Dogwoods and
Springt ime
Dogwoods and Spring What a perfect combination! Not only do they make yards and the landscape so beautiful. There is also a spiritual meaning behind the dogwood. Legend has it that the cross of Christ was constructed from a dogwood tree. At that time, legend tells, that the dogwood was the strongest and finest wood. But, after the crucifixion, the dogwood would never grow strong or large enough to construct a cross. It would be small, bent and twisted. It’s blossoms will be in the form of a cross. And in the center of the outer edge of each petal there will be nail prints, brown like rust and stained with red, and in the center of the flower will be a crown of thorns. So, all who see it will remember. Legend or not, it is a beautiful tree, and still can be a spiritual reminder as can everything else that is “renewed” and reborn in the Spring. So many animals give birth and life in the Spring. We personally feel a renewal of sorts in the Spring. After long cold winters, we are ready for Spring and brings a burst of energy and new life!
Legend or not, the dogwood is a gorgeous tree that blooms pink or white petals, which always reminds us of new life and new beginnings
Iced Coffee or Ice Tea ? Coffee and hot tea both are popular in America. So many gourmet coffee shops popping up over the years that caters to both the coffee and tea lovers. Do the hot coffee and hot tea drinkers switch over to ice coffee and ice tea in the warmer months? I have to say for me, I do both. I have not become the fan of iced coffee yet. Although many around me are running to the coffee shops and specialty drink shops for iced coffee, I am still a hot coffee drinker, even in summer months. I do love the ice tea, I am not a sweet tea drinker, even though I live in the south. I have always had my coffee and tea with out cream, sugar or artificial sweeteners. You can still have those tea parties with ice tea or better yet, cater to both preferences serve hot and cold tea. Ice tea on a back porch or tea party sounds so wonderful right now.
Iced Coffee Are you a fan of the Iced Coffee? You can easily make ice coffee in many different flavors at home. You can use instant coffee or fresh brewed. Here is a quick recipe to get you started
1/2 cup instant coffee granules 1/2 cup boiling water 4 cups chocolate milk 2 cups cold water 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk Ice cubes
In a large bowl, dissolve coffee in boiling water. Stir in the chocolate milk, cold water and condensed milk. Serve over ice. serves 8
Garnish your fresh brewed tea with fresh peach and mint for an added refreshing flavor!
Love the Ice Tea in Warmer Months? Here are a few tips to help you brew the perfect ice tea! For best taste, it is best to brew tea leaves in loose form rather than using a small tea ball or infuser. This allows the leaves to fully open and release all their flavor. Use 1 teaspoon of whole leaf tea for each 6 ounce cup you are brewing. If you want the convenience of using a tea bag or sachet, simply use one for every cup of tea you are making. The key to good tasting brew is to make sure your tea bags are always fresh. The tea in commercially produced tea bags is usually made of small pieces of leaves that tend to become stale faster than the well-stored loose leaf variety. Loose Leaf Brewing with hot water: The traditional way to make iced tea is to start with a hot, freshly brewed concentrate. Measure enough tea leaves in a saucepan to make at least a double-strength brew. Pour boiling water and steep about 5 minutes for black, herbal and oolong teas and 2-3 minutes for green and white teas. (green and white teas water should be right below boiling) Strain the brewed tea into a pitcher containing an equal amount of cold water. Stir and pour into glasses filled with ice cubes. Brewing with cold water: Brewing with cold water makes a really nice smooth tea. Fill a large glass pitcher or other container with 2-3 tablespoons of loose tea leaves and 4 cups of cold water. Stir well and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight. Strain the tea leaves. Pour into glasses filled with ice. Best tip: Enjoy on the porch while relaxing!
Favorite Shortbread Cookies These cookies are delicious and buttery. Just right for a tea party! Preheat oven to 350 Ingredients: 1 cup butter softened 1/2 cup sugar 2 cups sifted all purpose flour 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp real vanilla extract colored or plain sugar to sprinkle cookies with Beat butter til light and creamy. Beat in the sugar. Sift the flour with the salt and baking powder and fold into butter mixture. Roll dough out to 1/2” thickness. Cut with a 1-1/2” to 2” round or heart shaped cookie cutter. Alternatively you can roll the dough out and cut into 1-1/2” squares. Sprinkle with sugar (I like to use pink sugar if I’m making heart shaped cookies, red or green sugar for Christmas cookies and plain white sugar the rest of the time). Bake on center rack in preheated oven for 15 - 20 minutes (until the edges and bottom of cookies are lightly browned). Store in an airtight container.

