COVER STORY

Does Akshay Kumar have a special clause for heroines?

15

Does Akshay Kumar have a special clause for heroines? Off late there has been a trend with Akshay Kumar films. No, we don’t mean that the actor has opted for movies with a message or then the fact that his films do great business at the box office. What we are talking about is that in his last few movies the actor has not repeated his heroines. So. when we caught up with the Toilet Ek Prem Katha actor recently during his film’s promotions we quizzed him if he has any specific heroine clause in his contract. Akshay begged to differ and defended himself, he said, “It is not like that. I have done with a lot of actors four to five films. Last two years may be like that, but in my career I have worked in four, five films with the same actress.” We further probed the actor and asked if he has a rule about his costars and we got a curt “NO” as response. Akshay’s TEPK co-star Bhumi Pednekar sure seems to have benefited from the actor being open to working with new talent. Akshay revealed how Bhumi came on board for the recent release ahead of him, he said, “Toilet Ek Prem Katha, which was supposed to be Sandaas – Ek Prem Katha. All things combined I felt I wanted to do this film. I was intrigued about the fact that, she (Bhumi) didn’t even know I was the actor in it. When she had heard about the script she said a yes without knowing that I was there. When she got to know, then she started thinking whether I should do it or not.” Bhumi just couldn’t control her laughter when Akshay tried to egg her with this statement. The actress said, “Not at all. I was jumping with joy. I said yes! I mean who would have thought, my second film like a film like Toilet and with Akshay sir, I think my family with joy more.” Khiladi Kumar also went on to burst the myth about him taking up only movies with a message now. He said, “It is not that I want to take up something with an issue. I want to take up something which is always entertaining and fun. I should enjoy it. If I can enjoy it then people can enjoy it. It is not like I want to find something that has an issue. It is not like that. The projects just come to me. There is a movie (2.0) where I am playing a villain, what do I teach in that?” Well, we’re sure that after seeing Akshay‘s this statement on heroine clause many of his previous co-stars would be elated.

INTERVIEWS

Akshay Kumar paid Bhumi Pednekar the best compliment for Toilet Ek Prem Katha

B

humi Pednekar talks about the success of Toilet Ek Prem Katha, her Bollywood journey and mentor Aditya Chopra in an interview . Bhumi Pednekar is definitely a happy girl. Not only has this Yash Raj find won over the audience with her performance in Toilet Ek Prem Katha, the young heroine has managed to stand tall opposite Akshay Kumar in this film. With an interesting lineup in the upcoming days, How does it feel to stand tall before Akshay Kumar in TEPK? Honestly I’m blushing all the time. I’m so overwhelmed. I can’t believe firstly that Toilet has released. Every morning when I wake up and see my tweets and whatever messages I get I’m like Oh My God, my second film’s out! It’s done, after Dum Laga Ke Haisha I’ve gone through this entire process, which was like a whirlwind and now a very big chapter of my life is sort of concluded. I’m overwhelmed, grateful to God. My second film has been as important as my first film, I really feel like Toilet is like my relaunch into films because I look like a completely different person as compared to my first character. I’m very proud of the film and I’m very attached to it. One compliment that you received for TEPK that you cherish. Akshay Sir is so kind and so generous that at various places he has said, jis tarike ki acting he did his 90th film I’m already doing. It was very sweet of him to say. This is a compliment I’ll really cherish. I really look up to him and I really adore sir. And you know when you get a compliment from your co-star who’s been there and ruling for so long, it’s really heartfelt. How much does BO success matter to Bhumi as an actor? This is the first time that I’m really understanding the numbers. My only thing with Toilet was that I hoped it reaches out to maximum number of people and it gets the kind of love and respect that my first film got. For me Dum Laga Ke Haisha gave me so much love that I

was like this film has to do that, by love I mean my work was appreciated. I’m very happy that the film is doing really well at the box office. Because I also feel that returns need to be good, so that more people should be able to make such films. Did you show the film to your mentor Aditya Chopra? What did he say? Yes, Adi Sir has seen the film and he really liked the movie. He’s a constant source of motivation in my life. He’s a man of very few words, but yeah he really liked the film. He was very happy with my work. He has been a part of my transformation because I’m with YRF and Adi Sir has seen me through my weight loss journey. He’s always motivating us, always telling us don’t slack, don’t take anything for granted, work hard. He’s a great mentor to have. Akshay Kumar’s joke on Aditya Chopra helping you with choosing the right films. See by the end of it the call is ours, it’s always an individual’s call. But yes, Adi Sir is always a part of the process. I can speak for myself, I have a huge process that I go through before I choose a film, very internal, I take my time, I have a few people that are involved and Adi Sir’s opinion is very important to me, but at the end of the day it’s my call. What makes you take up a film? It has to be a perfect balance where I’m contributing something in the film, where my character is important and where the story is good. Especially I’ve only worked with first time directors, so I don’t really have anything to go by, except for my faith in the director and faith in the script. So I think it’s just a chance that you take, when I’m reading the script itself I sort of visualise doing it or not doing it to the best of my power. It needs to be a powerful role with a strong powerful script. Do you think Shubh Mangal Savdhan will benefit from

Toilet Ek Prem Katha‘s success? Well, I really hope. Because it’s such a sweet film, it quirky and funny and I really hope that Toilet does give it a push. I hope it turns into a domino effect. You seem to have a great comic timing. Thank you so much! That’s very encouraging. How much of your personal sense of humour translates on screen? I think I’m a fun person. I’m not somebody who’s out there to make people laugh, but I think I’m witty and I guess it comes from intelligence. I’m not trying to be pompous, but you know… I think I’ve been to have directors who have tapped into that aspect of my personality. I think the humour in films are so subtle that it stands out. Can you tell us a little about your upcoming film with Abhishek Chaubey and Sushant Singh Rajput? I actually can’t really talk about it. I’d rather have my seniors talk about it.

What was the biggest challenge that you had to overcome as an actor? I think the biggest challenge is to find that balance between how you look off and on screen, I’m still sort of trying to figure out what works for me. The vanity bit of it. I barely have makeup and hair done in my films. The acting bit is the easiest bit for me, I’ve danced in both my films so I don’t know. And I’m like an over critical person and I don’t get easily pleased by my work. So I’m always kind of on it. One film genre you’d not attempt… I don’t there’s anything that I possibly won’t do. I’m such a hungry actor. At this point considering that I’ve just entered the film fraternity, I’d literally want to do everything. As an individual I believe in realism, I don’t know how good I’d be with an over-the-top in your face, slapstick, exaggerated acting. I don’t know that’s my cup of tea, I think I sort of believe in realism.Bhumi is ready to win over Bollywood.

Akshay Kumar ACCUSES Bhumi Pednekar of being on selfie mode 24 hours

Akshay Kumar is fed up of Snapchat filters and selfies, is Toilet Ek Prem Katha co-star Bhumi Pednekar to be blamed?

Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar do not just share a great camaraderie on and off screen, the duo seem to have clash of opinions too. So, while we see this adorable couple fight over a toilet in the movie, it seems like in real life these two actors have disagreements over social media. EXCLUSIVE interview with the two stars asked them about a few current Bollywood trends that they’d like to keep and some that they’d like to ditch. While Bhumi was all excited about selfie and Snapchat, Akshay seemed pretty vary of social media. Akshay in fact would like to flush the selfie and Snapchat filters, while Bhumi obviously loves it!Akshay even went on to say how Bhumi is crazy about clicking pics. When Akshay revealed that he’d rather do away with the selfie trend we probed the actor further and he said, “No, I am, but itna nahi. She goes mad. 24 ghante selfie per rehti hai. She’s on a selfie mode only. I’ve seen her, raat ko sone se pehle bhi she checks it out. If the angle has changed that means it’s not a nice night.” Of course the Khiladi Kumar managed to leave us and his co-star in splits by the end of this conversation. Akshay and Bhumi are pairing up for the first time in Shree Narayan Singh’s Toilet – Ek Prem Katha. This movie was originally supposed to clash with Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer, Imtiaz Ali film Jab Harry Met Sejal. However, SRK’s team decided to avert the clash and instead picked a release date, which was a week ahead of Akshay’s film. Toilet – Ek Prem Katha is all set to release on Friday, August 11 and going by the trailers the film will spell success for Akshay and Bhumi at the box office.

Esha Gupta: Sometimes I wish I had another surname S

he knew before joining Bollywood that it is not going to be an easy journey and Esha Gupta says she has stayed away from "networking" to bag films but often feels things would have been different if she had another surname. The 31-year-old actor made her debut with "Jannat 2" in 2012 and went on to do "Raaz 3D" and "Chakravyuh" in the same year. “I am proud of the work I've done, it was tough (journey), but I have carved the way on my own. There are times, I wish even if four of my films flop, there is someone producing films for me and making films only with me.” "You think 'I wish I didn't have this surname but that surname (referring to being a star kid)," Esha tells The actress says because her father was in the Air Force, they travelled a lot - which meant making new friends and always being an "outsider", something which she still feels in Bollywood. "I think I am still an outsider. I am still treated like one to quite an extent by the so-called 'industry people'. It's their body language that lets you know. I can't blame them because even I haven't made an effort to be a part of them. I don't want to," says Esha. The actor says she has been advised by many people to go out and do networking to get films, but she

cannot tag behind people to land good projects. “People say I need to go out more to get more work. I don't know how it works. I don't go out, I just can't. I can't try to mince words, be sweet and rally behind you for work. If you don't like me, don't give me work.” "If you don't like me and still give me work, you'll only try to pull me down. If I am after your life to get a film, you're still going to give work to somebody else and badmouth about me behind my back," she says. Esha will next be seen in Milan Luthria-directed "Baadshaho", which releases today. She says though the heist-thriller is a multi-starrer, featuring Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi and Ileana D'Cruz, she is secure in the space the movie has offered her. "This is not the kind of film where I need to jostle for space. I am not worried at all. I am not one of those who says, 'My role is important', I am quite secure as to why I am there," says Esha. In films such as "Commando 2" and "Rustom", the actor played roles with grey shades and she says she enjoys doing such parts. When asked why female actors are not seen doing more grey roles, Esha says, "They are all so insecure, no one wants to do that role."

“Kaam Karne Mein Hi Mazaa Hain” NAWZUDDIN SIDDIQUI

15

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was born on 19 May 1974 in Budhana, a small town and tehsil in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, India, into a zamindari Muslim family of Numberdars. He is the eldest of his eight siblings. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar. Following this, he worked as a chemist in Vadodara for a year, before leaving for Delhiin search for a new job. Once in Delhi, he was instantly drawn into acting after watching a play. In 2004, which was one of the worst years of his struggle, he couldn't pay any rent. He asked an NSD senior if he could stay with him. The senior allowed him to share his apartment in Goregaon if he was willing to cook meals for him. Mohan Ayyer spoke to him.Excerpts. How is your journey so far from the small role in SARFAROSH to the title role of BABUMOSHAI BANDOOKBAAZ ? My journey is like a dream come true.Every known film maker is sending me a script, almost one or two daily. I am very happy. But the film BABUMOSHAI BANDOOKBAAZ is in censor trouble.I am playing a gaali denewala supari lene wala killer. It is very interesting. Director Kushan Nandy has come up with a weird idea and I took this as a great opportunity to excel my self in such a film. Coming back to

SARFAROSH, it was in 1999, I acted in this film. I then appeared in Ram Gopal Varma's Shool (1999), Jungle (2000); and Rajkumar Hirani's Munnabhai MBBS (2003). After moving to Mumbai I tried to get work in television serials, but did not achieve much success[..I I did a short film The Bypass in 2003, where I appeared with Irrfan Khan.] Beyond that between 2002–05, I was largely out of work, and lived in a flat which was shared with four other people, and survived by conducting occasional acting workshop.] Your first major role was in PATANG.Comments. It was this feature film directed by Prashant Bhargavaand the film was Patang, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, for which my performance has been praised by noted film critic Roger Ebert (awarding the film 4/4 stars), a role which 'transformed my acting style'.] You then appeared in four major films of 2012 – Kahaani (2012), Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2 (2012) and Talaash (2012). Oh yes. all these films gave me wide critical acclaim and I got the much needed recognition from the audiences and my fan base grew multifold. I won many awards for all these films including Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor, – –Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role Male both for my role as Taimur in Talaash: The Answer Lies Within as well as Stardust Award for Best Supporting Actor for my role in Gangs of Wasseypur.I was also awarded the –Special Jury Award at the 60th National Film Awards 2012, for his work in films, Kahaani, Gangs of Wasseypur, Dekh Indian Circus and Talaash.

