Publisher’s Point by Rob Patz
Welcome to the September Publisher’s Point here in SGN Scoops magazine. I want to tell you September is my favorite month, not just because of my birthday, but because of the fact that the weather turns cooler and we start football season! You know I love football! If you missed Christian Country Expo, you missed an amazing time of music. It was such a joy to meet some wonderful folks who have so many talents. If you want to be a part of it next year, be watching the magazine. We will be announcing the dates for Christian Country Expo 2016 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee very soon. We are on the countdown now to Creekside Gospel Music Convention. So many great artists and music; it is going to be an awesome time. Join us November 2nd through 5th in Pigeon Forge for Creekside Gospel Music Convention 2015. This month as I reflect on what has happened over the last six years, I realize how much God’s hand has been upon what we’ve been doing. Six years ago this month, we debuted a brand-new digital format for the magazine. It has been incredible to watch the growth over those six years, as the magazine continued to move forward, and as more and more people caught the vision of the technology and how they were able to read their favorite news about artists they love on their phone or tablet. The magazine has grown and I will tell you we haven’t looked back! I’m really excited about where technology is taking our magazine. There are some exciting announcements over the next couple of months that I will be able to share with you. Be in prayer for our staff and for me as we make some decisions about ways for us to continue to spread the good news of the Gospel through this amazing form of music.

A Letter From the Editor By Lorraine Walker
It is September and for many that means big changes! Although many have already started school, many more will be returning to the classroom this month. Others return to normal routines after a summer of more relaxed schedules. Church programs kick into high gear and Sunday morning pews are fuller. This time of year is almost more of a renewal than January and certainly much warmer for those of us in this area of the world. Have you thought about areas in your life that need renewal? Do you need more discipline in your spiritual life as well as your physical life?
scoops and leave a note for Rob on September 24! September is also the start of a new year for SGN Scoops as we begin our seventh year of our online digital magazine. There are more changes ahead but we always want to know what you would like to see happen here on the pages of Scoops. Tell us today! lorraine@sgnscoops.com

We have so many terrific writers, columnists and creative people that make up the SGN Scoops team. As my pastor says, “’Team work makes the dream work!’” That is a quote from John C. Maxwell, who continues by saying: “…but a vision becomes a nightmare when the leader has a big dream and a bad team.” Rob Patz certainly had a big dream when he took on the leadership of SGN Scoops. Fortunately, we’ve always had a good team and that is still true today. I urge you to go to the Contributors section at the end of the magazine and read about our team. While you are there, please pray for them. SGN Scoops keeps going through the consistent hard work of volunteers from the U.S. and Canada. Every month the team pours their talent and creativity into the magazine because of their love for God and for the music that promotes His love. Right now I would like to personally thank each
of those that contribute to SGN Scoops and make it what it is today. I look forward to working with each of you in the days to come, to keep aiming toward excellence. We are a team and some of you have become almost family. On a special note this month, my sister Joan who proof reads every word each month to ensure I don’t miss anything, went above and beyond the call of duty while I struggled with health issues. To Joan and Rob and the rest of the SGN Scoops team, thank you for all you do each and every month. I know that God will richly bless you for your unswerving dedication to Him.
Life Love & LEGENDS “Thankful for the Wills Legacy”
by lou wills hildreth “Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not His benefits” is my theme as I reflect on a life in gospel music that is still overflowing with God’s favor. A few days ago, a video of a song by the “Bob Wills Family” was posted on my Facebook page and received tremendous response. The fabulous comments from multitudes of friends filled me with thankfulness for the privilege of helping pioneer a gospel singing family who traveled the highways, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am thankful my brother Bob and his family are carrying on that gospel music heritage that began in 1938 when Pop Wills formed the first Wills Family Quartet with my older sister Rene and brother Calvin. I was included in the quartet, a ten-year-old alto who could read
shaped notes and knew every song by heart. I still love being on the platform. The twins, Bob and Betty, were born that same year and took their place in the family group at a very early age. In 1941, Pop and Mom and all of us kids moved from Texas to California seeking new opportunities to sing the gospel. In 1943 another Wills kid, Norma Jo, was born, destined to grow up singing with the family. Mom didn’t sing but she worked hard and supported our dreams. In 1944 we moved home to Texas at the invitation of Frank Stamps to attend the Stamps Quartet Music School and represent the company in our travels. We settled in Fort Worth, and this city remains home to the “Bob Wills Family” where Bob’s middle son, Don Wills, pastors First Baptist Church. Don sings with the family when his schedule permits, with Ron, Angel, and Bob. Oldest son Bobby Lee, his wife Annette, children Bethany and Landry are on the road full time across the nation, singing the gospel. My brother Bob is remembered by many for his male quartet “Bob Wills and The Inspirationals” in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s, featured on our nationally syndicated TV show “Wills Family Inspirational Time,” one of the first series to be taped in color. In 1976, Bob and his wife formed the “Bob Wills Family” and launched a song ministry that is still going strong. About three years ago, Bob began a weekly Friday night concert series at “Dove Creek Café” in Roanoke, Texas, in the Fort Worth/Dallas area. Many gospel music legends have performed there, as well as local talent. Bob’s