Sunburst Pina Colada Bread I had a bounty of sunburst squash from only one plant, so I adapted this from a recipe in an old cookbook, Makes a yummy moist tropical treat. My granddaughters love it! Zucchini can be substituted. 4 cups all-purpose flour 3 cups sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 ½ teaspoons salt 4 eggs ½ cup olive oil ¾ cup greek yogurt (or 6 oz. Cup) 1 teaspoon coconut extract 1 teaspoon rum extract 1 teaspoon vanilla 3 cups shredded sunburst squash (heaping or packed tightly) 1 cup ( 8 oz can) crushed pineapple with juice ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans Line the bottoms of three greased and floured 8”x4” loaf pans with waxed paper and grease the paper. (don’t skip the wax paper—I did the first time and the loaves were almost impossible to remove from the pans) In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking power, baking soda and salt. In another bowl, combine eggs, oil, yogurt, and extracts. Stir in dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in shredded squash, pineapple, and nuts. Transfer to prepared pans. Bake at 350f for 50-55 minutes or until toothpick come clean in the middle of the loaf. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans. Gently remove waxed paper. Can be frozen, wrap tightly in wax paper then seal with foil or freezer paper.

FIRE IT UP! With warming of temperatures, comes the firing up of the grills! I am the outdoor cook in our family. There are so many reasons I love to cook outdoors. Food taste better on a grill (my opinion of course) Less kitchen clean up! I just love to be outdoors! There are several different types of grills. And each person prefers one over the other. We use to be a charcoal grill family, until we went on vacation and there was a gas grill on the deck. Once we used that, we bought a gas grill as soon as we returned home. There was no looking back. That is when I took over as the backyard cook. I was not a fan of the charcoal grill , at all. Too much trouble. When you were ready to grill, you were out of charcoal. Or, it took forever to get to the right temperature. Hard to maintain the temperature and when you were done, the fire was finally hot enough. Safety is important to remember when grilling. Children away from the grilling area rule #1. Make sure you have proper utensils on hand. You can get a serious burn just by using short utensils. Those grilling utensils have long handles for a reason! Make sure your meats are being properly cooked. A meat thermometer is great to have, but even better to know the correct temperatures. Learned from experience. I had my thermometer and I had to stop and google correct temperatures on the internet. Safe meat temperatures: Chicken 165 degrees; Hamburgers 160 degrees; Steaks 145 degrees; Pork 145 degrees Another important safety issue. Make sure you are handling your cooked meats with clean utensils, vs, the utensils you handled the raw meat with. Same for the platter. Get a clean platter to take your meat off the grill. vs. the platter that had the raw meat on.
You can be very creative with grilling. You can grill a variety of meats, seafood, vegetables and yes, even fruit. Fresh pineapple is wonderful grilled! Fresh broccoli crowns, mushrooms, peppers, onions, and yellow and zucchini squash makes a great vegetable mix. I place the vegetables in a sheet of foil, then, I sprinkle olive oil on top and shake on some lemon pepper, fold up the sides and place on the grill. I grill until the broccoli becomes tender. Preparing delicious and healthy side dishes make a grilling experience even better. The side dishes that are popular with our family are of course, the grilled vegetables, pasta salad, and what I call “no bake- baked beans. You make the same way you would make in the oven, but on top of the stove. You do not heat up the kitchen that way. I make my pasta salad with whole wheat pasta, which works for our family. I add fresh baby spinach and cherub tomatoes for extra antioxidants and a burst of color! Pasta Salad Pasta of choice - Spirals are fun 2 -3 tablespoons of Light Mayo with Olive Oil Garlic seasoning - season to preference Pepper - to taste 1 Cup of Cherub/tomatoes cut in half or diced tomatoes big handful of fresh baby spinach - chopped 1 Cup of shredded cheese 1 avocado diced Boil pasta according to directions; While pasta is cooking, chop your spinach and tomatoes. In a large oversized bowl (best for mixing) mix your mayo, spices, and spinach. When pasta is done, drain. I let slightly cool, but I place in bowl while still warm. Mix pasta with mayo mix. Stir in tomatoes and then finally the avocado & cheese. The pasta is still a bit warm and the cheese slightly melts. I serve this warm, We always have leftovers, which then we serve cold. You can add extra vegetables and extra ingredients to make this your own recipe
Make it a Picnic So, it is time to take all that great grilled food, wonderful sides and make it a picnic! To qualify as a picnic, in my opinion, all you have to do is just be outside. Backyard qualifies! Eating outdoors has always been a treat for me, and now for my family. You can make your picnic extra fun by playing games while you are grilling or even after you eat. Always an extra help to have someone entertain the kids while mom cleans up the dishes. So for our family a quick game of kickball in the yard after eating is fun. For the adults after dinner coffee or even cocktails are on the menu. Sit back an relax and enjoy the family time. When you are outside, you leave all the housework, business, homework, etc. inside the house. And just enjoy the great outdoors. Going to a park for dinner is fun also. If you have a park close by that has picnic tables, or better yet bring a blanket and sit on the ground. Picnicking in the park is great! If your friends are not available and you are alone. A picnic for one is perfectly fine! Grab a great book and enjoy your dinner and a great read outdoors! In the summer, every Sunday, our town hosts a concert in the park. Which blankets and picnic baskets are a must! If you are not dancing by the end of the night you are catching fireflies!
