*****FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***** DATE: APRIL 2, 2012 CONTACT MEDIA RELATIONS: 415-713-2178 HUD AWARDS THE SAN FRANCISCO HOUSING AUTHORITY MAJOR GRANT AWARD TO IMPROVE SECURITY AT SELECTED PUBLIC HOUSING SITES The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development is providing $250,000 for Special Security Measures San Francisco, California, The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Public and Indian Housing has selected the San Francisco Housing Authority through a competitive grant program to receive $250,000 to be used to enhance safety and security at Holly Courts, Alemany, Sunnydale, Westbrook, Ping Yuen, 227 Bay Street, Hunters Point, Hunters View, Alice Griffith, 990 Pacific, Rosa Parks Senior Center, and Robert B. Pitts Housing Developments. Among the physical improvements that the Authority is prioritizing include: exterior light improvements, security cameras, metal fence and gate modifications, emergency alarm systems, window bars, and deadbolt locks and doors. “In the many conversations we have with our residents and the greater public here in the City, we often hear requests for additional security features on the grounds of our properties. Obviously, identifying the resources for these expenditures is a challenge. With this announcement from HUD today we can begin to work with the community, our tenants’ associations, our law enforcement partners, our neighborhood watch coordinators, and merchants to finalize our determinations for this funding,” said Mr. Henry Alvarez III, Executive Director of the San Francisco Housing Authority. Dialogue with residents as well as implementation and installment of selected safety and security amenities will commence over the next fiscal year.
