If you are familiar with AKC Techniques, and your dog knows basic obedience exercises, then this next level class is for you. Enjoy an advanced class that teaches a development of mutual trust and respect. Good citizen and AKC Community Canine titles can be earned by exam in this class.

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Class

Learn how to best communicate with your puppy and also provide an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other dogs. In classes aimed at earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction, you’ll be able to get info on all of your puppy raising questions including housetraining, chewing, and the most effective way to teach practical skills such as coming when called.

Beginning Dog Training

Develop a happy working relationship with your dog. Well trained dogs are a wonderful addition to any family. Discover innovative methods for communicating with your dog, with emphasis on instant response and attentiveness, encouraged by high motivation and praise. All basic obedience exercises are AKC oriented and geared for a great family dog, as well as competition.

Puppy Playgroup

Help socialize your puppy and get started on basic training in fun and positive ways. Together you’ll have fun playing and practicing recalls, sit, down, up/off, leave it and more; make training the best game ever! For puppies 18 weeks and under (must have received at least the 1st of the series of 4 immunization combos and lived in your home 2 weeks prior to class).

Horseback Riding

Horsemanship is both an art and a science. Madonna Bynum will introduce you to the skills needed to become a confident and safe rider and handler of horses. Join her to learn how to approach a horse confidently, groom, tack up, mount and dismount, seat and hand position and balance. This class is for riders of all levels. You will be riding in all 4 classes.

Trail Ride: See Florida By Horse

Explore natural North Florida from the back of a horse. Visit Devil’s Den Springs, Cedar Lakes Reserve and Botanical Gardens. The ride leaves Two Hawk Hammock in Williston and passes through Cedar Lakes Reserve. After the ride, you are invited to see Devil’s Den Spring and meet all the creatures that make their home on Two Hawk Hammock Farms.

Teaching Your Horse To Drive

Enjoy the sport of horse carriage driving where you can explore quiet, back roads or experience the thrill of competitive driving. This intensive workshop covers an introduction to basic harness identification, fitting, steps in schooling a horse to drive, lungeing, long lining, hitching and driving. Experience with horses preferred.

Repoussé is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. This course will introduce students to the basic skills and tools necessary for repoussé crafting. Students will complete an 8x10 picture frame at the end of course.

If you answered “Yes” to all of the questions above, keep going… • Can you use tools to find files? Do you understand subdirectory structures? Digital Photo: Shoot And Share

Southeast Historic District

Discover the Bed and Breakfast District which includes a tour of some famous buildings, including the Baird Mansion, now known as Magnolia Plantation Bed and Breakfast. This house, built in 1885, is a rare example of French Second Empire architecture in the state of Florida.

The Duckpond Neighborhood

Learn the history of the Duckpond area and The Thomas Center. Completed in 1910 as a home for Major William R. Thomas, it was converted to the hotel in 1928, closed in 1968 and used by SF College until they moved west in 1973. The tour will include a walk to the Sweetwater Branch, now known as the Duck Pond.

The Senior Recreation Center (SRC) is a state-of-the-art, 17,000 square foot recreation and activity center offering a comprehensive array of programs and services to meet the diverse needs of both younger Baby Boomers, and older seniors in our community. The SRC benefits include access to the following types of programs and activities: lifelong learning and education, health and wellness, social, nutritional, recreational, arts and cultural activities, and much more. The SRC facility also houses a library, game room, and computer lab.

Learn about the American Physical Therapy’s national campaign to help those over 50 stay mobile and prevent injury. Interview Refresher Workshop for Career Changers

Interviewing well for a new career is just as important as a polished resume. This workshop will focus on tips and strategies for age 50+ career changers who wish to interview effectively in today’s new workplace environment. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and role-play interview techniques.

Going back to school and earning a college degree or certificate paves the way to opportunities for new jobs and career advancement. Plus 50 career changers have different life experiences and educational expectations than traditional students. This class will focus on the founding of Gainesville in 1853 and its next 50 years. You may drop a class and receive a full refund by calling the Community Education office DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION TERM for any class 2 weeks or longer in length. For shorter classes, you must drop the class at least 2 business days before the class begins to receive a refund. After that, you must fill out a petition for refund. See website for refund policies. You will receive a refund check in the mail in approximately 3—4 weeks. Your credit card account will NOT be credited for the amount.