Do not forget Dessert No picnic is complete without dessert! My opinion of course! Fresh fruit qualifies as dessert. But, if you have a real sweet tooth, nothing says Spring or Summer better than key lime pie, or any refrigerated cool pie for that matter. Lemon cream and coconut cream are pretty good also!
Easy Key Lime Pie 1 can sweetened condensed milk 1â „2 cup key lime juice or 1â „2 cup lime juice 1 small container frozen whipped topping, thawed 1 graham crumb pie crust Beat milk and lime juice in large bowl with mixer on medium speed until smooth and thickened. Fold in whipped topping. Spoon lime mixture into pie crust. Refrigerate about 1 hour or until set.

Drying your own Rose Petals There is nothing more special and rewarding than making and enjoying your own potpourri from roses grown in your garden. This technique is by using a food dehydrator is simple and a lot faster than air drying the petals. As a passionate cottage gardener, I have many varieties of old English and David Austin roses and I have dried all of them. The one thing to remember is that most of them will dry quite a bit darker than the original color. Most white roses will dry an ivory to yellow tone. The pictures here I used a dark pink rose and pure white roses. As you can see, the end result is a lovely burgandy wine and ivory mix which is one of my favorite mixes. Step one: Pick your rose petals just as the rose is at it’s peak bloom. Separate the petals from the stem and lay in a single layer of the tray. Stack several trays and you can dry lots of petals at once. (be warned that your house will smell of lovely roses all day!)
Step two: Drying normally takes 30 minutes as long as the petals are in a single layer. They will be dry and brittle. If they are soft and pliable, dry for a few more minutes. You’re finished and you can mix in a few drops of fragrant rose oil and pack sachet bags or fill bowls with the petals. When I am drying a big quantity of petals, I will place them in zip lock bags without the oil for later use, as the dried petals will last a long time.

Two Fun and Easy DIY Projects Supplies: 1 can of Chalkboard Paint 1 painting sponge wood tags and or clothespins I found my wood tags on Ebay but I have seen them in the craft stores also. Depending on the tags, you might have to give them a light sanding to remove any whiskers on the edges. Be sure to brush the tags so they are free of dust before you begin to paint. Using the paint sponge, apply a coat of the Chalkboard paint to one side of the tags. On these tags, I painted both sides and the edges with the Chalkboard paint, but you can leave them plain or apply a different color to the back of the tag. A little sanding might be required if you have high ridges of paint once it’s dried. I used about three to four coats of paint on these tags and the last coat went on smooth. When you are happy with the results, you can add ribbon ties and decorate the tops with small roses or flowers if you want. You can also use a couple different colors of ribbons for some variety. These would make great gifts for teachers, place setting cards or gift tags for any gift. I decided to try the Chalkboard paint on a clothes pin and I really like the effect I got. I think this looks really sweet and is a nice project to do for or with young children. Again, you can paint the clothes pin a different color before adding the Chalkboard paint. Try and think of all the different ways to use these, for example, cookies in a bag to a teacher, sweet treats for a child or a friend. This idea would work so well on a personalized gift for a friend. Most of all, have fun with this and add your own personality and touch. I hope you enjoy this and look forward to sharing a new idea next time.