Gaither Vocal Band
Gaither Clan Relies on Teammates By Craig Harris
Latest additions to the Vocal Band are having “the time of their lives” Todd Suttles has a background in athletics. In fact, the Gaither Vocal Band baritone singer has been around athletes his entire life. Therefore, it’s not surprising that he has a unique way of referring to Bill Gaither. To Suttles, Gaither is “Coach.” “I’m part of a team now,” Suttles says. “I was a coach so long. I miss the coaching aspect of having someone you know who has the best interest for you and best interest of what is going on. “Bill coaches us. He coaches me through every song I sing. We put ourselves in all of these songs.” Suttles worked at Vanderbilt University for 21 years, serving as the strength and conditioning coordinator for all of the university’s athletic programs for nine years.“I coached for a while,” Suttles points out. “Being in the organization I was in at Vanderbilt, you see a lot people. “This is beyond … it’s a God thing. I have a brotherhood, a trustworthy aspect. It’s amazing that these
people are real. Bill is grounded. I know grounded people, how they treat people, how they think, how they make decisions. When he said, ‘Todd, I would want you on my team even if you couldn’t hit the ball’ … that was something. Adam is from Kentucky. I’m from Georgia. David is from Texas. Wes is really from Tennessee. We talk about everyday stuff. Heartfelt listening is what we do. How do we treat people? That’s one of the songs on the project … ‘Sow Mercy.’ It’s life-changing. It’s a positive aspect. Bill is teaching us on stage. He loves the people out there. Bill is an everyday person. He’s the same person on stage and off stage.” Gaither does have some athletic interests.“Bill loves basketball … the Pacers (Indiana’s National Basketball Association franchise),” Suttles notes. “We talk basketball.” Though he remained on staff at Vanderbilt after joining the Gaither Vocal Band, Suttles recently decided to step
away from that chapter of his life and devote himself fully to the group.“It was a little bit of a tough decision,” Suttles admits. “You go through and look at stuff in life. It’s choosing what to hold on to and what to let go of. I’ve been there 21 years. I have a thing called Camp Vandy (a youth program for children age 4-13). It’s great. It’s flourishing. “God is taking care of me. I wanted to choose this day who I’m going to serve. I’ve served Vanderbilt for a while. Now, I just feel like He’s leading me in one direction. I want to give everything I can to God. I’m giving my life.” There has inevitably been some restructuring due to the recent change.“It’s been an adjustment (time wise),” Suttles says. “It’s all about scheduling. I told Bill that God takes care of everything. It’s all worked out. I’ve worked two jobs for a year and a half. Now, I’m going fully music. I’m letting God lead me and see where God wants me to go. The real reason for us to be here is to spread the good news. I’m leaning and depending on God. He takes care of us. I want to be available.” However, Suttles’ groupmate – lead singer Adam Crabb – hasn’t slowed down … yet. Crabb has intentions of eventually scaling back some of his extensive schedule of solo appearances, but that hasn’t been the case since he joined the Gaither Vocal Band early in 2014. “Being a part of this has put me in a place to where someday I’m going to be able to do that,” Crabb explains. “I go out every weekend. I love it. I love doing
the solo thing. I love doing the group thing. Bill allows us to go out and do that. “To me, I’m with one of the greatest groups out there today. Vocally, they are incredible. You hear that saying, ‘living the dream’ … that’s what I’m doing. It’s great to have my name out there with David (Phelps) and Wes (Hampton) and Todd and Bill. Then, I get to go out and share my heart. It definitely is the best of both worlds.” With Suttles joining the group at approximately the same time as Crabb, they have handled the learning curve together.“When we first started, we listened to songs together,” Crabb remembers. “Todd is such a great soul. He has a great heart. “All of the guys have been very helpful to all of us. Wes is an incredible singer. He knows every song, every harmony part, every lyric. It’s amazing what that man knows.” Suttles adds, “We help each other out. David and Wes are amazing. They’re like our brothers. We trust them for anything they say. They just lead us. David is so funny. His humor is amazing.” Both Crabb and Suttles covet the camaraderie that the five group members share.“I’ve never been on the road,” Suttles says. “I’ve heard horror stories about how groups do, how people take separate buses. We get on the bus, and everybody knows where everybody’s little spot is on the bus.
“I’m learning as it goes. We talk about our families. That’s what I need. It’s like brothers.” Crabb was a little more familiar with road life having traveled extensively with his siblings as part of the Crabb Family. “First of all, it’s been incredible,” Crabb emphasizes. “It’s been a great journey so far. Coming into it, I was very anxious and nervous at the same time. I didn’t know really know what to expect.
learned a lot through the whole process. Now, as far as a group, we’re getting to a place where we’re comfortable. We’re having fun. We’re just blending and enjoying that time. “I’ve learned a lot from Bill. I didn’t know Bill was such a genius as far as music goes. He’s first class. To be a part of it is amazing.” Suttles echoes those sentiments in regard to “Coach
“We get along so well. That’s one thing that blew me away. Coming into something of the caliber of the Gaither Vocal Band, you never know personality-wise what they are going be like. I didn’t know David that well. I really didn’t know Bill that well, but they’re all amazing people. I love being a part of that group, and I feel like the better days are ahead.” Suttles adds, “It’s the heart aspect. I’ll get a text (message) … saying, ‘I’m thinking about you,’ or, ‘I’m praying for you, man.’ You get on the bus and get the biggest hug you’ve ever had in your life. It’s like a battle. We are spreading the gospel. (The music) draws you in to give you the good news.” While Crabb had been in and around the Gaither Homecoming Tour and artists, he’s seeing it from a different perspective now. “I’ve been around Gaither, but to be a part of it is so much different,” Crabb points out. “I’ve
Gaither.” “All of the Homecoming thing … we’re just soldiers,” Suttles says. “Bill is led. We don’t know what we’re going to say. He’s led. It’s heartfelt. That the thing I’m most excited about … the heart.” Crabb’s growth as an artist has been evident, not only to himself but to others as well. “I really do feel like I’ve grown,” Crabb acknowledges. “The other day, my twin (Aaron) and I … we were singing at church together. He said, ‘This is your season. Your voice has really grown.’ I’ve had several say, ‘you can tell you have been around the Gaither Vocal Band.’ “The way you sing changes. David is a teacher. Bill is a teacher. I feel like I’ve grown, but I still have a long way to go. It’s made me a better lead singer and a better harmony singer. It’s helped me to understand what a great lyric is. I really feel like I have grown, but I’m nowhere (as far as) where I want to be yet.”
That growth took place, despite some early reservations. “Any time God puts you somewhere, it’s a place of growth,” Crabb explains. “Through that, you have to go through some tough times. I remember when I first came in, I thought, ‘I’ll never be able to do this. I’ll never remember all of these lyrics. I’ll never remember all of these harmony moves.’ I challenged myself. I told myself that I can. I can do all things through Christ. That’s one thing I love about Bill. No matter what door God opens, know (that) he puts you there for a reason. That’s what I look at. If I wasn’t good enough, I wouldn’t be there. I do feel like I’ve grown as a singer. I finally feel like I’m in a place where I belong where I’m at. I’m just very excited.” Suttles may be the poster child for excitement. “I’m having the time of my life,” Suttles emphasizes. “What makes me most excited is that it’s God’s move. It’s God’s will … and I’m in the will. I feel like I’m in the will. Where else would you want to be? I could be making millions of dollars, but it doesn’t matter if you’re not in the will.” One specific thing that Suttles is excited about is the Gaither Vocal Band’s upcoming Christmas project. “The Christmas project is going to be … Phelps is killing it,” Suttles points out. “It’s amazing. It has Mark (Lowry) and Guy (Penrod) on it. It has the best renditions. I’m excited. It’s just … wow. I get excited. “We have Phelps. We have Wes. They are singing in the ceiling of things. On stage, I get so excited … you have David, Wes, Adam and Bill, and Bill is still the best singer on the stage. He just loves music. When they sing, it fills my heart. When they are singing, I can see that they mean what they say.” Crabb shares in the excitement about the Christmas project. “It was a blast,” Crabb says. “It was snowing pretty good when we started cutting that album, so, it felt like Christmas time.
“We’ve done several different recordings, but this record came together so well. To me, it’s my favorite stuff we’ve done so far, probably the most challenging stuff. Everybody, you can tell they are growing vocally. I think our fans are going to love it. David put another touch on it. His arrangements are crazy. One of my favorites is ‘(Little) Drummer Boy.’ It’s probably my favorite arrangement of this song, and David did a phenomenal job on it. It was a lot of fun doing this record, a lot of hours in the studio, but I think our fans are going to really appreciate it.” Suttles has his favorites as well.“David sings ‘O Holy Night,’ but this ‘O Holy Night,’ he sang the screws off of it,” Suttles explains. “When I hear it, I imagine David standing in his barn on a Christmas Eve thanking God for sending His child when nobody is around. It sounds like he takes himself totally away from everything and is standing in his barn. It’s like he’s giving praise. “They did a version of ‘Mary Did You Know’ that is crazy. Bill pulls the best. These songs … every one is a praise we send out.” “Sometimes It Takes a Mountain” – which is the title cut on the Gaither Vocal Band’s latest project – is another of Suttles’ favorites. “‘Sometimes It Takes a Mountain’ … it gets me,” Suttles points out. “I’ve seen a lot of mountains. I understand what that’s like. I understand what it’s like to be on a mountain. “I look at the faces (at concerts). The faces tell a lot. Some look like a prune. Those are the people I love to sing to … to deliver an understanding about a song. Those mountains come to make me strong. I’m thankful for that. We’ve all been there. When you see a person that’s broken, it speaks loud. I want the message to go out.” Both Crabb and Suttles have had to adjust to the additional visibility since joining the group. “I’m starting to see that (the notoriety) some now,” Crabb admits. “I still
get recognized a ton just from the family days. I have noticed since our new DVD came out and has been on TV, I will run into people who will say, ‘I just saw you on the Gaither DVD the other night.’ It’s crazy to me how much people do see and recognize. If I go into a restaurant, I get recognized. At the hospital the other day with my dad (Gerald Crabb), we were recognized. It’s
cool. It’s a great feeling to know your music is out there touching people and know that people still care and appreciate what you do.” Suttles adds, “I just do normal stuff. We just talk and go through (life). I’ve coached NFL (National Football League) athletes. I’m used to being around people who are known faces. I get recognized, but I know Who I’m representing. I want to be able to talk to them about (God). You hear the people and the stories and why they believe and how this music has changed their lives.” Suttles’ eagerness to communicate and invest in people has been ingrained. “I grew up on a little farm in Georgia,” Suttles says. “We didn’t have nothing, but we had each other. My parents always taught me that, ‘no matter what, you treat people with the love of God.’ My momma always said, ‘I don’t care what they do, that is somebody’s child.’ The thing about God is that (He) reaches. We’re no better than anybody else. We’re all sinners saved by grace. It takes a while to get there, but once you understand that … “I want to see smiles on people’s faces. That’s the thing I love most about being with the Gaither Vocal Band. I have more joy because of being with the Gaither Vocal Band. The joy of the Lord is our strength. People come to our concerts for strength.” Photographs by Lee Steffen
Midnight Prayer
“C an Yo u Handle It” Sharing the Gospel
By David Staton
I have always been amazed at the number of people who claim to be Christians who have never shared the gospel with anyone. Often times when you get into a lengthy conversation with them, they will usually admit that they really don't know how to do it. Many have asked me how I share the gospel with people, and when I tell them, I have had some of them tell me that they've never heard it explained like that. The sad reality is that some people have sat in church for decades and never really heard the gospel story. Whenever a social/moral issue is making the headlines, I watch the Church Community tweet and post their disapproval and disgust. Trust me, at times I'm as disgusted as anyone, but if we aren't careful, our focus
on the problem with no offered solution only builds a bigger wall between Christ and those still in need of a savior. So, how do I share the gospel with people in a world gone crazy? I never have to even try to steer a conversation in order for politics or religion to come up. It always does. When it does, folks will usually tell me that they don't go to church or that they just don't believe the Bible is accurate enough to rely on as a source of truth. First I have to establish why I believe that the Bible is not only accurate, but is the only source we have for truth. I will let them know that from a historical perspective, I would have to disagree with nearly every major world historian who has said that the Bible is by far the most accurate historical document ever written. Then I will tell them that if the history is that accurate,
then the prophecies contained in that book have to be just as sure. As a matter of fact, there aren’t that many more prophecies left to be fulfilled. According to the prophecy in the Bible, things are about to get really bad on a global scale. Because of the historical accuracy, Jesus did exist. What He said and did changed the world and forces everyone to make a decision. This isn't fiction; this is reality. They always want to know what the Bible says, so I always welcome the questions. I don't always have all of the answers, but this is why studying to show yourself approved is so important. One of the most common questions I hear is, "I thought God was a God of love. How could He allow so many people to go to hell?" I remind them that God did not create the road to hell, mankind did through disobedience. God's original intent was for us to never die and for earth to be a paradise for us to enjoy forever. If we had done nothing but obey, we would have never known about how a holy God deals with sin. Many times I'll hear people say, "So all it takes for me to go to hell is for me to do nothing?" I love what Adrianne Rogers said once. He said that it's much harder to go to hell than it is to go to heaven. It's a much harder journey because in order to go to hell, you'll have to cross a river of tears that your parents, grandparents and Christian friends and family cried over you. Then you'll have to climb over a mountain of prayers that so many have prayed for you to be saved. You'll have to ignore every sermon you've ever heard and the unopened Bible that sits on your shelf on your way to hell. And finally, you'll have to cross Mount Calvary and crawl over a bloodsoaked cross believing that it meant nothing on your journey to a place called hell. One of the biggest misrepresentations of the gospel being taught today is what I call the one-sided gospel. It's the part of the gospel everyone wants to hear. God loves you, you are valuable and loved more than you know, God is for you. Phrases like these are all over social media and while they are true, out of context of scripture, they are sometimes misleading. Whenever Jesus offered grace and forgiveness, there was ALWAYS a charge for them to repent and change their ways. If Jesus had only told the woman at the well that He loved her and that she was special to God, He would have validated and accepted her sin. Did He love her? Absolutely! He loved her enough to let her know that He knew the details of her sin. He loved her enough to let
her know she was lost and actually needed forgiveness. Do you think she would have been sincere in her acceptance of His love and grace if she had gone back and continued shacking up with various men? God's grace, although undeserved and freely extended to all mankind, demands our total surrender. There is a huge spotlight on homosexuality in our society. I have seen many social media posts from church people who are quick to state that this is an abomination in the eyes of God. Few have posted or shared the rest of the story. Is homosexuality an abomination to God? Absolutely! In the book of Proverbs, there are seven sins that are listed and I can guarantee you that we are all guilty of at least one of them. As a matter of fact, the Bible says that all seven abominations are found in the heart of a gossip. Wow! My point is, we are all guilty and in the same boat. That boat is headed toward a waterfall that will be catastrophic for those in the boat. I explain how Christ came and suffered on the cross, not just so we would know He loves us, but so He could transform us out of what we are and into Who He is. Everybody likes being in the boat. We are comfortable in the boat, not realizing where it headed. But here is where God's grace intervenes. Every now and then, the cross drops in front of the boat and stops it. We have an incredible opportunity to step off of the boat and be rescued. Then I look at them and say, "Do you know what just happened? The cross just fell in front of the boat! What are you going to do?" God loves all of us. The cross declares His love over and over. The question is whether or not it moves you enough to get out of the boat? So can someone come to Christ and still find their identity in their sin? In other words, can someone come to Christ and still identify themselves as a homosexual? No. No more than someone can come to Christ and say that they are a liar, a thief, a murderer or an adulterer. That is why we are crucified with Christ so we can lose our old identity and be reborn as a redeemed child of God! My friends, that is the gospel that the world needs to hear! So if you have experienced the grace of God, don't just point and condemn the sin, or just say something as generic as, God loves you. Share the gospel!

YOUNGErPERSPECTIVE Josh Horrell
BY ERIN STEVENS Psalm 100:2-5: “Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.” (NKJV) A word from the writer… This month, I found no better way to begin our time together here in the world of Younger Perspective, than with that excerpt from Psalm 100. I know it’s a passage most of us are quite used to reading, but today, may we look at it with fresh eyes and a new perspective. It gives me great joy to introduce Joshua Horrell to you all. He’s becoming a familiar face in the industry, but I knew you’d like to get know the owner of those tenor vocals a bit better. Without further ado…take it away, Josh! Erin: Long before Adoration Quartet, I understand that your family was on the road. What’s the story behind how your family’s ministry began, and also, what was your involvement in the group? Joshua: I started out at the young age of three years old with the Biney English Family Ministries, as my mother was a part of that group. I was very active in the setting up and tearing down of the sound equipment. I sang “Giver of Life,” and “My Dearest Jesus,” on stage nightly with my Uncle Biney and recorded my first song, “My Dearest Jesus,” in the year 2000. I started traveling and singing with my Granny, Janice Horrell, in the Horrell Family around 2002. I continued to travel with them until I graduated high school and moved to Nashville in 2011. Biney English Family Ministries and the Horrell
Family are still on the road today. Erin: While growing up in a musical home, at what point did you feel the call to ministry? Joshua: I’ve been singing since I was able to talk; it’s all I’ve ever known. Being called into the ministry was something that happened very early on for me. It’s just something I’ve always known I was supposed to do since I sang my first song.
IErin: Being the co-owner of the group, share with the
Erin: In no specific order, who are your top five favorite tenors in Gospel music?
Joshua: Adoration formed in 2001, but after several years shut down for personal reasons. When Chris, Corey, and I started singing together again, we felt the Lord calling us back to this ministry and we formed Adoration Quartet back at the beginning of 2014.
Joshua: Jay Parrack, Steve Ladd, Chris Allman, Michael Booth, and Wes Hampton.
readers how Adoration Quartet came into existence?
Erin: Some people may not know that you’re related to Michael English. What’s the familial connection and how has he been an inspiration to you?
Erin: It takes about two clicks on your Facebook profile to know you’re an avid Disney fanatic. Favorite park? Ride? Character? Food? Dessert? Fireworks display? Go!
Joshua: I am not blood related to Michael English, but by marriage. His brother, Biney English, is married to my mother’s sister, Beverly. Therefore I consider Michael my uncle. Michael English is from the area where I was born and raised. I have always looked up to him and listened to his music and was inspired by his singing abilities, along with the places where God allowed him to go. Erin: For anyone who follows you on Instagram, it’s no secret how important your four-legged buddy is to you. Does Pongo ever come along on the road? Joshua: Unfortunately, our group’s means of travel is not convenient enough to accommodate Pongo, but I have a friend who stays behind and takes care of him for me. Erin: What’s the wackiest thing a fan has ever said to you? Joshua: Well, usually the pastor or whoever is in charge of the service will say something like, “Don’t forget to stop by the product table and take the guys home with you.” Of course, he’s talking about our CDs, but I do have those sweet, little old ladies who will stop by and ask if they can actually take me home!
Joshua: My favorite park is Magic Kingdom. My favorite ride is Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom. I have ridden that ride more times that I can count. From an outside ride followed by an inside ride, Rockin’ Roller Coaster is a close second over at Hollywood Studios. Favorite character, none other than Mickey Mouse himself. Favorite food and dessert are from the Be Our Guest restaurant. Favorite fireworks display is definitely Fantasmic. Erin: It’s become a ‘Younger Perspective’ old standard: what is your can’t live without, must have, all-time favorite food? Joshua: I can’t choose because I love to cook and grill out. Erin: As you cover thousands of miles every year, what are some key reasons why you love being a roadie? Joshua: The biggest and key reasons are seeing souls saved, changed, and made whole again. Obviously that in and of itself is a spiritual phenomenon to watch take place, that only God Himself can do. I’m just so thankful
that He uses me to be a small part of it. Erin: The older we get, the more we realize that life is just a vapor. That being said, what kind of legacy do you want to leave behind for the generations to come? How do you want people to remember Joshua Horrell? Joshua: I want people to remember me for more than just a tenor singer. I want people to remember me for my heart and for allowing God to shine when I am on stage and for people to see Him and not me.

