Raviolo NYC RAVIOLI COCKTAILS BUBBLE BAR NEW YORK CITY The original brief was to create a fun and inventive hangout at 7th Avenue South in Manhattan where authentic Italian comfort food would be reconstructed into ravioli and other bite-sized dishes served with drink from the Bubbles Bar. In the design we used a teal blue that dominates the space, wood for some architectural elements and a bright marble that we used for the bar and tables. As an accent material we added brushed bronze and fabrics with mid-century geometrical texture.

Living - Restyling LIQUEURS & DELIGHTS MILAN, ITALY Living was established in May of 2003, inside of the Ex Postal Office characterized by a privileged view on the splendid scenery of the Arco della Pace. There was a desire to create a place alive both inside and outside, where the relaxing comfortable environment could cohabit with the vitality of a dynamic space, where sophistication and charm of typical Milanese style would blend into conviviality and natural Argentinean spontaneity of the owners. The recent restyling gave new vitality to the ambience maintaining the internal distribution which includes the bar counter as the protagonist of the place which works as a joint between two areas of the restaurant. To emphasize this important point it was decided to replace the old coating with stripes of Nero Marquina marble cut in diamond-shaped section. The same material was used for tabletops and coverings of bathrooms where the tiles of different height and width create a geometrical pattern. The chairs of enclosed forms rest on tapered hardwood legs, upholstered with cotton fabric of green shade by Dedar, summarizing in itself the formal elegance and comfort of the whole restyling. The environment is completed and characterized by walls which encase two rooms, decorated by panelling of painted wood, and frame large seats of retro shapes which are embellished with a hand-woven handicraft silk with oriental motifs.

Mulino a Vino ITALIAN WINE RESTAURANT NEW YORK, USA
Mulino a Vino’s Davide Scabin had originally planned to move to New York in 1990 to work at Tony May’s restaurant, San Domenico. He was just 25 years old. Yet family reasons prevented him from coming. Near Turin, he founded Combal.Zero, a restaurant that was awarded two Michelin stars. And 25 years after his thwarted American adventure, he opened a restaurant in the basement of a nondescript building in the Meatpacking District. Appearances can be deceiving. With a closer look, one sees infinite details that make this restaurant’s atmosphere both unique and comfortable. There’s the impressive gleaming marble bar with a view of the open kitchen. You can’t help but take note of the rustic tables in the brick-walled dining area and the labyrinth of small rooms. Diners are encouraged to select their preferred wine before ordering their meal. The cuisine includes traditional Italian dishes with unusual twists.

El Porteño Arena ARGENTINIAN RESTAURANT MILAN, ITALY
El Porteño 2 follows in the footprints of the first restaurant, transporting diners into an amazing world far, far away. It’s truly a taste of Argentina. The restaurant’s furnishings, such as sideboards, doors, window shutters, even refrigerators, have been imported as well as the legendary Argentinian hospitality. At the entrance, diners can make themselves comfortable at the huge bar. Yet even before reaching the bar, diners are welcomed by the cordial yet always discreet staff that will provide for their every need during the evening. A overall style connects the restaurant’s rooms but each has its own particular theme. The flooring alternates between Cementine porcelain stoneware in typical patterns and wood surfaces. The main dining room offers a clear view of the glassed-in kitchen. It leads into a series of small, private rooms. These cosy nooks have carpeted floors and bright walls that have been tastefully decorated. A restaurant in which every little detail has been carefully studied. The juxtaposition of colors and materials surprise the diners. A celebration for the senses, from the savory food to the eye-catching atmosphere.

La Bottega del Vino ENOTECA & BISTROT MILAN, ITALY
La Bottega del Vino is a wine shop but also a small bistro in Milan, located near the Sempione Park and the Civic Arena. The challenge was to inject new energy into a site that had been neglected for years. The narrow, elongated shape of the floor plan was the starting point for the architectural makeover. The space was divided into multiple, fairly intimate, interconnected zones that maintain dialog with the surrounding urban context through floor-to-ceiling windows. The wall and floor coverings are clearly wine-related. It is a celebration of wine. Wine not only to be tasted, but also wine that adorns and warms the setting. Wine in many different-shaped bottles fills antique sideboards and tints bottles in the most disparate shapes that, like objects of modern art, embellish the walls of the bistro.

El Porteño ARGENTINIAN RESTAURANT MILAN, ITALY
To translate the sensations of a distant country into architecture was the design challenge for this restaurant that brings a piece of Argentina to the heart of Milan. Hub of the elongated and irregularly-shaped floor plan is the kitchen: spacious, modern, streamlined, completely open to view, around which a series of interconnected rooms unfolds. In all different sizes – from the small, intimate private room, to the spacious main room, the wine cellar (also open to view), and the bar nestled in a corner, that is the last of the rooms on this virtual tour. Different rooms but with just one voice, because here everything speaks of Argentina, starting with the floor tiles, the designs typical of the former Spanish colonies, and on to the furnishings – the time-worn sideboard, the chairs, the refrigerator in the bar, the entrance door, the tall shutters that shade the ceiling-high windows, all the pieces restored and delivered from across the ocean. Bringing with them a warm, familiar atmosphere.

Ricci Milan ITALIAN BAR & RESTAURANT MILAN, ITALY
Like a phoenix, the new Ricci in Piazza della Repubblica rises from the ashes of its former self in an entirely made-over version – new materials, new colors, a new way of interaction. Crossing the threshold, the sense is that of entering a large, high-ceilinged box. Brown is the prevailing color. The bar dominates the space – geometric, massive with its 10-meter length, its perfectly joined strips of wood that slide into one another creating, along with the custom lighting, a skillful interplay of luminosity and dark. A theme that re-appears in a portion of the ceiling and wall of the bar area. Muted, artificial light descends from the ceiling, like rain from the sky, through dozens of rods that form the light fixtures. This is the place for talk, tasting, meeting, a place that runs parallel to the frenzy of everyday life. In partnership with Studio Scagliotti.

