Canadian Sgt. L.E. (Vern) Turner was shot down over Germany during WWII on April 8, 1943. Shortly after parachuting to the ground, he was picked up by the Gestapo. Turner was the only member of his crew to survive.
Although Vern Turner never lived in Edson, AB (he is originally from Moose Jaw) his journal depicting his capture, imprisonment and release from Stalag Luft 1 Prisoner of War camp in Barth, Germany gives us a personal and uniquely Canadian look inside the life of a POW.
