STANLEY KUBRICK Why? I picked up kubric because his movie has a fairly specific look like strong visual style with heavy emphasis on symbolism. I personally like movies which are intense and unusual stories. I got intimidated by his two giveaways that are his incessant use of the one-point perspective, reflextions, the dream like quality of the movie and an extreme close-up shot of a character with his head down and intensely emotional. And what makes his movies distintive is his experimental nature of getting something done which might not be the best of him. What’s their story and about their work? His story styles are criticized for coldness, that also have cult followings who appreciate precision and fastidious detail. They are devoted to their art in a way (often tackle controversial social themes) that sometimes causes them to withdraw from society, become reclusive. His films, which are typically adaptations of novels or short stories, cover a wide range of genres, and are noted for their realism, dark humor, unique cinematography, extensive set designs, and evocative use of music. Most of the times the narration structurally split into two distinct halves, most likely to mimic the nature of duality in the characters of his films. Symmetric image composition. Often features shots down the length of tall, parallel walls, pans horizontally. one source of light, plays with lights and shadows, modern props, mirror shots, wideangled shots and using fast and slow motion for narration.

MORE ABOUT FEDERICO FELLINI Significant facts The term “paparazzi” comes from a character named Paparazzo in his film, La Dolce Vita (1960), who is a journalist photographing celebrities. Feature Film: 8½ 8½ is about the struggles involved a famous Italian film director, Guido, who is suffering from “director’s block”. Guido’s psychic processes are expressed in the film through the psychological framework articulated by Carl Jung, whose psychoanalytic theories greatly interested Fellini at the time of the making of 8 ½ . He is keenly conscious of the viewer and want to make a film that make viewers more conscious of their own psychic processes. Stalled on his new science fiction film that includes veiled autobiographical references, he has lost interest amid artistic and marital difficulties. As Guido struggles half-heartedly to work on the film, a series of flashbacks and dreams delve into his memories and fantasies; they are frequently interwoven with reality. It is, in a larger sense, about finding true personal happiness in a difficult, fragmented life. Some elements that connects to different part of the timeline of the story are entrapment, glass, smoke or steam, the hostile or derisive eye, sun, cape, sound of strong wind, rope, and water. Influences Many current filmmakers such as Tim Burton, Woody Allen, David Lynch, Pedro Almodovar and Terry Gilliam have claimed to have been influenced in their work by Federico Fellini.

A Biography of Italian Director. He was born in the Italian coastal town of Rimini in 1920 and as a young man made a living drawing pictures and writing gags. The latter activity lead to a job on the editorial board of a magazine, which allowed him to make close connections with other artists as well as people from the film industry. A highly personal and idiosyncratic filmmaker, Fellini’s films often combined the intimate and personal with baroque, flamboyant and even surreal imagery, usually with an underlying layer of absurdist humour. He has reign supreme by delivering various highly influential pieces of cinema and left an indelible mark on the history of film. Federico Fellini ranks amongst the filmmakers held in the highest of regards within the world of cinema. So much so, that adjectives like “Fellinian” and “Fellinieque” (a style of filmmaking where dreams and reality are perceived as one experience )have been devised to describe certain characteristics closely associated with the Italian master, both in cinema as well as in art in general. He has won five Academy Awards throughout his career and holds the record for most Oscars for Best Foreign Film in the history of the Academy.

FEDERICO FELLINI FILM FESTIVAL

Mr. Thomas Robertsen

Janurary 10, 2016

1161 Mission St., San Francisco, CA 94103.

Dear Mr. Thomas Robertsen, ‘Symphonic Dissonance’ is one of the largest events to take place in San Francisco, bringing many individuals from neighboring communities. This event would not be possible without your generous support. This past year we achieved the goal to have an even better sound system and state of the LED screen for better film resolution at the event. The film festival will be held on March 17th and will include a music festival component preceding the main event the with student and adult bands. In order to have such a successful event, we need to raise a significant amount of money. As many of you are aware, the benefit dinner auction is our biggest fundraising event. As a business or individual, your support would be very much appreciated as a sponsor and/or advertiser in our festival program (information enclosed). With your sponsorship you are able to reach a large local market through extensive PR, with over 40 press releases a year, social media, displayed marketing materials distributed throughout the community, on our website and app. Please contact us at: info@symphonicdissonance.com to let us know about your donation or visit our website at www.symphonicdissionance.com for more information about Symphonic Dissonance Fest.