Your six year old daughter Shoura did not like you in MOM. Comments. She was upset to see me as the Takla in MOM and she told me:” Ye kitna gandaa lagta hain.” You have been appreciated for your nuanced performances in Haramkhor, Raees and Mom. Recently you played the comic villain in Munna Michael .Comments. Thankfully all the roles in the above mentioned films are different and people liked me in these films.I always try and find roles that will allow me to show my acting abilities. I make a conscious effort to not repeat myself as I'm scared of getting stereotyped. Thankfully, I've been offered varied characters so far. I got the best appreciation for my role of the TV correspondent in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. What do you do in your spare time? I usually go to my village, Budhana [in Uttar Pradesh], or some remote part of India, Khuri, near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Here, in the cities, people know who I am, toh ek tareeka hota hai baat karne ka (so they speak to me a certain way]. There, no one knows me. I can unwind and just let my thought process go on. Wahaan aapke talent ka mazaa hai (that is where your talent comes into play). How many people you can talk to, just at a tea-stall, and befriend, and get them to share their life-stories. And they have such rich, deep philosophy in everything they say. You gave yourself more than 100 percent for Anurag Kashyap's RAMAN RAGHAV 2.0. Comments. Anurag Kashyap is one of my favourite directors and I actedin his crime thriller Raman Raghav 2.0, in which I play a sociopathic serial killer who models himself upon ''the dreaded, real-life Psycho Raman, who committed a spate of murders in Mumbai during the '60s. It was the most mentally draining role I had taken. The film was shot over 20 continuous days with a sparse crew, often guerrilla-style, in various locations across Mumbai, including the slums of Dharavi. During the shoot, as a result of the unhygienic surroundings, I fell seriously ill and was hospitalised for five days. Doctors at Andheri's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital suspected dengue fever, but they were proven wrong when I recovered soon enough and returned immediately to complete the schedule. While in the hospital, my wife Anjali was horrified at one time to see me lying in bed in a semiconscious state, repeating his lines from the movie. “She called up Anurag and say 'Yeh kya kar rahe ho?'” he says, laughing almost gleefully. “But issi mein toh mazaa hai! When Anurag Kashyap is directing me , I feel like there's some sort of supporting hand that's pushing me to break my own boundaries. It goes beyond normal chemistry. How will you describe yourself as Nawazuddin Siddiqui ? My looks or personality do not fit the image of a quintessential Bollywood hero, but I can boast of how easily I become one in a crowd. The irony is inescapable. I am a “kaala kaluta”, who cannot boast of a physique, looks or personality that can be

compared to the conventional 6 ft hero. It's an advantage as I can roam about freely. By the time people notice, I'm gone. From a village in UP to Bollywood. What's your story? I belong to a family of farmers. We are based in this village called B-U-D-H-A-N-A, in district Muzaffarnagar of Uttar Pradesh. There wasn't much scope for education there. But somehow my siblings (7 brothers and 2 sisters) and I managed to study. In my village only three things work: gehu (wheat), ganna (sugarcane) aur gun. The fear this gun culture instilled made us move out from our village. It was much later that I started taking interest in theatre. After completing my studies, I took up jobs like that of a chief chemist in Baroda. Then I joined a theatre group in Delhi. Since there is no money in theatre I had to take up a job as a watchman. All these things happened simultaneously. Then I enrolled myself in the National School of Drama (NSD), passing out in 1996. I worked in Delhi for four years before finally moving to Mumbai in 2000. How did Mumbai treat you? Delhi had drained me financially. In the beginning I felt it would be easy to get work here. But that didn't happen. For 4-5 years I did a lot of small Roles , crowd scenes. Around this time cinema was taking a turn for the better. Directors like Anurag Kashyap were making films like Black Friday. Slowly I started

getting work. Do your folks watch your films? Do they support your choice of profession? My parents live in the village where there are no theatres. Films are screened in the district, Muzaffarnagar, which is 40km from the village. They have to travel the distance to watch me. There's nobody to question who's doing what. As long as I am doing some work and doing it well, they have no problem. Now that you're popular here, how do your friends and relatives react when you go home? It's a sense of satisfaction because I proved all of them wrong. All of them said 'kya hero banega (how will he become a hero)' when I set out. When I go back now they say 'isne toh karke dikhaya (he has done it)'. I made it possible. During your struggling days, did you never think of giving up and going back to Budhana? So many times I felt I was wasting my time because things were just not working out. But I couldn't even go back. What would I do there? Spent all my life acting and I don't know any other work. Also, I was afraid my friends would tease me. Arrey hero banne gaya tha, wapas laut aaya (He had gone to become an actor and has returned with nothing). You said the gun culture is prevalent in your village‌ did you have any personal encounters? Did anyone ever ask you to join a gang? More than gang wars, honour killings happen on a large scale there. It is a lawless land where the police also don't interfere. I have seen it at close quarters. In fact, the last time I went home there were seven murders in 6 days. These things are very common and nobody does anything about it, even the police are helpless. There's no government involvement, no law and order. Having seen this so closely, did it help you prepare for Gangs of Wasseypur? To some extent. I know it happens because I have witnessed it firsthand. There were so many critics who said GOW was too violent and doubted if such things even happen. If you travel in the interiors of UP, Bihar, you will see that these things are very common. So Anurag Kashyap's research is bang on. Did you give any inputs while shooting for GOW? Not really. The screenplay, written by Anurag, was already well-researched. There's also a lot of improvisation when working with him. We are actors; all we can do is feeling the character. We suggest what can be done as an actor, but at the script level there is no exchange of ideas. Anurag writes scenes sans dialogue. He just tells you on the spot what to say. Many scenes have dialogue, many don't, a lot of improvisation happens on set.

you do for the camera is what is your contribution. He doesn't push his actors. He's not strict. As an actor you understand your part and do it your way. Lot of people are thinking of meeting you on the sets where you are shooting as they know you cant call all of them to your house. Comments. It's not so much because I know they're talking about my work. All these calls and everything does get a bit intrusive especially when I'm in the middle of a shoot. It starts affecting you as an actor. I don't want that my concentration wavers. Nothing should interfere in your acting. I guess these are things that come as a package and you have to bear it.So I don't mind if people want me to speak to them, provided I am free. Do you like what people say about your work in films ? I believe you should do good work and forget everything else. What people have to say let them say. I noticed that you play Muslim characters more than you do others. Inspector Khan in Kahaani, Faizal Khan in GOW, Asghar Mukadam in Black Friday‌ That's not entirely true. In Peepli[ Live] I was journalist Rakesh, in Dekh Indian Circus I'm Jethu. True in my last two films I've played Muslim characters. Inspector A Khan and Faizal Khan are two very different characters. I'm not like formula film actors, who no matter what the name/character will have the same performance, same body language. I did the Muslim characterand also the title role in FREAKY ALI. But I was not the Muslim character in the critically acclaimed film MAANJHI..THE MOUNTAIN MAN. Even your small roles in many films brought you great recognition . Comments. I did small roles in Dev D where I was only in one song (Emosanal Atyachaar), then Peepli [Live] which was produced by Aamir Khan, New York, Paan Singh Tomar and all these films were all hits. Are you open to doing a formula film? Yes, but it should have some meaning. I'm not up for dancing around trees or on streets senselessly. I'm okay playing a dancer or a rockstar but it should be a character-driven role. I'm not up for illogical stuff. My rolein the formula filmMUNNA MICHAEL has actually given me lots of of extra fans from the music fraternity as I am mad after dance and music in this film. What was your experience of shooting with Aamir Khan in Talaash? He is one superstar who makes a Lagaan, a Peepli [Live], a Taare Zameen Par and also a Delhi Belly. In my eyes he's an actor because he works hard and puts money behind all kinds of cinema. The way Aamir respects you is out of the way. I was just overwhelmed.

Do all directors work the same way?

What reactions do you get from other Bollywood stars?

No. They all have their style of doing things. When you're working with Anurag, he makes an attempt to know you personally, observe you. What he makes

People pay more attention now. Sometimes it gets too much. As a man who has lived a nondescript life in the industry suddenly being showered with attention, September 2017 | Global Movie

is not something I am used to. Do good actors lose out to stars in Bollywood? There's no hard and fast rule that good actors come only from interiors. There are some good actors even in our film fraternity. A good actor will be noticed no matter what. My problem is that just because somebody comes from a film family he gets paid in crores. He may be a good actor but that is unfair. Let him prove his ability first, right? Why don't they want to pay good actors? I want to become the highest paid actor. Not because I want money, but because I know I will be paid for my acting, for my ability to entertain. Is there any director you want to work with? I want to work with every young director that comes. These new guys have their own thoughts, ways of working. I want to exploit their passion and energy just the way they exploit an actor's. It's great fun to work on the first script of someone because there's so much that has gone into it. How many rejections did you face when you were struggling? There were times when I was locked for role but was then called and told it's not happening. Many rejections happened. Rejection had become a friend. After a point it stopped affecting me. It became just another thing after I went through emotions of shock, anger, frustration every time, in that order. Finally you're getting your due‌ It's a good thing. A bit late but very good nonetheless. Sometimes I think if I had got all these films 5 years back, probably I wouldn't be as grounded as I am now. It helps that way. What about female attention? Feels good that a kaala kaluta like me is getting any kind of attention. It makes me think of the reason I'm getting this attention, which happens to be my work. Quite happy about that.

Bhumi Pednekar says 'success hasn't gone to her head' I

n show business, stardom has often been perceived as a drug that few can handle. While many learn the art of concealing their newfound worth with forced humility, others show little care while acting on impulse. Among a series of box-office duds, Bhumi Pednekar's recently released Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which paired her alongside Akshay Kumar, was applauded. The success, it was suggested, had consumed the actor all too soon. An insider from Pednekar's talent management company told industry folk that she was throwing her weight around, even losing her temper quickly. In an interview to mid-day, Pednekar calmly dismisses such suggestions. "I don't know where these rumours are coming from," she says, adding that the accusation is bothersome since it hints at her character. "It's a comment on my upbringing, so, that is disturbing. But, I need to take it in my stride and move ahead. Those who know me don't agree with the things that have been written," she says, supporting her response by citing that she still "greets the security guard" at Yash Raj Films, a firm she has been associated with for several years, and "shares a meal with my staff". Having worked as a casting agent for six years before she got an acting break, the actor says she is aware of the treatment meted out to celebrities. "I know how the industry functions and am at the receiving end [after achieving success]. But, I am new to the industry, and I don't know how to deal with it. The actor is ready for the release of the comedy-drama, 'Shubh Mangal Savdhan', opposite Ayushmann Khurrana.

