scale between the chance of rain in Seattle and the chance of death and taxes, conventional wisdom says that pinning your belief in the power of love on the strength of a celebrity union is somewhat misguided (also dumb). But there’s just something so unconventional about some of these couples, that makes us want to throw our better judgment to the wind and BELIEVE!
1. Beyonce & Jay Z These two are seven years strong into their marriage with no signs of stopping. They seem to be at the point in their lives where there’s nothing they can’t do. Honestly, we just need this right now. We need “Beyonce & Jay Z” to exist just so we can know that it’s possible for a “Beyonce & Jay Z” to exist. They’re not just a couple anymore. They are self-evident.
2. Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton This country couple just makes us want to smile forever. Not only are they possibly the best honorary aunt and uncle ever to Kelly Clarkson’s daughter River Rose, but they have that kind of trust in each other that keeps good marriages strong. Miranda even told 60 Minutes, the couple is so confident in their relationship, they won’t even do a joint interview! “We feel like we’re very honest with who we are and our relationship,” she said. “We’ve kinda told the good, the Sept 2015 Global Movie : 70
bad, the ugly as our relationship has progressed from the beginning till now. And people dig anyway and they make up lies, so I feel like, we don’t really hold back, because if you hold back they’re going to dig anyway so might as well just tell it.” UPDATE: As of July 20, Blake and Miranda have decided to call it quits. This is very hard news to deal with because they were basically country royalty. Please enjoy the rest of this article as we try to mend the cracks in our delicate faith in the idea of love.
3. Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt
When Angelina and Brad finally married in August of 2014, they were already “the couple.” They have a big, loving family together, they’re iconic actors now turning their focus on producing and directing, they just make sense. Brad & Angelina is the new Peanut Butter & Jelly. It just rolls off the tongue. We don’t need anything to ruin that.
4. Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson
What makes Tom & Rita’s bond so special is that they’ve gone through what many couples fear most -a battle with cancer. Rita told The New York Times that she was amazed with how Tom -- whom she has been married to since 1988 -- reacted to the couple’s first serious illness. “You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this,” she said. “I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me. It was such a normal, intimate time.” Her stepson Colin Hanks revealed at the CBS Upfronts in May that Rita is now cancer-free after undergoing a double mastectomy.
5. Chris Pratt & Anna Faris
Somewhere along the way, these two wrestled the “It Couple” title simply by brute adorableness alone. Chris and Anna appear to have the kind of “I married my best friend” dynamic that is usually a GREETING CARD LIE, but somehow just isn’t with them! “Anna and I are meant to be together,” said Chris in a Reddit AMA. “Our relationship has made me believe in divine intervention and destiny, just as much as my crazy career and the way I fell into this life. She and I grew up 20 minutes away from each other but never met until we met in LA.” Sept 2015 Global Movie : 71
6. Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi In 2014, Ellen and Portia put to bed rumors that they were having a baby onThe Ellen DeGeneres Show. The couple, who will have been married seven years in August, is simply happy enough with each other. ...Even if Ellen surreptitiously records Portia working out from time to time!
7. Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard
8. Neil Patrick Haris & David Burtka While they married in 2014, Neil and David have been together since 2004. NPH dispelled breakup rumors last year by writing, “I couldn’t be more in love with my family. Any reports to the contrary are woefully mistaken. #grateful,” along with this adorable photo. Somewhat selfishly, we are not ready to give up their incredibly adorable photo-ops with their twins, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace Sept 2015 Global Movie : 72
Kristen and Dax have used couples therapy as a way to maintain their happy marriage before problems arise. “You do better in the gym with a trainer; you don’t figure out how to cook without reading a recipe,” Bell told Good Housekeeping. “Therapy is not something to be embarrassed about.” We certainly hope so, because if the pair were to get divorced, we’d probably cry more buckets than we did during the Parenthood finale.
9. David Beckham & Victoria Beckham This couple has been married since 1999, which means their marriage has technically has existed during three decades. Which is insane when you consider they remain to this day one of the hottest couples around. Fashion goals, relationship goals, soccer goals. Victoria and David basically just give us all the goals.
10. Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale Married since 2002, Gwen and Gavin have three sons together. Besides 12 years of marriage being an industry anomaly, our belief in their relationship comes from how Gwen honestly and disarmingly talks about the realities of marriage. “It’s good to have those days when we both do our own things,” she toldCosmopolitan earlier this year. “I think that’s what keeps relationships going, when both people can be themselves and have their own individuality.” UPDATE: And so goes the second. After nearly 13 years of marriage, Gwen Stefani has filed for divorce from Gavin Rossdale. We really hope we did not doom all of these couples. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 73
11. Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgwick This is our proof couple. Kyra and Kevin have been married since 1988. They’ve got love DOWN. Kyra once gushed about her husband to People, saying, “I don’t know how he does it, but he always makes me feel like I’m the most beautiful woman in the room – the only girl in the room. He says ‘Honey, you look beautiful. You are sexy!’ Always, always, always!” Hold on to the trust you have in this union, because our next entry might make you roll your eyes all the way into your head.

12. Kim Kardashian & Kanye West HEAR US OUT. We know. We know. Kim is the queen of the 72-daymarriage, and while Kanye actually has a pretty good track record for long-term relationships, the correspondence he maintains with one of his high-profile exes is... rancorous at best. What are the chances that THEY’LL last?? You’d be crazy to take that bet. Here’s why to be crazy. It’s easy to forget that 72-day Kim is now expecting her second child with Kanye, which means statistically at least, the literally are less likely to get divorced. But those are just numbers. They don’t really get at the heart of what it is about this couple -- who oftentimes drive us up a wall -- that makes us want to believe. Please read the rest of this while listening to Kanye’s “Only One.” No one is denying Kanye West’s realness. Kanye West is real AF. He gets into a lot of trouble because he literally can’t not say the words he is thinking all the time. And knowing that, you know that no one on Earth is more in love than Kanye West is with Kim Kardashian. In his own
Kanye way, he’s told us thatagain, and again, and again. But we’ve all seen this before.... Even IF Kanye is in love, for Kim this is all about one thing -- publicity. Right? Well, if Kim really doesn’t love Kanye, she’s doing a damn good job acting (and one quick look at her Rotten Tomatoes page shows us how unlikely that is). Caitlyn Jenner told Diane Sawyer that Kim credits Kanye for helping Kim to understand her transition. And that’s not the only time she has talked about her adoration. On Instagram, Kim wrote, “You have changed my life in more ways than you know! The way you look at life inspires me! I love you so much!!!” Does this mean things won’t fall apart -- for Kim and Kanye, or any of these couples? Absolutely not. Just by the numbers, several of them at least HAVE TO. And if and when they do, we’ll be watching The Notebook, sobbing into a bouquet of roses that we literally bought for no one because love in 2015 is as distant as the moon. Then we’ll pick ourselves up and remember that some celebrity divorces go surprisingly well! Watch the video below for Hollywood’s friendliest divorces. Sept 2015 Global Movie : 75
