HABITAT HACIENDA BUILD HOUSE

This classic Pueblo revival–style adobe is an all-electric, net-zero, grid-tied solar home. It features material donations from various local contractors and was built with the generous support of hundreds of volunteers from Santa Fe and around the country. Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity partnered with the Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association and its member contractors on the Hacienda Build to provide this unique home for a local family. This house marks the 134th affordable home constructed by Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity since the affiliate’s inception in 1987. The organization builds five to eight homes annually in partnership with local volunteers and families. Partner families receive zero-interest mortgage loans and comprehensive educational programming, which helps ensure their long-term success as homeowners and breaks the cycle of housing poverty for generations to come. Partner families invest in the building process through sweat equity hours, by which they also gain self-reliance and valuable skills. By investing time, resources, and expertise into the community, Santa Fe Habitat volunteers, donors, organizations, and businesses develop new relationships that extend far beyond the immediate impact of the build site. Habitat for Humanity envisions a world where everyone can access affordable housing, in communities with people from all walks of life, with varied skills and economic backgrounds. Together, those who work with the nonprofit achieve a common goal through service to others.

About the Builder: Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity promotes affordable homeownership for Santa Fe–area residents by constructing simple, adequate, and energy-efficient new homes, and by repairing or rehabilitating existing homes through the cooperative efforts of partner families, volunteers, donors, and staff.
