Worship Services

Traditions At 8:00am and 11:00 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Connect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we engage in a four -fold service of gathering, praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Freedom At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym, we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.


Senior Recognition Sunday - Each year we have the privilege of honoring and praying for our high school seniors as they move to their next chapter in life. This year, we'll be recognizing our seniors on Sunday, May 15th. Seniors will be presented to the congregation during the 11:07am worship service and are invited to our Senior Recognition Luncheon in the Cross Corner Fellowship Hall. If you have a senior or know of one we ought to recognize, please contact Pastor David at 850-319-0072 or David@Shalimar-UMC.org. Students must complete the Senior Recognition 2022 Registration Form by Thursday, May 12th 2022 in order to be recognized on Sunday, May 15th 2022.

Philip’s Focus “How to Join Shalimar United Methodist Church” Our goal of 50 new members in 50 days began Easter Sunday. This week we again open the doors of the church for all ready to join. In this Beacon article, I am including information of what it means to join the church. I hope you find this article helpful, if you are interested in becoming a member or even if you are already a member. All persons are invited to join the church. If Shalimar UMC is a church you feel at home for worship and participation in the church, we invite you to join. There are no associated “dues” in membership. Joining the church is a part of the spiritual journey. Persons give to the Lord, of their own choosing as stewards. We do ask all persons to pledge their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness in membership. There are two basic ways persons join the church. PROFESSION OF FAITH: The first way is by Profession of Faith. Profession of Faith is the category for all professing Jesus who have not ever joined the church. Baptism is a requirement for those who have never been baptized to join the church. When can a person be baptized? We are ready every Sunday to baptize and receive new members in the church. Helping people understand the meaning of baptism and baptizing those professing their faith, is one of our primary reasons which exist as a Church. We baptize through any of three methods sprinkling, pouring, and immersion. The method is not as important as understanding the meaning of baptism. Please let us know if you would like to learn more about the meaning of baptism. Speaking of baptism, if you would prefer an immersion baptism instead of sprinkling, we are glad to accommodate this as well. This gives us an opportunity to schedule a time and place in the beautiful Emerald Coast waters. We also baptize


children all ages in our tradition. If children are preconfirmation age, we will baptize them and then plan on their joining the church when they reach confirmation age. What if I was a member of a church a long time ago and my membership lapsed or is no longer? If this is the case, we receive you into Shalimar United Methodist Church all the same. This is also considered profession of faith. If you were a member of Shalimar UMC years ago and want to become a member again this is referred to as restoring our membership. And we are glad to restore your membership. TRANSFER OF MEMBERSHIP: The second way we join a church is by transfer of church letter. What is a church letter? Church “letter” means notifying the church in which currently lists you as a member. Traditionally this has been done by writing a “letter” to your previous church. Officially, we refer to this as Certificate of Transfer which is CT, when transferring from another UMC congregation. If you are joining from another denomination, we enter in the category Other Denomination OD. There is no baptism required when transferring from another congregation since you have already been baptized. One baptism is good for life in our tradition. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask any of our pastors. We would love to sit down and talk to you anytime we can be of help to you. The instruction and guidance into the church is some of the most important work we do. If you are considering becoming a member, please let us know.

Sundays Worship and Bible | 9:30am & 11:00am Dear Family, At Food Truck Party VBS, your students will enjoy an interactive, energizing, Bible-based good time as they get on a roll with God. They will become Chefs and discover how we can turn to God in prayer every day to meet our needs and how we can join God in providing for the needs of others. After a high-energy Opening Assembly time, the Chefs make their way to the Bible Story Station. Interactive Bible lessons reveal Daily Specials to equip your Chefs for an active life with God. Your Chefs will also discover our Main Course (Bible memory verse), which will remain with them in their faith long after VBS. The students will expand on what they’ve discovered by making their own art projects at the Craft Station, singing new songs at the Music Station, exploring the wonders of God’s creation at the Science Station, playing games at the Recreation Station, and enjoying tasty treats at the Snack Station. Along the way, the Chefs will hear about our mission project as their response to a call for action! Join us as we get on a roll with God at the Food Truck Party! Registration is now open for our 2022 Shalimar UMC Vacation Bible School and the theme this year is "Food Truck Party!" "A PRAYER LETTER FROM MY HUSBAND; OUR LOST CHILD"

The passage we heard about the woman who bled for twelve years and was healed might be something that most of us cannot relate. Something to which we can relate is Jesus’ healing of the woman. Please allow me to share part of my journey to healing. My husband and I lost our child 60 days ago. My husband has been counting the days. We didn't know when we drove to Pensacola that day that we would get this report. Even as an RN nurse I didn't see the signs of no heartbeat. We were focused on the future and hoped all there was for our little "Meerkat" baby, as Pastor Matt called it. I hated that nickname. We had so many hopes. We got the news and both wept in that exam room together. Minutes later we were in the parking lot heading home. Surreal feeling. Understanding the 30% go to full term statistic of the miracle of birth and an hour drive ahead of us. We were broken. We have not communicated much this season. He said when we married, Eastertide and Advent are two seasons he was busy with church responsibilities. When he found out I was scheduled and accepted to sing in our 11:07 Freedom service for Mother's Day, he wrote me this prayer letter and spoke it over me from this scripture, Mark 5:25-34.


