MESSAGES
Following the success of the 7th Singapore Cricket Club Soccer Sixes tournament in January 2015, I am delighted to represent the committee once again as Chairman for 2016. The SCC International Soccer Sixes takes place on the hallowed Padang turf for its eight consecutive year on 4 and 5 June 2016. Nestled in the shadows of Singapore’s breathtaking city skyline on the best grass surface in Singapore, the aim of this competition is to highlight the many talents of Asian football and its promising young players; all within the format of six-a -side football. This tournament has evolved over the previous years and is now regarded as one of the marquee sporting events of the SCC as it continues in its aim to raise the profile and standards of Asian football, aided by the introduction of professional teams from around the globe.
Welcome to the 8th SCC International Soccer Sixes – Asia’s premier soccer sixes tournament! In 2015 our tournament brought together the perfect blend of youth and senior football. The tournament was a huge success with over 30 teams from various countries all taking part. It was also a year of ‘firsts’. In the Youth Cup, the Youth Football Home from Thailand was our first team to field both boys and girls and in the process were the first team to successfully defend the Youth Cup trophy. Kwarta FC, became the first Indonesian team to compete in the sixes, whilst the SCC Firsts finished as champions for the first time – defeating Kwarta in the final. In the Masters, Singapore legend Aleksandar Duric and Manchester United great, Lee Sharpe combined for the first time for the CLA All Stars. In doing so they became the first team to secure a hatrick of Masters titles.
It gives great pleasure to continue the organisation of the Youth Tournament for underprivileged institutions from around Southeast Asia and the support from the SCC Soccer Section is very humbling and appreciated in order for this tournament to be conducted. I give my sincere thanks to all parties that has made this tournament possible from the very kind sponsors for their belief and support, my fellow tournament committee members for all the hard work and time they sacrifice, the General Committee and the committed staff of the SCC to support the committee along every turn, the volunteers throughout the tournament and lastly to the participants and team representatives. Finally, a warm welcome to the SCC to the players and supporters and we wish you a great weekend of high level football coupled with a chance to share a beer or two with friends!
Owen Monaghan
Chairman, Organising Committee 2016 SCC Soccer Sixes Tournament
Looking forward to this year’s tournament I hope the unique setting of the Padang will inspire all of our participants to even greater heights of sporting excellence and friendship. The SCC’s late, great President, Mr. Michael Grice, was one of the original founders of the tournament and I am certain his passion and love for the game will be reflected on and off the pitch, throughout the weekend. In closing, I would like to thank all of those that have helped make this tournament possible. With all the hard work that Owen Monaghan and his team have put in yet again, I am certain that this year’s tournament will be even better than last year. It has been a collective effort from the SCC Members and well supported by all our sponsors. A big thank you to everyone that contributed. We look forward to another great SCC Soccer Sixes and hope to see you all, on or off the pitch.

SCC Firsts celebrating their win
Article by Owen Monaghan The 7th SCC Soccer Sixes saw an earlier start in the year than usual but this did not stop the success of this fantastic Tournament. A total of 16 Open,16 Masters and four Youth teams participated in a two-day fiesta of football with teams from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and Cambodia. With the assistance of Creative Lighting Asia, the Sixes Committee were able to bring ex Man Utd and Leeds superstar, Lee Sharpe as the 2015 celebrity, and he became an instant hit with the SCC members at the annual dinner. The CLA allstars team which included Sharpe, PJ, Singapore legend Alex Duric and SCC convenor Scott Starr went on to win the Masters Tournament against a star studded Club ITE team which had ex-Singapore internationals in Tong Hai Lim, Ratna Suffian and Sashi Kumar. The Open Category was a huge success and saw a superb entertaining finals between first time participants, Indonesian professional Kwarta FC played against the SCC First team. 10
8th SCC International Soccer 6s Tournament 2016
The finals had everything... goals, red cards, extra time and penalties! Thankfully, the SCC team managed to win the trophy after some superb saves by Angelov. A very important part of the Sixes is providing an opportunity for proverbial youth players from the region. And we saw the Bali Sports Foundation, Phuket Football Home, Muhammadiyah Welfare Home, Phnom Pehn Crown Club and Youth Football Home compete throughout the weekend. A big thanks to the families who had housed these kids over the weekend. Your time, effort and kindness is very much appreciated by the committee. Finally I want to say a big thank you to the SCC Staff, SCC General Committee, the Sixes Committee Members, the Section Members for their support and last but not least the Sponsors for this Tournament; most notably to Tony Singh from Weston Corporation, Glyn Vince from Slade Global, the SCC and Asia Pacific Breweries, Eddie Tang from Creative Lighting Asia and Dirk Paulsen from Melchers and Co. This could not have happened without you all. See you in 2016!