Refeel COFFEE & MORE MILAN, ITALY
Refeel is right near Porta Romana at the beginning of via Sabotino. Set back from the street, the location gives it a mellow feel and a magnificent view. The various dining options and settings showcase the establishment’s metamorphosis from the early morning into the evening. Tables for enjoying breakfast, brunch or a light dinner are located to the right of the entrance along an extended wing. Happy hour, in contrast, is centered in a larger space, ideal for the typical evening crowd. The buzz is focused on the bar and the pair of dark chocolate Chesterfield sofas. Refeel’s enormous windows look out on via Sabotino and via Agnesi. This backdrop/sun protection makes Refeel even more delightful inside and attractive from the outside. Contrasts come into play with the selected finishes. Antique oak covers the horizontal surfaces, including the floor and ceiling, while exposed, rough cement has been applied to the vertical surfaces. Subtle accents include tables with chrome-plated steel structural elements and lights that stand out against the two primary surface materials. The 12-meter long bar made of exposed cement set off from the building’s wall breaks up the corridor, giving the space a new feel.

NooN RESTAURANT & COCKTAIL BAR MILAN, ITALY
NooN Restaurant & Cocktail Bar redefines the concept, bringing together excellent food, entertainment, contemporary art and design in a single location. Relax in style in this incomparable spot that offers five different settings: a cocktail lounge, a buffet restaurant, a full-fledged restaurant, a cigar bar and a night club featuring DJs. The color white is the overarching theme at NooN with a special touch added in each area. In the cocktail lounge, a warm atmosphere is created with low tables and upholstered chairs in beige, brown and orange. In the buffet restaurant, the furnishing include tables with brushed steel bases and black Corian tabletops. Diners settle into black and beige chairs or red leather booths. The restaurant’s open space is alluring with the Simone D’Auria-designed lamps and the spectacular and fragrant fresh flower arrangements. For an after-dinner drink, NooN welcomes guests into one of Milan’s largest cigar bars for a 1940s Cotton Club feel: soft lighting, deep inviting couches and foot rests upholstered in cowhide, crocodile and ostrich leather. Last of all, the night club stands out for its brilliant white color that continually changes thanks to special effects lighting. Even the bathrooms feature carefully selected materials and accents creating a one-of-a-kind space. In partnership with Studio Scagliotti.

Living LIQUEURS & DELIGHTS MILAN, ITALY
The project’s goal was to design a space in which the interior reflects the life outside. Living offers a cozy atmosphere that’s relaxing yet is also a happening spot that’s full of energy. It’s a blend of the refinement and allure of Milan with the fun-loving spontaneity of Argentina, offering guests a variety of experiences. This dichotomy defines the establishment: the space’s organization, the interior design, the choice of building materials, as well as the manner in which the business is managed. The Living experience changes during the day with various dining options and settings depending on whether it’s late afternoon or evening. The casual restaurant occupies two sections along the restaurant’s outer edges, in contrast to the chic, central bar area that pulsates with energy from the gathered guests or those passing through. Living’s large windows open onto Piazza Sempione and guests can gaze at the Arco della Pace and its park. The spectacular view enhances the experience for the guests while granting those outside a clear look at the action inside. The interior design mixes precious, elegant textiles and damask fabrics with late 1920s furniture and restored modern art for a surprisingly harmonious yet contradictory style that truly reflects the owners’ personalities.

Pinocchio TOP 30 PROJECTS @CHILDREN’S LIBRARY CONTEST COLLODI, ITALY The elaboration of the project for Pinocchio library in Collodi focuses on creating a social point for children and city’s habitants as well. As a starting point, we considered the history of Collodi and in particular the way in which Pinocchio’s story influenced and gave form to the city. The project brings together multiple functions such as places to meet, socialize, study, perform and hang out. The focal point of the design is a series of public spaces that connect the sides of the river and provide an access to the area and facilities from both Via delle Cartiere and Via Pasquinelli. The main volume of the new library next to the old papermill consists of an underground insertion along the river and a rectangular main body above the ground. The existing retaining wall along the river makes part of the façade for the underground floor, while the roof of the volume is a garden which is naturally integrated with the existing terrain level. It aims to hide the big volume which is to be discovered by visitors once they go further towards the river. A new shop located between the library and the papermill is capped by a roof connecting the buildings between each other and creating a covered space underneath and framing a public square which serves as an entrance from the city to the territory. This space is continued to the opposite side of the river by a bridge which takes the visitors to the auditorium, the media spaces, the café and an underground parking. They form the second square providing another gathering point and a public space. The second link between the two sides is an extended corridor that hosts a gallery space and crosses the river on the 2nd floor level connecting the papermill factory with the media space building.

ORIGINI CONCEPT FOR GRUPPO MONDADORI STORES ITALY The concept proposed for the new stores focuses on the user, pursuing the goal of creating a meeting place, a reading place, a place where to work and interact, via the web or directly with other Mondadori customers, caching and bringing to the present the spirit of the architect Oscar Niemeyer’s project that gave rise to the prestigious Mondadori headquarters of Segrate. The library is no longer a transit space for the purchase of books but also a place for rest and comparison, memory and research, relaxation and commitment, an area that is a reference for those who want to share the Mondadori philosophy and not just buy a book. The central objects of this space are the tables and the bookshelves which are inspired from reinterpreting and transposing the Mondadori headquarters project prospect, by playing the rhythm of the project and transforming the structure of reinforced concrete into light oak wood. To integrate the project and give dynamism and sociality to the Mondadori stores, a bar has been added, where you can read and at the same time have a drink at the table. Light and vegetation complete the project of contemporary space related to its origins.

