We have a continually active church. There is something important going on all the time. The most import ant thing, of course, are the number of lives being impacted for Jesus each week. We indeed have a very impactful church for Jesus. In such a vibrant and busy church, our Beacon (our newsletter each week) is one of the primary ways we communicate with our congregation. Let me identify a few important items this month. We have a called Charge Conference scheduled for August 28, 12:30 PM. in the Sanctuary. The sole purpose of this meeting is related to the proposed selling of the parsonage at 12 Meigs Drive. All members of the Church Council are the voting members of the Charge Conference. All are welcome to attend the Charge Conference. Our “Open House” is this Sunday at 5PM. We will be communicating some of the growth and ministry op portunities for this Fall. This will include all-age level ministries including our children and youth/youth choir plans. We will also hear about the opportunities for young adults and adults this Fall. We will hear about some of our new ministries as well. This gathering will offer fellowship, information, and some inspiration as we kick off the Fall opportunities. Our special offering for our Ukraine family is throughout the month of August. The Tysiachnyi family will be arriving in August. We have agreed to partner with Samaritan’s Purse and sponsor their transition into our country over the next year. Our goal is to raise $45,000 to make this happen. What a wonderful opportunity for us to get behind this as a church. Our Church Council has requested a new task force be formed to gather information and better under stand current denominational matters. The goal for this team is to provide accurate information for our congregation. The team will include our four lay delegates to the Annual Conference Mark Bethea, Dave Bigger, Jim Brantley, Pat Gross, Kyle Wilson (Lay Leader), Renata Steiner, and our pastors. Also, for those that want to know more about what is going on in our denomination… Bishop Graves is having a meeting for laity August 21, 4PM at Pensacola First United Methodist Church. All laity are invited to hear directly from the Bishop. No reservation is required. Well, these are a few things I wanted to communicate to you this week. These are only a snippet of what is going on around Shalimar UMC. We have so much to celebrate! God is so good! Hope to see you Sunday as we preach on being welcoming through the teaching of the Prodigal Son.

The Cross Corner Fellowship Hall is full of people and plenty of laughter on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is our hope that everyone is hearing great stories about what we are doing. If you are curious, please reach out and ask questions. With our growth, we are looking for some volunteers to make a difference in the lives of our friends. If you are interested, but not able to assist in person on our respite days, would you please consider these other ways to contribute? Help to spread the word about the ministry. Pray that we can reach those in the community that could benefit from respite. Consider a donation. Gift Cards to Wal Mart, $ Tree and Publix are always helpful. It doesn’t matter how old we are or what kind of work we do, we’ve all wondered at times, “Does my life really matter?” Do the everyday events and messy moments make any kind of difference? Is it okay to be fulfilled by the simple acts of raising kids, working in an office, and cooking chicken for dinner? This six-session video Bible study with bestselling author and popular blogger Melanie Shankle speaks directly to the heart of women of all ages who are long ing to find significance and meaning in the normal, everyday world. Study guides will be available the first night of class.

Jennie Allen knows what it’s like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, but she also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns.
In this 10-session study, Jen Wilkin shows us that Israel’s story is our story, the same God who delivered Israel also delivers all those He loves from slavery to sin and pharaohs of the world. He lifts our eyes to the promised land He has prepared where we dwell with I AM and worship Him as the one true God.
Have you ever wondered how you could have a closer walk with God? A more vibrant and intimate relationship with Him? Kelly Minter has a new 7-session Bible study, “Encoun tering God”, which will help us unpack and develop the sacred habits essential to a more vibrant spiritual life and enable us to know God more intimately. This is not about adding more to your to-do list; it is about providing peace and rest as you walk closer to Jesus. This is a wonderful opportunity to grow in your knowledge and love of God and to fellowship with other Christian women.
Are your thoughts holding you captive? I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me.