When she begins posting videos on YouTube without revealing her identity, she becomes an internet superstar. The film was reportedly originally scheduled to release opposite the Shah Rukh Khan starrerJab Harry Met Sejal. I do feel it would be better if two big films dont clash opposite each other. SoI decided to postpone Secret Superstar for Diwali release. Also, the school and colleges are closed as there is a holiday period for the children and I felt his is a far better period to release SECRET SUPERSTAR. So,you have to wait till October to come and also the Diwali week. You are playing the role of a superstar musician in SECRET SUPERSTAR and you faced stiff opposition from Kiran Rao who felt you were the wrong choice for the role. Comments. I told director Advait Chandran to take ascreen test for the role of the superstar musician. Then I told Kiran Rao that I have decided to play the role which was of a flamboyant kind. Kiran thought that I could be a misfit in this role. But after she saw me during the first day shoot of the film, she was fully convinced that I can play the role very well and believe me,this role which I have enacted has been appreciated by the critics too who saw me in the trailer of this film. Am like the'Tadka' in the 'Dal'. It is very unique and I haven't played such a role before. We believe that you are still shy to talk to the media very openly and remain as reclusive as ever. Comments.

you can see thru the maska-baazi which many do with most of the stars. Comments. I got fussaoed many times when I made honest comments about a certain film or a character and it does pain the direct parties involved. Some of my comments even went against national interest and all of them know it what happened to me and Kiran Rao,my wife. I too like to hear honest things about myself all the time . Par aisa har waqt nahin hota‌.I think people are more diplomatic so that they don't want to hurt you directly or indirectly. For instance, I was very pleased with Raju Hirani when he came to me and said that what I wanted to make with you, I no longer want to make with you. That film went to Sanjay Dutt and it was Lage Raho Munnabhai. What struck you the most by Raju Hirani's honesty ? I knew that Raju would turn out a great filmmaker and he is among the most -in -demand directors. I feel very happy for him. You also fell in love with the creativity of Murgudoss of GHAJINI ? Murgudoss has done a swell job like most of the South directors are. When I met him, he told me that the Hindi version of GHAJINI will have a different climax. When I saw the original in Telugu,. I was convinced with his words and we went as per our decisions to make it a slick film. The last thirty minutes of the Hindi version is daringly different than what it was in the Telugu version. Also, GHAJINI became the first Bollywood film to cross the 100 crore mark. At the success party of the film,I told Murugudoss that he deserves yet another party and I did throw one in his honour after all he has given such a big hit to Bollywood too, coming from South. It is believed that too much of action is hated by womenfolk. Comments.

I remain sincere to my work and most of the time I keep thinking about my role, my unit members with whom I like to interact daily and also my responsibility to whatever I think can add immense value to the film I deal with. At the moment it is SECRET SUPERSTAR. I am definitely promoting the film whenever the need arises. I don't think I am the reclusive kind who will avoid meeting people.

Action is one of the major highlights in GHAJINI. What happened to SHOLAY ? It was such a huge hit and I found women folk repeating the film and they too fell in love with Gabbar Singh. Everything depends upon the conviction with which you treat the subject. A film like GHAJINI hasn't come for a long time. While most of the makers are opting to make comedy fares with huge stars, I preferred to accept GHAJINI. What about the action seen in foreign films and women do go to watch such films in cinema halls too !

Many feel that you like only honest comments and that

PAR,a film revolving around on children. How did you anticipate the success of this film too ?

banner which requires myself in the normal physique. So, I have reduced a lot after DANGAL.

We had a very talented team which made the film TAARE ZAMEEN PAR. I stuck to the honesty of the children who are otherwise very innocent but very talented. I must mention here that very few films have been made revolving around children. TAARE ZAMEEN PAR had a very emotional script and I knew very well that emotions can move any person, especially when children are involved . Hence, the film was liked by all and it became a hit too at the box-office.

What would you advise the youth to maintain a good physique ?

Nowadays we see a lot of comedies like GOLMAAL series, MASTI,GREAT GRAND MASTI, FUKREY,MUBARAKAAN etc. Even you had clicked in a big way in a comedy venture ANDAZ APNA APNA and also did many comic scenes in ISHQ . Will we see a comedy fare from your banner in the near future ? I must say that Salman and me jelled very well in ANDAZ APNA APNA. I am also happy that Ajay Devgn and me clicked in those comic moments in ISHQ. I am eagerly waiting for a script which can make an exciting comedy film. I am looking out for the suitable script. As for other genres of films too, I will surely make those films, provided I get the right script. You managed to give a macho look in GHAJINI. Have you been inspired by other such actors such as John Abraham,Akshay Kumar,Salman Khan etc. to have a toned physique ? All these three actors have a great body language and they are brilliant in their own ways. I have myself put on weight for the role I did in DANGAL. I will surely maintain a good physique all the time. A perfect body is a must for every actor and at the moment I am doing one film THUGS OF HINDUSTAN for the Yashraj

Regular exercises which will help both physically and mentally to remain alert all the time. The human body can achieve a miracle if you are deeply interested to make your body your own temple. This feeling is very pure and such thoughts always bring the best part in you.Natural healthy food must be eaten day and night while some vitamin tablets can also be taken as per doctor's advise. People say that women always change their husbands. What change have you noticed after you married Kiran Rao ? No two people are the same. I lived with my first wife Reena for sixteen years and I have extremely high value for that period of time. Now, I am in the company of Kiran and that is also very exciting indeed. I have also grown a lot as a person over the years. You have seen the success of your films viz. QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK, DIL, RAJA HINDUSTAANI, RANGEELA, DIL HAI KE MAANTA NAHIN, SARFAROSH, ANDAAZ APNA APNA, GHULAM, LAGAAN,FANAA, DHOOM 3, 3 IDIOTS, PK,DANGAL etc. over the years . Comments. Oh, you are reminding me of all the lovely heroines Juhi Chawla,Madhuri Dixit,Karishma Kapoor,UrmilaMatondkar,Pooja Bhatt, Sonali Bendre,Rani Mukherji, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor,Katrina Kaif etc. who acted with me in these huge hits. Acting is my profession and film making business runs in my huge family. I have to be perfect in both the fields. We have seen the unprecedented success of BAHUBALI franchise and the film has beaten the collections of all the starrers of the Three Khans-Aamir,Shahrukh and Salman. Comments. The BAHUBALI franchise was made in Telugu and it was dubbed in Tamil,Malayalam and Hindi and yet the business was overwhelming. The Hindi version also did wonders. The unbelievable success of BAHUBALIproves that if Bollywood actors work more harder they can still make bigger films than BAHUBALI as Bollywood is always very big and everyone idolizes a Bollywood hero. But we Khans must also get the popularity of the fan clubs of South. It is actually the fan clubs which are making the South films very huge hits. But I am happy to watch the success of any film which becomes a boxoffice hit as films are made by the sweat and blood of all the unit members and the actors are paid huge sums too. So, I think the records of all box-office hits must be broken which will inspire the actors and the crew members of film productions to strive hard and make more films which will be watched by more people film after film. What do you feel about film censorship ? The job of the censor board must be only to issue the certificate grading it U or UA or A.I dont appreciate the censor members cutting any shot or any scene as it affects the creativity of the director who everyone believes is the Captain of the Ship.

This is what Kangana Ranaut had to say on the nepotism debate. Kangana Ranaut yesterday said she had made her stand on nepotism very clear in her open letter and does not feel the need to say anything else on the topic now.

At an award function, Varun Dhawan along with hosts for the event Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan mocked Kangana in the wake of the nepotism controversy. The trio were criticised on social media for the joke made at the expense of the actress and had to eventually apologise for the same. When asked about her take on the controversy, Kangana told reporters, “I've written about it. I've said everything on that matter in the letter. It is pretty much that.” The debate first started at Johar's celebrity chat show where Kangana called the filmmaker "flag bearer of nepotism.” Post the award function controversy, while Varun apologised on Twitter, Saif claimed in an open letter that he had personally said sorry to Kangana. In her letter Kangana had said that the debate and exchange of thoughts on nepotism is "exasperating, but is healthy.” Quoting a part of her "Rangoon" co-star's letter, where he "emphasised" on nepotism being an investment on tried and tested genes, Kangana had said, "I have spent a significant part of my life studying genetics. But, I fail to understand how you can compare genetically hybrid racehorses to artistes!” “Are you implying that artistic skills, hard-work, experience, concentration spans, enthusiasm, eagerness, discipline and love, can be inherited through family genes?" she asked, adding "If your point was true, I would be a farmer back home.” The actress was speaking at the trailer launch of her next film "Simran" directed by Hansal Mehta. The movie will hit the theatres on September 15. September 2017 | Global Movie

Q

aidi Band actor Aadar Jain’s lessons of success and failure come from Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan – read exclusive interview

Ranbir Kapoor‘s cousin, Aadar Jain is all set to make his acting debut with YRF’s Qaidi Band. In a BollywoodLife exclusive, he spoke about his aspirations, the advice he received from his family members and the success and failure lessons he learnt from Ranbir and Kareena. When I asked him about the time he realised he wanted to be an actor he revealed that while growing up he didn’t really know what he wants to be. He was into sports and was a part of lot of talents shows. He also used to play drums, as he was part of a band. He, basically, used to love performing on stage and do theatre and it was then he realised that performing is something that gives him a high. “During high school when everyone was applying for colleges that’s when I realised that I don’t want to do these different kind of things like join a business or do law or engineering, I wanted to act.” He then joined an acting school in New York and when he returned he joined Farah Khan and Karan Johar for Happy New Year and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, respectively as assistant director. “And then I came back and started giving auditions and that’s when I became an actor.” When I asked him about any advice he received from any of his family members, considering his a family of superstars be it Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan or Karisma Kapoor. He said, “When I actually decided that I want to be an actor, I actually made it very clear that I just want my my family’s blessings and I want my mom and dad’s blessings and my brother Armaan’s blessings. I didn’t want any advice because at the end of the day I have to take credit for my own success and failure in life. Whatever decisions, whatever steps I take I have to take credit for it. I don’t want anyone’s advice, I want to have my own journey.” I don’t think any producer or director would want to waste their money on people who are not talented I then asked about how he’s gonna deal with success as well as failure, as in his family itself he has seen success in Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor and a failure in his brother Armaan Jain’s first film, Lekar

Hum Deewana Dil. He said, “So I have great examples in front of me, my cousin Ranbir, my cousin Kareena and my brother Armaan, all their first film didn’t do well and they all picked themselves up. You have to work forward, you have to maintain yourself to work harder. Ya we are not here to do one film. I believe that when you work so hard in a film, you give it your all, you want it to do well. If it doesn’t do well then that’s the real time when you really work hard, pick yourself up and fight harder. That’s one thing I’ve learnt from all three of them.” Also read: Qaidi Band actress Anya Singh on nepotism: I feel it exists in every industry but it’s hyped in ours Later when I asked him about the reason he chose an unconventional film like Qaidi Band and not a quintessential love story, he said, “After I got off as an AD for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, I gave auditions to Shanoo Sharma for about three months. This opportunity actually came up when Shanoo thought I was fit enough to move forward for an opportunity like this. She put me in touch with Mr Habib Faisal, we auditioned for about 4-5 weeks. And in the middle of the audition process, he said to me, ‘Aadar, we can only move forward if you connect with the character and script, otherwise there’s no point of it. So when they narrated the story to me, I thought it was extremely entertaining and engaging and more than that I found it very educational because the whole setting of the movie is in jail.” He further added, “I have seen films like Shawshank Redemption and series like Prison Break but I didn’t really know about the life and characters that exist in jail. So that was something very challenging for me and more importantly I really connected with my character in the film. So for me I never found it unconventional or orthodox or ki koi hatke picture hai. And I am not saying because I am in the film, even if I didn’t get the film at that point when I was auditioning, this is something that I’d like to watch. Because it is educational not only for me but all those who don’t know about the topic of undertrials in India.” Aadar Jain will be making his debut in Yash Raj Films’ Qaidi Band, alongside newbie Anya Singh. The movie slated for a August 25, 2017 release… Share on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

xclusive! 30 questions with birthday girl Taapsee Pannu where she talks about her relationship, best kiss and more… Taapsee Pannu turns 30 today and we decided to take her down the memory lane by quizzing her with 30 questions about her life, love, family, friends and more. Trust me, Taapsee has never been this candid before. The birthday girl, who has just returned from Mauritius after wrapping up the shoot of Judwaa 2, will be spending her day with her family as she said, “I ll definitely not be working on my birthday. I am going to go back home to Delhi to my parents and just spend it there. Usually my birthdays are very quiet. They are not like party heavy. I either spend my birthday with friends and family at home or with them outside the country where I am just doing nothing, relaxing on the beach. This year max I will do is take my family out for lunch or dinner. Usually I prefer to spend it lazy to calm myself down and introspect how my next year is going to be and how I am going to see things from here.”

