Food wastage

The assignment was to pick a social issue and spread awareness about it through a full campaign. The topic I picked was Food wastage as it is a major problem and not many people even realize that it is a serious issue.

Concept There is so much consumable food being thrown away and on the other hand some people do not get food to fill their stomach for days. A change in this situation needs to be brought. Along with food, a lot of resources are wasted We do not realize how much is being wasted till we read the statistics. Through this campaign I wish to educate people about the current situation and bring about a change. Info graphs work the best to give out the statistics explaining the current situation. I also aimed to reinforce the message through few some merchandise. Through research I defined my target audience as upper class, upper middle class and middle class. The age group being from 15-30 years. These are the educated people in society who have a active social life. They need to be made aware about the current situation by giving them the statistics but in such a way that it makes an impact on them. Just by reading the statistics they should feel that they want to stop the wastage. Using other merchandise, and giving them solution on how they could stop the wastage I would further make the campaign work. I basically wanted people to encourage people on giving out the leftover food to the needy. The basic point being that consumable food should not go for waste. This lead me to the name for my campaign. I tried showing comparisons to make a bigger impact of the facts that I had learnt. Showing common comparisons like the price of an expensive car or weight of a heavy animal would make it easier to communicate the statistics.

Plate, table mat & napkins

I designed a plate with a hash tag printed on the plate itself and it would be revealed only after the plate on the food is eaten. People would click a picture of the empty plate and using the hash tag, post it on social media which would help spread the message. I also designed a paper table mat. It had a maze in the shape of an apple which would keep them occupied as they wait for their food to arrive. On the sides were some facts stated which would give people an idea about the current situation of food wastage. L- A recipe booklet was designed to give away to people, which would give them ideas to cook with the common leftover food that we would have at home. This was a small step that could reduce the wastage of food on daily basis along with new ideas to cook.

Merchandise like apron, shopping list dairies and fridge magnets were designed that would reinforce the message and encourage people to preserve and serve food.