Linee CAMOMILLA INNOVATIVE SHOP CONCEPT
The starting point of our project is the concept and vision of Camomilla as a brand that is looking in the future but has traditional roots. We took the direction towards the generation of millennials (people in the age of 15-35) who now are becoming the main buying force in the world. In our design we offer the use of different kind of materials that represent the concept. Travertine represents classical, chic and elegant side of the brand, while copper is more modern and refers to the young and urban side of Camomilla. The lines of copper repeated in different ways in the interior give the interior contemporary feeling. We used soft warm colours to give a comfy look to the interior. Millennials are targeted also on the marketing level. We propose the activities that provide the personal experience and relationship with the brand. Shop offers a creation of a personal style: store stylists get the customers dressed up, give advises about how clothes should fit and take pictures in the neighbourhood or in the shop on customer’s phone so she can immediately upload new look on social media. Another activity that allows the brand to have an interactive relation with the customer is a virtual dressing room. With this technology, customers can try all the clothes they want. With an infinite variety of combinations available in a virtual dressing room, it is possible to pick the look and shop it immediately or share it in social networks. These solutions allow the shopper to create a 3D version of him/her using information taken from scanning devices. Clothes are then displayed on the big touch screen mirror, where the customer can personalise the model by selecting different items and colours. AREA 120 sqm

Linking Rhythm MUSEUM EXTENSION JYVÄSKYLÄ, FINLAND The focus of the architectural concept is to form a connection between Alvar Aalto museum and the Museum of Central Finland that would accompany their historic and symbolic significance. We tried to bring Alvar Aalto’s design motives and principles into our project after identifying them in his works, interpretation and further application in our design. In this way, our project prompts to add a value to the existing two museums complying with their quality and eminent origins. The existing wooden structure on the second floor of Alvar Aalto museum performs as a dominant element for the main scene of the whole exhibition space. Therefore, it serves also as the point of attraction for visitors who enter from the opposite side and would need to cross the whole exposition in order to reach and see the whole panorama of timber stricture. Geometry of the extension is inspired by these timber bars in a form of repetitive lines, thus creating axis for the new plan. They create four “corridors” that contain passages, shop and other spaces. In the interior the prevailing material is timber that emphasizes the vertical direction inspired by the curving timber volumes in Alvar Aalto museum. Vertically a sequence of natural wooden materials addresses the theme of nature. In contrast the horizontal in the interior is defined by a dark an decently soft carpet material. It expresses a feeling of the soft ground by softening the steps of visitors and absorbs the sounds thus creating a warm and intimate atmosphere.

Ideas competition for redeveloping and enhancing the village of Gallio’s center TOWN CONCEPT GALLIO, ITALY The relationship between man and the land: the project proposes a clear network that would connect the historic center and adjacent areas considered important for the growth of the city’s center. An expanded, cohesive village would improve the social and cultural life as well as provide tourism benefits. The proposal focuses on creating multipurpose public spaces that promote social interaction. This would require addressing the road system, creating bike paths, tackling integration projects and implementing new designs for green spaces. Playgrounds, sporting facilities and public spaces would also be constructed. The reconversion of these spaces would instantly create a well-defined network while maintaining the significant differences in the respective zones’ design and use.Nature emerges as the defining element of the biking and walking path. Its colours and glory vary, allowing those travelling along the route to never tire of the mountains’ beauty and seasonal changes. Sculptures representing the valley’s native animals complete this postcard-perfect path. The artwork celebrates the area’s fauna, the finishing touch for a true nature trail. Interpretive signs about the animals and nature are key to the path’s success. The various zones will be linked through the pavement and street furniture. The interplay of light and dark colors will accentuate those places where people will stop, gather and meet.

University Island - Follow Up! UNIVERSITY CONCEPT POVEGLIA, ITALY The history of Poveglia, an island in the Venetian Lagoon, can be traced back to the invasion of the Lombards in the sixth century AD. Fleeing residents, particularly from Este and Padua, took refuge on the island. Poveglia prospered until the War of Chioggia around 1380. Intensified fighting forced the population to retreat to nearby Venice. The island later served as a temporary hospital for contagious diseases and a quarantine station for maritime travelers until World War II. Finally, a geriatric hospital was located on the island. It was closed in 1968.In 2016, the Young Architects Competitions invited architects to submit proposals in a design competition for University Island. The project would redevelop Poveglia Island, transforming it into an outstanding university campus while redefining the university experience. The project takes advantage of the restricted and uniform geography typical of an island. The university emerges as the link between the modern and historic architecture with a path serving to unite the island. The path crisscrosses Poveglia, highlighting the various opportunities and offering continually changing scenery. A red band metaphorically and physically links and identifies the island’s hubs. Nature and history are in harmony; the past meets with the future in a single, indivisible island. The new buildings, spread across 25,000 square meters, are located in the island’s interior and can be discovered by following the pathway.

Tramezzino, caffetteria Gabriele D’Annunzio BAR CONCEPT MILAN, ITALY A space for getting a scrumptious bite to eat and drink while enjoying one of the area’s best views. Savory cuisine will be served in a chic environment that enhances a Milan landmark. The space will be adapted to meet the typical needs of both a dining establishment and a cultural gathering spot, maintaining a consistency and a compatibility with the project’s overall context. The concept behind the space’s design will be “innovative tastings,” namely theme evenings and wine and food tastings. A classy environment that will offer clients a range of options around the clock: breakfast, lunch, happy hour and evening gettogethers during which a range of quality products will be spotlighted. Particular emphasis will be placed on creating a space that is both comfortable and environmentally friendly. In fact, the full-length windows will be protected by sliding shutters made of wood laths set in a metallic frame. These “brise soleil,” as called in French, will shield the interior from the sun, which will keep the space at the perfect temperature and reduce energy costs. The counter will feature a series of separated refrigerated compartments. This will allow products to be divided according to category to avoid any risk of cross-contamination, which is particularly applicable for special menu items created for those who suffer from food allergies. The proposed triangularshaped tables will pay homage to the “tramezzini,” the famous, triangular Italian sandwiches from which this establishment will take its name. The tables also will be well suited for a flexible, dynamic seating plan. Different configurations can be created for various sized groups and the particular time of day. A single table will be ideal for one person; two tables can be combined to seat two comfortably; multiple single tables can be put together to create a gigantic dining table that encourages socializing. The simple, geometrically shaped outdoor furnishings will add a natural touch to the overall project. Tables and chairs will dot lush, green zones, creating a relaxing environment for clients seeking to fully enjoy the Darsena, Milan’s recently revitalized ancient port. WHERE MILAN, ITALY