Mother, you have been in pain for so long, I pray for your comfort. Mother, you have been through much physical distress, I pray for your mental healing. Mother, you know our Healer, I pray you remember His touch.

Mother, you have such faith, I pray you stand on it now. Mother, you received that divine interaction of comfort, I pray you recognize the mystery in God's kindness and love. Mother, you still hurt today, I pray you know God notices you even now.

Mother, it is confusing and wild everywhere, I pray you have peace in understanding and accepting. Mother, you feel lost, I pray Jesus is still looking after you as He promised. Mother, you still bear a burden, I pray that you are able to lay it at His feet daily.

Mother, you feel like the future is barren, I pray that you know He has already set you free. Whether you are a mother, grandmother, suffering from loss as I am, adopting, or caring for a child; Mother, you are a child of God, I pray that the peace and joy that passes all understanding covers you this day. You are seen by the Living God. He loves you. Be Blessed. Amen. Angelina Savage



If you have heard that we are having a great time at Joyful Place, it’s true! We’ve been open for 6 weeks, and are having boatloads of fun with enjoyable activities, wonderful meals catered by Twisted Grape , music and endless love and laughter. The mixture of friends (those who attend) and volunteers is a truly magical combination. Everyone feels at home and are welcomed with open arms. Blessings for Children Praise God for You Who Pack our Lunch I love the Upper Room devotional, and my Bible is stuffed with devotions pulled from it over the years that have spoken to me - spirit, body, and soul. One in particular, from January 8, 2022, by Inger Logelin, where she lifted up the story of the feeding of the multitudes in a way that shouted to me about the ministries and missions our church undertakes, and in particular our Blessings for Children ministry. Ms. Logelin said she “wondered about the one who prepared the boy’s lunch.” Yes, Ms. Logelin! Those behind the scenes who do what they do (pray, give, make, take, write, donate, call) so that those who share “in the field” will have what is needed. The boy had a lunch prepared by someone at home that, in the hands of Jesus, would be used in a miracle! Every Wednesday, when we open our Blessings for Children doors, we serve the “lunch” that so many gracious giving others have prepared. The diapers, toothbrushes, school supplies, t-shirts, and all we can provide to those in need who God sends has been prepared behind the scenes by someone who has a heart for others and is probably not sure how their gift will be used, but believes it is needed and is given in love. God does the rest! Praise God for all those “behind the scenes!” And if you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider: Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Be on the lookout for families you can refer to us for assistance. • Consider donating items we distribute to the children: diapers (size

4, 5, and 6 in particular), pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized t-shirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, lice treatment kits, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute can be found at


shalimar-umc.org/blessings-for-children. You can donate items by stopping by the our Cross Corner location behind the Family Life Center any Wednesdays from 11:30am - 3:30pm. •

Children’s bibles, bible stories, and activity books are always a joy to receive and distribute. Spanish language Bibles are always needed!

A financial gift designated to Blessings for Children through the church allows us to replenish the needed items we distribute weekly.

New volunteers are always welcome, with no regular commitment required.

A Request for Prayer In the upcoming months, it will be exciting to be a part of Shalimar UMC. Look in the Beacon and listen to the announcements on Sunday Mornings to see what events are upcoming. However, even doing that will not always give you a complete list because there is so much going on that the entire list cannot be covered in the space available in the Beacon and time available on Sunday mornings. This all leads me to the focus of this article. There is a great need for all of us to pray for Shalimar UMC, especially during these times. 50 churches in our conference have met and decided to bring in 50 new members each during the 50 days between Easter and Pentecost. That means it will take a lot of bold prayers for this to be accomplished. I am asking that everyone pray for SUMC to reach our goal. In addition to prayers for our 50 new members, I ask that 100 people come alongside the Prayer Team to pray for SUMC. (Pastors, events, and programs of the church) From time to time, I will send special prayer emphases by email for special prayers. If you would like to join us in this prayer effort, please email me at jamesbrantley3@cox.net. I will add you to the group. God has a plan for us. We need to pray to get in tune with what His plan is. There is no limit to what can be accomplished if we get aligned with His Vision. Read Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Prayer Prayer Room The Prayer Room is always available for your use. The code to enter is 1423. After each Sunday morning service, someone will be present to pray with if you would like. They will also respect your wishes to pray alone. Prayer shawls are available for your use. The Prayer Box with cards is available for you to leave a request for either the pastors or Prayer Team. They will pray for you or a situation you would like lifted up. There have been great reports of use for this special place. Prayer Chain You can add someone to the Prayer Chain, share an answered prayer or receive prayer requests and praises through email. We are excited to announce the prayer list can now be accessed on the website or app. Please call the office for the password to this page.
