SEWE will host more than 80 artists in the Fine Art Gallery in The Charleston Place. Ryan Kirby of Boone, North Carolina has been chosen as the 2023 Featured Artist. Kirby is well respected in the wildlife arts genre and known in the art community for his ability to recreate candid and captivating moments from the great outdoors. The Gaillard Center

The Charleston Gaillard Center’s superior performance hall and event space will house SEWE’s live performances and outstanding local, regional and national artisans and craftsmen.

BUSCH WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Busch Wildlife Sanctuary will introduce wonders of the natural ecosystems and give SEWE attendees an up-close look at alligators, bobcats, foxes, birds of prey, snakes and much more.

FORREST GALANTE

As an American outdoor adventurer, television personality and wildlife biologist, Forrest Galante will entertain and enlighten SEWE patrons with live presentations. Galante hosts Discovery Channel’s flagship Shark Week every year, and now has multiple wildlife shows on the air, including Mysterious Creatures with Forrest Galante and Extinct or Alive.

The SEWE Marketplace at the Gaillard Center will feature a mix of creations by premier local, regional and national exhibitors including handcrafted furniture, clothing, woodworking, leather goods, jewelry, knife makers and more unique finds.

WINGS OVER WATER

Wings Over Water, a film co-produced by Ducks Unlimited and narrated by award-winning actor Michael Keaton, will showcase the importance of the Prairie Pothole Region of North America as a breeding and nesting habitat for birds. Wings Over Water will draw attention to this often-overlooked region and what it means for North American wildlife. After the showing, there will be a Q & A with the film’s producers.

NATIONAL MARINE MAMMAL

FOUNDATION

The National Marine Mammal Foundation, a nonprofit organization recognized globally as a leader in marine mammal science, medicine, and conservation, will screen films featuring conservation stories. There will be a panel discussion and Q & A with scientists and veterinarians following the film.

Richard and Dorothy Wheeler began collecting decoys in 1960. KIDS FOR CONSERVATION

Sponsored by Dominion Energy SEWE’s Kids for Conservation (KFC) program promotes wildlife and environmental conservation awareness for tri-county youth. JUNIOR DUCK STAMP ART CONTEST

Sponsored by South Carolina Ducks Unlimited Once again, SEWE has partnered with SCDNR and the US Fish & Wildlife Service for the SC Junior Duck Stamp Contest. Combining science and art, this program teaches K-12 students about waterfowl and wetlands conservation. Visit the library to view the 2022 winning Junior Duck Stamp artwork and SC “Best of Show.”

SHEEP AND DUCK HERDING DEMONSTRATIONS

Join Bill Coburn, Windy Knolls Farm owner and master trainer, as he showcases the fascinating world of the Border Collie breed’s herding instinct. Watch his collies artfully muster sheep and ducks through various obstacles with only a whistle and a few commands. See schedule for times.

DOCKDOGS® COMPETITIONS

Watch dogs of all breeds and skill levels compete in various water jumping competitions. “Waves” of competition will be held throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with finals Sunday afternoon. For more information or to pre-register your dog, visit dockdogs.com.

Managed by the South Carolina Bobwhite Initiative, this group of exhibitors is dedicated to reversing the decline of the bobwhite quail population and hopes to inspire property owners and managers, conservationists and wildlife enthusiasts to be a part of this once-in-ageneration challenge.

SEWE KID ZONE

Bring the kids! Children’s activities and games, pony and camel rides, an exotic petting zoo, inflatables, fun games, educational programs and more.

KID ZONE STAGE

The Kid Zone Stage will put a spotlight on various local authors and librarians, who will share stories inspired by nature and wildlife. Educational puppet shows will be hosted here, too.

CHARLESTON SAFARI CLUB ANNUAL GALA

6 - 11 pm, Wednesday, February 15

Join the Charleston Safari Club for their annual Gala, featuring an open premium bar, decadent food, live entertainment, raffles, a live auction and much more. Safari attire is requested and encouraged. This event benefits the Youth Outdoor Education Camp.

INTRO TO ARCHERY

10 am - 12 pm, Friday, February 17 Share the love of archery with your family at the beautiful Johns Island County Park. Bring the kids and learn basic archery instruction and practice your archery skills on both block and 3D targets. Archery equipment will be provided, but participants are also welcome to bring their own.

Map Your Day

SEWE has three continuous routes for ticket and badge holders and two VIP express shuttles for badge holders only. Shuttles are for your convenience but please note bus times can be unpredictable due to traffic. Many venues are walkable (see map). SEWE shuttles operate from 9:45 am through 30 minutes after close of show Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

SEWE shuttle is provided at no additional cost for SEWE ticket and badge holders during show hours.

We highly recommend using the free SEWE shuttle service. Ticket or badge required.

ADDITIONAL PARKING

Additional parking near Brittlebank will be available on February 18 & February 19 for a flat rate of $5. Follow signage on Lockwood Blvd. to the lot behind the police station on Fishburne Street.

RIDE SHARE

Parking is very limited in Charleston. Ride share and carpooling are strongly advised.

ACCESSIBILITY

PARKING REMINDERS

No parking allowed in the grassy areas in front of Brittlebank.

There will be limited to no parking at Brittlebank on Friday, February 17.

Handicap accessible transportation is available; please ask the bus service representative for assistance.

While leashed dogs are allowed at outdoor SEWE venues, furry friends are not permitted on SEWE shuttles.

COMBING THE CAW CAW WILDERNESS

1:30 - 3:30 pm, Saturday, February 18 Join a naturalist to explore some of the habitats of Caw Caw Interpretive Center. Eagles, turkeys, otters, waterfowl, and more are often observed from these trails. There’s no better way to learn about the wilds of the South Carolina Lowcountry.

2 - 4 pm, Saturday, February 18 Gather at the Garden & Gun offices in Charleston’s historic Cigar Factory for a spirited conversation about gun dogs and bird hunting.
