YOUTH CHOIR HOME COMMISSIONING CONCERT Our Youth Choir is heading on tour and their opening night is here at Shalimar in the FLC, on June 15th at 5:45PM. Enjoy dinner and a show as we send them off with lots of love and prayer for their journey. They will be on tour until the following Saturday, June 25th. BEACH BAPTISM Do you want to profess your faith for the first time or reaffirm your Baptism this summer on the beach? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you! PHILIP’S FOCUS Much to Celebrate Around Shalimar UMC! We had our worship planning meeting yesterday. As we prepared the relevant announcements for this week, we kind of looked at each other in agreement and said we have so much to Celebrate! We do! In the last week alone, let me highlight three of the reasons to celebrate. - We give thanks to God for each and every new member who joined over the last seven weeks! Each of these precious people have added to the joy to our congregation. What a wave of joy having new members join each week has brought to our congregation. All in all, we welcomed 55 new members in the Great Fifty Days! WOW! We stepped out and the Lord blessed! In addition to reaching 55 new members, we also added 11 children who are pre-confirmation age and not yet baptized. These new members came from all four of our worship services. Thanks be to God. - We give thanks to God for a vibrant Vacation Bible School which is going on this week. The children are learning that God “gives us this day our daily bread.” The “Food Truck” theme is on a roll of enthusiasm. Each day we have over 200 enthusiastic children, singing, learning, and playing together! What a sight for sore eyes! We are also blessed with 60 volunteers serving our children this week. This includes 25 youth and 35 adults. And as we see the sights and sounds of children and Vacation Bible School, we see yet another sign our Children’s Ministry is on the move!
We continue to be blessed by Sarah Hicks and her leadership as our new Children’s Director. Children’s Ministry is on a roll! - One other reason to celebrate is the Starry Star Night mission fundraiser which sparkled with success. The event was aglow with around 200 persons elegant dinner dressed to the nines. The event and auctions raised over $27,000. This exceeded Starry Starry Night 2018 and the goal for this year. Wow! A special thanks to our missions team for planning a glistening evening for missions. Thanks to Pete Peters and leader team for all their hard work. The event benefits missions and some of our ministries of Shalimar UMC that go into our community. What a great night it turned out to be! Great things are happening the life of Shalimar UMC! A Request for Prayer In the upcoming months, it will be exciting to be a part of Shalimar UMC. Look in the Beacon and listen to the announcements on Sunday mornings to see what events are occurring. However, even doing that will not always give you the whole rundown because there is so much going on that the entire list cannot be covered in the space available in the Beacon and time available on Sunday mornings. This all leads me to the focus of this article. There is a great need for all of us to pray for Shalimar UMC, especially during these times. 50 churches in our conference have met and decided to bring in 50 new members each during the 50 days between Easter and Pentecost. That means it will take a lot of bold prayers for this to be accomplished. I am asking that everyone pray for SUMC to reach our goal. In addition to prayers for our 50 new members, I ask that 100 people come alongside the Prayer Team to pray for SUMC (Pastors, events, and programs of the church). From time to time, I will send special prayer emphases by email for special prayers. If you would like to join us in this prayer effort, please email me at jamesbrantley3@cox.net. I will add you to the group. God has a plan for us. We need to pray to get in tune with what His plan is. There is no limit to what can be accomplished if we get aligned with His Vision. Read Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! PRAYER Prayer Room The Prayer Room is always available for your use. The code to enter is 1423. After each Sunday morning service, someone will be present to pray with, if you would like. They will also respect your wishes to pray alone. Prayer shawls are available for your use. The Prayer Box with cards is available for you to leave a request for either the Pastors or Prayer Team. They will pray for you or a situation you would like lifted up. There have been great reports of use for this special place.
Prayer Chain You can add someone to the Prayer Chain, share an answered prayer or receive prayer requests and praises through email. Blessings for Children Praise God for You Who Pack our Lunch
I love the Upper Room devotional, and my Bible is stuffed with devotions pulled from it over the years that have spoken to me - spirit, body, and soul. One in particular, from January 8, 2022, by Inger Logelin, where she lifted up the story of the feeding of the multitudes in a way that shouted to me about the ministries and missions our church undertakes, and in particular our Blessings for Children ministry. Ms. Logelin said she “wondered about the one who prepared the boy’s lunch.” Yes, Ms. Logelin! Those behind the scenes who do what they do (pray, give, make, take, write, donate, call) so that those who share “in the field” will have what is needed. The boy had a lunch prepared by someone at home that, in the hands of Jesus, would be used in a miracle! Every Wednesday, when we open our Blessings for Children doors, we serve the “lunch” that so many gracious giving others have prepared. The diapers, toothbrushes, school supplies, t-shirts, and all we can provide to those in need who God sends has been prepared behind the scenes by someone who has a heart for others and is probably not sure how their gift will be used, but believes it is needed and is given in love.