Decorating with Vintage Stamped Linens Vintage linens with lovely stamped designs are often found at rummage sales and thrift stores. The designs were meant to be hand embroidered by an industrious house wife. I know I’ll never embroider them, but that didn’t stop me from buying them and stashing them away! So rather than keep them in a drawer I decided to use them just the way they are. These linens go particularly well with farmhouse and prairie decor adding a rustic charm to your table. Remember that the designs were meant to be removed once the embroidery was complete so I don’t recommend washing them.

Wining with Cindy Spring is In the air. The happiest time of year is when the cold winter air slowly turns into a calm crisp breeze, and springtime is upon us, and the cool calm colors of springtime and flowers are starting to bloom. My all time favorites, tulips, hyacinths, and ranunculus, all make such a pretty centerpiece for your parties, and spending time with family and friends outdoors! We love to plan menus around good wine, and this spring we found a delightful Syrah from Yakima Valley Washington. The label says… “It’s called Kestrel WineMaker Select. This wine showcases it’s winemaker’s skill in crafting libations that explore the creative edge of this craft and are produced in very limited quantities. Our Co-ferment Syrah uses the ancient technique of fermenting both the white Viognier grape and the red Syrah grape together in the same vat. Hence the term coferment. The process results in a wine processing incredible elegance, structure, and fruit driven complexities. All in all a superb dinner wine” We fell in love with the label and the gorgeous bird on it. We served this wine with steamed mussels as a starter, then a mixed mandarin spinach salad, with a pear vinaigrette, a lovely new dressing from Trader Joes and then a Spring goulash of garden vegetables and chicken. This wine is lovely for a spring meal, or just dessert, of course that may include chocolate!

Scentimental Moments with Mimi One thing Mimi inherited from her grandmother was a love of perfume. Mimi’s Granny had worked for years at the perfume counter in the Bonwit Teller store on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. The love of perfume ran in the family; Mimi’s mother had followed in Granny’s footsteps. She had worked in the mega cosmetic store which opened just steps away from where Bonwit’s had been located. So it wasn’t just the scent that fascinated them; it was everything about perfume. The bottles sparkling in the light on a mirrored tray, the aura it could create, and most important the way it made a woman feel. Even the history and lore of some perfumes appealed to Mimi and her mother. They always looked forward to spending an afternoon with Granny as she sat in her blue velvet chair talking about her day at the perfume counter. Now that Granny’s gone, Mimi and her mom still spend time in the velvet chair talking about the power of perfume.
Gladys Ann and Tom Gladys Ann Schnitzenberger and Tom Lanahan were in love. For Gladys Ann it was an allconsuming love. For Tom it was a wondrous mix of bliss and lust. She was over-indulgent, spared no expense and knew no boundaries. He was swept away, filled with a desire - no, it was a need - to please her, to fulfill her every whim. She never gave any of it a second thought. Theirs was an indulgent, reckless union. It was clear to everyone: Gladys Ann and Tom were madly, deeply in love. Unfortunately, they were both head over heels about Gladys Ann. They met in one of Gladys Ann’s favorite places, the Roosevelt Mall. She was a vision in purple. Even her almost white hair had a lavender tint. Gladys Ann was blissfully unaware that it resembled her grandmother’s hair color. Her dress was purple with a swirl of lavender circling the full skirt. Her 4 inch heels matched perfectly. Her faux amethyst earrings sparkled under the bright mall lights. Even her lips and nails were lavender. Gladys Ann had put the outfit together because it was Good Friday. Her fashion sense remained in tact even on religious occasions. “I wanted to honor this day by wearing something subdued ” she said when a co-worker commented on her outfit.
