Look Good Feel Better stopped her from facing cancer alone, and helped her regain confidence
ULIA, an English teacher and mum of two from Cardiff in South Wales, first noticed a lump in her breast back in 2017 whilst living in Beirut, but was told it was “just a cyst” and nothing to be concerned about. It wasn’t until August 2021, after Julia returned to the UK, that she noticed the lump had grown, and received the devastating diagnosis of Breast Cancer. In a bid to make the best of a bad situation, she reached out to Look Good Feel Better to help her feel less alone. “I heard about the Look Good Feel Better workshops a couple of months after my diagnosis,” she said. “I was interested in the skincare and makeup workshop, but I wasn’t going to attend as I had an allergic reaction from my chemotherapy medication, which made my eyes swell and my skin break-out. I didn’t think they would be able to do anything to help me, but I decided to go along anyway.” Immediately Julia had no regrets, adding, “It was perfect timing. I was helped

by the kind volunteers who showed me how to disguise my allergic reaction and I could not believe how I looked. I felt that I could face the world again. It was also so lovely to meet people in the same situation who were dealing with similar issues to me. We all left the session feeling more confident and smiling.” Julia is now awaiting surgery and is looking forward to getting back to work and spending time with her two daughters.