School in Monsummano Terme SCHOOL CONCEPT MONSUMMANO TERME, ITALY The task was the construction of a new building to be used as a kindergarten and primary school with infrastructure and services. The existing school and kindergarten are divided and located in several locations. The positioning of the new school aims to improve the area for all the citizens. The new facilities can be used not only as a school during the school hours but also as an entertainment and cultural centre which serves the whole village of Cintolese. The new school relates to an education that takes place not only through classical studies but also through the experiences that the child acquires in the surrounding environment. For this reason the space is thought rich and stimulating both on the level of volumes with contrasts of full and empty, and of internal organization. The school is single floor and is composed of five sections of kindergarten and fifteen classes of primary school. The building consists of two types of volumes: one is set of blocks with educational activities, services and facilities, another one is a transparent link which unites the whole school and functions as an internal public space.

Sittard, towards a Slow City 3RD PRIZE @ SET FOOT IN SITTARD CONTEST SITTARD, NETHERLANDS Sittard is a city which has rich history, culture, food. In order to play a perfect role, it has certain problems need to be addressed. We propose the slow city idea as a goal of the urban renewal. Our proposal is an invitation and manual for Sittard to become a slow city. WHAT IS SLOW CITY? Città slow (Italian for slow city) is a movement started in Italy. Slow city’s philosophy is inspired from the slow food concept. Slow cities promote high-quality healthy living with maintaining identity, humanity, environment and history. It’s about a different and sustainable way of development. PRINCIPLES AND VALUES l. Look for the best knowledge of the past with the best possibilties of the future. 2. Maintain the local identity and increase the value of what is truly local (customs, unique food, handmade productions). 3. Planning for strong communities and urban resilience. 4. Healthy connection between the people and the place. WHY SLOW? Sittard, as numerous other cities, has been negatively affected by globalization and large urbanization. Setting the slow city as a goal aims to develop Sittard in a localized way based on what it has. The city enjoys rich history, culture, food that can be refreshed and promoted in new ways and that can be a reference for urban renewal. It also has vast green landscapes and less than 50.000 inhabitants which are few of the requirements to become a slow city. HOW? Our proposal is composed of 5 physical and non-physical strategies at different levels and scales. Those strategies will integrate to address the issues of Sittard and to achieve the urban renewal in order to reach the goal of slow city. 5 strategies ~ solving issues ~ urban renewal ~ slow city - Framewrok: We culminated the proposal by a framework that aims to clarify the mechanism of applying the work on the ground.

Soliera cambia, cambia Soliera 2ND PRIZE @ SOLIERA CONTEST SOLIERA, ITALY Soliera: a proposal for an urban redevelopment project that would improve daily life through increased socialization. The Soliera project proposal is framed around two very different urban areas: via Roma, which runs north-south; and the buildings comprising the quadrangle created by via Grandi, via Marconi, via Menotti and via Garibaldi that would be united through the redevelopment of Piazza Sassi. Via Roma, which provides a central, north-south access point to Soliera’s center, stands out from its surroundings for its typical urban design that offers many redevelopment options for stimulating socialization: public gathering areas, spaces for citizen services, meeting points, playgrounds, areas for sitting down or for simply passing through on a relaxing stroll. In contrast, the urban area encompassed by via Marconi, via Grandi, via Menotti and via Garibaldi has an irregular shape. The design for this area of Soliera would involve a further division into quarters. This would offer additional opportunities for integration and interaction resulting in a widening of the existing historical center. The work to be carried out on Piazza Sassi would involve reclaiming the actual piazza, which today is largely unused, and transforming it into a public space ideal for relaxing and socializing, even during its restoration. The transformation would begin with an overhaul of the piazza’s surface, eliminating uneven sections and steps with the goal of creating even walkways on the piazza, including under the arcades, for a completely handicapped-accessible zone. Areas for gathering and socializing are a recurring theme in this project. These spaces are designed for encouraging integration into the community with citizen services and greenery incorporated into an overall design that doesn’t offer just a single center but many. The area between via Mazzini and via Menotti that is currently used as a parking lot is envisioned as the perfect space for street fairs, markets, events and/or shows as part of a larger greenbelt project for the surrounding, mostly residential buildings.

Invent a Square MARINA CONCEPT MARINA DI PISA, ITALY
The project is developed around two axes. These are the piazza’s main crossing points that serve to divide the area into sections with various offerings. Entering the piazza from the left, the plans call for the creation of a green space, a small park and botanic garden filled with native species. The irregularly shaped area offers paths that accentuate the perspective and depth. A seating area shaded by mast-like awnings partially divides the central section into two “corridors.” In addition, there’s space in which market stands could be situated. The central section extends all the way to the seaside promenade, the ideal spot for relocating the bar. After undergoing a complete renovation, the bar could become a year-round meeting place. The piazza’s layout was planned in such a manner to require those entering the space to choose and follow a specific path that would lead them to discover the piazza’s various offerings and views. The materials selected work well together and, above all, with the surroundings: the various pavement types that identify particular routes; the pavement and the outdoor furniture made of light-colored wood that calls to mind seaside wharfs; and the selection of plants that are native to the Mediterranean. The mast-like awnings that shade the seating area also recall the traditional wood buildings on stilts typical of this area. The spaces are further defined through the outdoor furniture and equipment made of exotic wood and weathering steel, the latter used for all the lights.