Gladys Ann had finished spending another paycheck on herself and was hurrying to her car when she ran smack into Tom. Her shopping bags flew in all directions. Tom was knocked on his heels, literally and figuratively. He’d never seen anyone like Gladys Ann. Tom’s mother and sisters had a very different style. Tasteful, and classic. A concept that was foreign to Gladys Ann. Tom noticed that Gladys Ann had an aura about her. It was the scent of Wind Song. Had Tom met her in an elevator, his head might have been turned in another way. Every day her coworkers hoped and prayed that Gladys Ann would not get in the elevator with them. It wasn’t that Wind Song was a bad perfume; it was Gladys Ann’s heavy hand that ruined it. One of her co-workers said she could make Chanel smell bad. However, there was no danger of that happening. Gladys Ann believed in quantity over quality. Why she could buy 5 big bottles of Wind Song for the price of one small bottle of Chanel No. 5. She wouldn’t dream of buying shoes in a department store when Mall Shoe Xpress sold her 4 inch heels at a fraction of the cost and in at least 16 colors, all of which she owned. There in the temperature-controlled air-filtered mall, her scent was dissipated just enough to add to Tom’s fascination. She was unlike any of the girls in his neighborhood. Actually she was unlike most girls in any neighborhood. Tom mistook her overblown sense of self for confidence. She knew she had snagged a great guy almost immediately after walking into him. Yes, it was no accident. Gladys Ann saw Tom and decided she wanted him; it was pretty much the same way she decided on purchasing a new coat or new shoes. Tom was tall and handsome and had a smile that wouldn’t quit. Gladys Ann would soon discover that he came from a good family and was raised well. That would mean something to most women, but to Gladys Ann, all that mattered was that she was treated like a queen. Tom was a willing subject. Before he knew it, he and Gladys Ann were planning a wedding. She would walk down the aisle in a gown made for her by Mrs, Monsantini, the little old lady who lived across the street from her house. Gladys Ann presented her with a photo of a Vera Wang dress and asked her to add some ruffles here and some glitz there. Any resemblance to Vera Wang was soon drowned in nylon organza and rhinestones. “Sometimes Vera Wang is just too plain,” she’d said.
At the 4th of July barbeque, Tom’s sister, Kate, overheard his friends.
“She looks like an explosion at an American flag factory. I give it 9 months,” one said.
Kate had to admit the description was accurate. Gladys Ann’s red, white an blue outfit was an eye-opener.
“Nine! Even Tom, great guy that he is, couldn’t last that long. I’ll give it 5.”
“He’ll try to hang in there. Put me down for 11.”
Kate realized they were starting a pool on how long Tom’s marriage would last. She turned to look at them, ready to tell them it wasn’t funny. But none of them were laughing. They were just going through the motions. She just sighed and thought to herself, “That’s 3 times as long as I give it.”
None of them got it right. Four months later, Gladys Ann and Tom had Thanksgiving dinner with Tom’s family. Gladys Ann was a vision in autumn colors. She wore an orange angora turtleneck sweater dress and matching orange suede boots with her signature 4-inch heels. Her coat appeared to be made of turkey feathers. No one asked. As she entered the dining room, a cloud of Wind Song rolled in ahead of her like nerve gas. “Gladys Ann, why don’t you and Tom sit over there.” His father pointed to two seats at the far end of the table, right near the window being opened by his mother. After dinner, Kate announced she was expecting a baby. When cheers and toasts and all the excitement died down, Gladys Ann, not waiting to be asked, stated. “I just couldn’t bring a child into this world.” Heads turned and jaws dropped.
“What do you mean?” half the family asked in unison.
“It’s such a cruel world. How can anyone raise children the way things are today? So much violence and hatred. I just couldn’t do it” That was it. There was no question that Gladys Ann meant what she said. Later that night Tom’s mother told his father, “Thank goodness that happened after dinner. At least she didn’t ruin the entire day.” She started to cry. “She’s going to ruin his life.” “Calm yourself, everything’s going to be okay. Tom and I did more than just watch football today. He told me at halftime that he was calling off the wedding. He’s probably telling her right now.”
“Thank heaven. Who knows what kind of tacky wedding that would have been.”
“He told me that she’s going to be more upset that she won’t be able to call her self Gladys Ann Lanahan than anything else. But then there’s his pay check. She apparently had big plans for that too” “All I know is that I never want to be in the same room with a bottle of that perfume ever again in my life.” No one ever knew if Gladys Ann would realize that there is something worse than too much of a good thing. And that is too much of everything.

