he Indian Parliamentary Election results of 2014 came out on 16th May, Friday made an official end for India's five-week long general election.

The results gave a landslide victory for Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The so called slogan Abki Baar, Modi Sarkaar is becoming a reality.

While the election results gave a good tel massage (oil massage) to ‘Team Modi’ it also did not forget to give a sharp malice to the corrupt team led by Dr. Manmohan Singh for namesake.

The ballot results also exhilarated the exit-polls and media analyses.

The one tight slap given by the citizens of India to the Manmohan Singh government swept away 36 members of his cabinet and said a big NO to them from not sitting again in the Parliament House. This was an answer from those desperate Indians, who are fed up with counting the scandals which punched one by one on their face.

At the midst of corrupt and patched track record of one decade Congress government,

the party utterly failed in this election to demonstrate what they stand for and who will steer the government machine.

Congress also failed to convey the people whether they have something serious to say against Modi or do they genuinely oppose Modi’s fascist agenda and hardcore hindutva. Apart from a mere epithet maut ka saudagar (Merchants of Death) Congress could not properly exhibit the true face and colour of Modi.

Yes, the granny is really getting weaker and weakest. The poorest ever tally for the Congress around 50-60 seats also breaks the records of failure. Congress party won 114 seats under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi in 1999; and this year in 2014, the tally, melt down to shameful level.

This is big time for the Congress party and its sympathisers to think what went wrong with them instead of thinking what went so right with the Modi led BJP. Well, the public know that the answer is ‘Muzzled Modi Wave’ but the Congress must come up with better and feasible

points. Otherwise, the electoral symbol ‘Hand’ will be filed to the political archives forever.

The scenes in Kerala are much fairer to the Congress party than in any other states. The Kerala Chief Minister Mr. Oommen Chandy can relax with a smile as the people of Kerala gave a satisfactory compliment to his state government. Mr. Chandy could narrowly pass-through from the unfair warning line that the Congress High-command’s drew by announcing that the concerned Congress led State Chief Ministers have the moral obligation to resign from the post if in case party fails to win in their respective states. The poorest number of seats that left parties could altogether collect from this Parliament election takes us to that ever-green dialogues and scenes from super hit Malayalam political satire ‘Sandesham.’ That good old crawling of BJP to open an account in Kerala has not accomplished this time also. Ever since K.J.Marar the party was restlessly running from post to pillar to see a single lotus bloom

in the State. The BJP contested all except one of the 20 parliamentary seats in the state but, once again, failed to open its innings.

What next? During my recent interaction with Paul Zakariya, a well known social commentator

and author from Kerala, he opined that this election results will show us the value of secularism in Indian politics and will also give an abstract picture about the growth of Fascism in India.

Yes, the election results endorse me to think he is quite right and he made a remarkable comment.

A senior American diplomat described Modi, in a report disclosed by WikiLeaks, as an "insular, distrustful person" who "reigns by fear and intimidation."

Modi’s hindutwa (not religiously Hindu) devotees on social networks aired hatred and malice towards certain religious groups by using specially designed tag words ‘terrorists’, ‘Pakistan agents’, ‘pseudo-nationalists’ and finally ‘infiltrators.’ This venomous hate-speeches also indicate a communally unrest India which the world is going to watch. It is worth noting how mesmer-

ized the citizens of India with Modi’s artistically proliferated development scenes and dreams.

By this election results the ‘acquisition’ strategy of corporate reach to the citadels of democracy too.

For corporate tycoons, Modi is the new ‘Moorty (deity)’ in their ‘pooja rooms (prayer rooms).’

Apart from the nationally rooted companies, the transnational companies are also in race for a massive land-grab. Corporate sponsored Modi government would give new meanings to the forests and ecology of India. The Congress sponsored land grab of corporates by robbing the land and farm from hundreds and thousands of indigenous people would continue under the new regime without much scenes and interruptions. The corporates very well knew that if Modi comes to power, he will smooth their path far more effectively

than the Congress Party has done.

That they learned from experiences in Gujarat that they will be given land at a pittance, that tax regulations and environmental and labour laws will be ignored.