This life is but a fleeting breath, a passing moment. It’s up to us to make the most of the time each one of us is allotted. I, for one want to make the most of what Christ has given me, as I know Joshua agrees. Let’s be the men and women who constantly are pointing people back to Jesus. Isn’t that what it’s always been about? He is the reason we have a song to sing. May our testimonies speak, may our lives be an example worth following. Dare I pose the same question your direction, dear readers…how do YOU want to be remembered? Until next month, Scoops fans… And that’s my take on it. Comfort My People By Dr. Jeff Steele
Take a quick look at Isaiah, chapter 40... Here Isaiah has been telling the people of Judah for quite a while that, “The Assyrians are coming, the Assyrians are coming! Get your house in order and make sure everything is ready because they are coming to overrun our country.” Now however Isaiah has changed or tweaked his message. He tells them that they will escape by the hair of their chin-e-chin-chins from the Assyrians, but will in fact be overrun instead in the future by the Babylonians. It is the classic scenario that says, “I have some good news, I have some bad news.” This nation was in turmoil and Isaiah knew how to pronounce judgment. After all he has pretty much just spent the previous 39 chapters doing just that. Now in the midst of all that, he opens chapter 40 with God telling him to comfort His people. In fact God says, “Isaiah, I want you to speak comfort to Jerusalem.” One of the real dilemmas that I face as I go to the pulpit every week, is the very real fact that there are hurting, broken people in the congregation that need to be comforted. As a preacher of the Gospel I have to ask myself every week when I finish preaching: Was there anything in my message today that would offer comfort to hurting people? Dear preacher (and a lot of you read these notes), I don’t care how articulate you are or how loud you holler when you pronounce the latest judgment on the people, you must always ask yourself the question: Did I offer hope to the hurting in my message?
I didn’t ask you if you won the argument. God never called us to win an argument in our preaching. He called us to win people! I’ve heard a lot of winning arguments but I’m not hearing a lot of life changing sermons that offer comfort to the broken hearted. Someone has said that if you preach to the brokenhearted you will never lack for an audience. Just because you don’t know about them doesn’t mean they’re not out there. This past Sunday I looked out over the congregation and saw a man recovering from surgery and a mother who just found out her son was being deployed to Afghanistan. There was a sister with an alcoholic brother who was “drinking again” and a man who just witnessed his brother being committed to an institution so he could “dry out” and try again to beat his addiction. One lady recently had gone through a terrible divorce and is now a single mother trying to raise three kids and make both ends meet in the middle. I could go on and on about the people I was preaching to who needed comfort! II Corinthians 1:3 describes God as “The God of all comfort.” That same God expects His pastors to deliver that kind of comfort to His people. How does our preaching measure up on the “comfort meter?” God knew Judah needed comfort and He instructed Isaiah to “comfort my people…speak comfort to Jerusalem.” He has instructed us to do the same.

Chris Hester Bringing out the Country Flavor of Southern Gospel By Matt Baker
I’ve heard it said many times, regarding Christian music, that “nobody goes into the ice cream shop and only wants to choose from one flavor”. That line of thinking has some powerful truth to it. I personally enjoy various styles of Christian music. From Gospel music, to the old hymns of the church, to today’s modern worship music, if there’s truth in it, and if it lifts up Christ, and honors Him, I’ll probably be listening to it. I appreciate an artist who can put a unique spin on a style, and make it their own, and it brings me great joy to visit with an artist doing that very thing.
But first, we’ve got to make a trip to visit with our featured artist this month, Chris Hester, so for me, we’ll leave the humid, sticky weather of Lenoir, NC, where I live, we’ll skip over Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where some of our readers are this very moment, enjoying their favorite artists at the National Quartet Convention, we’ll zoom past Music City, Nashville, TN, and we’ll put the landing gear down in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, just north of Tulsa, where Chris calls home. By way of introduction, Chris tells us about the most important day of his life, the day he came to know the
Lord as his Savior. “It was a moment I will never forget”, Chris recalls.”At nine years old at a youth group “lock in” after a lot of recreational indoor games, fun and food, my Sunday School teacher called all of our youth group into the church sanctuary around 3:30AM. She sat down on the front of the stage, and began telling us that Jesus died for each of us, asked everyone to close their eyes and she was going to pray. Before she prayed she asked for nobody to be looking around, and for everyone who had asked the Lord to come into their lives to raise their hand. I couldn’t raise my hand; even though I had been raised in a Christian home, and my dad was a pastor, I had never taken the step to ask Jesus Christ to be Lord of my life and accepted Him. Shortly after her prayer, everyone went on their way to more food and fun. She stayed and prayed with me, It was THAT moment that I asked Christ into my life and gave my heart to Him at nine years old around 3:40 AM.” Chris’ ministry started early on, as a teenager, when he began playing piano for his church at 14 years old. Even at that young age, God was preparing him for his ministry now. “I went off to college right out of high school”, says Chris. “I met my wife, Kimberly in 1991 while on the road singing part time in college with a group called the ‘Praise Evangelist Team.’ We were married on June 20, 1991, and then moved here to Bartlesville a year later, where we still live today.” This led to a vital turning point in Chris’ launch of a solo ministry. “My wife had began teaching school, and we had planted a church, while I also worked at a bank. My wife was teaching a class that had a special needs student who was mainstreamed alongside 20 non-special needs students, which was discouraging for her to see.
I told my wife to hang in there, and that God had a reason for ALL things. Well, the mother of that student attended class with her child each day to assist with the student’s needs. Kim invited that mother and her family to our church, and the following Sunday they came. They told us that God had directed them to give to our ministry to help launch a solo album. I asked them how they knew it was the Lord directing them, and they told me that while I sang, they watched their daughter, with special needs, respond to the music. I was at a loss for words. Within a few months, we had cut tracks in Nashville, and by the end of 2004 we had finished the vocals. I was so blessed to be able to work with some of Christian music’s best in Nashville, like Kevin Ward, who produced the album, and have some great artists like Paul Lancaster, Joyce Martin Sanders, and Chip Davis join me on there as well. The Lord worked, and my first single, ‘Too Far Down,’ made the top 80 in the Singing News chart, and also received a Dove Award nomination. Shortly after the success of that single, we released a second single, and it did the same thing! Within a few short months, because of one seed planted by a family through my wife’s career, radio had embraced my music and my ministry. God truly works in all things!”
For many of our favorite Gospel artists, the weekends are long, but the weeks are just as long, as many of them have other business ventures that help provide for their needs, and help with the needs of their ministry. Chris tells us, “When you’re called into Christian music, sometimes you just get out and do it! The Bible tells us that Paul, in addition to his ministry, also was a
tentmaker. I sell real estate in Oklahoma as a licensed realtor. So, I guess if Paul made the tents, then I would sell them!” That makes for some busy weeks around the Hester household. “I’m also on the phone a lot with my publishing company, Song Pantry Entertainment, a division of BMI. I love getting to work from home as much as possible, and be with my family”. Chris’ family is his biggest support system, he says. “My family is so important to me. I haven’t traveled as much as I do now, since my kids were much younger then. My father recently retired from the ministry as a pastor, so I think I’ve got him talked into driving for me! I wouldn’t be where God has allowed me to be without such a great family, and a great support system. Also, within
my “family” and my support system are some great songwriters, who are mentors to me. People like Chris Binion, Nate Woodward, Sheri Lafontaine, and Ben Storie are just a few of them. They are great friends, but also great spiritual advisors to me, as well.” Chris, along with his writing, also produces as well. “Writing and producing have always come as a gift from the Lord to me, but it also comes with surrounding myself with the best people. I believe everything we do for the Lord needs to be our best. If He gave us His best, then why shouldn’t we? I enjoy every minute of being in the studio, learning all that I can, and making every album that I’m involved with be better than the one before.” An artist almost always has a sound that heavily influenced the sound they now have. Chris credits some of his biggest influences as The Hopper Brothers and Connie, more popularly known now as the Hoppers.
“My father booked them at our church in the late 70s, and as a child, on that front pew, I fell in love with Gospel music. After that, I developed a love for that sound. I started listening to the Bill Gaither Trio, and went onto be a great fan of the Gaither Vocal Band! And I can’t forget some of my favorites, the Rambos, The Happy Goodmans, and also the Hinsons! Right now, one of my favorites that I’m listening to are the Freemans. Darrell is still one of the most “original” male vocalists that Gospel music has. That man lives every minute of what he and his family sing about. I wouldn’t be on the road today if it wasn’t for him. My albums wouldn’t be what they are without the help of Chris Freeman, and Misty Freeman, two of the most talented ladies I know!” As most readers know, September means one of the busiest, most fun events of the year, the National Quartet Convention! Those of us who have attended come away with great stories, and great memories that we all cherish. In honor of NQC month, we asked Chris to share of his favorite stories: “The best memory I have from NQC is from just a few short years ago, just before Tony Greene went home to be with the Lord. I was privileged to have lunch with Tony and TaRanda that afternoon before they were to sing that night. I had flown into NQC, so I had my rental car, and drove us over to Cracker Barrel to eat. I knew Tony didn’t feel well, so I stayed pretty quiet while he carried on as normal, laughing and telling his funny stories. We finished the meal, and I drove us back to Freedom Hall. In just a few hours, after their set on the main stage, Tony was worn out, and I asked him if I could help load some things up for him. He told me they had a great crew to help with that, and that he appreciated the offer. As we walked onto their bus, he said, ‘I’m going home, and I’m gonna get well really soon. Don’t you worry about me.” Just a few short days later, with a call from John, their piano player, I learned that he had done just that, and passed on. I knew then exactly what he had been saying.” It’s always so much fun to take a glimpse into some of Gospel music’s great talent that use their gifts on and off the stage, to make Gospel music what it is: some of the greatest music in the world! I hope that if you’re at that National Quartet Convention this year, and you’re reading this, that you’ll take some time to visit Chris’ booth and thank him for visiting with us. If you’re not at the NQC this year, and want to contact him, go visit his website at www.chrishester.com . No matter what flavor or style of Gospel music you prefer, the taste always goes down easy with a great message, coupled with a great sound! Happy NQC month!
Wisdom from Wells by Dusty Wells It’s My Desire “If you could see where Jesus brought me from, to where I am today, then you would know the reason why I love Him so.” Oh, such simple but deeply profound lyrics from the songwriter Jimmy Pearce. I can remember singing the song, “It’s My Desire,” at the age of 17 or 18, and truly trying to sing it from my heart, thinking and believing I knew what struggle, pain and hurt was at that young age. But now here it is nearly 40 years later, and quite often during the week as I am out walking and praying or spending some sweet alone time with Him, I find myself singing that chorus over and over and with such a true depth of heart, emotion and pure thanksgiving for all He has walked me through, and where He has brought me to. “It’s my desire to live for Him.” I look back at the last nearly 40 years and I stand in
awe of where I am today. No, I am not perfect by any means; just ask my wife, kids, close friends and such. But I do know and understand so much more clearly what some of those precious older saints would say, when they would stand and testify about the greatness of God in their lives, His faithfulness and why they loved Him so much more. You see Jesus really has brought me to a new place in my life. My friends, it hasn’t been easy and there have been multiple times that I have honestly thought, “How in the world am I going to get out of this cruddy place I am in?” I have been in that valley so low, cold and dark, and I’ve been tossed from side to side in that raging storm of life more than once. In fact, multiple times. And honestly, I suppose I will walk through those tough times again, just like you will or have. It’s life and it’s just a part of it all. I don’t understand why we have to go through the junk and crud and I certainly strongly dislike it, but I also
know this: those tough times have made me who I am today, and they push me, encourage and challenge me to become the man of God that He wants me to become. There is no easy answer for any of us on the journey, except to at least try to trust Him and all He is taking us through. Yes, it’s always easier said than done, but I know that I know that I know and have found it to be true. I know so many of you are in those scary places of life, but let me assure you one more time. He is with you, He will never leave you nor forsake you and He really does have great plans for you and your life. And there will come a time where you will find yourself singing, “If you could see where Jesus brought me from to where I am today, then you would know the reason why I love Him so.” It really is my desire to live for Him, and I am fairly certain it is for you as well. So let us continue to press on and keep walking with each other. We can make it. You are loved….

