Growing up in a white family, in a white community, and with very little Asian representation around me, I effectively grew up white. But I’m not. I’m adopted from Korea, and look very much like it. But for a long time I never wanted to acknowledge my ‘yellowness’. The first painting deals with me shedding my ‘whiteness’, illustrated in a more physical form. The other two paintings are Goya inspired interpretations of my white self devouring my yellow self.