And here we begin with the fun “Birthday Rapid Fire”….

It depends on the mood actually! But ya if you ask one song that instantly triggers that romantic vibe then it has to be Thousand Words from Twilight!

Your birthday resolution? Are you single? I try to keep birthday resolution instead of New Year resolution and follow them for longer and stronger. This year I haven’t thought about it as much. Probably one day I will sit and decide. What is your best birthday memory? In school when you dress up differently, out of the uniform wearing some casuals and then everyone is flocking around you because you are just dressed up in fancy clothes. Also I used to love when everyone would stand up and sing Happy Birthday for you. Your favourite cake? There is nothing like favourite cake for me. All cakes are favourite. Like I am not very fond of cheesecake or mousse cake but other than that I love all cakes, especially the bread part of it. Craziest fan story on your birthday? I think the fact that they remember the date of a person who is not really a part of their life in real is so special. Especially the way how they take so much efforts to send you gifts and handwritten letters. I get really overwhelmed reading those letters on my birthdays. If a movie was made out of your life, what genre would it be and who would play you? I think the closest genre would be comedy because I am very goofy, clumsy that way. I talk before I think and I have a very nasty sarcastic kind of sense of humour. And the one who can duplicate me the best is my sister because she is equally funny. In fact a little more than what I am. What is the first thing you do when you wake up every morning? I love staring at the horizon from my window The last thought that you have every night before going to sleep? What time do I need to wake up tomorrow What is the first thing you notice about someone when you meet them? The way they talk! I notice the accent and see if it’s fake or they normally talk like that. Eventually, it all begins with a conversation and for me a grooming of a person is very important. Describe the perfect kiss in 3 words Spontaneous, short and sweet! Sweet in terms of the smell and taste (laughs) Is there any song that reminds you of a relationship?

Umm…No Any secret you would want to tell me? Whatever I have told is you all that I can tell you. I want to keep some secrets to myself so that I can laugh on them alone. Like they are just mine and nobody else gets to know about it! When was the last time you were pressurized for marriage? Never!!! My parents have never asked me till date that when am I going to get married. Whose advice do you listen to the most? I have learnt this one thing from my dad – Suno sabki, Karo apni. So I listen to everyone but I do only what I want to do. If you had to choose your nickname what would it be? People just call me drama queen. But if I had a call, I would want something filmy and dramatic. Like maybe something like Chingari

What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten? Oh! During one of my Europe trips, I ate grasshoppers and snails. I literally fried them had

I think the fact that everyone is so peculiarly different from each other. Like none of us have similar characteristics. My dad is super organised while my mom is so calm and my sister is extremely funny. But in all, we are just people with all heart.

If you could talk in your sleep, what would you say? One food you would never want to give up? (laughs) Oh people in my family say that the only time I don’t talk is when I am sleeping and when I am eating. So they definitely wouldn’t want me to talk when I am sleeping. What is the most interesting thing you have in your wallet?

Chole Bhature or cakes! Actually if you ask me to pick one then cakes! If you were to be any flavour of an ice cream them which one would you be and why? Tooty-Frooty because its colourful and a mixture of too many things, just like me.

Okay don’t laugh when I say this but what’s very precious to me when I am travelling is the iPhone pin that you use to change the sim. I mean, I have to keep switching between two sims so that’s a must in my wallet.

Mubarakan! It was fun, I laughed!

Your favourite dialogue from a movie?

If you won a million dollars, what would you buy?

I think the one that we use in a very cliched way – Bade Bade Desho Mein Aisi Choti Choti Baatein Hoti Rehti Hai. I think that line in itself easily helps you get over things ki chalo Chalta hai yaar, let’s move on!

I would buy a time machine because I really hate wasting time in the traveling journey to reach your destination.

Which was the last film you watched?

Four things you would want to change about yourself? What is your biggest addiction? Travelling! I can’t stay in one place for long How old were you when you had the weirdest haircut ever? I was in 12th and I always had this fascination to cut my hair because I am a Sardarni so I never got to cut my hair. I would play this whole drama in school saying chewing gum is stuck in my hair and stuff like that and get a haircut. In 12th I remember it was my very important day. I was a part of the head girl batch. But just a day before the ceremony, I cut my hair so short that it didn’t even fit in my pony. And on top of that I had curly hair so I looked like a lion king during my head girl ceremony. Oh it was so embarrasing…one of the most embarrasing moments of my life

Okay, I think I need to learn a little more patience because I am very hyperactive that way. Secondly, I don’t have tolerance level towards inefficiency or incompetency. I get really mad at people who don’t do their jobs right so I need to be a little more tolerant. Thirdly, I need to stop trusting people at the bottom of my hat.like I am very gullable. And the fourth is that I am over critical of myself so I feel I need to be a little nicer to myself.

If you could teleport right now, where would you go? To some other planet. I mean, I want to meet people from other planet and see how they behave. I know it’s kinda weird but then I can travel across the world any time, flying to a different planet would mean something! What is the last thing you liked on social media? Just before this call, I liked a GIF of two girls kicking and fighting in the car. I tagged my sister in it because we are kinda the same like that! Are you a dog or a cat person? I am not a pet person because I had a pet when I was a kid and it died at an early age. So I felt really bad and decided to never have a pet again. What do you like the most about your family? Rohit Shetty will NOT blow up cars in Golmaal Again and his reason will leave you stunned..

R

ohit Shetty‘s name conjures with the image of expensive cars blowing up mid air but the director said he has tried to stay away from his signature style in Golmaal Again. The 43-year-old filmmaker said he was tired of the media and reviewers’ for bashing his films for just having many car sequences. “I’m not blowing up cars this time in. I’m on detox in Golmaal Again. It’s a little unfair that you do so much hard work to make a 2.5 hour film and all they talk about is how I just blow cars. They make it look like the moment they sat to watch the film till the time they left the theatres, it was just about that. Pick any film of mine, there hasn’t been a car sequence that has surpassed two minutes, maximum five,” Rohit Shetty told reporters on the sets of Golmaal Again in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad (India). The filmmaker, who is directing the fourth film in the Golmaal series, is once again banking on the hit formula of fun and celebration. As he added, “Consciously, we’ve worked hard and we know there will be a lot of expectations. This film is bigger and better. We hope audiences like it. You have to make sure that you don’t go overboard. Also, don’t take the audience for granted. Don’t think that it will work because it is Golmaal. There’s a lot of humour but the story is simple. It doesn’t need extraordinary characters, it needs the simplicity.” The director even mentioned how he has extensively used computer- generated imagery (CGI) in Golmaal 4 to make it a children-friendly movie. “We have tried to go along the lines of Disney in terms of visuals. There is maximum use of CGI than in any of my films. We tried to give it a comic book feel. Just like Harry Potter or Krrish for children,” revealed the ace director. Rohit Shetty, known for his larger-than-life potboilers,

said he was comfortable in his zone as a director and never felt the need to break out of it. As he said, “I have always made big films. In fact, I’ll feel odd if I make smaller ones. I only make those films I feel I can pull off. I have to be comfortable with the project first. If I try to be someone else, it will not work. I’m happy doing what I do. I feel it’s important people are happy while making a film. Otherwise, we can’t entertain people on screen.” (ALSO READ – Rohit Shetty on Ram Lakhan remake being shelved: The young lot does NOT want to work with each other, I don’t know why they are insecure?) The filmmaker also recalled that he was in a tough spot after his directorial debut, Zameen, had bombed at the box office and Golmaal happened by sheer accident. “Zameen had tanked. I was writing a thriller when I got a call from writer Neeraj Vohra. He said he had a script for me inspired from a play they did back in the day When I first heard the script, I thought this is a career saver for me. Then I went to Ajay (Devgn) with it who eventually came aboard,” he said. Shetty quipped the industry had tagged Golmaal as disaster in making as it had a director-actor duo, known for action, making a comedy. On making sequels, the director said installments of only those films should be made that are satellite friendly, as he suggested, “I feel my films are satellite friendly. I can’t make a sequel to a film that no one has heard about for 25 years. That’s why it will have a recall quality and the sequel gives you an assurance of becoming a hit.” Apart from Devgn, the film also features Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu, Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Lever and new entrants include actors Tabu and Parineeti Chopra. The movie releases this Diwali, October 20.

Ileana D’Cruz talks about her Mubarakan co-stars Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Athiya Shetty

I

leana D’Cruz is at top of her game with some great films in her kitty. The actress was last seen in Rustom opposite Akshay Kumar and is now ready to impress us all with her comic role in Anees Bazmee’s Mubarakan along with Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Athiya Shetty. Needless to say, Ileana is great with her comic timing; we have seen the actress in two comedy films before Phata Poster Nikhla Hero and Main Tera Hero. Close to release of her upcoming film Mubarakan, the beauty gets chatty with us on her experience of working with the team. On working with talent powerhouse - Anil Kapoor

Everyone asks me what did you learn from Anil Kapoor… He is a big star. He is been around for so long. But I have never looked at my co-stars as the actors they are. Like say if tomorrow if I work with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, I’ll be very happy but when I’ll be on set I will look at him as the character that he is, and not as Mr Bachchan, the legend. And same went for AK, he prefers we call him AK which is weird for me but I’m getting used to it (Laughs). I was excited to work with him. I loved him. I have loved his films. I have grown up watching his films. It was a nice experience. But I wasn’t star struck. I was curious to know how it’s going to go. I didn’t know what to expect with him but what I absolutely loved about him, it really took me by surprise how he was so energetic. How enthusiastic he is. He will come on set like it’s his first day. It’s like a child in him. And I thought that was sort of great energy to bring on the set. He was influencing positively everyone on the set. That was beautiful. We would do such long hours in London and it was still amazing working with him. We didn’t feel tired. It was lot of fun. Sharing the screen space with Arjun Kapoor Arjun was fun to work with. We didn’t honestly got time to chat and unwind in between shots because he was doing double role. He was either busy doing his shots or if he was not doing his shots then he was busy changing into his other character and doing shots again. It was tricky to play role like this. I would love to do it some point. But my god it’s tiring to play double role. He had longest hours, longest days. It was fun though. We were super comfortable with each other and it really helped our characters. We played this couple who is in love. On Bonding with Athiya Shetty We talked about so much stuff. We talk about food, life, cloths, our past boyfriends. We used to talk about stuff girls talk. We talk about set if she was having bad day on set, we talk about it. There was great day also on set so we talk about it. And the same goes for me. If I was having a crap day, I will be like oh I’m having a yuck day. We would just talk about stuff without being worry about what the other person is going to think because we could be just that normal. We had that normalcy with us. We actually felt like buddies like bumchums. – Inline image 1"This e-mail message may contain confidential, proprietary or legally privileged information. ctor Ajay Devgn says there was never any insecurity in his generation about working with contemporaries but that does not seem to be the case with the young stars today. Ajay, who shared the screen space with Aamir Khan in "Ishq" and worked with Salman Khan in "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", says it is not difficult to shine while standing in a frame with another actor. Filmmaker Rohit Shetty reportedly said his "Ram Lakhan" remake fell through because the male actors were insecure about working together. Ajay, who has worked with Shetty extensively, voices the same concern and believes young actors are taking their work too seriously. "I don't know why that's happening. You have to ask them (young actors not doing two-hero film). But I think they are taking their career and work too seriously," “You can stand in a frame with someone and shine. Why fear it? When you shine with somebody, you reach greater heights.” The "Shivaay" star says the major difference between actors today and his generation is that they never took their work as seriously as the young stars do. “We never took our work seriously at all. Honestly speaking, for the first 15-20 years of our life we didn't. I was very lucky that I never had to struggle. But I did work hard. As the industry kept evolving, audience

Ajay Devgn: Young actors taking their career too seriously kept changing, our mindset (towards work) also kept changing.” In the '90s, Ajay, 48, would have at least four-five releases a year but that changed with time. It made him realise that he can't be doing way too many movies at a time. “There was a point when I was doing too much work. So, I cut down on my work. That's how the whole process started and it became a system with everybody, doing one film at a time.” When the actor began his film journey in the early '90s, there were several star kids already in the industry like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Sanjay Dutt. But Ajay says he never fought for his space with them as he had not intended to become an actor in the first place. "I was pushed into acting any which way. My first film started when I didn't want to do it in a way. It was a superhit and there was no looking back after that, no struggle. “When I look back... In 26 years, I think there must have been one or two years where I didn't have a hit, otherwise if one didn't work, the other did. There was never a low phase.” His current film, "Baadshaho", is scheduled to release this Friday.