What can an English and Journalism teacher and the director of a Community Chorus have to do with Gospel music? Well, I’ll let you in on one of the most humble, servant-minded couples in ministry today: Ken and Jean Grady of Gospel Music Today. This couple travels across our country to attend festivals, conventions, and just good old Gospel singings to film and interview artists for their program, Gospel Music Today.
known groups. This couple is very considerate of new artists, as Jean states, “We find many regional groups that have a fantastic sound and presentation. We would like to see the media focusing more on helping the regional artists become more well known.”
The Gradys give the regional artists airtime on their show with their featured group segments and CD reviews. Jean says, “The artists are so grateful that we’ve been able to share a part of them with our TV Ken and Jean are one of the greatest media assets that and Internet audience.” I know that as an artist mynew artists have. They not only interview and film the self, I am truly grateful for those in media like Ken mainstream groups of main stage concerts, but they and Jean who help us gain exposure to the public. attend the conventions for new, up-and-coming artists Our budgets are tight, and I applaud them for their giving them the same opportunities of the betterefforts to further the ministry of new artists.
It would seem that Ken and Jean were destined to create a great musical media outlet for gospel music. While employed as an English and Journalism teacher at Coventry High School in Rhode Island, Ken managed the FM Radio Station for the school and Jean directed the Pawtuxet Valley Community Chorus that met at the school once a week. Ken and his students helped Jean by providing lights and sound for Jean’s shows. One person in music direction and one in media production.I would say it was a match made in Heaven, creating a successful media program. Ken and Jean began to date as a result of working together and five years later they married. So how did a Teacher and a Choir Director from Rhode Island get involved with Southern Gospel Music? Ken says, “Neither one of us grew up with Southern Gospel music. Jean’s father was a Southern Baptist preacher in Oklahoma, so the family was aware of southern gospel music, but not really involved with it. I grew up in New England, and didn’t even know that Southern Gospel existed. We started watching The Statler Brothers on Saturday nights. That led us to the Gaither Homecoming programs, and before long our church choir, which Jean directed, was performing Southern Gospel music. From there, we began inviting Southern Gospel quartets
and groups to sing at our church in Rhode Island.” Ken felt they needed to find a way to promote the concerts so once again they drew on their background training and put on a show. Both Ken and Jean have backgrounds in computer technology, radio, music and media, which blend together to create an effective tool for spreading the gospel through media. Jean gives a little insight into their experiences, which carried over to form a successful media ministry. Jean states, “My background is in music, and my full time working background is in the computer services industry. Ken’s broadcasting background began with college radio, and continued with American Forces Radio and Television in the Army. Ken returned to teaching high school in Rhode Island, still working part time in commercial radio, and built an FM radio station at the school. When he retired from teaching, one of his former students offered him a job at WLNE TV, ABC6, in Providence, and he worked there until we moved to Oklahoma.” Ken tells us that the inspiration for Gospel Music Today came from Stacey Murphy of the Journeyman Quartet of Shepherdsville, Kentucky who encouraged them to begin the show. Stacey was also instrumental in booking the first guest for the new show when Ken wasn’t sure if any of the singers would even consider being a guest on their show. Ken says that one of the greatest highlights for he and Jean was attending the NQC in Louisville each year, and meeting up with Stacey and his family. Jean says that NQC continues to be one of their favorite venues to visit and fellowship with all the artists and attendees. The Gradys travel far and wide for concerts, but there is one more international venue they would like to attend.
Jean says that there is a group from Romania called “The New Levites” and she and Ken would love to attend one of their concerts in their own country. Of
all the concerts they have attended, Jean well remembers one in particular. “It was a Templeton Southern Gospel Cruise where Joe Arthur preached about Elijah being hidden in the cleft of the rock. As soon as Joe finished, he called the Perrys up to sing ‘He Will Hide Me.’ The Spirit was so evident in that service.” Being in music ministry I know that Ken and Jean have seen a lot of artists, young and old, so I asked them what advice would they most like to give young people involved in ministry? Jean replied, “Never spend more than you receive; too many are going into debt. Don’t talk too much during a concert; the audience came to hear you sing. Shine your shoes because for many in the audience that is what they see at eye
level. Learn to eat healthy while on the road; God gave you only one body so take care of it.” I would say that this is advice that would do all artists well to follow. Now for the older generation of singers who feel that their time in ministry is over, Ken provided
these words of wisdom, “I think the ministry of older artists is not diminished, but multiplied. They now not only have their songs and talents to share with the audience but also their experience to share with the next generation”. Ken and Jean Grady truly have servant hearts, which is what we all are to model. Christ Himself came not to be served, but to serve others in need and to spread the Gospel of salvation. Ken and Jean promote those servant hearts by helping spread the Gospel through media. Jean states, “This is our ministry, to help new artists be seen and heard by as many as possible. We don’t sing, but we can help those who do.” She adds, “I love the well-known artists, but I also love the ministry of those who are not so well known by many. They are well known by God and He knows their hearts.” As a new artist myself, and I know I speak for a host of others, THANK YOU Ken and Jean Grady for your service to the music community. Your treasures are laid up in Heaven for the servant hearts that you possess. I think Ken states it best with the quote he uses from a Gerald Crabb song that concludes each show of Gospel Music Today. “ I hope someone will say I found Jesus in your song today.” Ken says this has been their constant guide for their show always. Thank you Ken and Jean Grady for your life’s service to the spreading of the gospel. Please take the time to view Gospel Music Today online at http://www. gospelmusictoday.com or one of their Television programs.

Fuel Up
with Foods as God Made Them
By Laurette Willis, CHC
As much as possible eat foods in their natural state as God made them, limiting processed foods.
knowledge (information) and wisdom (understanding how to apply that knowledge) are valuable, necessary and available.
Quick quiz: Which meal is closest to its natural state?
Let’s look at one of the blights of modern life: processed food. Some of you may be thinking, “But processed foods are convenient! I thought conveniences were blessings, not curses!” True, thanks to the joys of technology most of us don’t have to till the soil, grind the wheat and kill the fatted calf to feed our family. I’ll admit I’d rather reach for a box of raisins at the supermarket rather than grow, harvest and dry the grapes myself. Many conveniences are blessings. Goodness, where would we be without air conditioning and electric lights? Sweating by candlelight I suppose.
a. Fresh fruit cup; raw vegetable salad w/lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and flaxseed oil) whole wheat tortillas with beans and steamed veggies. b. Raw veggie salad with light salad dressing; cooked salmon w/lemon juice; frozen veggies with cheese; brown rice; fruit dessert. c. Iceberg lettuce and tomato with sweet an’ creamy Italian dressing; instant macaroni and cheese (just add water!); canned peas; Sara-licious Put-On-The-Pounds cake. d. Fast food burger (with lettuce, tomato and pickle—those are vegetables, aren’t they?); French fries (medium-size, I’m watching what I eat); frozen dessert (what is that anyway?); diet soda (to wash it down quickly please, I’m driving). Did I read anyone’s mail? I wrote from memory, believe me. You may have noticed our menu became increasingly more processed and further away from its natural state as our list progressed. WWJD? Okay, we’re modern people; we don’t live in ancient times. How can we possibly WWJD (“What Would Jesus Do?”) when it comes to food? Actually, it’s a lot easier than you think. You know what has helped me make changes in this area? Knowledge. While the world says, “Knowledge is power,” God said through the prophet Hosea, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Either way, both
Certainly not all processed foods are bad for us either. In fact, processed food is mentioned in the Bible. Bread (processed grain) is mentioned as early as the third chapter of Genesis. Bread is meant to be a blessing; otherwise Jesus would not have referred to Himself as “the bread of life.” Realize, however, that grains are very different today than they were in Jesus’ day. Steer clear of gluten and GMO (genetically modified) foods. Grains today have been found to cause inflammation and weight gain. Sprouted grains are a better choice. Simply put, the further the food is from its original state, the more processes it has gone through, the more preservatives and chemicals are added to increase its shelf “life,” the less nutritional value there is for our bodies to use. Also, the more potentially harmful these non-food items become as our bodies struggle under the weight of the toxic load. Yeah, but it Costs More According to the Economic Research Service of the USDA, Americans can meet the recommendation of three servings of fruits and four servings of vegetables daily for 64 cents
per person. Sixty-four cents a day! That’s only $2.56 for a family of four to receive 12 servings of fruit and 16 servings of vegetables. That’s about half the cost for only one person’s fast food hamburger, fries and cola. Seems like a better investment to me. It appears we’re going to pay for health one way or the other. We can either invest time and money up front for fitness and nutrition, or we can spend time and money later trying to fix what’s already been broken. I’m told good investments have good returns. It makes sense, doesn’t it? Now, if you’re recovering from an illness, please take heart! There are still many months and years ahead to enjoy a healthy return on the investments you make today. You can make the rest of your life the best of your life.

Great Gospel Women: Maria Kramer By Hannah Webb
Eighteen-year-old Maria Kramer is a dynamic and gifted young artist that has been raised in a family that is fully committed to the work of the Gospel. In 1998, parents Scott and Rachel Kramer founded Hands of Love Ministry, which is a non-profit evangelistic outreach organization dedicated to sharing the Gospel. Through the ministry, the Kramers are in their 20th season of hosting RiverLife Gospel Music Lunch and Dinner cruises aboard the Spirit of Peoria on the Illinois
Woody Wright. In 2001, the Kramers decided to take a hiatus from road travels to serve regionally and lead worship at their home church when Maria’s brother, Weston Kramer, was diagnosed with autism. During her sophomore year of high school when the Kramer family back on the road full-time, Maria felt the calling to join her parents in full-time music ministry. River. portunity to travel to the Holy Land twice. Some of the many highlights for her were sailing on the Sea of Galilee, being baptized in the Jordan River, and spending time in prayer at the Garden of Gethsemane. As I am getting to know Maria Kramer, I see a bright future in the circle of Christian music’s great women. Among the fantastic ladies that use their gifts for the Lord, Maria is inspired by Sonya Isaacs. “Her heart for the Lord, her example of humility and trust in Him, and her beautiful voice, inspire me as a musician. I really appreciate her family’s ministry!” says Kramer. One thing you may not know about Maria is that she plays five different instruments: piano, flute, guitar, ukulele, and mandolin. Talk about a gifted lady!
When I asked Maria what is the one thing she would like for other young women in Christian music to know, her response paints a beautiful picture of her inner beauty. “It’s an audience of One. I love the verse Acts

High Notes By Kelly Nelon Clark
The Eagle Have you ever thought about how our lives correlate with an eagle? Recently we were in Alaska and I believe it was the first time that I have seen as eagle in the open and not in a zoo. They are fantastic creatures and always seem to sit very high in the air. If you look at the scripture below it starts with, but they that wait upon the Lord. How many times are we situations that seem too big to handle and yet instead of waiting on the Lord for help we try to fix it on our own? We should wait, expecting that He can handle the situation better than we ever could. Sometimes as we start to get a little age on us we feel as though God is finished with us, but if you look at the eagle and how he flies toward the bright hot sun and then drops down into the sea, and in doing that, he begins to molt and the old feathers fall off and are replaced with new feathers. He comes back with new life and vigor and lives to a very old age. We can do the very same thing, allowing the Lord to renew us with purpose and strength.
Here are some principles of eagles that we all need to remember and use in our life: Eagles sit in high places and fly high so that no other bird can fly with him. Eagles fly with eagles. Eagles have strong vision. They have the ability to focus on something up to five kilometers away. When an eagle sites his prey, he narrows his focus on it and sets out to get it. No matter the obstacles, the eagle will not move his focus from the prey until hegrabs it. Stay focused on your vision, no matter what obstacle is in front of you. Keeping your eyes focused will help you succeed. Eagles do not eat dead things. They feed only on fresh prey. Vultures eat dead animals, but eagles will not. Be careful what you see and listen to. Fill your mind with good things of the Lord. Eagles love a storm. When clouds gather, eagles get excited. The eagle uses the storm’s wind to lift it higher. Once it finds the wind of the storm, the eagle
uses the raging storm to lift him above the clouds. This gives the eagle an opportunity to glide and rest its wings. In the meantime, all the other birds hide in the leaves and branches of the trees. We can use the storms in our lives to grow us and make us stronger. Eagles fly into the sun when an attacker comes because they are the only creatures that can see as
they approach the sun. The bright light of the sun blinds the attacker. If you think about that; when our attackers come to destroy us, we can do the very same thing with our Son! I love the thought of flying as an Eagle to my father who loves me more than I can imagine and protects as I go to Him! “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 KJV)