It shows two buildings with different size and height, rectangular plant, pitched roof, quite sloping in this case, typical geometry not only of that place but also typological theme strongly established in the construction culture imagery as a building archetype. The supporting structure is made of laminated timber portals. The external perforated metal sheets cover works as a double skin and cover almost entirely the building; the “skin” is cut, where needed, to favor a consistent natural light access and to create prospective views inside the Library. The perimeter walls are wooden, while transparent parts have been made with low-e glass. The building employs the greenhouse principles, where the light entrance and the consequent buildup of heat due to solar radiation, contribute to the comfort of the users, integrating light and heating from mechanical systems. The main entrance of the Library is on the Toldboldgade, it opens into a teak essence wooden paved square, with a floor light line indication that guides the visitor to the reception. The Library portion that includes the bookshop and the café is a meeting point for everyone who wants to continue to read a book in a pleasant night, or to have a nice conversation and a glass of Hyldeblomstsaft. On the ground floor there is the children area with multimedia totems with monitor, headphones, game console, and further to them there are tables with pc to consult and read the online available books. At the first floor there are: an area to consult the available titles both books and e-books, a room for audio/video materials and a reading/studying area. To complete the floor al location: toilets and a relax-zone for a more comfortable reading. The reading room has a privileged view on the Opera House. The second floor includes multimedia and reading areas.

Building Renovation RESTAURANT CONCEPT DESIO, ITALY
Renovation of the former Desio prison as a restaurant and bar. The decision – sparked by the uniqueness of the job - was conservative and comprehensive of the existing layout to take advantage of the linear geometry and monotony of the all the facade perspectives created by the surrounding walls, through a system of coverings that would meet the objectives of the project design and would allow for harmonious integration of the fundamental features of the project into the existing building, like: technological innovation, organic nature, visibility and quality of use of the entire complex. A distinctive element is the sail-like covering, formed by an awning that, on the southern exposure, is a canopy made of polycrystalline silicon solar panels. The awning enfolds the entire building, creating functional spaces for loading and unloading, for staff in the area in the back, and attractive spaces around the terrace.

Private House Renovation Project PRIVATE HOUSE MONZA MB, ITALY
The job involved the joining of two apartments and a redefinition of the space, its functions and circulation. The spacious living room is the dominant element, here natural light from the large, arched windows and overhead light from the new skylights blends perfectly with the artificial light from the deep-set skylight that surrounds the entire living room. The first floor is set aside for the sleep zone, where bedrooms and bath morph into a single space punctuated by the exposed wood beams. A black, oval, cast-iron tub dominates the space and black becomes the common thread in an ongoing interplay of contrasts with the white elements in the room. Different purposes that dialog in a single space is the recurring theme in the entry, too. The design choice is to leave the exposed beams of the ceiling and to play with the natural light, allowing dialog between the various rooms through windows and skylights. Presented as a prototype at the Salone del Mobile of 2015, Gigi Lamp is presented again in occasion of the 2018 edition, in an updated version: the diffuser is made of aluminum, not polycarbonate as before, in pastel colors ranging from yellow to Tiffany blue up to black. The structure is available both in polished chrome and brass. The light source is dual, oriented upwards and downwards. An object in its essentiality is charming and suggestive. The hourglass shape refers to the archetype of a timeless object and the materials add a contemporary and technological touch thanks to the use of a modulated LED light source. Milan Unica 26th Edition FAIR + ROADSHOW MILAN, ITALY Milan Unica: Save the Planet is an ecological and visionary slogan that draws attention to the cornerstones of life: Water, Air and Earth. Milan Unica devotes its exploration into Spring-Summer 2019 trends through creativity applied to the themes of Water, Air and Earth. It does so by juxtaposing these elements with three different personalities: the great French oceanographer Jacques Cousteau who championed, back in the day, ecological battles defending deep-sea flora and fauna; the Russian ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev with his ethereal, agile and poetic dance in a space evoking the Northern Lights, and finally the Masai, a nomadic people, proud of their traditions but, above all, inextricably connected to the Earth, mother and origin of all civilization. Each trend is introduced by a brief emotional and imaginary story that is followed by a more technical description and explanation of the key concepts of that topic. Finally, the descriptive part on colours, materials and accessories follows.

Milan Unica 25th Edition FAIR + ROADSHOW MILAN, ITALY «Cinema is the essence from which dreams are made», said Charlie Chaplin. Cinema as magic and especially as the art of aesthetic and contemplative reflection is the source of inspiration for the four trends that MilanUnica has identified for Fall-Winter 2018/2019. PAOLO SORRENTINO DIRECTS DYNASTY: “From Hedonism to Trumpism” MOOD: Accents on opulence made from a wealth of materials, baroque inflections and swerving couture but with an ironic nonchalance when dealing with luxury. For a lustrous yet practical effect. PEDRO ALMODÓVAR DIRECTS VICTOR VICTORIA: “The glamorous Agender” MOOD: Collages of fabrics and lingerie-like network and overlapping evening and day pieces, contrast of different weights with a vibrant infusion of colour and a crossover between male and female, for an unconventional style that occasionally shifts into masquerade, intended as a party game. STANLEY KUBRICK DIRECTS SHERLOCK: “The English classic with a fulfilling twist” MOOD: Speed, pragmatism and elegance: this is the triad that characterises the theme. Appreciation of tradition and daring: new urgent needs lead to developing unreleased material and the true evolution of research arises from the dialogue between those with visions and those with needs, between those who create and those who consume. QUENTIN TARANTINO DIRECTS LITTLE BUDDHA: “The spirit of an extreme traveller” MOOD: The simple, ritualistic and almost rustic world of Nepal is intertwined with the technological and fast one of American and blends into a style of an unbiased traveller able to survive in extreme situations and while at the same time remaining elegant in his wools, furs and mohair.

