The public health authorities, the epidemiologists and the CDC and all those individuals involved in healthcare continue to recommend limiting travel and gatherings and all those things and we know that at the county, people are tired of hearing that stuff but I think it’s a great time to look back over the last year and realize how much we have to be thankful for and then celebrate with our immediate family

and do the best we can to get 2021 started right,” said Kutscher. County officials say despite the holidays, they will continue to monitor the positive COVID-19 cases in the area. Those reports will continue to be updated on the Guadalupe County Emergency Management Office’s Facebook page or on the city and county websites.

Wear a mask

Attending a Winter Holiday Celebration

Wear a mask with two or more layers to stop the spread of COVID-19 to protect others and yourself. Wear your mask over your nose and mouth, secure it under your chin, and make sure it fits snugly against the sides of your face. Wear a mask indoors and outdoors. In cold weather, wear your mask under your scarf, ski mask, or balaclava. Keep a spare mask in case your mask becomes wet from moisture in your breath or from snow or rain.

In addition to following the steps that everyone can take to make the holidays safer, take these additional steps if attending a gathering to make your celebration safer:

Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you

Indoors or outdoors, you are more likely to get or spread COVID-19 when you are in close contact with others for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. Remember that people without symptoms or with a recent negative test result can still spread COVID-19 to others.

Have conversations with the host ahead of time to understand expectations for celebrating together. Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups, utensils, and condiment packets. Wear a mask indoors and outdoors. Avoid shouting or singing. Stay home if you are sick or have been near someone who thinks they may have or have been exposed to COVID-19. It’s okay if you decide to stay home and remain apart from others. Do what’s best for you.

Gather virtually for a gift exchange or activity

Schedule a time to meet virtually to open gifts together.

Born in Luling, Texas, February 5, 1925, she was the fourth of six children of Vera Spellman Brantley Abbey and Roy Brantley. Her formative years were spent in small towns in Central Texas, before moving to San Antonio, where she graduated from Harlandale High School. These interests continued in college at Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College (now Texas State University), where she was honored as a Gaillardian.

During the course of her career there, she became widely known as an innovator for her development and implementation of a curriculum for college bound students. Family vacations and travel were always an important part of her life, and she particularly enjoyed trips with her three sisters, and driving out west with her husband, Woody. Glenna and Woody celebrated nearly sixty-four years of marriage before his death in 2011. After Woody’s death, she moved to assisted living and later Memory Care in New Braunfels. A faithful singer and soloist in church choirs for many years, she retained her beautiful soprano singing voice until near the end. Half of U.S. States Prioritizing Minority Communities in COVID Vaccine Rollouts

(Undated) -- At least half of all U.S. states are prioritizing minority communities in their plans to distribute COVID-19 vaccines. According to The Daily Mail, 25 states are focusing on African-American, Latino and Indigenous people as the next in line to receive the vaccinations. This comes after the CDC recently advised every state to consider racial and ethnic communities as critical and vulnerable groups. At least 12 of those states also say they’re working with healthcare providers in areas with a large minority community, so they can reach more diverse populations. Arizona Reports 7,748 New COVID-19 Cases

(Phoenix, AZ) -- Seven-thousand-748 new COVID-19 cases and one new death are being reported today in Arizona. A report by the Arizona Department of Health Services shows the state is seeing a continued increase in the number of cases and percent positivity. There are now more than 460-thousand confirmed cases and close to eight-thousand coronavirus-related deaths in the state. Hospitalizations also continue to climb despite seeing a dip on Saturday. Fauci: “Santa Has Been Vaccinated”

(Washington, DC) -- Don’t worry kids, the coronavirus can’t stop Santa Claus from

coming to town. The nation’s top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said Santa has been vaccinated on a “Sesame Street” town hall with CNN. Fauci is telling kids on the nice list that Santa won’t leave them disappointed in what has been a tough 2020. He’s not making the same guarantee for kids on the naughty list. COVID Cases Force Closure Of Amazon Warehouse Distribution Center In NJ (Robbinsville, NJ) -- Rising coronavirus cases are why an Amazon warehouse distribution center in New Jersey is closed. The warehouse in Robbinsville, just outside of Trenton, will be shuttered until December 26th. A statement from Amazon says the positive cases at the facility involved asymptomatic people. The closure comes right at the tail end of the holiday shopping season with many more people buying things online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Governor Cuomo Wants All UK Flights Tested For COVID-19, British Airways Agrees (Albany, NY) -- New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is calling for all flights into JFK Airport from the United Kingdom to be tested for coronavirus. The governor is citing his concerns over the “new strain” scientists say they’ve identified. Cuomo indicates that British Airways has already agreed, but he wants Virgin Airways and Delta to do the same. The governor adds the state will take action of some kind if the two airlines don’t agree voluntarily. Cuomo says he believes the new strain has already arrived, and made a comparison to this past spring, when COVID-19 first arrived. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the new strain is 70-percent more contagious, while it’s believed right now the vaccine would still provide protection.