Indian stock market shares are seen heaving to a record high and the rupee and bonds could

hit new highs. The Nifty has already surged 18.7 percent ever since Narendra Modi became the prime minister candidate.

The Sensex also hit an all-time high and the rupee rallied to its strongest levels in 10 months.

As per the latest information, the official decisions on ministry formation will be taken by the BJP parliamentary board on May 17. Since Modi has to give jovial positions to the BJP senior leaders, he would perhaps meet with some tricky situations in accommodating leaders like Sushma Swaraj, Joshi and even LK Advani. It is worth noting that all these three were implacably opposed to Modi being named prime ministerial candidate.

This election once again proves that the race was between the people who supported Modi and frightened by Modi. And here again, the cliche line of ‘Love me or Hate me but you cannot ignore me’ become perfectly suitable to Narendra Modi.

2014 Kluger Toyota's family focused seven seater

oyota, the makers of cars with bullet proof reliability has earned the status of the most trusted brand all over the world.

In Australia, Toyota offers a wide range of sports utility vehicles(SUVs) targeted on buyers with different priorities.

The RAV 4 is ideal for city runabouts, whereas the PRADO is a very capable off- roader. The FJ Cruiser,a funky car with retro-looks is another powerful off-road weapon. The iconic LAND CRUISER ,asophisticated blend of off-road ability ,on-road comfort and unparalleled refinement. The KLUGER ,a crossover SUV which is badged as the Highlander in most overseas market, is a family focussed seven-seaterwhich bundles refinement and reliability.

The third generation Toyota Kluger has hit the Australian tarmac in March 2014. It comes in three trim levels- the base model GX, the mid spec GXL, and the top of the line Grande. The new Kluger is imported from USA where as the previous generations were from Japan.

The bold and aggressive front end of the new Kluger has a massive grill with a chrome lip on its top that blends to sleek horizontal headlights that wraps around the fenders. The muscular look of the vehicle is enhancedby the bold sheet metal sculpting on the flared wheel arches and by the shoulder crease that extends all the way from the front wheel arches to the bulged out tail lights.

The well integrated roof rails that extend to the rear spoiler and the angled window lines improve upon the aesthetics of the car.

The new Kluger has the same wheel base as the outgoing model where as the length and width of the car have marginally increased. Toyota reports that it has strengthened the pillars and beams to improve on the side impact protection. Toyota engineers have paid special attention to improve the noise vibration harshness (NVH) levels in the new Kluger.

METRO MOTORING brown wood grain and silver inserts lend an aura of gracefulness to the dashboard. The touch screen infotainment system with integrated digital radio/CD and aux/USB inputs with bluetooth connectivity is standard in all models of the Kluger. Reversing camera and parking sensors are also standard across the range. Satellite navigation and blind spot monitors are available on the top of the range model, Grande. The Grande also has sunroof, Blu-ray player with roof mounted 9 inch LCD screen and retractable sunscreen in the rear windows to keep the kids happier in the rear seat. The GXL and Grande models get electrically adjustable, ventilated leather seats,which has heating as well as cooling option. Seven seats are now standard in all models of the Kluger.

The use of the new compact rear suspension has saved a lot of interior space, there by improving the cargo capacity and the width of the third row seats. The third row seats of the new Kluger can accommodate two full size adults,however the lack of leg room and thigh support in the third

row can be an issue on long drives.

The new Kluger is available in front wheel drive(2WD) and all wheel drive (AWD)options.

The on demand torque vectoring system in the AWD model is a remarkable upgrade on the new Kluger.The driving dynamics of the car have significantly improved with the redesigned suspension and firmersprings.The highly capable and well refined 3.5 litre V6 engine carried over from the previous Kluger is mated to an all-new 6-speed gearbox which makes the vehicle more fuel efficient, especially on highways . the Saint of Environmentalism Legends depict that how beasts and birds were inclined to the charisma of St. Francis and how they befriended with him.

St. Francis of Assisi (1181/1182 – October 3, 1226) was a Franciscan monk who lived in the thirteenth century. Francis was the son of a wealthy cloth merchant in Italy; but following an epiphany, he forsook his highspirited wealthy lifestyle and embraced poverty. Francis led a very candid life with a feeling of kinship with all of creation.