PHNOM PENH CROWN CLUB | Cambodia The Academy of Cambodia’s most successful club, Phnom Penh Crown Club, was established in February 2011 after nationwide trials in 17 provinces uncovered the best 22 young players, aged 13 and under, who became the first intake at the club’s full-time residential Academy – the first of its kind in the country. The senior team had won the Cambodian League title on four occasions and were runners-up in the AFC Presidents Cup in 2011. The Academy team has taken over their mantle at junior level in Cambodia, winning almost every domestic competition they have entered since their formation. In their first year, they returned from a six-match visit to the SCC Soccer Sixes Youth Tournament in June with a creditable third place. Crown also hosted and won the inaugural First State Gold Investment Cup which was televised live on national TV. July 2012 saw the Academy return to take part in the SCC Soccer Sixes, losing out in the final on penalty kicks. In May 2013, the youngest Academy players appeared in the Singapore Sixes tournament for the third time and with seven wins in as many games, scoring 25 goals and conceding none, they returned home with the Cup. The team also featured in the very first FAM-Frenz U-15 Asean Champions Trophy which involved teams from all 11 Asean countries. A fabulous opportunity for the youngsters to test themselves against the best of the region’s young hopefuls and despite finishing in sixth place in their group, the Academy gained invaluable experience from their participation. In July 2013, the Academy expanded to 32 players with the arrival of 10 new faces, all aged 12/13 years old. Every one of 16

the Academy players has represented the Cambodian national team at different age levels and 2013 saw them triumph as Cambodia Youth League champions, winning both U-15 and U-17 age categories. They returned to SCC in 2014 to defend their SCC Soccer Sixes trophy as well as to take part in the revamped Asia U-16 Champions Trophy. The Academy’s performance in the latter was a considerable improvement on the previous year, with the team finishing in third place in Group B. Their performance in the 2015 Asia U-18 Champions Trophy saw them finish in fourth spot in Group B. The Academy returns to SCC this year with the aim to repeat the victory of 2014. www.ppcfc.com

YOUTH FOOTBALL HOME | Thailand Youth Football Home (Phuket) Foundation is a registered charity in Thailand. Our aim is to establish a loving home for orphaned and destitute boys and girls. The boys and girls receive comprehensive education at good local schools. They also enjoy daily coaching and training from fully qualified coaches in the game of football. The Youth Football Home is built on 8 rai of land in the town of Thalang (about 150 metres from Wat Muang Komaraphat) on Phuket Island consisting of a dormitory home for 32 boys, a residential building for staff and a full-sized football field plus training areas. Construction began in October 2005. The dormitory and staff house were built and furnished by the beginning of May, 2006. The football field and the training areas were formed four months later. The first group of nine boys from Bangkok and the northern provinces arrived at our Home on the 11 May 2006, and were enrolled at the Thalangwittaya School in time to attend the first day of the new school year. Today, we have an almost full house with many of the boys selected from football camps held on our grounds. Youth Football Home has a full complement of qualified staff to look after the children. Under the supervision of a Thai Lady Guardian as Wardress, the staff includes two nannies, a cook and cleaning, security and grounds personnel. We have
a qualified football coach from Europe as the sports manager who looks after the boy’s training and development in football. In addition, British and German Ex-International footballers are periodically visiting the Youth Football Home and conducting coaching sessions with our boys. www.youthfootballhome.com
BALI SPORTS FOUNDATION | Indonesia The Bali Sports Foundation (BFS) was formed to improve the lives of children with disabilities in Bali and East Indonesia by using the power of sport and play for development, health and peace. Winner of two editions of the SCC Soccer 6s Youth Tournament, Bali Sports Foundation (BSF), a registered Indonesian charity, shows that through sport, those living with a disability can demonstrate their strengths and not be categorised and stigmatised because of it. In this regard sport can be seen as a stepping stone for those living with disabilities (and their families) to move from isolation in a karmic society like Bali, into the mainstream and also educate those who do not have a disability to understand that those that do, have rights that include being able to fully participate in society and not face discrimination. BSF firmly believes that sport has the power to change lives for the better, particularly for those living with a disability. www.balisports.com 18