Milan Unica 24th Edition FAIR + ROADSHOW MILAN, ITALY The pleasure of a journey, the dream of bringing together people of different cultures, the game of connecting past and present, these are the pillars on which Milan Unica has based its research on the trends for the next spring-summer 2018 season. Three macro themes have emerged, the result of a combination between a historical character and a true, yet idealized place, both for its glorious past and for its relevance in the collective imagination. NEFERTITI IN IBIZA - The legendary queen of Egypt has been imagined while strolling around the shopping streets in Ibiza, where models, actresses, pop singers and international celebs parade in a glowing dimension of party-making and freedom of expression. The amethyst purple, the green shades and red hues of ancient Egyptian paintings, the feathers, the floral decorations, the symbols of the sun and the moon can be traced in the kaftans, in the prints and in the furniture of the homes in Ibiza. The binding link between Nefertiti and Ibiza is the love for a sunny and motherly spirituality. KAZIMIR MALEVICH IN SORRENTO - The Russian artist was transported to the South, in the warm atmosphere of the Campania region: the square and round silhouettes, the vanishing points, the white spaces in contrast with Malevich’s yellow ones are those of the 3D geometric pattern tiles, the Sorrento majolicaware and flowers, the privileged destination for writers, poets and philosophers like Nietzsche, Goethe and Dickens. Here, the Sorrento majolicaware, lace, tatting and small fishing dories recall a tradition of craftsmanship and direct contact with nature. In fact, it was this ubiquitous expression of creativity that attracted people from all over the world, making Sorrento - from the ‘50s to date - a key destination for the most cultured and refined international jet setters. CARLO MOLLINO IN TEHRAN - The architect from Turin flies to Persia to follow the traces of Iranian culture and Tehran, that has been transformed into a sort of earthly paradise with heavenly plants and palaces filled with mosaics and celestial representations, where the shah was used to host parties and entertain international celebrities - from Walt Disney to Indira Gandhi - thus contributing to creating a closed circuit between the Eastern and the Western world, which has always resulted in an enrichment of the world’s greatest civilizations and, thus, becoming a source of inspiration for any form of creativity. In this theme, the rose windows of the Persian churches create a dialogue with the precious decorations of Mollino’s furniture, the organic shapes so much beloved by the architect recall the nature-inspired patterns of Persian carpets and, also, of the seductive royal atmospheres of Turin and of the shah’s court.

Milan Unica 23rd Edition FAIR + ROADSHOW MILAN, ITALY It is by the creativity of six great personalities that we’ve been guided to create a story of trends that would express the sublime side of elegance. These six personalities are apparently different from each other but only as regards their expressive language. No slogans, no abstract themes, therefore, to define Milan Unica’s trends for the next autumn-winter 2017/18 collection, but the real names of the people whose creativity and genius, internationally recognized, represent a huge concrete reference, which is a source of inspiration for the design of new wefts and warps, and the creation of new accessories. AREA TREND BURRI PIANO Burri and Piano make us reflect on the power of raw materials and their poetic capability of transforming it. In the field of textile and accessories, this means maximum processing and experimentation in order to produce fabrics, buttons, labels and sophisticated endings, pleasany to the touch, so rich to look like architectures. AREA TREND FONTANA HOKUSAI Fontana and Hokusai, instead, are the alpha and omega of elegance. The black and white perfection of the Tao. Sharp cuts as opposed to beguiling and stormy curly waves. As fabrics, rich in embroidery and in laser cuts, revealing fullbody cloth in contrast to hypermodern shaped and sophisticated multi-layered accessories. AREA TREND ALBINI PORTALUPPI On the other side, Albini and Portaluppi rely on lines and details, on the reinterpretation of the classics but in a less serious and more contemporary way. In a progression of symmetries, geometry games and prints which fully summarize the concept of the unique Italian excellence.

Contemporary Dummy DESIGN OBJECT Designed Luca Amendola and Gianluca Geroli in collaboration with Vetreria Re Contemporary Dummy is a project devised by the creative flair of SGS Architetti Associati and by the skill in working the material of Vetreria Re. Luca Amendola and Gianluca Geroli, who have always had as their distinctive trait the contamination between fashion and design, and Dario Re, the owner of the namesake company, in business for over thirty years, have joined forces to give life to an idea which, more than a project has become a work of art. A life-size Dummy, Contemporary Dummy, in which are expressed a whole range of different production methods and types, of which the Vetreria Re is skilful interpreter, and the taste of the Studio SGS Architetti. The purity, aesthetic rigour and transparency of glass are exalted by the different decorations, including distinctive, such as the full-body tattoo. Contrasting materials – glass and polished aluminium for the joints. An object that comes to life, wearing clothes and accessories full of character. A yin yang in constant equilibrium out of which a modern hero is born, the vital centre of whom is highlighted by a red colour. The Dummy is made of 8 mm thick extra-clear glass; the single pieces have been cut with a waterjet machine on the basis of a dxf graphic file. After being water cut the single elements were hand-polished to obtain a ground but not sharp rib with a pleasant appearance. To give the dummy a threedimensional effect, each shaped element (arm – leg – torso – head) was glued using special Uv glues. The glazed elements were assembled by means of 10 mm thick polished aluminium pads of different diameter which simulate the individual joints and give the object stability. For the tattoos, the sanding technique was used followed by decoration. Aesthetic research and a quest for stability in an object with a total weight of 30 kg – 25 of which glass and 5 steel/wood.