Follow your Passion Spring is new beginnings. Snow is melting. Flowers are breaking through the earth and the trees are coming into bloom. Spring is a perfect time to reflect on where we are in life. Every single one of us face new beginnings. Some of us are like magnets for change: weddings, new babies, new jobs, accidents, loss, and dreaded diagnoses are just a few. The chance to start over the next morning is at times, the only constant we have. Every single life event catapults us into a fight or flight response that makes it seemingly hard to stay present. Suddenly we have so much to do it seems impossible to “live in the moment”. How do we really slow down when our to-do list is already a mile long and we are bombarded by the situation at hand? I experienced a life changing event almost three years ago when I survived a horrific car accident. On my way to work on a Monday morning my front left tire blew pulling my car into the center wall on the highway. Before that moment, I was filling up my car with gas and getting my usual unsweet ice tea with extra ice…I had no idea my life was about to change. Many surgeries and a nursing home stay, to learn how to walk again, brought me to a homecoming like no other. I live alone so my grown sons arranged everything to make my life easier; However, recovery was a daunting process. Many tears later my sweet mom suggested I start painting. I had spent the last few years working and finishing up my master’s degree to become a marriage and family therapist, so I knew all the signs of a dangerous state of mind. I started painting miniature canvases and I truly believe art saved my life. Painting gave me a purpose that I was so sorely lacking. I’m not here to say the process is easy by any means, it’s not. Some days are tremendously hard, some days we feel like giving up. I’m here to tell you to keep moving forward one day at a time…maybe one moment at a time if it’s one of those days. First, realize that this moment, right now, is all we really have. Yesterday is over and the future is a giant unknown. All the planning in the world will not change what is destined to happen. Just ask the woman who was married for twenty years facing a heartbreaking divorce or the couple who were told they would never have children who are suddenly celebrating a miracle. Live and breathe in these moments. Good or bad we must remember everything will always work out. Realize we cannot predict the outcome of any scenario no matter how many ways we try. Accept what is. We can be so skilled at worrying about the worst case scenario that we miss the miracle. Something good always comes somehow. Even loss, as hard as it is to bear, strengthens us. Our strength will serve us when we can help someone else going through a crisis.
Accept yourself with all of your strengths and flaws. We all have areas to work on from healthier eating to minimizing our negative thinking. Right now, in this moment, we are enough. We are doing the best we can with the knowledge we have to deal with the situation at hand. We are much stronger and capable than we imagine. Follow your passion. We all need to make a living. Some of us will have 9-5 careers, work shifts in a factory, or have the blessing of being a stay at home wife/mother. No matter how many responsibilities we have we can still find time to work our passion into our days. It may be a few moments of sketching during our son’s football practice or making a list of craft supplies needed for that new project you want to make, while we’re waiting on dinner. Embrace every moment. Lastly, we must practice self-care. We need good rest, healthy meals, exercise, and to renew our minds every day. Practicing mindfulness is a skill which requires patience and practice. It took me a long time to learn to live for today through various trauma and hardships. Finally, on a very personal note, the Bible verses Philippians 4:6-8, Mathew 6:26, and the book of Ecclesiastes are comforting to me in my time of doubt or confusion. I truly believe God continues to carry me through every single event both good and bad. Right now today, I am doing my best to be grateful for my life and if I may suggest you do the same. We only get one life, let’s enjoy our time..

Progress, not perfection I’ve been a trainer for over 7 years now. I’ve work with some men, but mostly women. I have learned just how bad we feel about ourselves inside. Men – not so much. So, where does it start? Where do we start creating these inner images about ourselves that we’re not good enough, that we’re not perfect and that we strive for “perfection” although nobody really knows what that is (because we all know it doesn’t exist). So ask yourself – when did it start for you. This is important because we need to find the root cause of this madness and stop it with at least these new generations. The amount of lifetime women spend feeling bad about themselves, and then even if they do decide to do something about it – the amount of guilt women feel when they do something for themselves is just way too much and needless to say – it’s all wasted energy and emotion. Can you imagine if all that energy was used for a positive thought and feeling??? Why don’t we just feel good or at least comfortable about ourselves? But this is not the only problem. By having these negative thoughts – we don’t let the positive ones in and then we create this habit of failure. I see it with 90% of my clients. These beautiful women who never know their beauty, who go through their whole life feeling bad about themselves. That portrays in other areas of life, you know. This is the real problem. Women end up settling for a man, for a relationship, for a job, for the status quo. No! Don’t do that! You are beautiful and you should know it! You can always strive to get better and improve but there is absolutely nothing wrong with feeling good about yourself! You have SO much to offer! I have never met someone who had nothing to offer. But I can tell you I have met too many that don’t know their worth. No, I don’t always feel good about myself, I have better and worse days but I am also aware of where I am and where I want to be. I don’t necessarily ever want to get where I “want to be” because I like to work toward a goal. And once I reach that goal – I set another. I also think it’s important to recognize where you’re looking for the “feeling good”. I see this as an issue as well. It’s pretty upsetting to see women with low self-esteem settling with men that are not on their level only cause he’s a sweet talker. Now yes, a man can do a lot to make you feel good, but he can do a lot of damage too. This is why you need to know you inside first. Otherwise you’re too dependent on someone who can make you or break you.
