WHAT IS THE PROGRAM The Pre-apprenticeship Ambassador Program is a summer program to provide general labor to the San Francisco Housing developments by DPW. The participants of the program will be employed by DPW to pick up trash from the beautification projects and perform general labor work at the SFHA’s development Thursday through Monday (including weekends) on a fulltime basis. They will also receive an introduction to department functions, learn record keeping tasks, prevent damage to the SFHA property and may receive additional training related to the program. Once the participants have completed the program, they will graduate to the City/County of San Francisco Journey level 7501-Environmental Service Worker. This position is unrepresented and receives direct supervision from an assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no supervision of staff. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION Under direct supervision, removes graffiti and assists in the removal of refuse and dirt from SFHA sidewalks, stairways, building frontages, parks, playgrounds, and other areas for reasons, such as; public safety, code compliance, health and beautification. The Pre-Apprenticeship Ambassador will perform the duties as follows:  Maintains SFHA property and related landscaped areas in a safe, healthy and attractive condition.  Assists individually, or as part of a crew, in sweeping and removal of litter in assigned areas; screening of sandboxes for glass and litter; depositing of debris in plastic bags for pickup; and loading of debris on various clean-up trucks such as pickups, flatbeds, dump trucks, and refuse packer trucks.  Applies paint for graffiti removal jobs on a variety of clean-up and graffiti removal jobs.  Assists in responding to specific service requests generated by the public, department or other SFHA agency.


   

Creates service requests by using a radio to report deficiencies they are unable to abate. Cleans surface areas around street catch-basins and drainage grates. Loads and unloads materials, supplies, and equipment on and off trucks in proper and safe manner. May assist in setting up traffic barricades and lights on work sites in a safe and proper manner. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