Randall Reviews It -September by Randall Hamm
September is a great month for Southern Gospel music lovers! Lots of festivals, concerts and new releases. This month, we look at the Mark Dubbeld Family who have been gaining in popularity this year and they show us why they are deserving of the air play! We also listen to the fantastic voices of Amber Nelon Thompson and Dallas Rogers who show us that solo artists definitely have a place in Southern Gospel. Enjoy this look at three terrific artists.
Mark Dubbeld Family Nothin But Love 2015 Mansion Records Mansion Recording Studio - Nashville Tennessee Producer: Jeremy Peace Group Members: Mark and Janene Dubbeld, and their children: Elaina, Channing and Briton. Song Titles: This Is What I Know; The Blood Stained Way; Nothin But Love; One More Wayward Child; A Little Bit Better; He’s The Reason; Eternal Hallelujah; God Did The Best Of Things; Understanding Friend; I
Belong and Nothin But Love (Reprise) All songs written by Janene Dubbeld The Mark Dubbeld Family bring us their fifth CD Nothin But Love. The CD will bring you the listener, nothin’ but joy. What a true treat from this family, who I first met in 2010. I was honored to have been the first DJ to give the Mark Dubbeld Family their first radio interview and liners. What I didn’t know is what a true gem I discovered, and now the rest of America and the world is discovering this gem of a family. From the opening Country sound of “This Is What I Know,” featuring the family, to “I Belong,”a showpiece for Mark. If you’ve not seen this family in concert, you’ve missed the showstopping performances of Mark Dubbeld doing Handel’s Messiah and the Hallelujah Chorus. Suffice it to say that Mark, every time he performs it, brings the glory down and people to their feet. This project has brought this family a long way from their first CD and a talent contest that brought them their first exposure to NQC . That CD produced their single “Nothing But Praise,” which caught the attention of many in the industry and they were soon signed to Mansion Records. All 10 cuts will bring a smile to your face, a tap to your foot and maybe cause you to soul search too. The first radio release, “A Little Bit Better,” is Country with a Cajun kick, and is one of the showpieces on this CD along with “Nothin But Love.” Jeremy Peace truly brought out the best in the Dubbelds and it shows on this project. The Dubbeld Family has been a featured artist at NQC since 2013 and I was privileged to have been invited as a guest
and friend by the family to be front row for that performance in 2013. If you’re looking for something new in Gospel Music to listen to, may I recommend this family? wife Shelly. The song is based on the woman with the issue of blood. She knew if she could just see and touch the hem of His garment, she would be totally healed. Straight ahead Southern Gospel, this could be Dallas’ first Top 40, if released as a single. All in all a great first effort for Dallas, a native of Seymour, Indiana, just over the hill and holler and down the road from me in French Lick Indiana. Visit Dallas atwww.facebook.com/pages/Dallas-RogersMusic/844569958956471 and tell ‘em Randall sent you. Strongest Songs On The CD: “Gotta Get Ready,” “Gonna see Jesus,” and “No Room.”

Can’t Bring Me Down – Depp Britt He Included Me – Rodney Griffin Go Forth – Mike Speck and Niles Borop The title says it all, New Beginnings. Dallas steps out on his own for the first time, after being a tenor for many years with many of the top groups in the industry. Groups such as the Inspirations, Journeymen, Dixie Echoes, Cross 4 Crowns, are among the many he sang with over the years. On this CD, Dallas gets the chance to shine on his own and that he does. The first cut “Gotta Get Ready,” is the first single release and Dallas takes us to church with this one: “The Groom is coming soon, Church we Gotta Get Ready for His return.” But the true breakout song on the CD is “Gonna See Jesus,” written by his
Amber Nelon Thompson Just Sing 2015 Daywind Beech Creek – Brentwood Tennessee and Daywind Studios – Hendersonville Tennessee Producer: Jason Clark and Dottie Leonard Miller Exec Producer Songs: Sing-A-Long (Dave Clark/Jason Clark); He’s Making Me (Marty Funderburk/Scott Godsey); Another Time, Another Place (Gary Driskell); Be Thou My Vision (Traditional); What Do You Say? (Jason Clark); Without Your Love (Jason Clark/Joel Lindsey); Grateful (Tony Wood/Don Poythress/Ian Eskelin); God Is Always Good (Marty Funderburk/Chad Cates); Give It To Jesus (Jason Clark/Joel Lindsey); Falling (Tony Wood/Gina Boe/Ronnie Freeman) Just Sing is the first full solo release by Amber Nelon Thompson, although not her first solo effort as a four song EP was released last fall. Those four songs are included on this effort. I have been a DJ for twenty years at WFLQ and remember when Amber released her first solo songs on Daywind. As they say, some things get better with age, like a fine wine.Amber’s first
full release is worth the drink. There are ten great songs, six new ones that are added to the four songs from the EP, “Without Your Love,” “What Do You Say?” “Grateful,” and “Falling.” The six new songs compliment the earlier four and wow, this is a CD that was well worth the wait. From the beginning, the first track “Sing-A-Long”, with a guest appearance by Bill Gaither, gets the CD started and the humming begins. Also appearing as special guests are Michael English, Joseph Habedank and of course, Amber’s family, the Nelons. The first release is a remake of a Sandi Patty/ Wayne Watson song, “Another Time, Another Place.” One word: smooth, and absolutely beautiful. Should be a Top 20 song and earn a possible Dove nomination. Michael guests with her on “He’s Making Me.” This is a CD that must be in your collection, if you’re a true Gospel fan. There’s something for everyone on this recording. Visit Amber at www.facebook. com/ambernelonthompson and at the Nelons website kellynelon.com. Strongest Songs On The CD: “Sing-A-Long,” “What Do You Say,” and “Give It To Jesus.” Randall Reviews It is written by Randall Hamm, Gospel Program Director of WFLQ French Lick Indiana. I.C.G.M.A Celebrates 59th Annual Convention and Awards Show By Dan Duncan The International Country Gospel Music Association celebrated their 59th Annual Convention and Awards Show August 6th, 7th, and 8th at the West Plains Civic Center in historic West Plains, Missouri. The powerful ministry of Country Gospel Music was clearly evident, as singers and musicians repeatedly conveyed to the audience, “It’s all about Him!” From the opening prayer to the closing ceremonies on the final evening, the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ was wonderfully evident. Again this year the West Plains Civic Center was filled to capacity every night of the event. Artists and fans alike enjoyed outstanding talent as they performed Country Gospel, Bluegrass Gospel, and Southern Gospel music. Special guest appearances by fan favorites included Country music legends Freddie Hart, Del Way, Chris Golden - formerly with the Oak Ridge Boys, Renae - the Waitress from the television show Larry’s Country Diner, and Greg McDougal of Nashville. James Payne and Del Way entertained the crowd with a segment of their Good Old Boys Like Us presentation. Christian comedians Barry McGee, Bruce Walker, and Pastor Pudge delighted the fans with their country humor. The continued growth in the number of new performing artists in the organization added to the enjoyment of the fans, who enthusiastically welcomed this year’s talent lineup. Every
available booth space in the Exhibit Hall was filled, allowing artists the opportunity to network with other performers, musicians, songwriters, publishers, producers, promoters and broadcasters. Joyful fellowship abounds at these annual conventions of ICGMA. One group commented: “It’s like a great big family reunion!” Every member who attends has the opportunity to sing, either on the daytime musical showcases, at the newly established Jamming At The Cross, or during the evening concerts. The celebration concludes with a beautiful banquet-reception, with all members invited to attend at no charge. The banquet is held to show appreciation to all ICGMA members and to honor this year’s Gold Cross Award Winners. The I.C.G.M.A. honors excellence in 28 categories in their Gold Cross Awards Show. That Awards Show was held on Saturday evening, August 8th. Top honors went to James Payne, Gold Cross Male Artist of The Year, Ava Kasich, Gold Cross Female Artist of The Year, Freddie Hart, Living Legend Award, Mike Manuel, Songwriter of The Year, Larry’s Country Diner, TV Show of The Year, and Terry Beene, Joe Paul Nichols Lifetime Achievement Award. Sharron Kay King Chin Up, Journey On
By Vivian Belknap time to spend quality time with a minister of the gospel I met Sharron Kay King in the summer of 2010. I had as well as an artist and songwriter. I enjoyed getting to become an avid listener to our local Southern Gospel radio station, KKGM AM 1630 in the Fort Worth Dallas know her and her family. She has a very sweet spirit. area. One of the songs I heard on that station was “My Best Friend,” sung by Sharron Kay King. I really loved Sharron says the highlight of her visit with Jerry and me happened on a Saturday morning. I was making breakhearing that song with fantastic words and the melody fast and I got a phone call from our good friend Phil was beautiful. The more I heard this song I really felt cross. He was coming through our area headed to West the need to try to find her and meet. Texas so I invited him to join us for breakfast. When I I found her on Facebook and send her a private message told Sharron that Phil Cross was coming for breakfast, she said, “THE Phil Cross?” It didn’t take him long to asking if she ever travels to Texas because she lives in By Jaquita Lindsey get here. We enjoyed a great southern breakfast and Georgia. She said, “Yes, I come to Texas once a year but usually just to East Texas.” I loved her spirit and her talked about the southern gospel music all of us love. music so much I said, “Let’s try to find some venues for Of course, the topic of songwriting came up; at the time you in the Fort Worth Dallas area,” so I started emailing Sharron was in the process of writing a song, and she asked him for some advice. Because of his time with and phoning pastors and churches that I was familiar with, and was able to schedule a couple of dates for her. her she was able to complete writing that song. I talked with Mary Fay Jackson about Sharron and she agreed also to help find venues in the North Texas area. During this first visit she scheduled with Mary Fay Jackson and Mike Culpepper, who owns Pepper ProThe first time I met her was at a church south of Fort Worth where she had her first concert in the DFW area. ductions in Burleson, TX to film two videos featuring two of her songs, “God’s Been Good” and “The Music I attended the concert and I felt a bond with her and invited her to use our home as a base, as she had several Of My Heart” from Sharron’s own pen. They can be seen on YouTube as well as on Family Friendly Enterweeks of concerts in the area. As a result of that first tainment. Sharron has not only had the privilege to be encounter, we became great and true friends. I enjoyed a guest but also to co-host on Texas Country Gospel the beautiful spirit she projected as well as her love with Mary Fay Jackson. Sharron’s videos and other for Jesus, not only in her concerts but in her daily life. gospel artists’ videos can be seen on Family Friendly Sharron is beautiful inside and out. This was my first
est way to deal with the painful memory of an incident of sexual abuse when she was just nine years old. The drugs and alcohol seemed to help her cope with the haunting past yet only created more pain, followed by years of addiction as well as regrets. At the age of 25, Sharron’s mother disowned her at a time when her life was at its worst. “I was so heavily involved in drugs and drinking that she absolutely turned her back on me”, says Sharron.“That was when God began to work in my heart. My mother always prayed for me, and many nights I’m sure I kept her up all night.” The Holy Spirit reminded Sharron of Sunday School memories
Entertainment, airing gospel music videos on 28 TV stations and 200 cable companies as well as on ROKU, 24 hours each day. “Chin Up, Journey On,” is not only one of Sharron’s signature songs but is a rule that she practices in her life. Sharron’s life was one of many peaks and valleys and when she was saved, she gained her strength from the Lord. With His help, she goes forward with her chin up as she journeys on, realizing her steps are ordained of God. She was not raised in church but has the memory of singing “Jesus Loves Me” as a child in Sunday School which helped to convict her of the life that she was leading. As Sharron entered her teenage years, she picked up the habit of drugs and alcohol. This seemed to be the easiwith her Granny and brought to her memory “Jesus Loves Me.” Sharron Kay King was saved and delivered July 25, 1987, praying for Jesus to forgive her sins and to deliver her from nearly 14 years of addiction to both alcohol and drugs. He did just that. She told me “I had absolutely fallen in love with Jesus.” After that night, “You can bet I had lots to sing and shout about!” She continued by saying that she wanted so badly to do something for the Lord so she began to sing in the church choir. And that’s how it all began. Sharron Kay is the mother of three children, Julie, Jason and Elizabeth, and has been blessed with eight grandchildren, ages three months to 16 years old. In 1985, Sharron didn’t realize she was pregnant with her third child until she was five months pregnant. She considered having an abortion, but praise the Lord, she did not. She is very thankful for her three children and their families, and she is absolutely giddy about her
grandchildren. Sharron Kay has been nominated for many awards including Absolutely Gospel Top 10 Fan Favorite in 2012, Diamond Awards Top Nominee Christian Country Female Artist in 2011 and many others going back as far as 2007. In 2013, Sharron Kay was the ICGMA Horizon Female Artist of the year. Charting songs written by Sharron include “Unplanted Seeds,” “Don’t Stop Believing,” “My Best Friend,” “I’d Walk This Valley Again,” “Chin Up, Journey On” and “Riding For The Son.”
Sharron is very involved with the Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat hosted by Anne Downing. Next year 2016 will be Sharron’s sixth year to minister at this retreat. The first year Sharron went to the retreat she was asked by Ann Downing to come and sit in on the retreat. Ann asked Sharron Kay to sing a song for the audience and she sung “My Best Friend”, and told a little bit about her life. At the end of this conference Ann Downing asked Sharron to do a workshop the following year for the retreat. Sharron loves ministering at the Middle Tennessee Women’s Retreat. It’s very unlikely that there will be women at the retreat who are addicted to drugs and alcohol, but there are many more addictions Satan uses to try to take away our joy and peace. Hurt is hurt, no matter the kind, and all of us have been wounded by family, friends, and church family. Her goal is to encourage women to get their focus off people and circumstances and focus on Jesus. She wants us to remember Jesus was ridiculed, humiliated, and spat upon. His best friend turned his back on Him and said he didn’t know Him. Yet Jesus kept His focus on doing the will of His Father. That’s Sharron’s encouraging word for us as the body of Christ.
The Lord has begun to open doors for Sharron to speak at other women’s retreats and luncheons. Sharron says she is totally surprised the Lord can even use her. She says many are shocked that life on the road in ministry isn’t what most of us have thought it to be. God has blessed Sharron with the gift of communication for ladies to understand we’re all alike; none better or worse than the other. If we’ve been born again, we are children of the King. If we are willing for the Lord to use us, He will; doesn’t matter where we’ve been! With the help of the Lord, Sharron says she has no plans to slow down anytime soon. She has been dealing with writer’s block for some time, but in the past few weeks, song ideas are once again in her head and spirit. She’s also writing her book and hopes to have it finished by the end of this year. She believes the Second Coming of Jesus is near, and she wants to be ready for that event, and she wants for all of us to be ready. Sharron says, “We need to stop playing church and be the church.” Sharron is available for concerts, retreats, and conferences. Her website is www.sharronkay.com, and she is also on Facebook, just search for Sharron Kay King. Christian Country Expo 2015 By Lorraine Walker
A brand new annual event began in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in August. In association with Salute To Our Heroes in the Smoky Mountains Retreat center, Christian Country Expo took place from August 24th through the 27th. SGN Scoops and Coastal Media sponsored this event and Rob Patz along with Pete Smith, Vonda Easley and the CCX staff worked tirelessly to ensure that artists and guests alike had a wonderful experience. The CCX welcomed many Christian Country artists, including Marty Raybon, T. Graham Brown, Chris Golden, Chuck Day, Jim Sheldon, Tommy Brandt, Tommy Brandt II, Kevin Rowe, Gail Cogburn, Jan Harbuck, Tina Wakefield, Jerry Branscom, The McKay Project, Sharron Kay King and many more. Among the events this week at the Christian Country Expo, were two daytime showcases hosted by Vonda Easley and Ava Kasich. Many of the evening artists were also on stage during the day to play their instruments and cheer each other as newer artists gathered to sing. Some of these favor-
ites included Lindsay Huggins, Robin Springs, Kelly Coberly, Steve Shirey, The Branscombs, The Shoefields, Ty Hodges, and others.
The Afternoon Jam Session, sponsored by Firehouse Subs, was held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Several of the artists joined in this informal musical session and played well-known songs to the appreciative audience. Thanks to Firehouse Subs for partnering with us on this great event. Radio Station Praise 96.3 was also on hand to talk to the artists and to hold an on-air interview with Rob Patz. Jim Sheldon, The Positive Cowboy, held a new release party to celebrate the project entitled Positively Free In Jesus. Artists and fans gathered to wish him well and to get their copy of this fresh CD. One of the biggest surprises of the event occurred on Wednesday night, when Rob Patz of SGN Scoops presented Chuck Day with the 2015 Christian Country Living Legend Diamond Award. Patz also announced
that SGN Scoops would now have separate Christian Country and Southern Gospel Diamond Award celebrations beginning in 2016. The 2016 Christian Country and Bluegrass Diamond Awards ceremony will take place at the Christian Country Expo in summer of 2016. The 2016 Southern Gospel Diamond Awards will be presented at the Creekside Gospel Music Convention in October 2016.
We have included many photographs of the event to encourage all of our readers to keep watching for the next Christian Country Expo! Special thanks to Michelle Drummond, Pat Drummond and Robert York for your expertise. You can find more pictures and upcoming event information on Facebook at www.facebook.com/christiancountryexpo