He considered the nature, birds and animals as his kinfolks. His affection and attachment to the God's creation such as animals and plants, humanity, rocks, wind and the entire universe is indeed a role model for all of us to lead an ideal life with gratefulness to the Earth and Earthly elements.

Creation is a theo-philosophical term that presupposes a Creator who creates this marvelous inimitable creation.

One of the earliest legends of St. Francis speaks of a fierce wolf near the town of Gubbio who was eating animals and humans because he was starving.

The entire town was afraid to go outside the town walls until St. Francis--convincing the people the wolf's hunger was what caused him to do wrong-met APRIL MAY 2014 2014

with the wolf, blessed it and is reported to have said, “Brother Wolf, you have done great harm to this region, not only destroying other creatures without mercy, but you even have the brazenness to kill and devour human beings made in the image of God. You deserve severe punishment; but I want to make peace between you and the town, so that they will not be harmed by you anymore and after they have forgiven you, neither men or dogs will pursue you anymore.” The wolf indicated it would accept these terms, and offered his paw as a sign. St. Francis of the animals said, “I promise that the town will feed you every day; I know that what you did, you did out of hunger.” The town promised to do what the saint had bargained, and having adopted the wolf, and fed him until the day he died. (Story taken from the Franciscan Friars and Catholic Encyclopedia) This very candid event in the life of St. Francis of Assisi provides for us a mold in which we are obliged to cast our own life's conduct and character.

Almost all religious scriptures and messages teach us the same as what St. Francis taught and implemented in his life. Buddhism firmly believes that humans are entwined with natural systems, damage done upon the Earth is also a damage done to humans. Hindu Vedic practitioners and scholars find traditional approaches to the natural environment in such concepts as dharmic ethics or prakrti (material creation). In Jewish law (halakhah), ecological concerns are reflected in Biblical protection for fruit trees, rules in the Mishnah against harming the public domain. Quran and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad taught the environment was made sacred. It is believed that God did not create the environment for a random reason, but rather a reflection of truth.

was informed by my brother from India on 20th March 14, an eventful tiding for me, that my old buddy ‘the grizzly bear’ Padmavibhooshan (2007) Khushwant Singh had breathed his last gasp of air. The Government’s overture by offering the lesser Padma awards was rejected by the Sardarji. He was the architect and ‘presiding deity’ of the Illustrated Weekly of India, when I was working in the same organisation a floor down- precisely 22 feet below- from his office. From mid-sixties to seventies, I was a good friend of his and had conversations with him on countless occasions, true he was a good reconterer. I was attracted by his simplistic writing skill, care free life style of live by day, unpretentious dressing style touching the very extremities of shabby dressing; he looked like yet another poor short, rotund and stumpy turban clad Bombay Taxi driver. Known to include plenty of rude words in his writings, he was frank, explicit, honest, upright and fearless to write what he thought was right. Outside his main door he put up a cute yet curt remark on his sign board with this remark;

He was well known for his trenchant secularism, a dry weird sense of humour, lucid writing skill on sexy issues impregnated in his MR (Mature Readers) writings in candid fearless novels and topical social writings putting down women, apart from few Whisky sodden outbursts.

Though he was admired by a vast readership, he was smeared as the ‘Sultan of sleaze’ and ‘Celebrated Lecher’ or a ‘lewd man’.

His one sided irreverent treatment of women as objects of lust looked notorious to the genteel readers. On his frankness of expression, he said “I never use condoms on my writing pen” I am not going into his written works; they are far too many to mention here. In Illustrated weekly he swelled subscriber’s numbers shooting up in unprecedented way. He brought innovations like special caste issues. I remember working hard by way of meeting, procuring information’s from sources far and wide as the caste issues were produced. He was a firm challenger of hypocrisy and a harsh critic of establishment. He lived his life in full, surrounded by beautiful women and a glass of Whisky on his hand. Unripened agnostic he incessantly poked fun at snob and pretentious people and enjoyed at the miserable pompous, self-righteous, deeply religious and those who blindly worship India’s myriad of Gods.

