SIP AND SEW DC
We're sipping, we're sewing AND partying! Come join us for Sip and Sew DC's day party where you will learn basic sewing techniques to complete a project while listening to your favorite music and enjoying a glass a wine. The music will have you rocking your way through the event! All materials included plus two complimentary glasses of wine. No experience necessary! Class is from at 3pm - 7pm. BEGINNER SEWING 1 Entry level class for true beginners. Students will learn to make a pillow, tote bag and pull on pajama bottoms. Emphasis will be placed on machine operation and reading a pattern. Winter Session 1: January 19, 26, February 2, and 9, 2019 10pm - 1pm Winter Session 2: March 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2019 10am - 1pm Class Fee: $145
BEGINNER SEWING 2 This class is designed for students who have a basic knowledge of sewing or have taken our Beginner Sewing 1 class. Students will make two shirts and build the following skills: buttonholes, collar, sleeves and cuff. Winter Session 1: March 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2019 10am - 1pm Class Fee: $145
BEGINNER SEWING 3 Students will learn to construct and assemble a skirt and a pair of pants. Emphasis will be placed on inserting a zipper, hemming, fitting, construction, buttonholes and top-stitching techniques. Winter Session 1: January 26, February 2, 9, and 23, 2019 10am - 1pm Class Fee: $145
INTERMEDIATE SEWING 1 Sewing an evening gown or any formal attire can seem intimidating, but no need to fear! Bring your dress to life by learning some tips and tricks of the fashion industry. You may choose your own pattern and fabric for this class. Sewing experience is required. Winter Session 1: February 10, 24, March 3, and 10, 2019 9am - 12pm Class Fee: $145

OW P ED NCSD TA U YD IPOA R T Y P & SE Need help finishing a project? This is the class for you! Open studio is for students who need extra help with unfinished sewing projects, alterations, zippers, buttonholes or any other sewing techniques. Schedule: January 16, February 6 and March 6, 2019 Class Fee: $50

SEWING PALOOZA We all have them, and we all need to get them done. This will be the night where you can bring in your sewing project(s) to complete or work on in an exciting sewing environment! This is not a class but you can come in and use the sewing machines, notions and space. Schedule: February 1 and March 29, 2019 6pm - 11pm Event Fee: $20
DESIGN SERIES Led by Mama Afia Nson Bonsu, this series focuses on traditional and contemporary African design techniques without the use of patterns. For advanced beginning seamstresses and above. DESIGNER CHILDREN'S CLOTHING Learn design and construction techniques to create unique, one of a kind clothing for children. January 26, 2019 2pm - 7pm Class Fee: $65 WEARABLE ART This workshop will teach students how to transform a simple garment into a work of art with Adinkra stamping, mud cloth paint and more! March 2, 2019 2pm - 7pm Class Fee: $65
SIP AND PAINT ON SILK Led by master silk artist Diane Tuckman, you will learn the basics of silk painting while creating two samples and a silk scarf. You will also observe a demonstration by Diane, who produces wall hangings, silk scarves and has co-authored four silk painting books. All supplies included including 100% silk fabric and two glasses of wine. February 16, 2019 1pm - 4pm Class Fee: $65
SPECIALTY CLASSES WORKING WITH FUR Learn how to work with fur, tips and tricks for pinning, cutting, and sewing while completing a vest and/or hat. January 6, 13, and 27, 2019 9am - 12pm Class Fee: $140 KNITTING BASICS Learn the basic knitting techniques -- the knit and purl stitches -- and use them to create a scarf or other rectangular projects, such as a washcloth or pillow cover. You'll learn the basic mechanics of knitting: how a series of interlocking loops creates a strong, elastic fabric. January 18, 25, February 1, 2019 6pm - 9pm Class Fee: $140

CORSET MAKING Just in time for Valentine’s Day but there’s nothing like a corset to give you that perfect hourglass figure. In this class we will construct a basic boned corset from start to finish. Sewing experience required. January 23, 30, February 13, and 20, 2019 6pm - 9pm Class Fee: $145 INTRO TO PATTERNMAKING Have you ever wanted to create your own patterns that fit perfectly? In this class, students will learn the fundamental steps used to create basic patterns and the flat pattern drafting techniques required to manipulate shape, style and fit. Students will complete two paper patterns. Beginner & above. February 22, March 1, 8, and 15, 2019 6pm - 9pm Class Fee: $145 FAUX-LEATHER CLUTCH ONLINE CLASS Can't make it to our studio? No problem! Learn how to make a faux-leather clutch during our online course. No experience necessary. February 23, 2019 2pm - 5pm Class Fee: $50 BOMBER JACKET CONSTRUCTION Create your own personalized bomber jacket. Style it in a variety of ways using fabrics such as brocade, denim or leather. Stitch or iron on patches or add embroidery to elevate the look. Advanced Beginner & above. March 13, 20, 27, April 10 2019 6pm - 9pm Class Fee: $145 KUSTOM SHOES Back by popular demand! Customize a pair of old or new shoes with African fabric and paint! Bring a pair of sneakers, heels, or boots and customize them to your liking. March 16, 2019 2pm - 5pm Class Fee: $50 CROCHET 101: MESH OVERLAY In this class, students will review basic crochet stitches and learn to follow a written pattern while making a stylish mesh overlay top. Some experience recommended, but not required. March 23, 30 and April 6, 2019 2pm - 5pm Class Fee: $140 CRICUT 101 It’s time to take your cricut out of the box and put it to use! This class will go over how to use your Cricut to create beautiful cards, decals and more. March 23, 30, April 6, and 27, 2019 2pm - 5pm Class Fee: $145 MACHINE QUILTING If you’re tired of turning your quilt over to someone else to finish, then it's time to learn how to learn to machine quilt using your domestic sewing machine. This class will teach you techniques and machine quilting designs that will help you confidently finish your quilting projects. Sewing experience required. March 24, 31, April 7, and 28, 2019 9am - 12pm Class Fee: $145
