Worship Services
Traditions At 8:00am and 11:00 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Connect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we engage in a four -fold service of gathering, praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Freedom At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym, we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.
The Week of Sunday, April 24th:

KIDZ CHOIR MUSICAL – Come along May 1, 2022 @ 6pm on this Biblically-inspired, Won’t-Bend-Won’t-Bow-Won’t-Burn Babylonian epic, recounting the adventures of Daniel ("Danny," as we call him in our 21st-century version of the story) and his bandmates, The Shacks (better known to you Bible scholars out there as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego!). In our re-telling of the story, three young Hebrew men named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in conjunction with the prophet Daniel (of lions den fame), have a band called DANNY & THE SHACKS. They embark on a roller-coaster-thrill-ride of experiences as they encounter King Neb, his golden statue, some crazy Babylonians, the fiery furnace, and of course, the infamous lions den. Through it all, the powerful truth of God’s Word and the importance of being obedient and faithful to His teaching comes through loud and clear in a storyline so fantastic and faith affirming, it could only come from the Word of God.

CONFIRMATION SUNDAY – All are invited to join the youth Sun, May 1st during the 9:30 Connect service for Confirmation. We have a group of students who have spent time learning about Christianity and are ready to stand before the church and profess their faith. “2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Philip’s Focus Opening Eyes to Hope He is not here; He is risen! Each Gospel writer proclaims the best news in the history of the world…THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST! The gospel of Luke is distinct in that there is a post resurrection story unique to his Gospel. This story is known as the “Walk to Emmaus.” You may have heard there is a program named after this called the Emmaus Walk. Emmaus is a 72 hour crash course in Christianity based Luke’s Gospel. If you are interested in learning more about Emmaus, please let us know. In Luke 24, we read about the disciples walking on the road to Emmaus. They were sad and discouraged. After all, Jesus had been crucified. The disciples were seeing only the grim reality of no hope. What transpired next would be a complete surprise! Along the way, Jesus joined them and walked and talked with them. Yet, then, there was a mystery. The disciples did not know it was Jesus. Why did they not know the man was Jesus.? Was their despair and fatigue jading their vision? Or was it because Jesus looked different in resurrected form? Why Jesus was not known is a mystery. As they walked together for seven miles, Jesus’ identity is still not evident to them. Afterwards, only at the dinner table after the walk…they recognized Jesus. They recognized Jesus when He broke the bread. Luke says… “their eyes were opened.” The disciples had an “AHA” moment! “Were not our hearts burning within us
while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures?” Of course, they had walked with Jesus! Their eyes were open to see Him. What a great Easter story for us today! Opening blind eyes is a metaphor we use when we see things we have not recognized. Are we like the disciples? In the last couple of crazy years, have we missed Jesus walking along side of us? Have we been only seeing the chaos, distractions, and craziness of the last few years. Could it be Jesus has been walking with us all along? The good news of the “risen Lord” offers us a time to “open our blind eyes!” As we continue to celebrate our resurrected Lord, I pray we all will have our eyes opened and see Jesus. As we follow Him, may we see the HOPE of Jesus anew. As we open our eyes the resurrection gives hope over sin, evil, and even death. May our eyes be open to see Jesus! Blessings for Children Praise God for You Who Pack our Lunch I love the Upper Room devotional, and my Bible is stuffed with devotions pulled from it over the years that have spoken to me - spirit, body, and soul. One in particular, from January 8, 2022, by Inger Logelin, where she lifted up the story of the feeding of the multitudes in a way that shouted to me about the ministries and missions our church undertakes, and in particular our Blessings for Children ministry. Ms. Logelin said she “wondered about the one who prepared the boy’s lunch.” Yes, Ms. Logelin! Those behind the scenes who do what they do (pray, give, make, take, write, donate, call) so that those who share “in the field” will have what is needed. The boy had a lunch prepared by someone at home that, in the hands of Jesus, would be used in a miracle! Every Wednesday, when we open our Blessings for Children doors, we serve the “lunch” that so many gracious giving others have prepared. The diapers, toothbrushes, school supplies, t-shirts, and all we can provide to those in need who God sends has been prepared behind the scenes by someone who has a heart for others and is probably not sure how their gift will be used, but believes it is needed and is given in love. God does the rest! Praise God for all those “behind the scenes!” And if you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider: Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Be on the lookout for families you can refer to us for assistance. • Consider donating items we distribute to the children: diapers (size
4, 5, and 6 in particular), pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized t-shirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, lice treatment kits, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute can be found at
shalimar-umc.org/blessings-for-children. You can donate items by stopping by the our Cross Corner location behind the Family Life Center any Wednesdays from 11:30am - 3:30pm. •
Children’s bibles, bible stories, and activity books are always a joy to receive and distribute. Spanish language Bibles are always needed!

A financial gift designated to Blessings for Children through the church allows us to replenish the needed items we distribute weekly.

New volunteers are always welcome, with no regular commitment required.

A Request for Prayer In the upcoming months, it will be exciting to be a part of Shalimar UMC. Look in the Beacon and listen to the announcements on Sunday Mornings to see what events are upcoming. However, even doing that will not always give you a complete list because there is so much going on that the entire list cannot be covered in the space available in the Beacon and time available on Sunday mornings. This all leads me to the focus of this article. There is a great need for all of us to pray for Shalimar UMC, especially during these times. 50 churches in our conference have met and decided to bring in 50 new members each during the 50 days between Easter and Pentecost. That means it will take a lot of bold prayers for this to be accomplished. I am asking that everyone pray for SUMC to reach our goal. In addition to prayers for our 50 new members, I ask that 100 people come alongside the Prayer Team to pray for SUMC. (Pastors, events, and programs of the church) From time to time, I will send special prayer emphases by email for special prayers. If you would like to join us in this prayer effort, please email me at jamesbrantley3@cox.net. I will add you to the group. God has a plan for us. We need to pray to get in tune with what His plan is. There is no limit to what can be accomplished if we get aligned with His Vision. Read Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Our Prayer emphasis now is for 50 new members. More will be coming soon. Please join us. Be one of the faithful 100 to help SUMC be all it can be through the power of the Holy Spirit. Prayer Prayer Room The Prayer Room is always available for your use. The code to enter is 1423. After each Sunday morning service, someone will be present to pray with if you would like. They will also respect your wishes to pray alone. Prayer shawls are available for your use. The Prayer Box with cards is available for you to leave a request for either the pastors or Prayer Team. They will pray for you or a situation you would like lifted up. There have been great reports of use for this special place. Prayer Chain You can add someone to the Prayer Chain, share an answered prayer or receive prayer requests and praises through email. We are excited to announce the prayer list can now be accessed on the website or app. Please call the office for the password to this page.