Influenced by the Classics: A Look at
The New Dove Brothers
By Justin Gilmore
We are a people of history. We are always recording events whether it be with the pen or now a smartphone. Gospel Music has a rich history in this country and has produced many incredible vocalists. These voices and groups of the past have had a major influence on vocal ensembles of today. This is evident in the group formed by two brothers with a deep love for quartet music. Family harmony is a staple of Southern Gospel Music. There have been many incredible artists over the years that have delighted fans with their family bond. In terms of male quartets, McCray and Eric Dove formed one of the most popular family quartets in recent years. The Dove Brothers (formerly The McCray Dove Band, the Dove Brothers Band, and the Dove Brothers Quartet) was formed in 1998 by brothers McCray and Eric Dove. McCray was bit by the quartet bug at very young age. Dove states “[The Dove Brothers] started in 1998 with my brother a school buddy and two talented young men. We had no idea what would happen; we only knew we wanted to sing. I was raised on quartet singing. I loved the 50s and 60s style of quartet singing. Even though I never saw a quartet until the early seventies, I listened to the albums from that era.” The impact that this style made on the young Dove brothers became very apparent when
they came together to form their quartet. Another influence on the young McCray was his quartet mentor. Doves states, “I was blessed to be trained by a man named Gerald Milligan who knew that style backwards and forward so I studied under him at age 13 until I joined the Dixie Melody Boys.” McCray was 17 years old when he joined the DMB and he remained with the group for ten years (1987-1997). The year after McCray’s departure from the DMB would prove to be a year that transformed the careers of the Dove brothers. The Dove Brothers Quartet was known for the traditional appearance of its members (in terms of suits and ties) and style and for covering the old classics of the Blackwood Brothers/Statesmen era of quartet music, which served as a major influence on McCray as a youth. In the early years, they revived the old Statesmen classic “Get Away Jordan” and were met with great success. They made an indelible mark on the industry and continued to draw on the old songs and style. This “revival” was a crowd pleaser which earned them the Singing News Fan Award for Horizon Artist in 1999. The Dove Brothers then recorded the Speer family classic “Didn’t It Rain” which also became a huge hit with audiences across the nation. They almost always ended
their concerts with these two standards. In 2002, the group won the Singing News Fan Award for favorite Traditional Male Quartet which was indicative of their growing success. Dove says concerning the awards, “Less than a year we started winning awards and before you knew it we had won Quartet of the Year. They say we still are known as the fastest quartet to ever win Quartet of the Year in Southern Gospel Music.” In 2005, the group moved away from the old and stepped into the new. Their sound became more modern and they started to record more new songs as opposed to the classics, though they did not stray completely away from them. McCray addresses this shift saying, “Like all quartets, we had some changes and our sound changed; but we still had a great sound, just different.” Eric Dove left the group for a few months in late 2005 and Lance Jeffrey filled his position until his return in 2006. During this time, the quartet recorded several hits including their first number one hit “I Can Pray” in 2007. In 2010, the group added a live band which
was comprised of Eric’s son Devin Dove on drums, Adam Harman on piano, and Marc Peele on bass guitar. In 2012, the group rebranded itself as the Dove Brothers Band, but in 2013 when Eric Dove came off the road due to health issues, the name changed once more. In 2014, the group was billed as The McCray Dove Band and was comprised of McCray as the lead singer and pianist along with his nephew on drums and a steel guitarist. This format continued until mid-2015 when the band concept was ultimately retired. Now in 2015, Dove announced that the name would once again be the Dove Brothers (also called the New Dove Brothers). He is now joined by well-known baritone vocalist Tony Peace. Peace sang with the Wilburns in the mid 1990’s, then sang baritone for the Palmetto State Quartet from 1997-2004 and later the legendary Kingsmen Quartet from 2005-2007. The veteran Peace brings his smooth voice and his ability to convey a lyric with great emotion. Rounding out the trio is tenor Wesley Smith. Smith, formerly of Palmetto State Quartet, the Dixie Echoes, and Driven, brings his crystal clear tenor voice to the group in the traditional Dove Brothers fashion. Dove had this to say about the current group: “Well as you know, changes could happen as I answer this question! As I speak, it’s Tony Peace singing baritone, Wesley Smith singing tenor and I’m still singing the lead. At this time, we have not heard the RIGHT bass singer.” This lineup is currently working on their first recording as The New Dove Brothers and it’s sure to include that classic style. It also will most likely include several songs written by Dove himself. The talented
lead is known for his songwriting ability as well as his voice. He has written many of the songs sung by the group in the past. Though the group has gone through several changes in recent years, they shown no sign of slowing down and continue to spread God’s word through song! McCray and Eric have had many memorable experiences in their years of singing Gospel Music including “working with greats like Arthur Smith, Mosie Lister, [and] Hovie Lister.” However, McCray states, “...anytime we see our music is making a difference, that’s always number one.” This is a main tenant of the group’s mission statement. “We want folks to leave saying they were blessed and had fun. But most of all we want the Lord to shine,” Dove adds concerning their calling. In terms of the future of the New Dove Brothers, it’s looking mighty bright! Dove says, “Well, we will be recording as much as we can. You can expect the New Dove Brothers are about singing classics. That’s what we are the best at, plus that’s the style we love.” It seems that with the group’s recent return to the Dove Brothers name, the classic style will once again become prominent. Groups like the Dove Brothers keep this rich history of song alive. The quartets of the early days still have an influence on today’s quartets as seen in the classic style of McCray Dove and the New Dove Brothers.