Milan Unica 22nd Edition FAIR + ROADSHOW MILAN, ITALY The Area Trend is at the heart of this Italian textile trade show. It came about following a selection process that involved exhibitors who brainstormed and developed themes with the guidance of excellent directors: Stefano Fadda, Milan Unica’s art director, and SGS Architetti Associati, which designed the Area Trend’s layout. The concrete result can be seen in Area Trend, a museum-style exhibit in which the concept and staging demonstrate the incredible research and work behind every single textile sample and unique button. It’s a sensory experience - visual and tactile - that follows a course, as if you were in a gallery, past frames in all sorts of sizes and shapes showcasing textiles and materials in a creative manner. With the Area Trend project, SGS Architetti Associati demonstrates its expansive vision and its ability to provide in-depth consultations spanning the entire time frame of a project. ABYSS Depth as an inspiration // Everything floats; nothing is motionless in the deep sea populated by animals and plants of evocative consistency and magical colours. Everything here is extraordinary, imaginative and poetic. NATURE AND ARTIFICE A mosaic of real and artificial geometric landscapes // A bird’s-eye view, an aerial mapping of different areas in the world, showing geometric patterns of natural landscapes with well-defined outlines, cut off by human interventions or rather by urban interruptions and concrete breaks. What is artificial is as real as the natural. AFRICA PUNK Primitive and natural urban fabric // It is the black magical and sensual Africa, with its amazing sunsets and its big contradictions. A powerful universe in terms of charm and impact on reality. PSYCHO BIT A hallucinatory trip into arithmetic progression // A theme constructed by two words, “psycho” and “bit” which lead to two matched worlds: the psychedelic, crowded with its blaze of colours and the technological, result of a geometrical mosaic.

Milan Unica 21st Edition FAIR + ROADSHOW MILAN, ITALY SGS Architetti Associati was selected to design the Trend area for the textile trade show Milan Unica. Beginning with the 2015 shows presenting the Autumn/Winter 2016-2017 collections, Stefano Fadda of the company What’s Cool is the new creative director with the responsibility of identifying trends. The Trend area is being completely redesigned. The display will be inventive and novel. In fact, a sensory journey is being created. Images and sounds will bombard the visitor during this trip that will reveal the latest trends. Four fantasy worlds each representing a theme that highlights the indelible bond of textiles and fashion. Superstudio Piu’, 1,200 square meters of exhibition space, will be transformed. The journey will begin in area containing multiple screens. Interviews will be projected in which people declare what is considered “cool”, the perfect introduction for rooms dedicated to the trends mentioned. We first arrive at Arctic Tale where salt hills evoke a fantasy world of colorful ice-caps and thin air. Next, Folk Land where we see again hills but in earthy shades covered with trees, leaves and various arboreal elements to recall nature and landscapes. Graphic Wave has a completely different style. The installation’s square tubular structures and two-dimensional pavement and wall decorations create a space noteworthy for its strong black and white contrasts, geometrical effects and intertwining lines reminding us of the latest in digital technology. We make our final stop in the Play Room where primary-colored balls are strung along transparent wires. The rainbow of colors creates an optical effect, reminiscent of old-fashioned wooden toys and playing, not just the act but also the state of mind. At the end of the journey, visitors can relax in the lounge, sliding onto a sofa and getting a bite to eat. A video further explores the rooms’ various themes.

As an added service, the hospital’s ground floor will have both a library and a restaurant. The master plan was created in partnership with the Cordero&Partners studio.

Pirelli PZERO STAND PITTI UOMO FIRENZE, ITALY
The stand was designed for one of the leading men’s fashion events: Pitti Immagine Uomo. The challenge was to organize, in a surface area of 63 square meters, areas dedicated to product display and a reception space to discuss the new Pirelli collection. The space had to be identifiable with and emphasize the PZero philosophy. So, the idea was to use materials, shapes and colors reminiscent of the brand, like a red tire, used to frame the displays, furnishings in optical white MDF and geometric designs related to the image of Pirelli, like the cylindrical central module designed to host the hanging items. In partnership with Studio Scagliotti.

Villa Rasini Medolago Building Renovation HOTEL LIMBIATE MB, ITALY
The decision was made to restore Villa Rasini Medolago, an 18th century building that had fallen into disrepair, with the intention of turning it into a hotel and site for major events. The project called for renewal of the ground floor and first floor of the main building and refurbishing of adjacent buildings, as well as the creation of an underground auditorium comprised of two halls, measuring 1,500 and 600 square meters, respectively. Rounding out the project was a 1,300 square meter swimming pool in the spacious gardens and areas suitable for cultural and entertainment events. The reception area, hall, reading and meeting rooms occupy the ground floor; the first floor is exclusively for rooms. Some significant elements include a new stairway, strictly symmetrical to the existing stair, for access to the first floor rooms on the south side of the building, and the conservative refurbishing of a completely frescoed room with two-story ceilings. Composition choices were aimed at achieving maximum integration of the front entrance to the underground spaces with the existing architecture and the surrounding environment.

Moreschi Store Firenze STORES FIRENZE, ITALY The designer shoe company, famous for its “Made in Vigevano” footwear and leather goods, sought a completely new look for its store in Florence, the birthplace of art and culture. The store is located on Piazza della Repubblica in the heart of the city. Shoes, leather goods and coats for men and women are presented in a space of 70 square meters. The fashionable and luxurious products made by only the finest artisans display the brand’s characteristic elegance. SGS Architetti Associati in partnership with Studio Scagliotti substantially changed yet did not completely overhaul the space. The result is a store that’s even more welcoming and sophisticated. The space maintains its distinctive play between filled and empty spaces, light and dark. Yet a significant transformation has taken place with the addition of minimal brass structures and mirrored backdrops, an innovation first introduced in the pilot Moreschi store at Milan’s Malpensa airport. The Florence showroom is spread across two floors. The staircase linking the floors offers another imaginative display space. One of the walls is covered in leather arranged in geometric shapes. Mirrored niches in the wall display items. Moreschi’s stores in Italy are famous for their staircases: in Rome, it’s snow white and spiral; Milan’s store features ramps that alternate between being open and enclosed by rosewood-paneled walls; finally Florence has a tunnel-like space with a marble floor and leather-covered walls. In addition, the Tuscan capital’s flagship store features furnishings made from the most precious materials, such as rosewood, ostrich leather and Dark Emperador marble for the flooring. Moreschi Showroom SHOWROOM MILAN, ITALY
The Moreschi Showroom is just steps away from the Moreschi Milan flagship store. The key words for this project were elegance -- which has always been synonymous with the brand -- and linguistic simplicity, expressed through the use of architecture at the service of the object being displayed. The showroom occupies a historic building with amazing views of the city center, filled with natural light; the layout is regular and is comprised of a single room, part of which is used for display and part for offices, all of which blend together as a single unit. The products are displayed on individual floating shelves that seem to come straight out of the walls and, with their random placement, punctuate the walls without ever taking away from the object on display. The use of light shades on the walls, warm coffee-color stoneware tiles on the floor, and the shelves in wood and bronze all combine to maximize the overall effect. In partnership with Studio Scagliotti.