Her outfit for the special day has been designed by Neeta Lulla. "Besides doing clothes for a lot of my films, Neetaji also made my wedding outfit. She adds confidence and grace to my look with her clothes," Esha Deol told mid-day earlier. Talking about the outfit, Neeta Lulla , “It's an asymmetrical Anarkali with multi layers of red and pink tulle, crafted with gota, zardozi and sequin embroidery paired with a sharara, which will enable her to walk around freely.” Esha Deol told that when she had married Bharat on June 29, 2012, her mother Hema Malini had flown in a priest from Tirupati and since he spoke only Tamil, none of her family or friends had understood anything. "This time it's a Sindhi priest who speaks

Hindi too, so my in-laws will at least understand what is being said," Esha Deol told that. The report shared more details about the ritual. It said that the priest will be chanting prayers for the well-being of Esha Deol's child too. Family members will also apply oil on Esha's forehead and shower her with blessings and gifts. The event will also see a 'mehendi' ceremony where women will be singing and dancing to folk music. Esha Deol's baby shower will be an intimate affair hosted by the Takhtanis. The report also says that a special 'chappan bhog' for Lord Krishna has been organised and guests will be served a 'satvik' lunch after the ritual. While talking to the tabloid, Esha Deol said, "Over the last five years, Bharat and I have become as thick as thieves. Since I’m pregnant, I’m prone to mood swings now but he’s tolerated them and is extremely protective. He’s also my best critic, encouraging me in everything I do. At the risk of sounding filmi, I’ll say I wouldn’t want to change anything, life’s beautiful!" September 2017 | Global Movie

Saif Ali Khan: Easier to express story on web than on big screen

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who is all set to star in Netflix's upcoming original series 'Sacred Games,' feels that it is easier to present a story on a web platform. While present at the launch of the web series, when asked about all the censorship game, Saif noted, 'The fact that there is lack of censorship and we will be able to tell our stories in truth is very exciting. I don't like the idea of too many constraints. So this book is so layered and to be able to present that without having going to 500 institutions and seek permission to express yourself freely is good.’ The actor also quashed all the reports of being part of Kabir Khan's web series titled 'The Forgotten Army' and noted, "Right now the only streaming service I am working with is Netflix.” On being asked that he is one of the few A-listers who are venturing into the digital space, he shared, "It is not like a strategic move to be better or faster than anybody else, the way I see is that it is exciting to be a part of the creative world.”

On the professional front, Saif is also gearing up for the release of his upcoming film 'Kaalakaandi', wherein he will be seen playing an eccentric character. The movie is a story of six characters from different worlds, urban, ambitious Mumbai and its dark, neglected underbelly, a raucous tale about life, death, karma, that barrels through one monsoon night.

Taapsee Pannu: Feminism not about asking for reservation. Taapsee Pannu, who has played powerful roles in movies like 'Baby' and 'Pink', says feminism is not about asking for reservation or extra rights to get an edge over the other gender, but about working towards gender equality. The actress on Sunday unveiled a Common Women poster of R.K. Laxman's granddaughter here. "We should start with equality in education, where you have the right to say something, to stand for something which you believe in. Feminist isn't someone who is going to ask for a reservation or extra rights or an edge over the other gender... No, that's not called feminism. “It's someone who works towards gender equality.” Taapsee said she herself is a very proud common woman. “If there is anything I can, I will do it for a lot of common women.” When asked about how she has remained a "common woman" after all the fame and fan following, she said: "I would like to thank those people who are from outside the film industry, those who have supported me and brought in me the sense of being a common woman. That is very important because when you are an actor, you can lose the sense of reality. “You have to be very real, very grounded and very normal and that's where my family and friends stepped in. I think because of their support, I wasn't scared to fall... That's why I kept on taking one risk after the other, that's my backbone.” Taapsee is next gearing up for the release of her upcoming film "Judwaa 2", the trailer of which was launched here on Monday.

Manish Malhotra: I'm a part of films as much as they are a part of me Cinema has had an unmistakable imprint on his career but fashion designer Manish Malhotra says he was initially criticised for starting the trend of Bollywood showstoppers. Malhotra, who has completed 27 years in the industry, is not only a celebrity favourite but has also been responsible for some of the most stylish movies, be it "Rangeela", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" and "Veer-Zaara", among others. In an interview Malhotra says, "Having Bollywood stars in my shows was never planned. It was organic. When I was doing my first fashion show, I made Urmila (Matondkar) walk as we had just done 'Rangeela' and a lot of actors came to my show. That unknowingly started the trend of showstoppers and the front row.” The designer says while people mocked his shows for their star quotient, having a Bollywood showstopper has become the trend now. “I was criticised for getting celebs. Today, when I see all the designers running after actors to make them wear their clothes or calling them to be the showstopper, I have the last laugh. For me, it was always out of friendship and emotions. I am a part of movies as much as movies are a part of me.” Malhotra says his journey in cinema has been beautiful and the support of his celebrity friends keeps him motivated.

“I was so wide eyed about Indian cinema. I had the foresight to look into costume designing, which no one was looking at. Of course, it involved a lot of hard work. Today, I feel inspired and that encourages me to do a lot more.” While juggling his collections and movie commitments, Malhotra often faces a creative block but the designer says he cannot afford to stay in that zone for long. "Every day is not a Sunday and there are times when I come to my office and my assistants have a lot of questions. I go through them and feel blank. “But I have the responsibility of 600 people who work with me. They are like my family. I am responsible for them. I don't have a choice other than think and explore. I can't let them down.” With his latest collection "Tales of Indulgence", which he showcased at the recently-concluded Lakme Fashion Week, Malhotra is venturing into bespoke tailoring. The designer says he wants his brand to evolve with time and bespoke tailoring was something he was keen to explore. “It's 12 years for the brand. I wanted to push myself. The brand has been evolving and has done really well in the past seven to eight years. I want to add diversity and range every season and bespoke tailoring is something which we had not explored."

Ajay Devgn on being called 'rebel': I know I am right, I care a damn

There is something about box-office clashes and Ajay Devgn. The actor's last film, Shivaay locked horns with Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Now, his upcoming film Baadshaho is pitted against Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Shubh Mangal Savdhan. Once he emerges from this clash, he will again have to battle it out with Aamir Khan as his Golmaal 4 releases alongside the latter's Secret Superstar. Most actors in his place would be crying foul already. But, Devgn says matter-of-factly, "Box office clashes don't matter. It has become common and happens with almost every film. It's just that some people voice their opinions, while others don't.”

Unruffled as he faces another box-office clash, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn says industry sees him as 'rebel' only because he speaks his mind. Read his exclusive interview with when his Shivaay clashed with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil — a gesture that many in Bollywood saw as an act of rebellion — and he reasons, "I am not a rebel if I voice my opinion against a wrong practice. I am honest with myself, I speak my mind and say what the truth is. I have never played the victim card and will never do that, as I am strong enough to face the situation.” The actor is aware that in an industry that thrives on pandering, his I-don't-give-a-damn attitude may have cost him friends. “I don't feel the need to be diplomatic. I am happy the way I am. As long as I know I am right, I care a damn," he says, as he cracks a rare smile

“He wouldn’t dare try to hit on me”, quips Jacqueline Fernandez on her linkup rumour with Sidharth Malhotra

What's brewing between Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez? If there’s any hot new linkup rumor doing the rounds on the internet right now then it has to be that of Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez. Where the couple is painting the town red by going all out to promote their next film A Gentleman that’s releasing this Friday. Their over friendly equation is also believed to be the reason behind Sid facing issues with his girlfriend Alia Bhatt. In fact, there’s already a buzz that suggests Sid and Alia have broken up for even on Neha Dhupia’s Podcast #NoFilterNeha, Sid didn’t hesitate once before announcing, “I am…single” So it was only obvious for me to ask Sid and Jacky about their proximity, when I met them recently. But oh, they seem to have got along so well that the minute I said linkup they got into this pretentiously funny banter saying, “What, what??? You wish! Whatever” On being prodded further on how come Sid never tried to hit on Jacky she added, “Never! He wouldn’t dare try.” To which Sid counter-questioned her saying, “Oh so you think I am not that risky?” And that’s when Jacqueline decided to reply on a serious note as she said,”No, no, you know what the funny thing is, me and Sid met ages back following which Sid too recalled to the time when he met Jacky for the first time and there began a hilarious throwback story that not many know of. Here, watch the video below… Talking about what keeps her connected with Sid, Jacqueline added, “We have discovered more and more about each other over the course of time. I mean, I have discovered quite a lot of things about Sid. He is quite a quiet person. He is very low key. There were lot of things that I didn’t know about him but today more than a co-star, he’s become a friend. So that’s great because we share a lot of similarities. Like we both have come from outside the city, started with complete scratch and kind of figured out our own way.” Now it’s left to see how Alia reacts to these rumours of Sid and Jacky, if at all she ever does!

Sidharth Malhotra has the SECRET to cheer up a heartbroken Jacqueline Fernandez.

Sidharth Malhotra has a hilarious way to cheer up a heartbroken Jacqueline Fernandez. By now you would know how Jacqueline Fernandez is someone who barely takes anything seriously! I mean, it’s like you make fun of her, say rubbish, yet you wouldn’t be able to take that smile off her face. She’s like this brand ambassador of happiness. So it came as no surprise that even when her ‘Gentleman’ Sidharth Malhotra kept trolling her during my interview, she played along so sportingly that she was actually seen enjoying all the jokes on her. Yes…take for instance this one when I asked Sid to be a true gentleman and cheer up a heartbroken Jacqueline. Firstly, Jacqueline would be the last one to ever remain heartbroken for long but any how if at all she ever gets upset, I asked Sid what would be that one trick he would use to light up Jacqueline’s mood? And there….there…he didn’t think twice before saying, “Jacqueline Instagram”, “Jacqueline, new app on social media”…Jacqueline, new filters??” Oh! Jacqueline couldn’t stop laughing on hearing this and also admitted how much she loves filters. Here, watch the video below: Let’s not forget, even on No Filter Neha, Sid spoke about Jacqueline saying, “Jacky is the brand ambassador of social media. While we were on the bike promoting A Gentleman, she was quite worried about her phone as she was doing the live video. She is a mad and a crazy girl to work with. And then she was not interested in me or what we were doing. She was more interested in what’s happening on social media. I think if we take away social media from her, a part of Jacky will die. I also feel one if she has kids, one of them would be named Facebook, one would be named Instagram and one would be Twitter.” Of course, Sid said it all in the jest of it but the best thing about these two is how comfortable they are in each other’s company. Their chemistry looks so HOT and moreover anything, they have got to know each other so well over time that it’s almost like they are the new BFFs in town. While rumours suggest Sid and Jacqueline are more than just friends. I believe they share the cutest bond together. Your thoughts?