Sunday Drive:
Cruising Happy By Bethany Cook
What do you get when you cross family harmony, multiple award winners, classic cars, clash of clans and a beauty pageant winner? One might think that this is a crazy combination, but if you throw them all together and put them on a bus, you end up with the Southern Gospel group known as Sunday Drive. With a wide variety of interests and talents, Sunday Drive is without a doubt one of the most interesting and entertaining groups on the road today. From Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon to going to a Denver Broncos game - and watching Peyton Manning throw touchdown pass number 500, this trio is always up for a good time and a lot of time on the road! They enjoy visiting new places and meeting new friends all across the country. Brothers, Jeff and Dusty Treece, have been in the ministry full time for most of their lives. Jeff and Dusty’s family had a group called Cedar Ridge. Cedar Ridge was the first signed group with a top 40 song, “If There’s A Rocking Chair in Heaven,” for Crossroads’ Sonlite label back in 1986. Jeff and Dusty traveled for 10 years as the Jeff Treece Band, and when Jeff married Misty the name changed to Sunday Drive.
When individuals are looking to start a Southern Gospel group, one of the biggest things they decide amongst themselves is their mission. While it’s quite obvious this family is full of laughter and good times, there is a seriousness that comes out when they begin to speak of the heart and mission of Sunday Drive. For Jeff, Misty, and Dusty, their mission is simple – to be a light, sharing joy and hope in Jesus through music, message and comedy. Jeff provides some interesting facts about the group as a whole, as well as individually. As far as the group, they have an impressive list of awards including: 2012 King Country Song of the Year, 2012 King Country Group/Band of the Year, 2012 King Country Entertainer of the Year, ICGMA Vocal Group of the Year (2011 and 2012), and ICM Vocal Group of the Year (2011 through 2014). They have performed at the Grand Ole’ Opry and on National TV. They have had the privilege to share the stage with artists such as The Oak Ridge Boys, The McKameys, Big Daddy Weave, Tanya Tucker, Gene Watson, Stella Parton and many more. Individually, Jeff, Misty, and Dusty are three talented and interesting individuals. Often told she looks like
Marie Osmond and sings like Karen Carpenter, Misty has won several talent contests and beauty pageants. Misty is always looking for a new shopping experience and enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also appeared as a host on an episode of Extreme Makeover.
like to reach as many people possible with our music and tell them there is hope, joy, peace, grace and mercy in Jesus. We feel Jesus is coming back soon
Known for his humor and heartfelt stories, Jeff does most of the writing of Sunday Drive’s songs, and also plays keyboard. He enjoys listening to Enlighten on Sirius/XM Radio and going out to eat with his parents when he’s not on the road. Jeff also has a love for classic cars! Dusty plays drums, has won musician of the year three times, and he loves the Tennessee Volunteers and his iPhone. When asked what other things he enjoys doing, the response was “playing clash of clans, playing clash of clans, playing clash of clans.” I think it’s probably safe to say he has an app for that too, since he also loves his iPhone. While I’m sure he’ll always have a love for clash of clans, in January 2016, Dusty will have a new love. His wife is due to deliver a baby girl, and no doubt he’ll be trading some clash of clans time for diapers, feedings, and precious time with his new baby girl. In the midst of all the laughing and joking, it’s still clear that Sunday Drive has a heart for people and for the ministry. Jeff states, “The greatest accomplishment is when we see people come to Christ during a Sunday Drive concert. When they come for salvation, healing, deliverance, casting their cares at the altar or to pray for family members or friends - that is Kingdom impact and that is what we desire more than anything. We want people to leave a Sunday Drive concert changed, encouraged, and uplifted. We would
and it’s time to be about the Father’s business.” A few pastors have given feedback on their website about their services with Sunday Drive. These few references show just how amazing this trio is. The pastors describe the wonderful, quality music and how much regular church members and visitors enjoyed the concert. They talk about re-commitments, sensitivity to the leading of God and the lifting up of Jesus. This group walks their talk. Recently, Sunday Drive had the opportunity to perform at Two Tree Island. This is an island that is on Lake Harding, and the only way to get to the concert that Sunday Morning was by crossing the water. Boats anchored down that Sunday morning for a great worship service. It was a unique experience for these artists, but they had a great time. It’s clear to see that whether you run into Sunday Drive at a football game, a cruise ship, an island, or at a regular concert, they’ll welcome you with a smile and share a fabulous time. One of their songs “Happy, Happy, Happy,” truly describes each one of them, and they are leading souls to Christ along the way. Once you come into contact with them, you will leave sharing in that happiness! Summer of 2015 has held a lot of experiences for
Sunday Drive. From laying down tracks for their new album, performing at the National Street Rod Association worship service with over 10,000 cars there for the event, to Dusty finding out he’s going to have a little girl that will have him wrapped around her pinky. I see a great future for Sunday Drive, and I know that once you meet them, you’ll fall in love with them as well! Be sure to jump in on a concert the next time that Sunday Drive drives your way. You’ll be sure to have a phenomenal time, and this family will truly bless your heart. Cruise on over to their website www. jefftreeceband.com for the latest tour schedule and updates on their new album coming soon!

Exodus By Jaquita Lindsey
Mike, Susan and Mary make up the chosen artist of the month, Exodus. 11th Hour had the opportunity to share the stage with this trio back in June at their home church, Higher Ground Baptist Church in Gadsden, AL. What a great night we had! They not only showed us great hospitality, but they were wonderful people to listen to. Exodus has made it their mission to sing for the glory of God, ministering to people with their songs and testimonies.
Mike tells Scoops how the trio got its start: “Exodus formed in 2012 after lots of prayer. We all attend church together. Our pastor, James Wallace, asked Mary to sing, “There Rose a Lamb,” for Easter in 2011. We were not sure how the harmony would sound. In practice, the harmony seemed to just fall into place. But it was not just the harmony falling into place. We felt like something special was on the horizon,” Mike shares. “We thank God for allowing us to minister, whether it be on stage, in one of our recordings, or online through
our Facebook page or on our website.”
The name Exodus came originally from Susan. “Mary and Mike were both skeptical about the name at first. But after praying and studying it, the name seemed perfect for us. We are all born into the bondage of sin, just like the children of Israel. At salvation, we are delivered from that bondage. We have exited out of bondage and now await that mass exodus that will take place soon for those who accept Jesus as their savior. Praise God for His grace and mercy!” Susan energetically tells us.
the next step in ministry with Mary and Susan. My parents could not have been happier than to see me carrying on their life of music that they taught me.” When not on the road or working, Mike enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf, when time allows. “The ministry has had such a busy year! I have not had much down time,” he shares. “But this is what the Lord has called us to do. I believe the Lord has put us three together. I believe we are living in the last days. I want to do all I can to help people come to the Lord!” The Boaz, AL native, Mary Scott, sings the soprano part for Exodus. Her husband, Brian, also travels with the group, helping with sound. While at home, she works at Davita Dialysis. She treats her patients like family, giving them the utmost care. Mary did not sing publicly until the age of 18. “I was very, very shy my entire life. God definitely worked a miracle in me, not only when He saved me, but by giving me boldness to overcome the huge obstacle of shyness!” Mary exclaims. And overcome she did. Her sweet personality and great voice help make the sound for Exodus.
I’ve Been Set Free, the trio’s 2014 debut project, includes songs such as “Sheltered In the Arms of God,” “Who Is That Knocking” and their first radio release, “Tell Me Oh, Tell Me Again.” The song did well for them, landing them on the Singing News charts at number 71 for March. Exodus’ second radio release, “Gloryland Train,” was released to radio in June. Be listening for these greats songs from this talented Alabama trio. Mike Watson and his wife, Becky, make their home in Gadsden, AL. He is the owner of MLC Associates, which specializes in promotional sales for auto dealerships. If his job and music does not keep him busy, being the father to six kids and grandfather to nine grandchildren certainly does. Mike began singing at the age of 15 years old. He sang with his family group, The Watsons, which included his parents and two siblings. “I was around music all my life,” Mike says. “My parents, Ray and Jean Watson, were such great influences in my life musically. My father passed away this past year. But before he passed, he was able to see me taking
Mary grew up being a preacher’s daughter. Her parents, Danny and Nancy Ingram, pastored many churches during her young life. Losing both of her parents at an early age, she learned personally how Jesus would sustain her through anything. I asked Mary who has had the greatest influence in her life. “My mother would have to be the first and foremost. Doris (Susan’s mother) and Susan, as well as my friend Audrey Cole, have rendered
amazing encouragement in my life. I am so thankful for each of these Godly women! I truly believe that God sends people into our lives to help build us along the way,” she answered. I agree with Mary. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Susan Brady is the trio’s alto singer. She and her husband, Bill, own B&B Flooring in Gadsden. Bill runs the business and Susan handles the office. I asked Susan to tell me her first memory of singing. “I sang my first solo when I was about five years old. I remember standing on the altar so that people could see me,” she laughingly tells me. “My mother, Doris Wandke, was the church pianist. At home, I would sing along while my mom practiced on the piano. My brother, Lawayne, would play his homemade drum set which was made up of plastic garbage pails turned upside down and two butter knives for drum sticks! Music was always around me.” Susan sang with her family for many years. She later went on to be a member of a couple of groups before joining Exodus. Although singing has always been a
major part of her life, lately she spends much of her time writing. She told me, “At this point in my life, my favorite thing to do is write songs for our Lord. It puts a smile on my face and brings me so much joy! I am currently writing new material for our next album. When you are spending time in prayer and searching the Scriptures in attempt to write a song about our Creator, it brings a closeness that nothing else can compare to! What a Savior we have!” Five of Susan’s songs were debuted on their I’ve Been Set Free project. I always like to hear the response of why the endurance of the late nights, hectic schedules and endless miles traveled. Mary had a great inspiring reminder that she shared with us. “I like how our Pastor, Brother Wallace, put it. ‘It’s not how you start, it’s how you end.’ I definitely want to end well! Praise God for quickening me to be useful for His kingdom. I want to hear Him say ‘well done!’” Humbleness and anointing can both carry you further than anything else. This trio has both. If you hear of Exodus being in your area, go and hear them! Their schedule and other group information can be found at www.exodus-southerngospel.com.

