Sunday School For Ages 5-12

with Dr. Ruth Ashrafi Sundays to March 22 10:00-11:00 AM (New Sesson in April) Shaarey Zedek is proud to introduce its new Sunday school program: CHAI: Learning for Jewish Life. Solidly Jewish, educationally sound and beautifully and colourfully illustrated. The Jewish sages teach us that “the world stands on three things: On Torah, on Avodah, and on G’milut Chasadim”. These pursuits – study, worship, and deeds of loving-kindness – provide the framework within which Jews build their relationships with God, with one another, and with the world. Accordingly, Torah, Avodah, and G’milut Chasadim serve as the core of the CHAI curriculum, providing students with the foundation for a lifetime of Jewish learning. Our students will learn about these three strands and discover how they relate to their lives. They will learn the stories in the Torah, explore questions about God, and learn about implementing Jewish values. The students will also learn about the Jewish holidays. Because the curriculum spirals, students study something new about each holiday every year. Each year has its own focus for Torah, Avodah and G’milut Chasadim. Coupled with our Hebrew program, your child will receive a solid, all-round Jewish education. The program comes with attractively illustrated workbooks and classroom materials. Parents can follow their child’s learning through regular updates. $120 ($100 for Members) Siblings ½ Price | Register

B’nai Nevi’im: Children of Prophets Chavurah Held on the following Wednesdays at 8 PM: February 11, 25, March 11, 25 We have now embarked on a journey through the Former Prophets—as depicted in the books of First and Second Samuel, and First and Second Kings–featuring the likes of the prophets Samuel, Nathan, Elijah, Elisha, and others—not to mention King Saul, King David, King Solomon, and their royal descendants, right down to the destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE. These often obscure books of the Bible offer a fascinating glimpse into the early history of Israel, and the complex and harrowing history through which we were guided by both Prophet and King, dozens of centuries before our own complex era. “Even if they [Israel] are not prophets, they are [nevertheless] the children of prophets” (Babylonian Talmud, Pesachim 66b).
