SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Volunteers from San Francisco’s esteemed Rotary Club, the second oldest in the world, in collaboration with Life Frames Inc/Living Library Founder, Bonnie Ora Sherk are transforming the local community thanks to a special tree planting celebration on Sunday, March 11, 2012, in Holly Courts, the oldest public housing site in the City. This effort marks a transformation of the local neighborhood, as now 700 trees will be connecting adjoining properties to create a living landscape that features, drought resistant, indigenous trees that are not only well suited for the area but bring a welcome and much needed respite to Holly Courts, home to over 100 local families. Life Frames, Inc. Founder Bonnie Ora Sherk will be on hand to welcome city leaders, open space advocates, and residents. The Bernal Heights Living Library & Think Park, since 2002, is linking public housing, schools, parks, streets and other open spaces leading to the nearby Islais Creek at the south side of St. Mary’s Park “The goal of the Living Library & Think Park Nature Walk is to educate and connect folks to a sustainable, ecological environment, and highlight the importance of California Native Trees, the Islais Creek/Watershed,” said Bonnie Ora Sherk, Founder. Funding for the trees was provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Other city agency partners in this initiative include: San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco Department of Public Works, and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. Stephanie Ann Herrin, VP of Community Service for the Rotary Club of SF, lauds A Living Library for all of the landscape architecture, planning, and organizing. “It is a well established, turnkey project that

allows our members to go out and beautify our city by digging, and planting sustainable trees,” she says. “I love that in a matter of 4 hours outdoors a group of people can make a huge difference in the community.” FOR MORE INFORMATION GO TO: www.sfrotary.com
