OVERVIEW HISTORY Serving American families since 1916, Piggly Wiggly is known for a rich history. One location in particular, Piggly Wiggly Crestline in Mountain Brook, Alabama, operated for 30 years until the building’s lease was not renewed and the store was shut down. After residents put in a fight, the store’s owner decided that the small, tight-knit community couldn’t lose their “Pig”, and decided to buy property to build a new building to rehouse the cherished Piggly Wiggly store.
DESIGN The design of Piggly Wiggly Crestline was centered around the invitation for people to come and stay awhile. The wine department was modeled to look like a Tuscan wine cellar, complete with plaster walls and authentic stone archways. Large, beautiful murals were placed on the valances to promote the store’s food and products. A rich, sophisticated color palette combined with a simple wood texture created a rustic, yet fresh hand-crafted feeling to highlight the artisan and crafted items that are sold in the store.

ALCOHOL ALCOHOL Piggly Wiggly Crestline’s selection of spirits include craft beers, draft beers and fine wines, highlighted in bold displays showcasing the store’s variety. The array covers a large portion of the store and includes a black painted valance with “Draft Beers”, “Craft Beers”, and “Fine Wines” placed above the appropriate section. The valances are adorned with black and maroon painted walls, attractive lighting, wood paneling, photos, and the Piggly Wiggly logo.

DAIRY DAIRY The Dairy Department is cloaked in two-tone neutral paints across the valence. Dairy carries the unique responsibility of not distracting from the more distinct divisions in the store while, at the same time, upholding the quality and integrity customers come to enjoy. To this end, charismatic light fixtures were strategically placed to embolden the white acrylic “Dairy” on the department valence. The corresponding craftsman touches of wooden trellises and accents, macro portraits of eggs, rustic milk pitcher, and other items, successfully actualize this final zone of Piggly Wiggly Crestline.

PRODUCE SECTION
PRODUCE PRODUCE The Produce department is draped in a rich forest green valance, completing the wood panel experience across the store ceiling. “Produce” boldly announces your arrival in the department of zest and freshness, in white acrylic lettering against its own accent wall. Also featured are wood construction trellises and dramatic macro photography of rich red onions, geometric rock salt, and other zesty vegetation. Custom mood lighting finish the space, and complete the craftsman experience that Crestline had yearned for.

MEATS PRESTIGE MEATS The Meats section includes both the “Meats” and “Carved Meats & Seafood” departments. The “Meats” department includes a red painted valance, wooden trellis, a detailed photo and mood lighting with “Meats” in bold lettering. The “Carved Meats & Seafood” department compliments the “Meats” department with wood paneling featuring the Piggly Wiggly logo and a blue painted valance. The department heading is created from white acrylic and custom chalk art signage hangs below the valance to highlight the products.

DELICATESSEN DELICATESSEN The Deli section contains both the “Delicatessen” department and the “The Deli Shoppe” department. The sections complement each other with cream colored valances. “Delicatessen” is created from white acrylic and accented with chalk art and a bold photo to highlight the products offered. Wood paneling featuring the Piggly Wiggly logo helps to transition between the two departments. “The Deli Shoppe” is created from white acrylic and adorned with custom mood lighting and wood trellis.

FLORAL FLORAL The Floral department includes bold, two-toned valances cast in forest green and midnight blue. A custom, curve-structured trellis defines your debut in the new space and adds a dynamic sense of dimension to the area. The valance is adorned with “Floral” in white acrylic lettering with an impactful wall-to-ceiling photo of timeless tulips. Continued custom mood lighting, wooden accents, and forest green themes compliment the neighboring produce department and complete the aesthetic feel to the section.