A Grandparent’s Prayer By Jennifer Campbell
When I was a little girl, rarely a day went by that I did not go next door to visit my grandparents. One day I would help them pick up pecans under the tallest tree in their yard, a tree that towered over me like an enormous giant with an infinite number of sprawling arms. Sometimes, I would wheel my little red wagon down to their house, either full of baby dolls or carrying my cat Morris or my pet rabbit Speckles. Another day, we would be inside, making Grandma Ethel’s famous chocolate pound cake, which I still make in her memory to this very day, or Papa Joe’s mouthwatering homemade ice cream. I always loved this activity because they always let me lick the paddle when the ice cream was ready to eat! But it wasn’t these fond childhood memories that make the top of the list. And it wasn’t the cherished moments I spent with my Grandma, listening and watching intently as she taught me to play the autoharp. It wasn’t even the trips to town in Papa Joe’s blue and white Ford pick-up truck, where we would ride with the windows rolled down, singing at the top of our lungs, “In the Good ‘Ole Summertime.” What makes the visits to Papa and Grand-
ma’s house special in my storehouse of memories are the many ways they showed their love for me and love for God. One thing I distinctly remember is the way they always made sure we said grace whenever I was sharing a meal with them. We would hold hands, bow our heads in reverence to the Almighty, and then pray together. They, along with my parents, taught me at a young age the importance of being sincerely grateful for my food and asking God to bless it. While I now say a prayer in my own words, I will always remember those timeless words that my Grandma, Papa, and I would say in unison: God is great, God is good. Let us thank Him for this food. By His hands, we are fed. Give us Lord our daily bread. Amen. “While there may be a day set aside as a Grandparents’ Day of Prayer,” said Evie Karlsson. “It doesn’t mean we slack off the other 364 days! We do need to sound the alarm though and rally the troops to take this thing called intercession and prayer seriously. We can never retire from this job! And it is without a doubt, the number one job we will ever have!” “I absolutely love being a grandma – ‘Bestemor,’ as our three grandchildren Max, Liv and Linnea, call me,” added Evie. “Pelle and I see our role as one of total and unconditional love for these three and their parents. We drop just about everything to spend time with them and learn about their little world. Stretching out on the floor with them with their toys, singing and playing instruments with them, or
watching them see or do something for the first time is just so purposeful and meaningful and of course, tons of fun. But probably, above all, we see our role as ‘prayer cover providers,’ where we call on the protection of the blood of Jesus over their lives each day, all day as the Spirit of the Lord inspires us to do.”
According to the Grandparents’ Day of Prayer website, thousands of grandparents have united in prayer on National Grandparents’ Day for the past four years, praying for their families. On September 13th, everyone will have another opportunity to
join together in prayer across the nation and around the world. There is no better way to honor grandparents than to encourage them to pray with and for their children and grandchildren. The mission of the Christian Grandparenting Network is to encourage positive relationships between grandparents and grandchildren, with Jesus Christ at the center. “The greatest blessing of my life isn’t a Grammy
nomination, a Dove award, or a hit song,” said Kathy Crabb Hannah. “The greatest blessing of my life is to be committed to pouring into my grandchildren: to know them, to love them, to enjoy their individual personalities and gifts. Many people count their trophies and place them on the shelf. My trophies have lots of blue eyes, freckles, some have curls, others straight blonde hair, a red head for good measure; they cry tears, love chocolate, and make unbelievable messes. They eat mounds of pasta and love my green beans. These 14 pairs of shoes at my front door are worn by the most important people in the world: my grandchildren. My trophies are not on a shelf; they’re in my kitchen helping me cook or in my pool splashing and playing. My trophies have names: Eden, Cameron, Hope, Hannah, Ash, Kate, Eli, Logan, Emma, Charlee, Gracie, Eva, Sophie, and Ean. Come November the number will change to 15, as we welcome Eda Beth Crabb into our world. I can’t wait!” “My highest duty is my greatest honor: prayer for my grandchildren’s safety, direction, and happiness,” Kathy continued. “The prayers I pray now will bathe them for the rest of their days. I believe that my grandchildren will lead masses to Christ. To watch them gives me the pleasure of watching my own kids 25 years ago, plus some. The anointing already rests on them. I thank God for their gifting to sing, write, pray, at such young ages. I don’t take it for granted.” This September, join Evie, Kathy, and thousands of other families in prayer. National Grandparents’ Day is more than a holiday; it is a time to give thanks to God for His abundant blessings and to pray together. Through prayer, a lost soul can be found. Through prayer, a broken heart can be mended. Through prayer, a shattered life can be restored. Prayer is the key to the matchless grace given to us by God. Reflections with
“The Sun’ll Come Out Tomorrow”
Every three years, I need to get a certain number of continuing education credits in: 36 to be exact. Usually, I have them done well in advance, but due to an increase in travel for ministry, I did not have the opportunity to complete any of the hours until the deadline was fast approaching.
I met Annie! Well, the dog, not the movie character. I cannot tell you enough what a joy this was-- a heartwarming and touching experience. In addition to being a traveling Gospel singer, I am also a Doctor of Chiropractic, as well as a Certified Fitness Trainer.
Flipping through the latest chiropractic magazines and perusing various sites online, I began my quest for affordable, nearby seminars that I could attend. With none of the dates gelling, I was thrilled to receive a postgraduate update from my Alma Mater, offering a radiology seminar just a few hours away. I quickly signed up, not only because I needed to, but also, because I wanted to! I had heard this speaker before; he is very dynamic. Additionally, he wrote, and very well I might add, two of my favorite textbooks that I still use today. From New York to Connecticut, I went. Meanwhile, in the state of Tennessee, there’s a beautiful dog, Annie, fighting for her life. About halfway through the informative seminar, the father/daughter team, well actually the father, who had a momentary lapse of concentration, announced that his thoughts were with his son and his son’s
dog. She was mercilessly shot at eight times by a reckless intruder while Phil, the owner, was out. Annie is a six-yearold Blue Tick Pyrenees mix and she sustained four of those bullets. Following news coverage of her injury and her 20 to 30 per cent survival rate, a Go Fund Me page (http://www. gofundme.com/Save_Annie) was set up to raise funds for her extensive surgeries in hopes of not only saving her two debilitated limbs, but also, her life. Upon hearing this, I picked up my cell phone and, underneath the table, immediately began searching for the story. I typed in all the keywords I could remember and bingo, there she was, picture and all. One look at those chocolatey eyes and it was love at first site. From there, I went to Facebook to find the owner so I could keep up with her story there as well. Found him and we became friends. Told him I was in his father’s seminar and just learned of the story and wanted to help. I did. I prayed, gave finances and shared her information. Little did I know that Annie was actually going to help me. With her steadfast resilience, all documented meticulously by her owner, Annie is miraculously overcoming all obstacles in her way. Still, there are some high hurdles to cross, but she is in good hands and well on her way to recovery. Every day, I read her updates. Phil called her a community dog because so many people helped towards her recovery, and it really came to feel as if Annie was in your own neighborhood after a while. Speaking of which, I happened to be in Annie’s neighborhood recently. While there, I posted on social media that I was recording a Christmas CD in Nashville. The owner saw the post and asked if I would like to visit with Annie. Well, leaping lizards! Of course I wanted to visit Annie. A good friend agreed to take me, and I was off. I could hardly anticipate visiting this furry wounded warrior who did nothing but protect her home from an intruder when she was maliciously shot at. As I arrived, Annie’s owner greeted us at the door and gave us a quick debriefing on tones, movements, and attitudes to employ (and not employ) when meeting Annie—similar to anyone suffering post-traumatic stress disorder. We nodded our heads in agreement and went in for the inspiring MeetN-Greet. There she was, lying on her white pillow next to the red velvet couch, just like I had seen in all her updates for the last two months. But within, moments of us entering, she was up and wagging her tail, heroically hobbling along on her two good legs and two casted legs to come over and greet me. “No, no, Annie, stay there,” I thought “I will come to you!” But no, it was almost as if she knew how loved and supported she was and she wasn’t going to make any bones about showing her gratitude to everyone who walked through that door. After our hellos and sniffs and the like, Phil wanted to show us Annie’s progress. He did so by having Annie go
down a long hall and come to me when I called her. I was overjoyed and all smiles as she limped down the hallway. There was no mistaking the clunking heart-wrenching sound of the two heavily casted right legs against the hardwood floor as she valiantly accepted the task—a sound that even a hearing-impaired person, such as me, could appreciate. I cheered her on and was moved to tears (but managed to save them for the car when I was out of her sight). I could hear the “Rocky” theme song swelling in the background of my mind with every step she made. Determination, spirit, perseverance and heart-- this dog had it. It was startling to watch her struggle, but then to see the actualization of how her father (i.e. owner) tended to her every need, as the Heavenly Father tends after the needs of His children (Ps 103:13)—especially when we are wounded—is, in a word, amazing. Despite her disability, or handicap, be it temporary or permanent, Annie is no less valued or loved than any other of God’s beautiful creations. In fact, she is a testament to His loving provision (Matt 6: 26). She still has purpose and brought all of us together, as tragedy often does. There will always be the what ifs, if onlys and whys, the frustration, sadness, and madness, but I can’t help but to believe—really believe—it’s all part of a greater plan. It was no accident I went to this this seminar... I needed to meet Annie. She taught me that the sun WILL come out tomorrow.

Dusty Wells is a man of many talents and multiple skills, from his speaking engagements across the country, to traveling and encouraging various artists in the Christian music genres. Dusty has a passion that is evident from the moment you meet him. Dusty is a man who remains passionate and secure in the calling and destiny upon his life. He has come to realize the importance of finding purpose and clear direction for not only his life, but also the lives of those he comes in contact with, no matter what stage of life they may be in. Growing up in a very dysfunctional home, surrounded by all types of abuse, Dusty had every excuse to be a failure in life. He grew up on welfare, having to steal his daily necessities of life at times, being surrounded by drugs, alcohol and pornography. He was raised by a mother who was married multiple times, living in a housing project on the wrong side of town. But in the midst of what seemed to be complete devastation, God had different plans of success for Dusty. At the age of 14, a precious couple took time out of their own lives to invest in Dusty…thus leading Him to the Lord. His life is a testimony of God’s relentless love and deliverance, and is one of the most triumphant stories told in modern Christianity. Dusty is confident in the fact that if God can do it for him, He can do it for anyone, no matter the situation. Dusty and his wife of 33 years have four children, and two grandbabies with one more on the way. They make their home in Nashville, Tn. Joan Walker grew up with music in the house and first heard Southern Gospel in her early teens. With almost a quirky (some may say ‘weird’) need to make sure words are spelled correctly and the apostrophes are in the right place, she enjoys proofreading the articles for the SGN Scoops magazine each month...and looks beyond the letters and commas to the wonderful words each writer has written. Joan counts it as a blessing in her life to be part of SGN Scoops!

After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a Mass Communication degree, Craig Harris has been in the journalism field for more than 15 years, working daily as both a photographer and writer at one of the largest non-daily publications in the state of Tennessee. He has experience in feature writing, news writing, action photography, portrait photography, web-site maintenance and layout. Craig has been a part of numerous awards, both collective and individual honors in the journalism field. He has had articles published in numerous newspapers and magazines on a variety of subjects, most notably in the world of sports. Craig’s Southern Gospel interest dates back for approximately the same time span, having closely followed the industry since the later portion of the 1990s. He also performed for seven years with a local trio prior to joining the SGN Scoops staff. David’s distinctive sound and his ability to blend perfectly with a variety of vocalists has made him a valuable commodity on live events as well as in the studio. His compassionate and gentle spirit makes him more than an artist, it makes him a great friend! David began singing at age 6 with family. In 1990, he filled in for the Speer Family and later that year he became the lead vocalist for The Trailblazers. In 2002, Staton filled the lead position with Priority. While with Priority, the group was the resident gospel group at the Silver Dollar City theme park in Branson, MO and they performed for over one million people in one year. After the group disbanded in 1995, David continued to write for artists in many different genres of music while occasionally performing solo. It was during this time that his song, “Every Knee Shall Bow”, recorded by Dottie Peoples, was nominated for a Grammy Award. His song, “Together We Can” was adopted as the national theme song to bring awareness to violence in schools. The music video (Together We Can) that featured many Atlanta based artists was shown at the 1999 Grammy Awards show, which helped launch the careers of artists like R&B’s Jagged Edge, India Arie, and 4.0. In 2004, David partnered with Mike LeFevre to form The LeFevre Quartet. During the seven years that he was the lead vocalist, the group had many hit songs and won many awards. After leaving the LeFevre
Quartet in 2011, Staton began working on a solo project and also began singing with Palmetto State Quartet. The group appeared on television and toured with country music superstar, Wynonna Judd while Staton was there. Through the years, artists like Gold City, Jeff & Sheri Easter, Kingsmen, Singing Americans, Dixie Melody Boys, Imperials, Dottie Peoples, Ball Brothers, LeFevre Quartet, Palmetto State Quartet, Priority, Trailblazers, The Greenes, Ivan Parker, Brian Free and many more have recorded David’s music. From 2005 to 2013, Staton was the Executive Vice President for Song Garden Music Group in Nashville, TN. In recent years, the National Quartet Convention has asked David to be a part of an industry advisory panel to help artists who need assistance and training. Not only has David made a mark as an artist, he is passing on his talent and knowledge to new artists, influencing and shaping the future of Gospel music. Kelly Nelon Clark is the daughter of Gospel Music icon, the late Rex Nelon. As part of her father’s group, The Nelons, she blazed a musical trail bringing a fresh new sound to the traditional Gospel quartet style. That sound and style influenced a generation of Gospel music performers and can be heard today in the styling of groups like the Martins, Point of Grace, The Crabb Family and more. As The Nelons broke new ground, the Gospel Music industry repeatedly recognized their excellence. The group won four GMA Dove awards as well as multiple awards from readers of Singing News Magazine. Kelly was named female vocalist of the year on four occasions and received favorite alto vocalist award 3 times. At one time, Kelly was the most awarded artists in the history of the Singing News Fan Awards. The music industry at large also recognized The Nelons with 3 Grammy nominations. Today, Kelly currently performs throughout the United States, Canada and Europe with her husband and two daughters as The Nelons. The group is featured in hundreds of churches and concerts each year. The Nelons have been part of Gaither Homecoming concerts sharing their music with thousands of Gospel Music fans in sold-out arenas across the country. Marcie Gray was born and raised in sunny California, yet always dreamed of moving to Tennessee. She had planned to move to the south as a young adult and sing with a gospel group, after being inspired to do so by her Great Uncle, Alphus LeFevre. Though it took longer than she had expected, in 2011, her dream of moving east finally came true when her husband, Don, retired from the CHP. They packed up their two youngest daughters, three dogs and two horses and headed east. What a blessing to finally be where the tea is sweet, the Southern Gospel music is plentiful and there’s a Cracker Barrel on every corner! Spend ten minutes with Marcie and you’ll learn that she is rarely lacking for something to say. Her passion for Southern Gospel music, combined with her instinct to be behind the camera, makes journalism a very enjoyable outlet for that “Type A” personality she has been affectionately labeled with by her family and friends. Marcie is a worship leader, vocalist and songwriter. She has directed choirs of all ages and given voice lessons for many years. Her solo CD, “Carry Me Home” was released in September of 2014. Hi, my name is Dean Adkins and I am honored to be a part of the SGN Scoops family. Perhaps some background information would be beneficial. I am sometimes called “Professor” because I was a Biology professor at Marshall University for 31 years and I retired in 2004. I grew up listening to gospel music (or as it is now termed Southern Gospel Music) and many of my relatives (Adkins, Toney, Booth families) are gospel singers/musicians. I collect records, primarily LPs, and SGM related items. Over the years I have studied the history of this genre. I would like to use these articles to describe events and the mind-set of the 1950s and 60s – sometimes called the Golden Age of Gospel Music. Alpha Source Media Group is lead by Candi Combs and was born out of a strong desire to support the ministers who share the gospel on the highways and byways of life. Combs says, “These artists and their families spend their days selflessly bringing the life-changing message of Jesus to crowds large and small. We want to do all we can to support them!” In 2015, Candi will have a law degree from Liberty University and will provide a full range of legal counsel. This component will bring the highest level of support to those who also desire legal representation. Bethany Cook is a 26-year-old from the great state of North Carolina. In her early years, Bethany grew up on the road as the daughter of an evangelist. In her teen years, the family came off the road and made their home in Burlington, NC where her father is now a pastor. Being an avid Southern Gospel fan from an early age has enabled Bethany to meet many different artists and make many friends along the way. With a history of devotional writing for family and friends, she looks forward to sharing her writing and allowing her readers to see a little more into the lives of Southern Gospel Music artists. Bethany is a Medical Assistant for a large Cardiology Practice in North Carolina.
