Grade 1 | How We Organize Ourselves

Grade 1 students are learning about the different roles and responsibilities of people in a community. The Unit of Inquiry has helped students discover several roles they represent as well as the responsibilities within each role. The unit’s central idea is that everyone in a community has roles and responsibilities. The three lines of inquiry are: the people and places in my community, how community helpers serve their community, and my role and responsibility in my community. The students were able to give Show & Tell presentations, which were inspired by Max Lucado’s Ivan’s Hat story. The guest speakers helped explain their specific roles and responsibilities in their respective workplaces. The unit’s enduring understanding is taken from 1 Corinthians 12:12&14

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