That’s a lot of responsibility. I also see a lot of women trying to get their make up, hair, nails on point but still not attacking the cause root. Now, don’t get me wrong – I don’t leave the house without makeup, I have my nails and hair done, well, most of the time. But those are not the things that bring my self-esteem up. I know me inside. And I’m comfortable even without those things. These are the cherries on top. The cake is the best part. Ok maybe I shouldn’t talk about cake when it comes to body image. So why do I love fitness? Because there is no better feeling than feeling strong. This feeling has made me accomplish a lot of things I never thought I could. This is the feeling that has made me realize I am A-ok with who I am. This is the feeling that nobody can take away from me. And this is the feeling I want to help others reach. I have been broken before. I have had very low self-esteem at times. And I have built myself back up. Let me help you on your journey up. We can do it together. I am here for you.

Hello Beautiful! Yes, I am talking to you! You are beautiful whether you feel it or not. You take care of your family and friends, always putting their needs first. You are always thinking of others, you take the back seat in every situation. That is ok, as long as you realize how beautiful of a person that makes you. And, if you do take a few minutes for yourself. Yes you can make a few minutes for you! First, understand being beautiful inside is far more important than having the appearance of a runway model. When I feel my worst, my children tell me I am beautiful, my youngest especially. and I am ok with that, because love is blind! If you are as busy as most women these days, we are very limited on time. But there are small things you can do to make yourself feel pretty. For me, if I feel bad, and I am just running errands and driving the school carpool, I still put on my favorite perfume or body lotion that takes a couple of seconds, but instantly makes me feel better. Putting on something new makes me feel like a million dollars! I am not talking about a new dress that cost lots. But, simply a new pair of flip flops, socks or even new undergarments, no one sees. But makes you feel better. Buying a new nail polish or lipstick for summer is fun and affordable, and a quick pick me up! You do not have to do this every week, but treating yourself to an occasional pedicure or manicure can do wonders. Bring a friend, your sister or even mom, and make it a girls day. Eating right and exercising can make you feel better and pretty. Sometimes we are too busy to even eat right. It is worth the extra effort and great for long term health. So today be more confident knowing you are beautiful inside and out. If you do not feel beautiful, read this article again! See ya beautiful!

Sleep, an amazing gift Sleep is an amazing gift, for those that can sleep well. Each day you can start refreshed after a good nights sleep. Naps are an added bonus! Getting plenty of sleep at night is a health benefit in itself. For children, 9-11 hours of sleep is recommended. Babies and toddlers require closer to 15 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period including naps. Adults 8 hours is the current recommendation, although many do not get a full 8 hours of sleep. More than 8 hours of sleep for an adult is not recommended as can cause increase of some health risks. For adults that exercise regularly sleeping at night is easier, as long as you do not exercise too close to bedtime. Alcohol, although can make you feel sleepy, interfere with a good nights sleep.
Tips to sleep better Keep your bedroom cool in the summer. Keep a regular sleep schedule, even on the weekends. Especially for children. Make sure your mattress and pillows are comfortable. Keep a regular exercise schedule. Limit caffeine and alcohol.
A Song in my Heart Amazing Grace how sweet the sound..... Probably one of the best known hymns of all times. Raised in a Baptist church, there are so many I remember, and remember my Grandmother singing. There are so many great hymns, which as I have grown older have been in my heart for years, are now surfacing. Standing on the Promises of Christ my King.... Really came in my heart a few years ago. What are the promises of God? There are so many! I promise to never leave you, I promise to supply all your needs. I promise you a future and hope. So many hymns pop in my head as I carry so many in my heart. Some of them come to me in my sleep, just at the right time. The meaning of the songs, now that I am older, are clear, before it was just a song we sang in church. Now, it is a song in my heart. I remember my mother singing and my dad playing the old gospel hymns on the record player on Sunday mornings. “How Great thy Art” has been ranked #2 in popularity right below Amazing Grace. Both have been performed worldwide by great artists from Elvis Presley to Carrie Underwood. Both have been sung at the White House in various celebrations. Here’s to hoping you keep a special song in your heart. Does not have to be a hymn, but a song that makes you happy.

