Questions & Answers Public Housing 2012 Resident Advisory Board May 15, 2012 1. How many people are currently on the waitlist? There are approximately 27,000 families on the Public Housing waitlist and 11,000 families on the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist. 2. Would gunshots qualify as an emergency transfer under the new policy? Pursuant to the proposed policy individual circumstances will be reviewed on a case by case basis by the Executive Director or his/her designee for applicability. 3. Can transfer requests due to drug problems, vandalism, and verbal abuse be warranted as emergency? Yes. Emergency transfers will be reviewed on a case by case basis by the Executive Director or his/her designee for applicability. 4. Do the constant transfers contribute to the waitlist not moving? Yes, constant transfers are one factor in the waitlist remaining stagnant. 5. Would asthma be a sufficient reason to transfer? Yes. 6. What would the timeframe be for routine transfers under the proposed language? Routine transfers, under the proposed policy, would be moved according to need and availability. 7. What needs to be verified in order to be approved for reasonable accommodation? The resident may request a reasonable accommodation from the Housing Authority.