Hrithik Roshan finally opens up about Anand Kumar’s biopic Super 30, calls it an “inspirational journey”

Hrithik Roshan finally breaks his silence about working with Vikas Bahl for Super 30... Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil released in January. Shah Rukh Khan, whose Raees, released on the same day has had another release — Jab Harry Met Sejal — while Hrithik is yet to confirm his next project. The actor, who was at a luxury brand event recently, spoke After Hrs about the film that is likely to be his next release — Super 30, a biopic on mathematician Anand Kumar. Here the actor talks about his next project for the first time… # Meeting Anand Hrithik met Anand recently at his house. Talking about the meeting, Hrithik says, “I had a very nice meeting with him. He’s a fantastic person. Apart from the movie, I have engaged in a lot of other conversations with him about his life. It’s an extremely inspirational journey.” # You need not be identical One of the major highlights of any biopic is the way an actor moulds and adapts himself while playing a real person on screen. Picking up nuances like walking and talking like the subject. However, Hrithik has a different approach. He says, “That is a very individualistic approach. You don’t have to mimic or mirror someone to play them in a film. You need not be

identical, so why even try doing that? That’s one way to do it, maybe. But the other way is to narrate a story and to project the emotions in the best way that suits the actor. It depends on how you want to play it. For me, it’s not important to be exactly like the person who I’m playing. I didn’t even do it for Akbar. It’s purely the emotional journey that needs to be communicated.” # The waiting game In the last seven months, there have been some projects with Hrithik’s name attached to them, but none have been made official. Prod him further about Super 30 and he says, “It’s too early to get into such details. I am also looking at many other scripts. Nothing is official right now. But yes, this seems like a very, very good journey for me to collaborate on. We have to wait for the official announcement.” # Maths — not a problem! Mathematics spells horror for most people, but Hrithik seems perfect to play the part as he tells me, I was pretty good at Mathematics as a kid. Unlike others, I used to love solving Maths problems.” And his sons seem to have inherited that from him, “I don’t need to sit and teach Maths to my kids (Hrehaan and Hridhaan) because they are also very good at it,” added Hrithik.

Aamir Khan lauds Akshay Kumar: There are talented stars other than the Khans A

amir Khan said it is unfair to only take the names of the Khans when talking about stardom as there are other actors, who are popular and doing extremely well in Bollywood.

The actor was speaking at an event to launch a song from his upcoming production 'Secret Superstar'. He was accompanied by music composer Amit Trivedi, lyricist Kausar Munir and singer Meghna Mishra.

The 52-year-old actor cited the example of Akshay Kumar, whose latest film 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' has set the cash registers ringing.

Written and directed by Advait Chandan, 'Secret Superstar' chronicles the story of a girl, who aspires to be a singer. In the film, Aamir will be seen playing a flamboyant music composer.

"I think it isn't fair when you take the three names (Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir) while talking about stars. There are several talented stars in our film industry, who are extremely popular. Akshay's film 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' is doing good and people are liking it," Aamir Khantold reporters. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan's last releases 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' and 'Tubelight' - respectively, failed to create box office magic. When asked if the audiences are now gravitating more towards content-oriented cinema and not star vehicles, Aamir said, "I think every creative person goes through ups and downs. We all try to do good work, which will be liked by people.” "Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don't. I don't think that should directly reflect on the immediate stardom of a person. We shouldn't get swayed by this and continue to do what we believe in," he said.

The film is scheduled to release on October 19 and will clash with Rohit Shetty's 'Golmaal 4'. However, the 'Dangal' star is not worried about the clash and said both the films will get enough space during Diwali. “I think Diwali has the bandwidth to take two releases, so that was not a concern. Usually on Diwali you have two films, very rarely you have one film.” “Both films will have their own space, the genre of both films seem very different. 'Golmaal' is an out-andout entertainer, this film for us tells a very important story," he said

Huma Qureshi: I am a product of Anurag Kashyap's cinema. Actress Huma Qureshi, who debuted in Bollywood with Anurag Kashyap's "Gangs of Wasseypur", says that she is a product of Anurag Kashyap. Huma, who was present on Tuesday for the promotional interviews of her upcoming film "Partition: 1947", was responding to queries about the role of directors like Kashyap and Tigmanshu Dhulia in giving content driven cinema. "I am a product of Anurag Kashyap's cinema, he directed my debut film and I am glad that 'Gangs of Wasseypur' was my first film. When I was working on the film I didn't realise it then but the specialty of the film is that no matter where you are from you will enjoy the film and will be able to relate to it. "I think in that sense that Gangs of Wasseypur was a perfect launch for me. It was dubbed in various languages and received international appreciation as well. As an actor, the film was very important for me because it gave a direction to my future journey," said Huma.

doesn't matter if it's my first film or last. “This was a challenging film for me. The film has now been dubbed in Hindi for the Indian audience, and I really think people will appreciate the hard work that we have done for this period film.” On the ongoing censor board debate, Huma said: "Certification is necessary and as much as I understand, the censor board is suppose to certify the film and not dictate what people can watch. We are not a regressive society, I think Indian culture is very progressive, may it be our literature or our movies, we are making amazing films and we will continue to do it in future. People in the west love our films, our actors and we are moving forward.” "Partition: 1947" marks Huma's international debut. She was last seen in "Jolly LLB 2" and her future projects include a Tamil film titled "Kaala" directed by Pa. Ranjith. “Partition: 1947", presented by Reliance Entertainment, will release in India on August 18.

On the scenario of content driven cinema and mainstream cinema, Huma said: "I think times are changing, audience is changing and cinema is changing. You will notice that nowadays no films work because some names are attached to it, it works because the content is great. “I think people also want to see something new. We are in a digital age and people can watch any content that is available all around the world in any language. I think the time has come to watch and to make interesting films with stories that people will love to watch. And the box office also supports such films now which is great news.” Asked about which kind of kind of roles or films she prefers, Huma, who has done variety of roles in films like "Dedh Ishqiya", "Ek Thi Dayan", "Jolly LLB 2" and "Dobaara: See Your Evil", said: "I like doing challenging roles and different characters. Mubarakan sequel on the cards? Hear it from Arjun Kapoor

Arjun Kapoor talks about the unprecedented love and success Mubarakan has received, what went behind the scenes, working with Anil Kapoor again and the possibility of a sequel

Arjun Kapoor is on cloud nine and why wouldn’t he be, at a time when films are failing to even run past the first three days of their release, his last month’s release, Mubarakan, is still running in theatres, finding audience and making good money at the box office. Elated by the unprecedented love and success Mubarakan has received, Arjun Kapoor exclusively told “I think in today’s day and age for a film to survive four weeks in a theatre is a big rarity. And to have universal love and appreciation, you always feel very happy because that’s the whole idea behind doing a film. You want people to come out and like the film and have fun wholeheartedly and this was supposed to be a full on family entertainer, where you feel it’s paisa vasool. I think people getting their money worth of entertainment, for every actor it’s gratifying. You feel fulfilled that the primary reason to the film has been accomplished. You’ve connected with the audience and they have appreciated and reciprocated the love back.” When asked about his perfect comic timing in Mubarakan and how his dual act left many in splits, he said, “I think that’s the thing about being an actor, you should be able to surprise people, make them happy, make them laugh, make them get out of their comfort zone what they feel about you as an actor. This was something that was out of the comfort zone of the viewers. I always felt, I want to do comedies, this was the kind of script that excited me. That’s the beauty of being an actor, if you can surprise people, there’s nothing better than that. I am very happy that the improvisations, or the humour or the banter between

both the characters, Karan and Charan has been appreciated. It’s another added avenue open for me, the kind of genres I like doing. I mean, I love doing comedies, this has allowed me to think of doing more comedies now.” Talking further about his two roles, he revealed that it was very difficult for him to do both the roles as for the 60 per cent of the times in the film, he was alone, with himself. However, he said, “My greed was to create a character of Sardar that is not generic, that is not expected, where everybody would think, Sardar is the boisterous, angry and has a certain attitude. I wanted to play him against the grain. So to build a character that looks a typical way of sardar but you see a boynext-door in it. It’s for me was very interesting and challenging and I enjoyed that. Karan was the quintessential hero of the film, but Charan was the guy who I could really build another personality with.” When I told him about how audience is totally loving Charan’s antics, he responded, “Ya that’s because of the demeanor. Just the character, the way he came across, I think that and because of the vulnerability he had and the confusion and dilemma he had. He turned out to be a far more funnier and quirkier character that audience could connect to.” When I asked him about working again with Anil Kapoor after the perfect chemistry and comic timing they shared and which genre he’d like to tap next with his ‘Chachu’ if and when they collaborate in future, he said, “I don’t know yaar, actually socha nahin hai, you put this thought in my head now, so I’ll think about it. May be…maybe do another comedy only because the appreciation, the audience liked our banter, why not play off it and do more comedy only. It would be exciting to do a different kind of comedy maybe. Finally talking about the sequel of the film, he said, “You should ask Anees bhai immediately and let me know as well. There’s only one person that can answer that question and make that a reality and that is Mr Anees Bazmee.”

Despite Having Tendency To Gain Weight Easily, Parineeti Lost 28 Kgs With This Magical Regime. Unlike some of the actresses like Huma Qureshi and Vidya Balan, who have always been comfortable with the way they look, our Kill Dill star never felt the same way, as she once said: “Those actresses are comfortable in what they look like. I used to feel uncomfortable. I am in a visual medium and should be able to compete with every good-looking actress.”

This Punjabi kudi has won millions of hearts with her acting talent. Her bindaas attitude makes her different from the rest of the actors. Yes, we are talking about Parineeti Chopra. This bubbly girl soon hogged the limelight, first due to her acting skills and then due to her tremendous weight loss Parineeti accepts that before joining Bollywood, she used to be fat and weighed around 86 kilos.

Parineeti confessed that one of the biggest problems she faced when she was overweight was dressing up. She was sick and tired of ill-fitted clothes and having limited options of what to wear. She could not wear sleeveless and faced tummy issues too. The actress said in one of her interviews: “I was sick and tired of clothes not fitting and having limited options on what to wear.”

But now Parineeti certainly looks quite in shape. Want to know how she got her curves right in place? Then read on. The journey of Parineeti Chopra from 'fat to Fit’ Losing weight was not easy for Parineeti, considering her love for food. But, with a rigorous workout regime and a strict diet plan, she has finally shed those extra pounds. Not many actors openly admit about being overweight. However, Parineeti is one of the few actresses who not just accepts, but also talks about her weight issues openly to the media. In one of her interviews, she was quoted as saying: "I am a 25 year-old and there is no reason for me to look fat. I want to look great. I am taking care of myself and I am losing even more weight because I want to look better.”

Initially, Parineeti paid less attention to her weight, thinking she could get away with her acting skills alone. But, soon she realised that Bollywood is all about a combination of good looks, figure and acting skills, and thus began her endeavour to lose weight, in order to look good on screen. From size 38 to 30, her exercise regime!

Parineeti has been on the heavier side since her childhood. But, once she entered the film industry, her weight brought her into a lot of negative limelight. Despite having a hatred for exercise, she decided to take up gymming. With rigorous weight training, Parineeti, soon shut up her critics by showing off her more toned avatar. “I used to be 86 kilos; I used to wear size 38. Right now, fitting into a jeans of size 30 is a big achievement.”

To achieve this, Parineeti changed her fitness routine drastically. Here is the exercise regime she swears by:

So, to follow her dreams and make a mark in the industry, Parineeti had to give up on those pizzas, burgers and other fast food.

4Starting the day with jogging 4Meditation 4Doing yoga for an hour 4Involving into activities that she likes, such as swimming and horse riding 4Running on treadmill 4Using some deadly dance moves to kill those extra calories along with improving her dance skills 4Cardio and regular exercise

Here is the diet that she follows religiously now: Breakfast: One glass of milk, brown bread with butter, two eggs- white portion only, juice sometimes. Lunch: Dal and roti, brown rice, green salad and green leafy vegetables. Dinner: Simple food with less oil, one glass of milk and sometimes a chocolate shake. She also makes sure that she eats her dinner atleast two hours before going to bed.

Parineeti’s diet plan Parineeti has a tendency to gain weight easily due to her poor metabolism. Like most of us, she too loves binging on pizzas and pastas. But, this could have been a major hurdle in her weight loss journey. Here is what this Daawat-e-Ishq starlet has to say: “I gave up pizza! It’s my first love. I can let go of anything but not pizza. But I didn’t have a choice.”