Would you turn back time if you could? Do you ever look at your past and wish you could turn back time? Do you ever wish you could have a “do over? Do you wish you could go give your younger self advice? I did, until one day I realized, that everything from my past has brought me to this point in my life. This thought may not work out for everyone. But it rings so true for me. If I would have accepted a different job, or did not leave the job that I thought was perfect for me, I would have never met my amazing husband, nor would I have had my wonderful boys. If I had taken different steps in my life it would all be different. And I love the life I have and the person I have become. I appreciate what I have, because of the not so good I experienced in life. We always say things have a way of working for the better, again may not be for everyone. But, I can say when situations do not turn out well for me, something has always been better is around the corner. This is not an instant process, sometimes lengthy. But, I have always seen a bad situation turn out better after time. I can look back later and say okay, that was the reason. When we were searching for the perfect shop to open, we thought we found the perfect one, and then the next perfect one and we just kept hitting dead ends. I decided to take a break, step back as I knew the perfect shop that was meant for me, would fall in my lap. I was expecting that call when it came. And knew it would be meant to be. And it was! We ended up with a much better location. And had I not stepped back a bit and waited, we would have missed a blessing. Try to see the good through the bad, and have faith that things will get better. Never let go of that faith. For many, at times, faith is all they may have. Never, ever give up!

Coupon Craziness! Are you caught up in all that craziness! Are you an extreme couponer? Yes? God Bless you! No? I am right there with you! I think there is a happy medium to be found. Especially if you do not have the time to be extreme. Yes, there is an art to it and it is very time consuming. And the payoff is big and worth the time. But, some are left with products that will expire before they are able to use. Many donate those items to charity which is an added bonus, saving money and donating to charity. I personally clip coupons for what I know I will use. I will wait for the product to go on sale before I buy with the coupon, so extra savings. I also do digital couponing with my local stores phone ap. Bonus, my store doubles and triples coupons. Check to see if your store does the double coupons and ask about their competitor coupon policy. Check out their savings cards. I have coupons mailed to me according to what I have purchased. And the coupons are for things I actually buy! When we travel, I sign up for their savings card, who doesn’t need to save while traveling! Walmart has come out with an ap for your phone “savings catcher”. You scan your receipt with your smart phone and they will search local areas for better prices. They will refund you with a credit if there was a lower price to be found. Pretty cool! That is how confident they are about their low prices. If you want to go a little further in the waters but not the deep end. There are lots to be learned from our friends at The Krazy Coupon Lady . They have wonderful tips for beginners to the extreme. They will even teach you to “Pay it Forward” with your savings. Bonus - they even give you the latest coupon links, and tons of advice! Check them out today! http://thekrazycouponlady.com

We love our new shop! We opened our doors with great enthusiasm May 2nd and have not looked back! It has been an incredible few months We carried our online shopping mall a bit further and created our own shop, selling our clients products. We have over 40 artist and merchants that have come together to create this amazing shop! We support small business! This has allowed us to support small businesses even more. Alone we could not have done this. It has taken everyone of our clients to make this possible. Location, location, location! Yes we have the perfect location, but it was not easy. We knew the town we wanted to be in, small, quaint, but beautiful! We hit several dead ends, each time knowing things absolutely happen for a reason. When a door shuts, there is a reason, and I always accept that. Fighting that door, can lead to problems. And as the saying goes, another one opens. And our door opened wide! Now our doors are open 7 days a week! We have 1700 square feet in the Historic District of Nolensville, TN. We are located next door to the Feed Mill, also referred to as the Amish Country Market. They have wonderful food, incredible deli sandwiches, local grown produce. A famous breakfast buffet on Saturdays.
We have many great neighbors in the historic district. We feel so blessed to be a part of this great community! When you stop in, be sure and visit all the great shops and our friends, Village Antiques and Gifts, Roses and Rustics, the Tanner House, Three French Hens, Peacock Lane, Nolensville The Barn, Nolensville Toy Shop & more! Great food at the Feed Mill/Amish Market place and Nana’s Diner. Make a day of it! It will be a great day for sure! Here is a peek into our shop. We hope you enjoy the tour! by ! Stop
