Animal Activities Advanced Dog Training
If you are familiar with AKC Techniques, and your dog knows basic obedience exercises, then this next level class is for you. Enjoy an advanced class that teaches a development of mutual trust and respect. We will focus on the AKC Canine Good Citizenship Program and an optional exam will be scheduled for the last day of class. Your dog can earn an AKC CGC Title!

Learn how to best communicate with your puppy and also provide an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other dogs. In classes aimed at earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Trail Ride: See Florida by Horse
Explore natural North Florida from the back of a horse. Visit Devil’s Den Springs, Cedar Lakes Reserve and Botanical Gardens. The ride leaves Two Hawk Hammock in Williston and passes through Cedar Lakes Reserve. After the ride, you are invited to see Devil’s Den Spring and meet all the creatures that make their home on Two Hawk Hammock Farms.

Beginning Drawing
Don’t be afraid to try—drawing is a skill that anyone can learn if you have the desire and discipline. Basic techniques will teach you “how to see”. Topics covered include: line, shape, texture, shading, and more. Advanced students may work independently w/ their own subjects and goals. Guidance and critique will be provided at each class.

Intro to Watercolor
This delicate medium often creates subtle nuances by accident rather then design. Armed with basic drawing skills, one will achieve an understanding of the interaction of pigments, water and paper to create light and color in nature. Ichetucknee/Santa Fe River
On this kayak/canoe trip, we’ll explore the 5 mile Ichetucknee River and 4 miles of the Santa Fe River. Beautiful limestone outcroppings, springs, excellent scenery and rich history make this one of Florida’s most famous rivers. For 12,000 yrs, these waters have quenched the thirst of Indians, Spanish missionaries and DeSoto’s conquistadors!
Introduction To Kayaking
This is an introductory class into the paddle sport of kayaking. Through demonstration and on-water instruction, you will gain skills and confidence to allow you to further explore this sport. Class includes the basics of self and assisted rescue. This involves getting in the water while wearing a personal flotation device and working with a partner to learn.

Wild Lore Of The Ocklawaha
On this kayak/canoe trip we’ll explore the fascinating and often quirky lore of some plants and animals growing along this wild, scenic river. Historic Gainesville Walking Tours
Melanie Barr has been giving local tours for over 20 years. She has written the histories of many houses and local buildings. She received the Matheson Award in 2010 for her contributions to historic preservation in Alachua County.
The Duckpond Neighborhood
Downtown Historic District
Learn the history of the Duckpond area and The Thomas Center (originally known as the Hotel Thomas). Completed in 1910 as a home for Major William R. Thomas and family, it was converted to the hotel in 1928. It was closed in 1968 and used by Santa Fe College until they moved west in 1973. The tour will include a walk to the Sweetwater Branch, now known as the Duck Pond.
This outing will focus on the history of the downtown entertainment district. The earliest buildings date to the 1880’s. Many of the most significant buildings date to the 1910’s and 1920’s, such as The Hippodrome, the First Baptist Church, and the Masonic Temple. Photos will be available to show how downtown has changed over time.

The Pleasant Street District
Historic Micanopy
This tour will showcase the historic neighborhood west of Main Street including the oldest African American neighborhood in Gainesville. It was centered around the Freedman’s Union Academy School and many early churches and commercial buildings were located here.
The oldest inland town in Florida will be showcased on this tour. We will visit the Micanopy Historical Society’s Museum, see the residential and commercial district, and view some significant objects from Micanopy’s past. Participants will learn about original uses, dates of construction and dates of alteration for some of the buildings.

Refunds
Community Education classes only. Seniors 60 years and older may have their registration fees waived for their classes if: 1) they register the first night the class is held - students who register before the class begins or register online will pay full price for the course; no refunds, no exceptions; 2) space is available in the class, and 3) the class has met the required minimum seats filled. The student must pay all lab fees or additional fees. Please check space availability by calling 352-395-5193 the day before, or day of 1st class. Some classes do not allow Senior Waivers.
You may drop a class and receive a full refund by calling the Community Education office DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION TERM for any class 2 weeks or longer in length. For classes shorter than two weeks in length, regardless of the week of the term, you must drop the class at least 2 business days before the class begins to receive a refund. After the first two weeks of the Community Education term, and once a course is in progress, you must fill out a petition for refund. Refunds are not automatic, and a legitimate reason must be stated. After the FIRST THREE WEEKS OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION TERM, only partial refunds will be granted upon approval. Full refunds will NOT be granted except in special cases.
Onsite Registration Call 352-395-5193 the day before, or day of 1st class to see if space is available. Classes without sufficient enrollment will be cancelled. Fees must be paid at registration by cash, check (made out to SF), money order, MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express. Cash CAN NOT be accepted at on-site registration for Community Education.
Outdoor adventure classes require additional lead drop time. You may drop an outdoor class/trip, but you must petition for a refund. The petition will go before a review committee, and if approved, you will receive a partial refund. NO PETITIONS WILL BE RECEIVED OR REFUNDS PROCESSED once the last day of the term has passed. Call 352-395-5193, Monday—Friday, 8am—4:30pm, if you wish to drop within the appropriate drop time.
Cancellation Policy Community Education reserves the right to cancel classes based on low enrollment or other causes. The student will be notified in advance, and a full refund will be provided. Refunds will not be credited to your credit card; instead, you will receive a refund check in the mail within 3—4 weeks.