How She Got Her Fab New Body

energetic, but I was just constantly tired. So, I decided to change that. We always aim to get thin. But that’s not enough. We should feel fit from the inside. I was unfit and overweight. Now as I am losing weight and getting fitter, I should soon be where I want to be.” But, here is another side to the story. Apparently, she

Parineeti has recently caused quite a commotion on social media with her amazing weight loss. Apparently she went on a sabbatical of sorts on the advice of her mentor, Aditya Chopra, post Kill Dil, which came out in 2014.

spent Rs.10 lakh to achieve her body goals! According to an industry insider who spoke to DNA India, Parineeti signed up for a detox programme in Austria. The source mentioned: "Under this program, the patient has to undergo several tests in order to determine what his or her body can tolerate. Depending on that, a diet chart for six months is drawn, which the clients have to strictly adhere to. And it costs between Rs 5-10 lakh for a 15 to 30 day- course, depending on the program… Pari’s expectation before taking up this new regime was that she wanted to fit into hot clothes. And she has got her wish.”

She took to social media to post photos of her latest photoshoot for the September issue of The Juice magazine. And, her new body and look is simply stunning. But, she has confessed that she dislikes the gym as she finds it boring. So, if you are wondering how she shed those pounds, then read what she told Hindustan Times: “For the last few months, I have been working on myself. I have lost a lot of weight, and I am much fitter now. I was so busy last year that I didn’t get the time to work on myself. I neglected my health, but now, I make sure I take care of it. I’m doing a form of Kerala martial arts called Kalaripayattu. I do it every day for an hour. It has made me more flexible, stronger, and has also helped build my stamina. I don’t like going through the regular gym routine to lose weight. It really bores me. I guess I couldn’t multi-task. I was working day in and day out, and not taking care of my health. I not only looked unhealthy, but also felt it. I wanted to feel

Well, her efforts have paid off, and she is one happy person, “When I had entered the industry I was big and used to fit into that size category. Now, I feel I am not, as I have lost much weight and look better. I don't want to be in that weight category. I am working very hard to become thin. I feel I am skinny now,” says a much happier and slimmer Parineeti.

Karanvir Bohra: Have become more responsible after fatherhood Karanvir said. He says having his mother, mother-in-law and sister around has been a great help in handling the 9-monthold twins. But Karanvir, who is popularly remembered as Viraj Dobriyal from the thriller show "Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava?", describes parenthood as a "different experience". "So we are responsible and caring, but we are really blessed that these little angles are in our lives. Sometimes me and Teejay wonder what karma we have done that they've been sent to us. They are really God's blessings," he added. How is he managing his work and personal life being a celebrity?

Popular for portraying negative characters on the small screen, television actor Karanvir Bohra says after becoming a father to twin daughters, he has evolved as a person and has become more responsible. "The only evolution that has happened in me is that I have become more responsible. Responsibility comes when children come into your life," Karanvir told IANS over phone from Mumbai. Karan married model-VJ Teejay Sidhu in 2006. The two became parents to two twin girls -- Vienna Bohra and Raya Bella Bohra -- in October 2016. The 34-year-old actor feels men now prefer to spend more time with their children. "The evolution I have seen from my father's time is that my father used to tell me, and even tells me right now, that he never put his babies to bed. My doctor also said that they were never around babies, but now the evolution is that the fathers have got involved a lot into their baby's life. So, it's easy for the mother also," he added. The actor says it's a good evolution that has happened. Asked how easy or difficult it is for new parents to handle parenthood, Karan said: "Only when you stay with a child or a child stays with you, then you realise how difficult or easy they are. In our case, we are really blessed that we have these God's blessings. They are pretty easy going. They do have their bad days also when they are sick or upset, but most of the time they are easy,"

"When the children were sleeping, I had to work. When I come back they wait for me with open arms and mouth wide open... So it's exciting. Fortunately, the show I am doing right now doesn't occupy too much of my time. I shoot three-to-four days in a week and rest of the time I spend with my babies," Karanvir said. But he firmly believes that men should also do their bit to support their wives. "Men should not only help, but also take the front seat whenever it comes to helping their babies because I am not just only about a diaper dad. I make cereals, milk, I put them to bed, whenever they are playing I sit and look at them... It also takes away from the mother's busy schedule. I think every father should be involved," he added.

Zakir Khan: Comics should get the liberty that politicians do. “

Mumbai's powerful get away with loose comments, then why should his tribe have to draw the line, asks comedian Zakir Khan

But, I fail to understand how you can compare genetically hybrid racehorses to artistes!” “Are you implying that artistic skills, hardwork, experience, concentration spans, enthusiasm, eagerness, discipline and love, can be inherited through family genes?" she asked, adding "If your point was true, I would be a farmer back home.” The actress was speaking at the trailer launch of her next film "Simran" directed by Hansal Mehta. The movie will hit the theatres on September 15. September 2017 | Global Movie

‘When you work with the likes of Jennifer Winget and Aneri, you have to up your game,’ says Piyush Sahdev of Beyhadh

Piyush talks about how Beyhadh's Samay was meant for him!

After a break of two years due to a knee injury, Piyush Sahdev made a tremendous comeback as Samay in Beyhadh. In a show defined with its spectacular performances, Piyush shone out brightly with fans terming his acting as next only to Jennifer Winget who gave an once-in-a-lifetime performance on the show. Delhi boy Piyush has been a part of the industry since 2007. He has worked in shows like Geet, Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev and Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke. However, it is the role of Rajeev Randhawa/Samay Ahuja which has been his most fulfilling experience. Here are excerpts from an interview… Emotional end Beyhadh was a really special show. You don’t get to play characters like Samay in every other serial. It was a role where I really got to showcase acting talent and how versatile I could be. Beyhadh was a great comeback and I got very emotional when my role finally ended. I could do what I wanted to as an actor for this show. It has been very fulfilling to say the least. Competing with Jennifer Winget See, it was not about competition. I was apprehensive before taking up the role of Samay. It was a grey character. Then, the producers told me that Samay could do anything for love. It was like Shah Rukh Khan’s character in Darr. After watching the film, people were rooting for Kiran (Juhi Chawla) and him to be together. Like him, Samay also wanted his love. I did not think about competition in the acting department. But when you have performers like Jennifer and Aneri Vajani on a show, you have to up your game. I took my role very seriously. Maine imandari se kiya and tried to do full justice to it. Beyhadh was not shot like a daily soap. If a scene needed something, the producers ensured that no expense was spared for getting it right. When your producers are investing so much, which is rare for TV shows, you want to deliver your best as an actor.

always motivated because of Jennifer. I won’t deny that her presence helped me enormously. On the funnier side, I know Aneri since a long time. When she started doing Beyhadh, she told me Piyushbhai, please see my new show and give me feedback. She said it was shot like a movie. I watched Beyhadh for a month though I don’t watch TV shows. While watching, I used to feel viewers would have more fun if they saw a character who could dominate Maya a little. Beyhadh is all about her, and she has no takkar but another antagonist would be nice. I never knew that three months down the line, I would be chosen to be that guy. Fitter and sexier At the end of Sapne Suhane, I had a knee injury, which was supposed to heal in four months but took a year. I was on bed rest and had gone into depression as I could not move about freely. I got roles but had to refuse them due to my condition. I also started eating a lot as you do when you are depressed. I gained kilos. I was out of action for a year and slowly resumed my walks and workouts. Post that, I took another year off as I wanted my comeback to be a really good one. Hitting the gym was easy but controlling my diet was the toughest part. I managed that and shed all the flab. There is a lot of competition in the market. You have to look chiselled, act well, know how to dance and look 10 years younger! My motive was to look fitter and different. My friend Jay Soni said he could not recognise me when he saw me in Beyhadh. I was hoping for this. While working on my body, I also honed my craft. I would do riyaaz, modulate my voice and body language. I wanted that people should notice immediately after my comeback and thankfully, that happened. Internalising Samay You really needed to believe in Samay for that role to come out well. In fact, I was so into him that I did not need to re-read the dialogues. Beyhadh is an unforgettable journey for me. My fave scenes are when I cut my finger to avoid putting on Saanjh’s ring and when I kiss the tissue thrown off by Maya after she

Jennifer – A dream co-star I used to be always in the character of Samay on the show. I remember there was this two minute scene between Jennifer and me. Later, the production told us that it would be a 20minute scene and the dialogues were being written on the set. So, we were looking at each other with no words being spoken. Jennifer and I decided to improvise on it. After it got edited, we had a footage of 22 minutes, which was used on the show. The best part of working with Jennifer was that she was delivering her best. In acting, it is all about give and take. I was September 2017 | Global Movie

Mumbai: top 5 forts in Maharashtra that are on our 'must see' list

With monsoon playing the perfect host, this might be a good time to trek to some of the forts of Maharashtra. We pick our top five

Takmak

If you're looking for a breathtaking view of a forest covered in haze, head to Takmak fort, located at Sakwar village, which falls under Thane District, approximately 22 km from Virar station. The fort stands on a steep hill about 2,000 feet high. Ken Agrawal of Unplugged Life, who organises treks, vouches for this one. "It gives the vast view of the plains below on either side, with the Vaitarna — Tansa confluence to our left towards the sea. What remains now of the fort is a few water tanks and two broken cannons," he says. The fort was built in the 12th century to safeguard the business route by keeping a watch on the activities which enrouted from Mahim. While the duration of the trek depends on your level of fitness, Agarwal says it should take about three hours to reach the summit. Getting Here: Take a train to Virar and then proceed to Virar Fada in a shared auto or state bus. From there, take an auto to Sakwar village (take the driver's phone number for your return journey, just in case there's no auto). The other option is to go in a private vehicle to Sakwar village. GRADE: Medium REGISTER AT: info@unpluggedlife.in

Ratangad Located amidst the beautiful jungles of Western Ghat, this fort is over 2,000 years old and overlooks Bhandardara, one of the oldest artificial catchment areas. "There are many rock cut water cisterns on the fort. It also has four gates Ganesh, Hanuman, Konkan and Trimbak. On the eastern side of the fort are two caves, which can be used for overnight stay," says Sarfaraz Baghdadi of Treks and Trails, a city-based hiking group. Apart from the fort, which is 1,297 high, another attraction is the Amruteshwar temple, famous for its carvings, dating back to the Hemadpant Era, roughly from the eighth century. "There is a natural hole in the mountain top probably caused by wind erosion," he adds. The view of Bhandardara dam adds to the beauty. "It usually takes three hours each way and two hours to explore the fort. An overnight stay is possible at the caves, where villagers provide you with food and accommodation," he says. Getting there: Drive to Ratanwadi village using google maps or get down at Kasara station and hire local jeeps, easily available. You can also board the state transport bus going to Bhandardara and hire jeep from Shendi village. GRADE: Medium LOG ON TO: www.treksandtrails.org

Rajmachi Fort Rajmachi Fort is one of the many historical forts in the rugged hills of the Sahyadris. Rajmachi Fort consists of two twin fortresses, Shriwardhan Ballekilla and Manaranjan Balekilla, with a wide Machi (plateau) surrounding the two Balekillas. "The machi of the fort is huge. Historically, Rajmachi fort was a strategic fort to control Borghat (the Ghat between Khopoli and Khandala on Mumbai-Pune route) which was a historical trade route," says Sarfaraz Baghdadi of Treks and Trails. GETTING THERE: Once you reach Lonavla station, trek to Udhewadi, a tiny hamlet at the southern foot of Manaranjan Bale Killa of Rajmachi Fort. It will take you four hours of trekking to reach Udhewadi base village. GRADE: Easy LOG ONTO: www.treksandtrails.org

Korigad Korigad Fort is perfect for those looking for a splendid view of the Sahyadri hill range. The fort is located near Peth Shahpur village, 25 km south of Lonavla, Pune. "Fortunately, the walls of the fort are still intact, and you can even circle around the fort. There's a temple of Korai Devi and six bombard cannons, of which five are small. The largest one is located near the temple. There are two lakes near the fort. They are always filled with water except during summer," says Ken Agrawal, who recommends this for beginners. GETTING THERE: Pre-book a ticket on an Express Train from Dadar station to Lonavala Railway Station. Proceed to Peth Shahpur village in a shared taxi or bus. GRADE: Easy LOG ON TO: info@unpluggedlife.in

Bhupatgad Bhupatgad is situated in Jawhar Taluka, Thane District, and is rated as one of the best places for a one day trek. "The fort is in a deplorable state. There are two doors, one from the north and the other from the south. However, you can still see some of the remnants of the fortification," says Akshay Mulye organiser of Aasamant, a Borivli-based trekking group. "You can also visit the palace built by Raje Yashwant Rao Maukne. It is a masterpiece in pink stone," he adds. GETTING THERE: You can reach Jawhar through Mumbai via Manor road. About 17 km away from Jawhar, is a village named Zapp that leads to Chinchwadi, which is merely 10 minutes away. An hour-long walk from here will take you to to the top of the fort.

