It is so good to see that an ever increasing number of spa operators are looking at more than just physical and wellness treatments. They are now focussing on the total person and mind, with body and soul therapies, perfectly adapted and professionally supervised. So many spas promote that they treat the total person, but sometimes this is just very superficial. Still others have ‘therapists’ who do not have the proper training and credentials to perform the published treatments. The holistic approach means addressing the whole person on all levels – looking at lifestyle, family, work and diet to find the cause of the problem in order to bring about a complete recovery where possible and to prevent a further recurrence. As holistic practitioners say: ‘Our bodies reflect what is going on in our lives. Every ache, every pain and even accident is a symptom indicating an area of our lives where we need to pay attention and even possibly make changes. As we think, so we become, therefore, as we have become so we can see how we have been thinking. By listening to what the body is trying to tell us we can heal the cause and subsequently, the effect of the problem.’ One should look at ones body like it were the black box on an airplane, recording every

emotional experience. It’s a fact that, once body and mind are out of balance, it is reflected in the immune system and we become susceptible to illness. And if we accept and understand this process and work with it, the healing begins. There are so many breakthroughs in massage, nutrition, meditation, healing, and restorative technologies that prevent and reverse the effects of ageing and modern living. We all know we live in a toxic world. And whilst we’ve also accepted that there simply is no ‘anti-ageing' technology yet, ‘better-ageing’ detox treatments, exceptional skin care, advanced nutritional support, advanced massage, healing techniques, and guest education in a private relaxing environment are topics with are addressed in the outstanding spas of some of our HoteliersGuild member properties featured in this special edition.

After a steam bath, the peeling will pleasantly stimulate your entire body and soul, thus concluding the cleansing process. SYLT FEELING Take a foot-bath in the blue lagoon, followed by a foot peel using North Sea sand, and Pino lemon and mint oil. This is followed by a full-body skin peel using a raw silk glove, and a stimulating massage with Venus clams. The massage continues with an invigorating, cooling gel that is placed over the whole body to simulate the freshness of the sea. Finally, the treatment closes with a revitalising facial massage that uses small clams to provide soothing warmth.

Back in 1954, 17 businessmen, mostly American and with a few British, Canadians and Bermudians, fell in love with Jamaica and were compelled to invest in the country and her people. THERMALCURES ROMAN BATH

Consists of alternating cold baths (18ºC-35ºC), warm baths (36ºC37ºC) and hot baths (37ºC-40ºC) in the five Roman thermal pools. Duration 40 minutes

THERMAL BATH

A treatment with your choice of jet, surround or mist showers, in addition to the healing bath in mineral medicinal water. Duration 50 minutes

COMPLETE VICHY SHOWER

Exfoliating and moisturising treatment in a linear shower with a micro-massaging effect which is extremely relaxing. It also has a stress-releasing effect which promotes blood circulation and relaxation. Duration 50 minutes

SCOTTISH SHOWER

A “circular”shower with sulphur water at different temperatures. Duration 10 minutes

FOUR HANDS VICHY SHOWER

A complete Vichy shower with a four hands massage under the sulphurous waters of the Carratraca spring. Duration 50 minutes

JET SHOWER

Treatments with blasts of water (cold, hot or alternating) stimulate blood circulation in specific areas of the body, and so are especially effective for people with circulatory problems, sleep disorders or muscular strains. Water at different pressures and alternating or progressive temperatures are used to achieve cold-hot contrasts (vasoconstriction vasodilatation) with the aim of generating especially relaxing reactions in the body’s muscles and aiding circulation.

THERMALWATER SPRING The renowned medicinal mineral waters, with sulphur and calcium. The waters are taken in baths, hydroponics cures and inhaled. Carratraca’s waters are generally acclaimed by their reinvigorating effects on the immune system and by its main component’s detoxing power: the sulphur. THE COMPOSITION OF FOOD

Distinction has to be made between nutrition and feeding. The act of eating food is called nourishing the body. Renowned for the Potato Head Beach Club, the PTT Family is to open The Katamama (translated to ‘what mama says’) in Bali in December 2015.

The 58-suite boutique hotel is located on one of the parcels of land in Seminyak, the island of Bali’s most prestigious oceanside region.

The hotel has been designed with the idea of ‘home’ in mind, therefore every facet of the property has been personally d e s i g n e d a n d c re a t e d b y Indonesian craftsmen, utilising the dying arts and artisan practices that are unique to the area.

Renowned Indonesian architect and long-term PTT Family collaborator Andra Martin has designed The Katamama, with interiors a result of a partnership between the owners and Singapore based design company Takenouchi Webb. Contemporary design elements pay reference to the Balinese

lifestyle, and the craftsmanship of the area will be represented in the use of Indonesian materials such as Balinese brick, teak, handmade tiles from Java and terrazzo made on site.

With only 58 suites, The Katamama is intimate whilst oﬀering some of the largest living spaces of any hotel in Bali. The suites will be filled with curated artwork, handpicked furniture and cherished collectables, many of which originate from the owener’s personal collection. All suites will feature outdoor space in the form of balconies, secluded gardens or individual pools.

One unique feature of the hotel will be the 268m2 one-bedroom penthouses. These two storey suites oﬀer internal access to a rooftop garden with oceans views, a spa bath and rain shower, as well as dining and lounge areas complete with an exclusive bar. Meanwhile, the presidential Penthouse suite

houses two bedrooms and a completely private rooftop garden with picturesque ocean views.

Ronald Akili, one of Indonesia’s leading entrepreneurs, has undertaken the project, which will be the first of three hotels to be built on the Bali beachfront. The second project, The Kataoma – collaborating with world-renowned architecture practice OMA, headed by Rem Koolhaas – will open in 2018 with The Katamama Canggu following shortly afterwards in 2019.