Moreschi Store Roma STORES ROME, ITALY
In via Frattina, in the heart of Rome’s shopping district, in a building from the mid-1800s the Moreschi brand inaugurates the first monobrand store, completely renovating its image. A new display format, two separate entrances, one for Men and one for Women, that frame the products on display through a dynamic sequence of positive and negative spaces. The sales area is laid out like the path through a museum, skillfully-lit, so the uniqueness of the products emerges out of disarranged order. Central to the sales area is a sinuous, helical stairway leading to the first floor, almost entirely dedicated to the Moreschi outerwear and knitwear collection. The use of luxurious materials, Vratza marble for the floors and glossy lacquered ebony for the furniture, a lacquered finish on the walls and various skillfully integrated light sources lends a comfortable, cocoon-like feel, emphasized by the use of vintage armchairs. Moreschi Store Milano STORES MILAN, ITALY
After Rome, the first Moreschi flagship store opens in central Milan, in Piazza San Babila. The boutique spreads over several floors and reflects the core values of the Moreschi brand, consistently committed to creating high-quality, artisan-crafted products. The prized materials employed range from the rosewood furnishings to the cowhide and dark Emperador marble on the floors, from the ostrich leather on the vintage armchairs to the hammered leather on the other chairs, all lending a comfortable, cocoon-like feel to the setting. Dynamic energy is the keyword, embodied in the projecting rosewood shelves that disrupt, change thickness, and morph into containers that exhibit and envelop the object like a jewel, heightening its uniqueness. They seem to follow the rules of disorderly conduct, but only apparently, because nothing in this store is left to chance. Ceiling to floor display cases, open to the interior of the shop, hung with drapes that can be closed when necessary, with a theatrical flair. In partnership with Studio Scagliotti.

Nanan Roma STORES ROME, ITALY
In the heart of the city, just a few steps from Piazza di Spagna and via Condotti, the beating heart of the capital’s shopping district, lies the Nanan store. As in Milan, so in Rome -- the language of form revolves around the circularity of the spaces. Circular spaces in succession that interlock, barely touch and seem to envelop the objects they display, just as a mother’s embrace is protective and comforting. The neutral cream shade on the walls and wood floors, the sumptuousness of the decorations obtained through the measured use of frames, the warm, diffused light from the ceiling spotlights and from the grand Murano glass chandelier, the shelves that sometimes jut out and others that are recessed into the niches carved into the walls, lend this store a warm and slightly retro tone and make the image of the Nanan brand recognizable around the world.

Nanan Milano STORES MILAN, ITALY
Occupying the site of a former jewelry store in Piazza Virgilio in Milan, it is the first ‘jewel’ in the Nanan brand. The unusual circular installation reflects the graphics of the logo and at the same time symbolizes the protective, delicate maternal embrace. Through a sequence of circular spaces, the intention was to create the ideal setting for viewing the products and maximize immersion into the neo-world of Nanan. The use of frames from different sections lends a retro flavor, eliciting the feel of a luxurious French home. There is no disconnect between the purity of a contemporary approach to the use of materials and the sumptuousness of the decorations. The impact of the decorative elements is softened by the choice of a monotone color scheme -- the dramatic use of white, for both the floor and wall finishes, the furnishings and the lighting fixtures. Diffused light -- except for the Murano glass chandelier that simulates a cascade of white ribbons, as if suspended in air -- contributes a sense of lightness.

Morellato Flagship Stores STORES MASTER LAYOUT LONDON & NEW YORK CITY FOCUS MORELLATO NEW YORK Located in the French Building, one of the most famous 5th Avenue edifices, the Morellato store occupies 150 square meters, has 4 shop windows and hosts the firm’s collections of jewelry, watches, leather and writing tools. A key location from which to convey the quality of Italian-made goods, the innovation and contemporary style that have spelled success for the brand around the world. The store follows the concept of the other stores in the same line, making use of core elements like dark floor coverings (preferably wood, but in this case it is wood-look stoneware tile to prevent deterioration caused by severe weather conditions), the blue and white MDF furniture and the wave of ceiling lights (Kundalini). MORELLATO LONDON This Morellato store is located in London’s Westfield Center (White City), Europe’s largest luxury mall with approx. 250 shops, and 35 restaurants spread out over 17.5 hectares [about 43 acres]. Given its upscale location, the store’s design contains some innovations not common to the familiar look of the Morellato chain. Specifically, pictographic displays were designed in the display cases, geometrically offset wood portals that hold, at eye level, product displays and, as the height increases, have the dual purpose of composition and technological elements. Pirelli PZERO Concept Store STORE CONCEPT MILAN, ITALY
After careful analysis of the PZERo products and drawing upon the iconic symbols derived from the industrial activities of the parent company, Pirelli (tires, fiber optics...) the idea was to create a design that consistently reflects and enhances the product. The concept ‘revolves’ around the energy of “rollable” shapes and fiber optic technology; with the simplicity of a white/black/steel color scheme in contrast to the complexity of the lighting system. Special emphasis is placed on the multi-sensorial perception of the PZero atmosphere: the luminous effects, music, tactile perception of the various materials, the input of the message through film and images, all interact with the customer, who has a varied and multi-faceted experience, while waiting, receiving input, relating. The concept calls for an area reserved for cultural initiatives; the display case is interpreted as a company-client “interface” for occasionally communicating about a specific product or theme.