HOLLYWOOD

Is Martin Scorsese involved in a movie about The Joker?

Consider this a fairly odd news story. In fact, it might be the oddest in some time. Yesterday, word spread throughout the web that a film about DC super villain The Joker was brewing over at Warner Brothers. Yes, the clown prince of crime is getting his own spinoff. Now, that could sound pretty cool on its own, but this is coming off of Jared Leto showing up to mostly indifference in the underwhelming Suicide Squad, all while DC and the WB figure out what to do with their superhero universe. Wait until you hear the details though, as they just might blow your mind. Apparently, the powers that be have Martin Scorsese on board to produce this Joker tale, while Todd Phillips is co-writing a script with Scott Silver and eyeing the director’s chair. Your mind is blown, I’m sure. Scorsese involved with a comic book property? Phillips going from comedy to this? It’s all very strange. Moreover, it’s so much of a spinoff, Leto won’t be returning, with a new actor taking up the role. According to sources, it’s also going to be an 80’s set story, taking place in a gritty and hard-boiled Gotham City. Essentially, it ideally won’t feel like anything else that’s come before, feeling more like something from Scorsese’s gangster world of yore. At its core, this is an origin story though, so make of that what you will.

I’m not sure which part of this is odder, re-casting Leto, potentially having Phillips shepherd this project, or Scorsese producing. We’ll get to Marty later, but first, let us discuss Phillips. Why him? Well, maybe he and Silver pitched something so good that Warner Brothers is going to let him see his vision through. They’re in the Phillips business already, so corporate synergy could be at play. He’s a workmanlike director though, so he’ll really have to up his game in order to execute this in the way it needs to be handled.

Another bungled DC outing could make this universe an outright laughingstock. For those wondering, here is how I would rank Phillips’ work (not counting his documentaries) so far: 9. The Hangover Part II 8. The Hangover Part III 7. School for Scoundrels 6. Due Date 5. Starsky and Hutch 4. War Dogs 3. Road Trip 2. The Hangover 1. Old School In terms of who might play The Joker, that’s anyone’s guess right now. Depending on how young they go, there are tons of options. As an origin story, DC can tinker with just about anything they want to here. For one candidate, might I suggest Will Poulter? He was very nearly Pennywise the Clown in the It remake and recently terrorized in Detroit, so he’s kind of perfect. Who knows if Poulter is on their radar or not, but in this writer’s humble opinion, he’d be the right choice. Casting might not happen for a while though, so you’ll have to sit tight.

Netflix continues to branch out with “Death Note” There’s a notable difference between the types of projects that Amazon and Netflix have been putting out, theatrically speaking. On the one hand, Amazon has been gunning for awards and embracing a theatrical release with things like the Oscar winner Manchester by the Sea. There’s also their burgeoning relationship with an auteur like Woody Allen. It’s a whole concerted effort under their Amazon Studios wing. On the other hand, Netflix has gone for casting a wider net, while only occasionally putting their higher profile films out in theaters, like Beasts of No Nation or this year’s Okja. They only once in a while look at things with an awards type view. So far, they’ve either come up short with would be players like War Machine, or seen things like Beasts of No Nation snubbed. This week, Death Note hits as the latest major Netflix release. It won’t be gunning for Academy attention, but it’s a high profile flick. Too bad it’s nowhere near as good as it should have been. This movie is an adaptation of the Japanese manga of the same name. It follows bullied student Light Turner (Nat Wolff), who comes into possession of a strange and powerful notebook, one with the power to end life. Essentially, any name he writes in the book will be killed. There are a ton of rules, only some of which he pays attention to. As Light begins waging a crusade against those he finds to be evil, a secret society dispatches L (Lakeith Stanfield) to find out who is behind the deaths and to stop it. As cool as it sounds, I’m sure the original handled it better. Adam Wingard directs a script from the team of Charley Parlapanides, Vlas Parlapanides, and Jeremy Slater. The supporting cast includes Willem Dafoe, Paul Nakauchi, Masi Oka, Margaret Qualley, Shea Whigham, and more. Atticus Ross contributes the score, along with Leopold Ross, while cinematography is by David Tattersall.

product, but in remaking this for American audiences, much was lost. There’s nothing here to suggest why this was such an interesting project. It’s a shame, really. This could have been something just wild and audacious. Instead, it’s little more than just a disappointment. Going forward, Netflix should continue to try and acquire interesting material like this. They just need to figure out a way to make the final products better. Then, they should focus on actually giving them theatrical releases. When they have efforts that are worthy of awards and nominations, that won’t likely happen until voters see them actually trying in that regard. The movies will do some of the work, but Netflix needs to do more than just throw money at the campaigns. As much as they probably won’t like hearing it, looking to Amazon and Amazon Studios will do them a great deal of good. Starting on Friday, audiences have multiple options when it comes to potentially viewing Death Note. Fans of the original could be driven by curiosity, though this is almost undoubtedly an inferior version. Likewise, fans of Wingard who might have initially felt that this was right up his alley will find themselves at least a little bit let down by the final product. Still, if you have a Netflix account, it’ll be right there for you in a few days. It certainly isn’t worth heading out to theaters to see, but right at home? Then, the choice is yours. Act as you see fit here… If you’re interested, check out Death Note this weekend, in theaters and streaming on Netflix!

Honestly, this film is a real mess. There’s a ton of potential here, talent in front of and behind the camera, but so little of it fully works. The performances are too broad, the tone wavers constantly, and there’s no effort to really make anything truly fit. I fully believe that the talented Wingard and company are fans of the September 2017 | Global Movie

Celebs with really bad breath As much as we'd like to think of glamorous stars as practically perfect, it's a fact that at the end of the day they're just like us‌only richer. While their wealth often means they can afford nice homes, the best plastic surgeons, and pricey personal trainers, some celebrities still struggle with an all too common mutual enemy, halitosis — a condition better known

as bad breath.

You may shudder to think of your favorite star or starlet as offending everyone around them every time they talk, but it turns out certain celebrities are known for their funky breath.

Ben Affleck

Forget Kryptonite! Word on the street is that Ben Affleck only needed to open his mouth and breath on Superman to deliver the fatal blow in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The rumor of Affleck's halitosis problems has been around for years, apparently dating back to Forces of Nature co-star Sandra Bullock. According to The Telegraph, Bullock complained about the leading man's bad breath. A Fox News article claims multiple female co-stars have complained of Affleck's bad breath over the years. The common link seems to be hapless actresses who were contractually obligated to complete kissing scenes with him despite his awful breath. Talk about suffering for your craft!

Jennifer Lawrence A-list actress Jennifer Lawrence is either highlyinconsiderate or an epic prankster. These seem to be the only two possible explanations when it comes to Hunger Games co-star Liam Hemsworth's hilarious complaints about having to kiss her during filming. Hemsworth said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that Lawrence would always eat the sort of foods that gave her nasty breath whenever she had a kissing scene with him.

Britney Spears

Unfortunately, Britney Spears' bad breath rumors may be tied to unhealthy fad dieting. According to a report by PopCrush, Spears underwent an extreme diet to make sure she was camera-ready during her time as an XFactor judge. How extreme, you ask? Try a meager 600 calories per day! It's worth noting the average adult is expected to eat between 1,600 and 2,400 calories per day, with 2,000 calories as the typical average. Regularly consuming less than 1,000 calories is considered dangerous and can have some pretty nasty consequences. Yes, that includes bad breath. While Britney Spears may have felt the slim waistline was worth it, those around her seemed to suffer the consequences. One source even told PopCrush her breath would be smelly again within twenty minutes of brushing her teeth.

We're going to trust that when Lawrence isn't making her co-stars weep over her eating habits she keeps her mouth clean and pristine.

Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom's estranged Kardashian in-laws have had some not too nice things to say about the retired basketball player's breath. During Season 7 of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim complained to sister Khloe about how Odom's icky breath made it difficult to get physically close to him. It was so bad, Kim claimed she was ready "to throw up in her mouth" every time she went to hug him! No doubt it was a relief for the most famous Kardashian sibling when things between Khloe and Lamar Odam went south. There's no word yet how Kim feels about Tristan Thompson's breath, but we can only guess it's a marked improvement.

Jason Segel

Jason Segel's bad breath was an unfortunate side effect caused by his addiction to smoking. It was a problem for actress Alyson Hannigan, who played his wife on the TV show How I Met Your Mother. Hannigan, who is a non-smoker herself, apparently declared she would not go anywhere near Segel unless he quit smoking. Given the two were set to play a loving couple on their show, you can only imagine how such a situation would complicate things.

Johnny Depp

“[Alyson Hannigan] left me with no other option. So I quit the day we started working, and I haven't had a cigarette since." We'd like to think that in addition to his overall health, Jason Segel's breath smell improved dramatically as well.

Despite being a heartthrob for decades, Johnny Depp seems to have no love for personal hygiene. A source told Fox411 that "he rarely showers" and doesn't consider hygiene a priority. Suddenly, Depp's enjoyment of repeatedly portraying a dirty pirate over the last decade makes sense. Bad breath rumors would also make sense, thanks to his previous smoking habit. The combination of poor overall personal hygiene and cigarette smoke would certainly make it likely that Johnny Depp's bad breath problems are as bad as people suggest. However, as Us Weekly reports, Johnny Depp came to his own defense in February 2016. "When I met people they said, 'You do look like a hobo, but you smell really good.' And goddamn it, I smell really good!" September 2017 | Global Movie

Angelina Jolie She may be one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, but apparently A-lister Angelina Jolie's breath is anything but dazzling. To get an inkling, her now estranged husband Brad Pitt once gave her breath mints as a Valentine's Day present. A source close to the couple told Us Weekly the gift was a sort of insidejoke, as Brad Pitt repeatedly teased Jolie about having terrible breath. While some might consider the gift somewhat rude and no-doubt embarrassing thanks to the news leaking to the tabloid, the Jolie story is a pleasant reminder that it's possible to find someone who'll love you for who you are — stinky breath and all.

Jessica Simpson

Not only did Jessica Simpson confuse tuna and chicken, but apparently the blonde bombshell has also failed to grasp the importance of regularly brushing her teeth. According to ABC News, Jessica revealed during an appearance on the Ellen show that she might brush two or three times per week. What's her reason? Apparently, she really hates that "slippery" feeling that teeth get when they're super clean. Instead of routine brushing, she gets by with a combination of Listerine and daily flossing. Simpson also chews on Nicorette gum, despite being a non-smoker. While Simpson insists this habit guarantees she has fresh breath, not only is this inadequate protection against halitosis, but as one doctor warns, her bad habit could endanger her dazzling smile! Sally Cram, a periodontist and American Dental Association consumer advisor spokesperson, told ABC News, "The biggest risk she faces is losing her teeth. You need to remove the plaque and bacteria that build up under your teeth and gums at least every 24 hours." Failure to do so can lead to tooth decay.

Hugh Grant

The Academy Awards are supposed to be the biggest night in Hollywood, the one night stars are supposed to look — and smell — their very best. Yet a report by The Guardian claims actor Hugh Grant literally stunk up the joint with his terrible breath. During the 2002 Oscars, Grant's bad breath was reportedly such an issue that his fellow A-listers begged him to do something about it. Apparently during that same ceremony, Grant's friends gave him mouthwash to gargle before stepping on stage. We can only hope being so embarrassed on such a big night will encourage him to take his bad breath issues more seriously.