Some critics of Sardar branded him as the ‘last Pakistani living in India’; highlighting his benign

attitude to Islam and Pakisthan.

His much sought after ‘7 p.m.

Durbar’ featuring Johnny Walker and talk usually highly tinged with women and sex was a feature event of every day. Mind you the Whisky came from one of his rich admirer day after day.

On his Indianism, he expressed that he had no say in the choice.

If the Good Lord had consulted him before his birth he might have chosen another country of birth more affluent, less crowded, less conscious in matters of food and drink, unconcerned on personal equations and free of religious bigotry.

It was his classy brain that attracted them to this lecherous writer of Midas’s touch and brilliance, a grisly dirty old man with sexual deviance. Somehow he had the unique style to ‘Patao girls’- trapping the girls- techniques. The mass following of beauties nurtured, encouraged and adored him and looked upon him as a deity of worship, a version Eros or Kamadevan. He however said that “I am a simple old man with a dirty mind. He however added that in a country of blinds, the one eyed is the king.

Fond of his whisky, he tried to distort his already camouflaged image on others as a drunken slob, but from my first hand observation, he was studious, hardworking and a diligent journalist. He treated his lady colleagues and friends as a gentleman would do. t’s only as the wind passes you that you feel its presence. As I sit on the smooth park bench, watching the brown maple leaves rain down upon me, I think of you. The leaves that fall around me cannot quantify the joy you have given me, throughout the joie de vivre of youth and the pleasures of old age. We were each, a half of a whole, there was no I or you, there was only we and us.

Every day, when the sun pokes its head above the horizon and its rays slide through the blinds, I wake up. I turn around, in the refuge of my blanket to see you on the other bed. Already awake; your eyes are transfixed on the photograph resting on the mantle, an image of the deep blue ocean, with its waves gently crashing onto the soft, sandy, shoreline.

Even when I return with your bowl of cereal (Honey Crunch with half a glass of milk), you lay, like an idle, lost in a world of dreams. Only when I gently touch your shoulder, beckoning you to eat your breakfast, does life seep back into you.

Each morning, I walk you to the bathroom and together, we shave. You gently lather your face with the soft, smooth foam.

Often just to see you smile, I dab foam on the tip of your nose.

“Stop it Chris”, you say whilst giggling. Then, I carefully handle the razor and shave you, bribing you along the way with an extra hour of Tom and Jerry if you co-operate.

When it is time for your shower, you never let me leave. You are petrified of Spike, the dog in Tom and Jerry. You are fearful that Spike will come out of the shadows and get you. Because of this, I am made to wait next to the shower screen, on one condition though; that I never open my eyes until you have finished. My presence is enough to calm you.

Dressing is never easy. I plead you to wear your old flannelette shirt and black pants. With great anger and annoyance, you sling the shirt over your shoulders, muttering profanities in the process. Once you are ready I make you stand in front of the mirror so that I can comb your hair. It was always mum’s job to comb your hair, but that honour was bestowed after her passing.

I take the comb and part your hair, always from left to right.

You always fidget and scream for mum when I comb your hair, oblivious of the fact that she left both of us behind. Once our

morning ritual finishes, we visit the pond in the meadows.

Your firm grip leaves my hands once the pond comes into sight.

You run across the long, yellow grass of the meadow, elation and joy flows out of you. Upon reaching the lake, you stop suddenly and stoop down to see the reflection. You gaze into the clear waters and stare affectionately at the one little fish, struggling to keep up with the rest of the school. “Come on fishy, swim faster, swim faster”, you whisper. You touch the water and a small ripple runs across the pond.

You then scream out to me and beckon for my attention before I miss out on the spectacle that brings you a great deal of pleasure. Once I get near you, you tell me to whisper and come over silently. Then, you point out to my reflection and silently giggle, cupping your mouth. It is then and only then that you give me a hug.

Now as the bells knell in the chapel, I get up from the seat and walk to the pond over the meadows. I kneel down and look at my reflection. A single tear rolls down my face and falls into the pond, causing a ripple to form.

I softly touch the water where your face would have been and at the same moment, a wind bristles past the meadows.
